The place inside is small- but do not let the exterior fool you, it serves delicious food! I've been here a couple times and it does not disappoint. If you were to come on a weekend, there will be a wait for sure. There is outside seating when the weather is nicer. This time around, I had ordered the pork chops rice plate. The protein is flavorful and the nice char on the chops give is a good crunch flavor. Also at our table was the banh xeo- it is huge! But filling, and you won't stop eating it because it is yummy! This is a fairly small restaurant right behind safeway with a limited number of seating. I came with a party of 5 during around 6pm and needed to wait 1 hour for seats since they needed to push some tables together. The waiter was kind enough to let us sit at a table meant for 4 people since we were hungry though! We heard the banh xeo was really good here, so everyone ordered it at the table! It was huge!!! We really liked it! One small thing I noticed was the shrimp was not deveined which was w little gross -- I wish I didn't notice it. Small busy Vietnamese restaurant! The food was good and came out relatively quickly. The restaurant was pretty busy on a Sunday night. They have a few tables they can push together. This night, it was pretty busy and we waited around 20 minutes for a table for 6. They had asked if we wanted to sit separately or wait an additional 20-30 min for sitting together. We sat at 2 4 tops next to each other. After sitting down for 10 minutes where no table settings were touched, a large table opened up and we asked if we could sit at the large table. Waitress said no, which we understood if there was a larger party coming. However, they ended up splitting the table into two for 2 small parties of less than 4. This left a sour taste in our mouth... If you have larger parties, expect to wait. They are very understaffed so service is poor. The food here is pretty good, but we will not be coming back. They have a good variety of more niche Vietnamese food. However, some of the soups seem to be mixed, we tasted some Bo Kho in our other soups. Renton Bistro is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants there is. Consistent with their food quality. Parking lot and restaurant is on the smaller side. There is plenty of street parking. It does get busy, but the wait usually isn't too long. Servers aren't super personable but they're efficient. Very laid back atmosphere. You can go in any attire. Moving on to the food. One order of Banh Xeo is huge. Extra crispy and that's how I prefer mine! Tons of veggies to eat with it. Eggrolls are life changing. They're wrapped in spring roll wrapper then fried. I absolutely love these. Another go to is the BBH. Not as spicy. Still lots of flavor and you can always add chili oil. The fried tofu is perfect also a must try. Crispy and well seasoned. Thai tea is balanced the flavor and a touch of sweetness. I don't have anything bad to say about this place! Must go if your near or in Renton. read more

Renton Bistro is located in downtown Renton and is one of the most authentic Vietnamese restaurants around, offering a large variety of Vietnamese dishes that you might not be able to find at other restaurants. It is also one of the restaurants that several of my Vietnamese colleagues in Renton highly recommend. The building is a house-converted restaurant. They have a gravel parking lot, but it is often quite cramp and crowded and so I recommend parking on the street instead as there are plenty of parking stalls nearby. As aforementioned, Renton Bistro has a large and extensive menu with everything from your typical pho and spring rolls to more rare gems like steamed rice cakes (banh beo), deep fried chicken wings with fish sauce and chili (canh ga nuoc man), five spice chicken noodle soup (ga ngu vi huong), and Vietnamese crepe (banh xeo). I've been to Renton Bistro twice and these are dishes I've tried: - STEAMED RICE CAKES (BANH BEO CHEN) ($15.95) - glutinous rice cakes with shrimp, green onion, and crispy onions served with fish sauce. This dish is one of their house specials and something I've only seen and tried at Renton Bistro. The set comes with 10 beautifully presented cakes in individual saucers, which makes it easy to share, and definitely recommend sharing as the rice cakes are very filling. This is truly an umami-centric dish that you will need a breath mint or two after as the fish sauce and onions will leave your mouth quite smelly. With that said, it is a unique dish with plenty of flavors and textures going on at once. - HUE SPICY BEEF NOODLE SOUP (BUN BO HUE) ($16.95) - round rice noodles in spicy beef broth with pork slices, beef slices, meatballs, and fresh bean sprouts and banana blossom on the side. If you want a change from your usual pho and like a little heat, I highly recommend giving bun bo hue a try! The heat was maybe 3 stars, if not on the lighter side of spicy, but my friend and I got Thai chili peppers on the side to add to the broth (or you can use the jalapeños they provide with the sprouts and basil) to add an extra kick! The broth was very flavorful. I wish the meat was a little more tender and meaty (as I had a lot of cartilage and fat on the pieces I had), but overall one of the better bun bo hues I've had in a