Really good chicken tenders. They're piping hot, fresh, crisp and awesome as could be. It's really filling too, so you'll leave full if not needing a nap. I tried 1/2 regular, 1/2 spicy and I would definitely say the spicy is better. It's not hot by any means but gives a nice peppery kick. The fries are well seasoned and super crisp (clearly double fried awesomeness). The bacon mac and cheese is fantastic too, bacon flavor permeating through just enough cheese on pasta action. Cornbread is alright, although admittedly I'm not a huge cornbread fan. And oh ya, those sauces. The avocado poblano ranch is the bomb. It's really awesome - would be very happy with 2 of those. What a find. Happy Chick is new to E6th Street and we didn't have many reviews to look up before visiting so some might say we went on a bit of a whim. It was practically empty when we walked in, but what do you expect for a late Friday afternoon. Whitney, our server was super friendly. She talked us through the menu and even advised on some of the many (15 to be exact) home made sauces that they offer. We opted for the 'classic chick' - four chicken tenders, fries, Mac and cheese and corn bread. You can also select two of the 15 homemade sauces In my opinion this is more than enough for two. If you ate this alone you'd fall into a deep food coma with giant food baby to go with it. The food itself was pretty damn good! Believe me when I say, this is some juicy chicken. Came in here on a whim having just landed in Austin and ready to explore. Was a little dubious at first, as the place had a huge sign saying "just opened" outside, but it was completely empty save the staff when I walked in. Inside is a horseshoe bar, with separate seating around the edges, and also a second floor of tables and chairs, with high ceilings. A really light and airy place. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a friendly bunch of staff who explained the menu and got us an ice cold bevvy. Very nice and attentive people who also have is a few hot tips for Austin too. Food wise, the menu is comprised of various chicken strip meals, with sides and choices of dip. I got the 4 tender meal which came with cornbread, mac and cheese and fries, all for the bargain price of $10. You could easily share this between 2, as I did. Chicken tenders - legit the best chicken tenders I've ever had. They were piping hot, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and packed with flavour. Seriously good stuff. Dips - we got the cilantro, honey Sriracha, and avocado ranch, all delicious in their own right and added a great creamy zing to the meal. Fries - they were fries. Nothing amazing, nothing bad. My boyfriend and I ordered the jumbo meal and for $13 there was so much food to share between 2 people. Bacon Mac & cheese, jalapeño corn bread, 5 (big, juicy, delicious) chicken strips, fries, and your choice of 2 of their house made "happy sauces". For sauces we chose a simple buttermilk ranch and the raspberry Chipotle. The raspberry Chipotle was the highlight of my whole day. SO GOOD and so unique, I can't recommend it more. For drinks we got a Moscow Mule and Cherry Lime Rickey. The Moscow mule was AMAZING, according to my boyfriend "best Moscow mule he's ever had". On a business trip from Dallas. Was really craving chicken strips and gravy, so I Yelp'd chicken strips and searched the reviews until I saw someone mention gravy. This was on a Friday afternoon at about 12:15. Service was quick and staff was very nice, I LOVED the music they were playing. It was 80's and 90's. Songs like Prince's "1999" and Ini Kamoze's "Here comes the Hotstepper". As for the food... Pros: Unsweet tea - Tasted fresh, not skunky. Chicken strips - Hot and delicious. Really big! I ordered three but could only eat two. They really know what they're doing when it comes to their chicken strips. So good! Fries - I'm not a big fan of fries. Not sure why. I loved them when I was younger. That said, I tried a few and I enjoyed the French fries here. They came hot and are seasoned well. If you're a fry person, I'm sure that you'll love them. Roasted cream corn - This was so good. It was hot and very tasty. It was an unexpected bonus, since I was on a hunt for chicken strips and gravy. This was an awesome surprise. Their roasted cream corn should win some kind of award. Cons: Gravy - The gravy was cold. It was tasty and since the chicken strips were so hot, they warmed the gravy a little bit, but if the gravy had been hot, it would have been more enjoyable. Sauce cup - The sauce cups are too small for a 3 strip meal, especially for the size of the chicken strips. I ran through my small cup of gravy before I finished my second strip, so even if I had been hungry enough to eat all three strips, I wouldn't have because...no gravy. If you want a good sauce to strip ratio, you might want to get the two strip meal, or just buy a second sauce cup for 99 cents. All in, it was a good value for the meal. I was excited to try Happy Chicks with my non-vegan friends, but the experience was not very good and this is why: 1. When I ordered a happy chick option from the menu, I specifically told the waiter twice I want an all-vegan meal. On the top of the menu, they have written: "choose original, spicy a grilled, or vegan." and the description of the meal so I assume if they are a vegan-friendly place when I say I want a happy chick all Vegan that everything included under that meal is vegan, but just in case I told the waiter. I get my food and I eat with confidence since I ordered the vegan version of everything (Or at least that's what I thought). I have tried very good vegan mac and cheese so I ate it as I think it's vegan, and then one of my friends is like I don't think it's vegan. I am no, I told the waiter all vegan, but I will check. I call the waiter and when she comes back and she is oh no just the chicken is vegan. So I said, I told you I wanted an all-vegan meal, If the sides aren't vegan you should have told me. I will get sick from the dairy on top of the fact that I am not paying for non-vegan food. 2. She brings the manager in who has just told a homeless person to "F off the pace" in front of all the clients he comes and he is like, "I heard you have a problem." And I said, "yes I told the waiter I wanted a full vegan happy chick and she brought me sides that arent vegan." He goes "well the chicken is vegan." In my head, I am like "Do they even understand what being vegan is?" So I said "yes, but as a vegan, I feel you should mention if anything else on the menu I am ordering is not vegan you should let me know. At least be more specific on your menu and say only the chicken and two sauces are vegan." He goes "well this is "six street." (What does that even mean?!) 3. Then with a rude face he says "oh I am vegan too!" which is totally a lie because if he was vegan he would not be working in a place where they sell animal products. Also, he would have understood my frustration. ( honestly, this frustrated me more than the fact that their menu and their waiter didn't specify that the food was not all vegan even when I asked for all vegan meal) but wait for my number 4 reason... 4. After he said that "he was vegan too" he proceeded to said our vegan options have a v next to it. And I said "yes, but on top of your menu you have literally "CHOOSE: ORIGINAL, SPICY, GRILLED OR VEGAN" and then you proceed to have the options with the descriptions. it's not very clear that's just the meat portion that's vegan. if it's just the chicken you should have a note at the bottom of the menu or something to make that clear. And I also told your waiter all vegan, so she should have said oh no, it's just the chicken that's vegan and he said " She is a child, she doesn't comprehend" Yes, I know! I also couldn't believe what I was listening so I asked: "what?" and he said again, "She is a child, she doesn't comprehend". Which to be honest angrier me even more. In my head, I was asking myself: "Do you hire children in your establishment?, " what do you mean that "she can't comprehend"? That's just so demining and rude. If you talk to your clients about your staff like that, how do you speak to them in private? Anyway, I did get my meal for free which was not the point. I was not really looking for that when I called the manager. It was more about if you are going to classify your establishment as a vegan-friendly, be a vegan-friendly place. Make it clear on your menu that ONLY the chicken and the sauce are vegan. Also, train your waiters to be more specific and explain if someone asks for a vegan menu, to say oh well it's just the chicken that's vegan. And definitely don't hire children and then say that they can't comprehend. That's just so demeaning towards them. If you are vegan, I would not give a penny to this place. Especially because the manager tried to convince me that he is vegan. To the manager: being vegan is a lifestyle, not a fun trend. No real vegan person would work in a place where they sell animal products, so don't disrespect me and other vegans by saying that you are just to win an argument. read more

