I have been a patron of this establishment for years, however my last haircut was marred by the attending Barber asking if I wanted a particular cut on the back side to which I said sure whatever you think's good, and then he proceeded to tell me afterward that it cost an extra $3. It's a minor infraction but I don't like being taken even for a small amount and it has soured me to this place. I won't be going there again and don't recommend that you go either. read more

Just had my last haircut here after 25 years of service. 2 reasons why they'll never see another penny from me: 1. I ask for the same haircut every single time. But every single time, it will be a mystery as to how that particular barber cuts it. Once in awhile it will be OK. Most times, like today, I walk out looking like I just started bootcamp. It's hilarious how each barber will have a completely different idea how I want my haircut despite the identical instructions. 2. Their rapid increase in price. Today it was $22. They have been raising their prices nearly every 6 months. Well outpacing inflation. I can now pay that much and get a consistent, professional haircut at a better place with higher standards. They're nice people. I'll give em that. But damn, I've had some really bad cuts here. Gave the benefit of doubt to try the different barbers in the same location but I've been consistently messed up by this place. scissor cut or top cuts have just been dicey, uneven, and choppy. Cuts are a little pricier, but so is every barber now, what can you do? I think I hit my last straw last weekend. I asked for a mid fade and an inch off the top and showed a reference picture. Gave me a high fade and Instead of a inch off, he grabbed what looked to be a 3 guard and shaved my head down and finished it up with scissors. Now my hair is all messed up and it's growing weird. I'm considering a full buzz now to reset. A problem I've had consistently with this place is that any time I asked for low or mid fade, I got a high fade every time. And scissor cuts have always been crazy uneven. I think this place convinced me I need to go to a salon instead of a barber shop now. read more

This morning I went to the "Happy Barber 2" on Greyling. Every other barbers chairs being used for 3-customers at a time max. Take a number and indoor seating is spaced at least 3-chairs apart and overflow waits outside. All barbers and customers diligently wearing masks. Barber chairs and tools are thoroughly wiped with disinfectant and floors swept between customers. Everyone is in good spirits. There was a long line yesterday afternoon, the first day barbers and salons were allowed to open since the COVID-19 closures. I heard they stayed open after hours at least until 8PM to accommodate as many customers as they could. I went this morning about a 1/2-hour before they opened and there were 3-gents before me. I attempted to trim my hair a few weeks ago with okay results, but it was nice to have the pros make it right! It was great to see Amy, Don and the young man that are the usual barbers. I love this place. They give me the best haircut an an incredible bargain. I like they way they check and trim my brows and nose hairs if needed. I have been going to this barbershop for around 10 years. They have had just about the same barbers with some new barbers, but all of them are kind and professional. I can't recall ever walking out with a haircut that I was unhappy with. Their prices have risen significantly over the years($7-$12) and the quality of their service has stayed the same. There's no need to make an appointment as walk-ins are welcome and the longest wait is 20 minutes, its only busy on weekends or the day before certain holidays. The younger brother to the first Happy Barber. They are the exact same barbers except in a bigger barbershop. Cheap, no frills, and no awkward conversation unless you want it. The barbers are all Vietnamese so don't be surprised when they speak to each other in it. It's just the nature of the shop. Be specific about what you want and you shall receive. The barbers in this one and the first are interchangeable and some spend some days at this one and some at the other. You will have to ask them which ones they work on on which days if you want a certain barber. Same great haircuts for cheap prices. You can't really go wrong. I have had around 8 haircuts here at Happy Barber#2 and they all have been very good. The hair stylists here are mostly asian that decently speak English, so you're going to have to make sure you tell them what you want so that they don't misunderstand you. This barber shop is recommended for guys, I've never seen a girl get her hair cut here. The stylist here do a great job for the most part. They specialize in short haircuts rather than styled longer haircuts. They know the modern "now" styling, so that's not a problem. I usually get a sort of faux hawk haircut with a #2 on the sides with the v line in the back that's also boxed off. I also get the point for the side burns. They really a great job with the low price that they're asking for. Almost all cuts are $11. They also have a senior and military 10% discount. Had to come here for the first time because Happy Barber 1 was closed on Memorial Day. This place is a lot bigger, a lot nicer and cleaner than the original. It is a bit more expensive (a dollar more) at $10. At the original, they user put gel on your hair after your cut and charge you a dollar. At HB2, my barber hairsprayed my hair, which was actually nice and he didn't end up charging me for it. So basically, Happy Barber 2 is everything you love about the original Happy Barber, but a little better in most aspects. read more

My husband usually gets his military haircuts here and recently he went to Serra Mesa Barbershop since Happy Barber was closed at 5 pm. Serra Mesa Barbershop did a good job and because of this my husband asked one their guys if they could cut our sons hair. He said it was fine and to bring him in sometime. My son has had his hair cut at Happy Barber when he was 10 months and they did really well with him. They gave him a lollipop and he sat there and didn't cry. Well, since my husband said Serra Mesa Barbershop did a good job I thought it would be a good idea to take him over there to see how they would fare. Well, we ended up having the worst experience & the worst customer service. We didn't even get to his cut when I just left because I felt like I wasted my time. We went back to Happy Barber and we were seated with someone within 5 minutes. He got a lollipop and overall didn't cry and wasn't too fussy. This place is amazing! I've been coming here since I moved to San Diego in 2009. I have pretty short hair and that's what they specialize in. They work on people with military or very short clean cut looks. If you're looking to get a stylized haircut such as with a hard part or a specific longer look, then this place is probably not for you. They specialize in fades, buzz cuts, high n tights, short styled cuts, and tapered cuts. I tend to get fades and they do a really great job! They're also very ok with the types of clients that need a weekly haircut, which I do at times. I especially love how inexpensive this place is. The barber's are all primarily Vietnamese and some speak broken English, but they know what they're doing. If you do like a certain barber you do have to ask for their schedule so you don't miss them. I like that they take in any walk-in. The waits can be from 5 min to 20 min depending on how busy it is.