while (if you're looking for the best bun bo hue, I recommend Rose Pho in Des Moines). - VIETNAMESE CREPE (BANH XEO) ($16.95) - prawns, pork slices, and bean sprouts in pan fried batter mixed with coconut milk served with fresh green vegetables, mixed herbs, and fish sauce. Another one of their house specials, this crepe is huge and super crispy. I will say that they could use a more filling in the crepe and so not sure if it was really worth the price. Also, most of the filling was concentrated in the middle of the crepe and so when splitting the crepe into four pieces, the end pieces had very little filling. They did a good job browning both sides of the crepe to golden and it comes with lots of greens so you definitely get your fill of veggies with this dish. - PORK SATAY (HEO LUI) ($10.50) - pork slices, onion, garlic topped with crushed peanuts and scallion, served with peanut or fish sauce. Out of the dishes I've tried here, this was my favorite. The pork is tender, moist, and very well-marinated with a good balance of sweet and savory flavors. The peanut sauce is nice to have on the side, but honestly not necessary as the pork is plenty flavorful as is. It's obviously protein-packed and so it could definitely be a meal on its own with a side of rice. I would say the biggest downside of this restaurant, is that their service is quite slow and you often have to be proactive to track a server down. As many other Yelpers have stated, they just don't have enough workers to accommodate and so you really can't be in a rush here, especially during high-peak dinner time hours. I would give this place a 3.5 stars with service being the thing that brings it down a full point. Food wise, it's honestly pretty dang good. We got the Bun Mam which is the anchovy seafood soup and I got the chicken spring roll platter. The flavor of the broth and the chicken was great. Good portion size too! Service wise was rough, it wasn't that busy at all. There were probably only a few tables, and there were at least two servers. We put our names down, and we just stood there. No one acknowledged us for at least 15-20 minutes. The restaurant was not that big at all, both of the servers walked past us multiple times without saying anything at all. There were a good amount of tables open too. The service just seemed very slow. Ambiance wise, it looks like a decent size house from the outside. Inside it's small but seems cozy. Renton Bistro is a Vietnamese restaurant that's creating a buzz in my Seattle-based relatives. It looks like a big house with a huge deck as opposed to a traditional hole-in-wall. Its a pretty busy restaurant too, with 20-30 mins wait for lunch for groups of 7. Overall I like the variety of food here and quality-wise pretty darn good. I liked the pork chop over rice which also came with sausage and shredded pork along with a fried egg. Lemongrass chicken over rice noodles were also solid. Wife got the BBH and she seemed happy with it. Food definitely on par with Hoang Lan in Seattle, our previous favorite Vietnamese place. Renton Bistro is that comfort restaurant you frequent when you want something that not only warms your bones on a chilly winter's day, but soothes your soul when you just need a warm touch to comfort you. This place is a Vietnamese food gem - and a must eat! The physical location being in a house, is the epitome of this place - I think it defines the food - a place you can call home, or something that tastes just as good as your mother's, and a place you want to come back to, time and time again. I've been here a handful of times, and there is not a dish that I wouldn't order. I'm also a creature of habit, so I like what I like, and it's hard for me to deter from that. If you're feeling ravenous and love a good hands-on, interactive meal, absolutely get a noodle platter. You will not be disappointed. My go-to is the tofu (vegetarian/vegan) platter as it is soo good and so filling. The tofu is stir-fried with lemon grass and they include pineapples, bell peppers, and mushrooms! Then the platter has fresh noodles (topped with green onions), pickled daikon and carrots, cucumbers, bean sprouts, lettuce, and your variation of fresh garnishes, i.e. mint, Thai basil, or patty leaves + your hot water and spring roll wrappers. I rarely ever eat it all... but when I do, it's just that good that you want to eat it all. Comes with fish sauce dipping - if you want fully vegan, ask for their soy sauce and chili oil. that's a great alternative! Their other combo platters with meat are amazing. Fresh, cooked to order, and has that classic Vietnamese sweet and savory marinade - must try! I've also had their Vietnamese catfish sour soup (canh chua) which was also super warming and delicious. Perfect amount of tamarind soup, and perfect balance of salt and umami. I could eat that one all day. I have not had anything else - but my friends came and ordered the whole menu - from pho, to BBH, or Hanoi style platter, to spring rolls. This place has huge portions, delicious cooked-to-order food, and just really hits the spot. They can accommodate if you are vegan or have allergies (to the best of their ability). Their fried rice portions are also huge. Small restaurant, but worth the wait. Parking is also limited, but street parking