While it was a chill atmosphere, I didn't really enjoy my time here because the waitresses were not being very attentive. It took them a while to acknowledge us and take our drink orders. I actually really like Happy Chicks- but it's a pain in the ass to get. The locations on 6th street is obviously targeting the drinking/bar hopping/walking crowd on 6th- so this isn't necessarily a negative. But if you're in the mood for Happy Chicks & not already drinking on 6th it's a real pain to get to (you have to park a street or two over & then walk there.) And Uber-Eats or Favor isn't a great option either. On Uber-Eats, they don't offer all the menu items (for example, they don't offer the Happy Chick item) and the items they do offer are much more expensive. And for some reason, Favor will say the restaurant is closed & you can't order- even when it's open. But the chicken tenders, sauces and roasted cream corn is so delicious!! I wish it were easier to get because I'm absolutely addicted to it! read more

I frequently travel to Austin, TX for work and Happy Chicks is a required stop each time. Austin is in no short of fried chicken options, but Happy Chicks has proven to be one of the best. Their chicken is always juicy and flavorful. I am not sure what spices they use in their batter, but it is good. Beyond the chicken itself, they have a great bar to sit at solo or with a buddy, and a great beer selection. As a traveler I love to try local beers and the bartenders always help me navigate some new-to-me local brews. Happy Chicks also asks you for your sauce choices with each meal. I'd give as many as you can a try. I'd suggest the quest. Yes, quest on chicken. I was skeptical, I was wrong. Overall, Happy Chicks is a great stop in the heart of downtown Austin and I wish I could go more often! read more

The food was fantastic. The service not so much. We ordered a meal tonight (3/1 at about 11:30 pm)and told the gal behind the counter that it was to go. When the food came to the table we were waiting at it was on a tray for us to eat there. When I mentioned that it was supposed to be "to go " the person that brought it out got an extremely sour look on her face, said absolutely nothing, turned on her heel and in a very shitty fashion took our food to the back and boxed it up.
