The restaurant opened at 7 am and we stumbled in at about 730 for a Pre Snowboarding meal. Took a minute to get the hosts attention but she was in the back cleaning. So thats perfectly fine. The Hot Chocolate was mind blowing. I ordered the French Toast with a Side of ham. They bring out fresh maple syrup and Strawberry Syrup made with real strawberries. My Friend ordered this meal with an English Waffle and Eggs and Sausage. It looked delicious as well. My French toast didnt disappoint, and it was a nice side of ham. The whole experience was spot on. And the host was friendly and a doll. And the price cant be beat. When Im in Georgetown next I know where I will be eating at. read more

The Happy Cooker made me sad... Ew. Absolutely disgusting. My family and I stopped by for lunch where we waited a full hour. We asked to get takeout because it was taking so long and when we opened our boxes, the food was bland, cold and obviously microwaved. Our waitress ignored us half the time and nobody greeted us on the way in. Overall one of the worst restauraunt experiences I've ever had. Overall, we had a nice experience. Our server was fantastic, really attentive to our needs. They have a nice outdoor seating area. I ordered a loaf of the jalapeño cheddar bread to share with the table, and we enjoyed that. I was disappointed in my quiche. We saw a high on the highway that read "Happy Cooker Restaurant" and my husband said "we're eating there". We had never heard of this beautiful historic town and the Happy Cooker far exceeded our expectations. The food and the service was excellent. AJ was our waitress and very personable and kind. Large portion of Homemade biscuits and gravy with large slices of bacon (or sausage) along with fruit for just under $7.00. Wish I had remembered to take a picture of our plates of food . They even have loaves of homemade bread should you wish to purchase them. Very happy we ate there. read more

We were not made to feel welcome as the posted hand written sign noted a 4pm closure in 32 minutes and the wait staff repeating to is that "no more food" would be served. It may not be fair to offer two stars as we were never invited to eat there. The young man at the desk mentioned that if we wanted to enjoy beverages we would have to take them to go. We were there to enjoy the Christmas festival and wanted a beverage, sit down would have been nice. When the young man vrought out the waitress to take our order she correctly informed us that Irish hot chocalate had to be enjoyed inside NO to go orders, and also mentioned "no more food was coming out of the kitchen". Worked at each other confused, but as we were primed for any beverage decide to sit down. The waitress who sat us asked if we were ready to order and when we hesitated started to run off, we told her we were ready to order and she continued to depart muttering "sure you are". This is when we all realized at the same moment that sitting in a dank, dirty mountain town eatery, without food and now waiting to order hot chocolate was not worth the unwelcome attitude and lack of service. We collectively rose from the table and started towards the door. Another staff member asked if we were leaving and I replied "yes, she was too rude". When our first server asked one of us why we were leaving,she was told that her snotty attitude and rude demeanor was too much to handle, we were then treated to a course of God Bless you, God Bless you...God Bless you as we exited the door. Words to describe this place: Cute Charming Hospitable Historic Tasty! We got here at around 8:30 on a Monday, and there was literally one other table. As the morning went on, it filled up a bit so I can sort of see where people are coming from when they say that the place fills up fast. The atmosphere is charming to say the least. The building looks like it was once an old house and it just somehow feels right. Paintings for sale hang on the walls and the lady's bathroom is lit solely by Christmas lights. I loved it. Food is good, portions are good, prices are fair. My coffee cup was never empty, or even under half, which made me happy. The potatoes were actually crisp! Not all soggy and gross like other places. Just all around nice and charming. If your worried about it filling up and/or poor service, I'd advise getting here early.... it's quaint and, did I already say this, charming. read more