is pretty ample. It may be challenging to accommodate larger groups but they will do their best. When our party of 8 came, we waited maybe 30 minutes? more or less... it wasn't bad. Mediocre Vietnamese food (Vietnam house in Seattle is same vibe, probably similar price but has much better quality of food and service), the restaurant itself was dingy and the service was horrible. We came to try it out but with only 2 people hosting, serving and bussing the busy restaurant on a Saturday night, they should know their limits. We had to ask to order twice, ask to pay the bill three times and then ask for to go boxes four times. We watched a table outside just get up and leave out of frustration unfortunately. I really really wanted to try Bún riêu and I found this place! We were waiting for our dog to get groomed nearby so this was a perfect place. Parking: very limited right next to the restaurant but I'm not sure if they have side street parking. We got the special pho and the Bún riêu Special pho: the broth seemed sweeter to me than most places. They were VERY heavy with the noodles and not much with the meat. The meat was okay, really liked the meat balls. Bún riêu: I thought it was good but had nothing to compare it to. I was expecting it to be sour but surprised with the light and sweet flavors. The crab was really good And the shrimp.'loved the tofu. I think the next thing I would try and so tempted to get was the Bún bò Huế. I get this a lot in other restaurants though and many restaurants don't have Bun Rieu. Everything on the menu looked amazing. Prices: reasonable. Portions: big! But very heavy on noodles. Went here a while back with family members and the ambiance of the place seemed like you are at grandmas kitchen/home eating good homemade food! I will say that parking can get tricky since it's a small area but luckily we all found one right away! The service was very quick started us with our drink and our appetizers and when we were done all of our main dishes came out which I love when places do that because timing is just everything. If you are ever in South King County - specifically, Renton, WA - try out this gem for the 'more non-standard' Vietnamese food. While I like my pho once in a while, it's like the burgers of Vietnamese cuisine, and there's so much you're missing out on if you just opt for pho every time. They don't take reservations at Renton Bistro (believe me - I tried) so get here as early as you can because there'll be a wait. Once you are finally seated, you're in for a treat. Here is what we ordered: - Mango Salad - refreshing and good amount of mango - Shrimp Spring Rolls - a classic starter - Grilled Pork Spring Rolls - a nice change from the shrimp spring rolls and the sauce that comes with it is different from the shrimp counterpart - Fried Tofu - nothing special but solid - Fish Sauce Wings - caramelization is key and Renton Bistro got this part on the money - Grilled Pork Ribs - generous amount of meat and well-seasoned; comes with rice and fish sauce dipping - Banh Xeo - star of the show AND portions are HUGE; also comes with all the veggies, including basil and perilla leave, as well as the large lettuce leaves to use as wrapping We didn't get any of the noodle soup dishes, but they have them here, including Bun Bo Hue (one of my faves) and the Duck Bamboo Noodle Soup! We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Sunday and noticed a sign at the entrance stating they were understaffed and requesting patience. We ordered the Combination Hot Pot (Lẩu Thập Cẩm). It was our first time trying Vietnamese hot pot, and we were impressed! The ingredients were high quality, and the broth was refreshing. We came here twice - the first time on a Sunday evening where we waited quite a while and the other time on a Thursday night where there was no wait. The restaurant very much looks like a house from the outside and inside there isn't ample seating but it feels very homey. We really like the combo platter where we got to wrap our own roles. The broth on the bun bo hue and the bun mam are both very tasty. We liked being able to try things we don't normally get at Vietnamese restaurants. We were craving some classic Vietnamese dishes and someone had recommended this spot to me, so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out. There is a designated parking lot, but it is small, so during peak hours, parking might be an issue. The restaurant looks like a home from the outside but the sign is visible. Fortunately, when we arrived around 7 pm on a Sunday there was no wait and we were seated immediately. The inside is quite small and quaint. Anywho, we were very impressed by the menu selection. There are lots of traditional Vietnamese dishes offered here. We ordered 4 dishes in total: Banh beo: 10 pieces total, we thought it was pretty authentic and fresh, although the juicy mam was a bit too limey for our liking. Menu said it takes about 20 minutes to come out, but it was actually the first dish that came out. Fish sauce wings: delicious and flavorful, we'd order again! I do like my wings on the crispier side though, and wished it was just a tad bit crispier. Ca kho to (clay pot catfish): my boyfriend liked this a lot and he's tried this at many restaurants and said he'd get it again. The