I have to admit that we have driven by Georgetown many times and had no desire to stop. But I heard about this cafe from someone and decided to head up here for a Sunday breakfast. It turned out to be a delicious breakfast tucked on the Main Street of a quaint, historic town! The breakfast was good and the waitress was super nice! Some of the customers in there were 'regulars' and it had a relaxed comfortable atmosphere. Good bacon and eggs and my husband really liked the French toast. The charming buildings and shoppes in the town are from the 1800's. We were there pretty early on a Sunday so not everything was open yet but I want to go back again and go through all the shoppes! After taking my two young-adult children up Mt. Bierstadt, their first 14er, we were hungry for some lunch and chose this place. We're all vegetarian so we each ordered The Jess sandwich (hummus, tomato, avocado & lettuce). The server highly recommended getting it on one of their artisan breads. The menu shows a $2 surcharge for that, but I know we were only charged $.50 or $1. I had it on jalapeño cheddar bread; my kids chose sun-dried tomato basil. We all were very pleased with our selections. While the ingredients were simple, our sandwiches were great! And bonus - the sandwich stayed together instead of the bread sliding all over, making a mess. I have no idea why, but it was nice not having to fight that. Happy Cooker Is not a "happy" atmosphere We went to have breakfast, wanted to sit outside, we chose a table by a garden area in quiet corner. Was told by hostess that we could not have that table because that would not give waitresses equal tables. Out of eight tables, one was occupied. We went with where she placed us, which was right by all incoming patrons and the hostess podium. Eventually all outside tables filled, except for one. Patrons came in, some wanted seated indoors, but one asked to sit outside, the hostess said they could not sit at the table outside and would have to eat inside--they were given same reason as we were, but by then as I noted all tables but the one was taken. I was shocked. Tourist come to the mountains to enjoy the cool weather, we cannot enjoy eating outside at home. Additionally, I ordered their quiche of the day; my piece was dry and about 3'x3', with fresh seasonal fruit. While peaches are seasonal right now in CO, (store in downtown, right down the block from the Happy Cooker is selling them), I was served canned peaches. Husband had sunny side up eggs that were over cooked. Our waitress seemed to have forgot how to smile. Will not go back ever and do not recommend. read more

2nd time here. Waited about 20 min for a table outside, no big deal. However, once we sat down we didn't see our server for another 15 min. Her demeanor was nice but frantic & it felt we were more of a burden & I felt bad asking for extra napkins. They were not that busy bc having every other table blocked from COVID. My final straw for the Happy Cooker came this past week when we tried to eat there. We arrived and were greeted by a sign indicating that they were closed. I'm not mad they were closed, I get that. This was frustrating because no where did they indicate on their website, their Yelp or Google business hours that they would not be open. Another local restaurant we like was closed as well, but they took the time to update their hours on Yelp so we knew and didn't plan on dining there. At this point we have determined that we have given The Happy Cooker enough chances, I won't be getting off the highway to hope that they're open, that they have enough staff, etc. If we're in the area and it's not to busy we might consider them again but we prefer to patron business that are consistent and more organized. read more

After a lovely train ride with out of town company, we wandered along Sixth St. and decided to try The Happy Cooker Restaurant opting for patio seating. We were greeted by an affable young man at the host stand who gave us a ten to fifteen minute window for seating and fit us in well within the time frame. Our server came promptly with a cheerful smile and took our drink order. Our drinks arrived quickly and that was the last of our positive experience. It took over ten minutes to return for our order and after a few questions and recommendations I decided on the Pita sandwich. One thing that has always put me off is when the accompanying side of a sandwich is bagged potato chips. I did have the option of paying two dollars more for a side salad, soup or fruit; but, given that my veggie sandwich was eleven dollars and highly recommended by my server, I figured the sandwich would be perfect regardless. About twenty minutes passed and I flagged down our server for a drink refill. One of my companions noticed that the people who came after us were already enjoying their lunch. Well, I just thought that perhaps their order was a faster prep than ours. After another ten plus minutes and no sign of our server, I went toward the inside dining room and stopped the friendly host explaining that we had been waiting over thirty minutes and hadn't received our lunch. He did apologize and said he'd check with the kitchen. About five minutes passed and out came our food accompanied by our server whose attitude had become cool and unfriendly. No apologies...no refills....the plates were placed down and off she went with a facial expression that we read clearly as very peevish. The pita sandwich on my plate was not the same as the menu had translated. It was a sloppily filled cluster of warm, oily/greasy peppers, onions, mushrooms and coagulated cheese topped with a wilted lettuce leaf and two thin slices of tomato.....the pita was otherwise dry except for the oil and the avocado was totally absent. I took a few bites and waited for our server to return and check on us. Instead, once again, I had to flag her down after ten minutes and explain that the avocado was missing. She said she thought that they were out of avocado but would check with the "kitchen". She returned and explained that the avocado they had was "hard" and asked if I would still like it? "No thanks" I replied. My companions were not thrilled with their offerings but ate what they could. By that time I was now planning my visit to speak with management. Our poor server, needed training on how to embrace customers who were not having a good experience beginning with an apology. Good communication skills are essential and a caring attitude goes a long way. Also, knowing what items are not available is essential to good service. After all, I had a successful career in the Food and Beverage industry beginning as a dishwasher at seventeen working into upper management in my mid and later years. I know that most unhappy guests will leave a restaurant, never complain, never return and tell all of their friends about their terrible experience. That is why "table touching" is key to service. This is when a manager stops by your table and asks how you are enjoying your meal and experience. If a manager is unavailable, a lead server/ supervisor can do the same. Of course, it is ultimately up to the server to communicate any issues with management. Having said that, I calmly walked into the restaurant and asked the host if I could speak to the manager. I told him that I felt our experience could be a teaching moment and I wanted to share some observations. He politely explained that the manager is also the owner and chef. I explained about the long wait for food and absence of avocado. I gave him my check and returned to the table. Our server returned shortly and placed the check on the table announcing "the pita sandwich was taken off the bill". Still no apologies or caring words. The host, however, did stop by our table and ask if the problem had been resolved. We replied "yes" although we were left with feelings of disappointment, frustration and dissatisfaction. We did leave a twenty percent gratuity on the full amount prior to the discount. I truly believe that the server has not received proper training and that is a reflection of poor management. Clearly wearing multiple "hats" is not an effecient or effective manner in which to run a restaurant. I took the time to read a few previous reviews and responses from the owner. Being "short staffed" is not an acceptable reason for poor service and subpar food. Seating can be staggered to accomodate kitchen and floor staffing issues. My daughter got takeout this morning for breakfast - a bagel sandwich and potatoes. It came out of the kitchen in a cake box all tossed around. "Garnished" with a slice of pineapple, a piece of wilted lettuce and grapes that were all mixed in with the potatoes since the cake box is not exactly the right container for to go breakfast. Really cool old town with this little restaurant in the middle of downtown. The service is pretty slow and the service wasn't that friendly, but they were limited on staff. We stopped here before going to the Georgetown Loop. I got the gouda chicken sandwich, my wife got the salad and the kids got the Miner burger and kids meal grilled cheese. Great little cafe in Georgetown! We stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday before our train ride. We were told there would be a 30 minute wait, so we got in the list. We got the text that our table was ready after only about 20 minutes. I had the breakfast burrito with vegetarian chili. Excellent chili that was clearly homemade in their kitchen. One of my kids had the waffle surprise with strawberries (the 'surprise' was a scoop of ice cream!). My other kid had corned beef hash, again clearly homemade! My daughter got the same thing but with sausage instead of bacon. The bacon was so overcooked that at least 3/4 of each piece was charred and black. Her sausage was dried out and chewy. The potatoes were half undercooked and half overcooked (black). We both asked for our eggs scrambled soft and my daughter instead got overcooked eggs, that were dry and spongy. My eggs on the other hand though they weren't scrambled soft like i asked but they weren't necessarily overcooked. Really the only thing that was cooked properly was the toast. This restaurant was so chic. When I walked in i felt like I was traveling back in time. Everyone there greeted me with happy faces. Throughout the visit they patted me on my back and told me I was a rockstar. This gave me warm feelings inside. Now the food was just divine! I had the waffle surprise with a side of sausage! They did not mind when I asked for half peaches and half strawberries as my fruit! They were happy to refill my hot chocolates and orange juice. My boyfriend got a hot chicken and vegetable pita! It looked so good! The way the chicken miked with the juices of the peppers and onions was to die for! The service was just fantastic!! I would like to begin to talk about their beautiful host! She greeted me with a warm and perky smile. She then sat me at a table right at the window, so I could have the joy of looking outside without being outside. This is great, because I didn't have to deal with bugs, dirt, wind, sun, rain. I am just the type of person who likes to see outside rather than be there! Our waitress looked a lot like our host, maybe they are sisters?? She was very kind! She was also understanding when I didn't know what I wanted. She then told me her favorite, so I did have help choosing my meal. We enjoyed our meal so much that we decided to being home an oriental salad for the traffic ride home. Stopped here on the way back to Denver for lunch. People who work here are very nice, however the food was terrible. When it arrived it looked like it had been sitting for a while. It was cold. AND it tasted like a bottle of salt was poured into it. My buddy's order came out wrong and had to be sent back. There is very little about this place that is happy. On a recent chilly day my hubby and I ventured up to the mountains and I, craving an eggs benedict chose this restaurant. I specifically asked if the hollandaise sauce was housemade or from a mix. I was told "everything we do is scratch". I avoid MSG because it makes me sick and it is in nearly every powdered sauce mix I have ever encountered. As soon as the plate was put in front of me (almost 30 minutes later I should add) I knew it wasn't real. One taste confirmed it. I scraped it off, ate my excruciatingly over poached eggs, refilled my own coffee and waited patiently for my server to come back so I could politely tell her for her own information that the sauce on the benedict was not scratch.She went and checked with the "chef" and seemed pretty adamant that it was made in house. I asked her what the ingredients are and she had no idea, when I told her "egg yolks, lemon, butter- that's it" she said "Oh. I don't think ours has that stuff in it" My husband had the burrito. After adding an obscene amount of salt and pepper and a half a bottle of tabasco he said it was "edible". We're not picky people, but don't lie to customers and tell them things are scratch when they're not...adding butter to powder doesn't count as "made in house" The vibe on main street there was that we had chosen pretty poorly. Not one shopkeeper could say a nice thing except for "the cinnamon rolls aren't bad". If we do go again, that's what we'll stick with. read more