only catch is that it doesn't come with rice and you have to order rice separately, which didn't really make sense to us because this dish is meant to be eaten with rice...so usually it should be included at no extra charge. Bun rieu: huge portion but I had to ask for fish sauce to add to it, felt like it needed a bit more umami flavor to it Overall, the food is quite tasty and the selection makes it easy for everyone to find something they'd like. As others have mentioned, the Renton Bistro restaurant is in an older house just east of the Renton Safeway store. Parking is available but there's no guarantee that you will find an open spot. Oddly at noon the place was packed but by 12:30 there were lots of open tables, which gradually filled. The dining area is not large. Cozy. Perhaps a little too cozy. Noise carries. Some people have mentioned that they didn't like the service. We loved our waitress. A cute Vietnamese girl, named Ju(?). Unfortunately her English was limited so when I ordered the combo platter, she apparently tried to tell me that it was large enough for two! My friend and I didn't get her meaning and we both ordered it. Although I thought it tasted very good, the amount of food was a little intimidating. Ju was wonderful. She explained how to wrap all the various meats and veggies, either with rice paper or large leaves of lettuce. I am very familiar with Chinese food so it reminded me of bao bing 包饼。 I brought home the leftovers and my wife and I stuffed ourselves on them. More than enough for two. So much food. Three ate for $27! The menu also could be a little intimidating if you aren't familiar with Vietnamese food. Pages and pages of choices. TL;DR: Understated Viet eatery in Renton with delicious food, solid portions for a dinner, sharp prices, and a cozy interior vibe. Highly recommend for hearty Viet cuisine on the Eastside. Renton Bistro has been the OG Viet restaurant in Renton for a long time, and it has survived that long because of its tasty and large menu of Viet dishes. You can get pho, broken rice, or even some specialities like Shaking Beef. We got the pork chop broken rice, beef stew, and the egg roll. The egg roll was different but really good; it's not the flaky texture but a heartier deep fried texture that was really good. The broken rice with pork is one of their standard dishes to get: rice, fried egg, pork chop, and some miscellaneous sides. The beef stew had big chunks of beef, carrot, and egg noodle in what tasted like pho broth but with the taste notes of the beef. All in all, it was very good. That said it didn't compare to Viet restaurants you could find in San Jose; for example the beef stew there wouldn't just be the pho broth with beef. The seating area is quaint and cozy. Lots of wood textures and solid wood tables and chairs. Lots of light too through the large windows! The downsides are the parking (limited and tight parking lot, but there's ample street parking), limited seating, and slow service when busy (30 minute+ wait for food). The last callout is well understood by them too; they post a warning about this on their door. If you go outside of core lunch and dinner hours though, there isn't any wait. read more

I have dined here a few times; the food is decent, but the staff's attitude is terrible. On previous visits, the restaurant wasn't busy, yet the staff were still quite surly while serving. Today--a Saturday--we arrived at 11:00 AM when the place was somewhat crowded. We finished our meal and waited for our takeout order, which took quite a long time. At 12:30 PM, a staff member brought out our food and asked us to settle the bill; once we had paid, they told us to leave because there was a group of people waiting outside.. I was taken aback and pointed out that we had only been sitting there for just over an hour while waiting for our takeout, but the staff member replied that the restaurant has a strict time limit of one and a half hours per table. Renton Bistro location in Renton is super convenient and it's cute. It's a house that was turned into a restaurant. The inside isn't too big, but still very inviting and the waiters there are very friendly. They came around quite a bit to check up on us and making sure that we didn't need anything else. So, I really wanted to try this place out because of the steam rice cakes. I just really liked seeing the other reviews of this and liked the presentation of it, too. I really enjoyed eating this with my husband. The bun Bo hue, was good to me too. I had to add extra chili! Love my food spicy! Instead of having the actual pork trotter they used the meat with skin. I didn't mind that, because I can actually eat the whole thing! (With the pork trotter at other restaurants, it makes it more difficult. ) As for the lemon garlic beef Bo luc lak. This was good, such a huge portion and lots of beef! It does have a tangy after taste, which I'm not to use to with this dish. Also, if you're expecting rice to come with this, it does not. You'll have to order that separately. All and all, Renton Bistro was good. I would come here again to try other things on their menu and will order the steam rice cakes again. But for these 3 dishes. Love this restaurant! My rating is 4.5 because of the noise. Food is so tasty! Took a friend we hadn't seen in years for Vietnamese cuisine. She was born and grew up in Vietnam. We ordered Bahn xeo (Vietnamese sizzling crepe with shrimp, pork and bean sprouts. It comes with fresh greens lettuce and fresh herbs). We also ordered shrimp fresh rolls wrapped with rice paper, bean sprouts & veggies. My husband order Goi Ga ( chicken salad with tons of shredded chicken, cabbage, bean sprouts, carrots with a sweet and spicy vinaigrette). He absolutely loved it and would definitely order it again. My friend thought the dishes were legit Vietnamese cuisine. Service was good, and you can either park on the street ( plenty of street parking) or in their small parking lot. A friend and I went to Renton Bistro for lunch not too long after they opened. The restaurant is located in downtown Renton and is easy to find. It has a parking lot as well as street parking. It's in a cute house. We ordered the spring rolls and they were brought out to us very quickly. On a recommendation we both ordered the Hanoi Grilled Pork Vermicelli Noodle. It too was brought out very quickly. We were pleasantly surprised when our entree was brought out to us. We were expecting our dish to be in one bowl like how restaurants usually serve it. Renton Bistro had every item separated and nicely presented on a rectangular dish. Our food was delicious. Service was good. I would definitely return to Renton Bistro. read more

A great choice for Vietnamese food in the Renton area! Parking can get very dicey especially during peak hours. This place does have parking on site but there's little so I would go for street parking if possible. The inside is very small with not many tables, and the place is relatively clean. Service was also very fast and prompt despite hearing that they may be understaffed from friends who've been here previously. For a table of four, my friends and I didn't have to wait long. The place serves many types of dishes and has a decent selection of vegetarian options too. My friends and I got several dishes including the Vietnamese tamarind soup with catfish, lemongrass chicken, lemongrass pork ribs, lemongrass beef ribs and their highly recommended steamed rice cakes. As a heads up, the rice cakes dish itself takes ~20 minutes to make. Every lemongrass meat was well-seasoned and flavorful, though the best ones for me were the pork and beef for their exceptional flavoring. I haven't had tamarind soup in a long time, so I was really happy to have it here! I heard there was a banh beo restaurant in Washington and had to check it out when I flew into SeaTac! It's located near a Safeway in the corner of S 3rd St and Shattuck Ave S in Renton. There is a small parking lot with stalls for customers to park at. At first, when we were looking for the restaurant, we thought we were pulling up into someone's property because the restaurant looks as if it was someone's house! Caught us off guard but thankfully, it was the actual restaurant. My boyfriend looooves banh beo chen (steamed rice cakes) and the fact that there was a place in Washington that made this was amazing! We obviously had to order that. It came with 10 little dishes filled with a ton of toppings. The one thing that wasn't there was the dried shrimp, booo. But that's okay as the dish was soooo good with their special fish sauce mixture that did have the dried shrimp (or was it anchovies?) to give it a very nice umami flavor! Definitely a hit. I also order their Pho Special - Pho Dac Biet) as I was craving a soup noodle dish. There was sooo much meat in the pho, wow! The broth had a really good initial taste, making me want more. The broth had a "cleanish" flavor with a lot of oil (peep at pic), but there was a light meat flavor coming from it. But over time as I continued eating, the flavor dulled a bit. It may have because all the flavor of the other foods we ordered overpowered the flavor of the pho. My boyfriend ordered their Combo Bun - Bun Dac Biet that came with vermicelli rice noodles and a combination of grilled pork, deep fried egg roll, pork sausage patty, and grilled shrimp patty. Wow, this was amazing as well. I actually couldn't stop eating his food because of all the different proteins he had LOL. The fish sauce was also a winner for complementing the food soooo well. In addition to the food, we also ordered a Singha Thai beer which my boyfriend's never tried, and a Thai Iced Tea. A bit too sweet for me but great in washing down all the salty foods with sweet. Overall, definitely a place to check out if you're ever in the Renton area. The food here did not disappoint us, and we will definitely be back for more of their banh beo and other dishes as their menu was quite vast! read more

A sign on the front door says they are short-staffed. We visited on a Friday evening, and waited for 15-20 minutes before we were seated. Majority of customers were lots families with small kids. Inside was a bit old, and isn't very big. Food was surprisingly good. We ordered Bun Mam (fermented fish soup with pork belly, catfish, and squid), broken rice with grilled pork chop, and fish sauce wings. We were told the wings will take 35 minutes to come out, and it did arrive almost at the end of our meal. I would skip the wings, but the noodle and broken rice are both delicious. read more