The Happy Cooker is a lovely eatery nestled in beautiful Georgetown. I have been eating brunch here for years. I have taken my family and out of town guests who also enjoy brunch here, especially if it's warm and sunny so we can take advantage of the patio out front. Even if the snow if falling outside it's enjoyable because that just adds to the charm. I love the salmon Benedict. The hollandiase is so creamy and the amount of salmon they serve it great. The chipped beef gravy is also a favorite. They have a daily quiche among other great brunch dishes. My only wish for the Happy Cooker is that they do bottomless mimosas! read more

Stopped in on a this morning and were disappointed by the service and food. The hostess was rude and yelled at 2 groups of customers--- at one point giving a customer "the hand" as she ignored him. When she sat us at the patio, we requested a table in the sun and she said no and sat us at a shaded table. I'm pretty sure the whole patio was frustrated with her, however we had no problems once our waitress decided to show up. I ordered biscuits and gravy and my boyfriend had the mountain breakfast. Can't compare with anything in town, but this seems to be the only one with a patio. Unfortunately it is also where buses park, so you get fumes of engines when they stay running to keep the air conditioning. Anyway, the patio is beautiful. The waitresses were completely overwhelmed (a bus had just arrived) thankfully we had plenty of time. We had french dip, meatloaf and bagel and eggs and everybody was happy with there food. However we were so hungry so we would have eaten anything. Anyway, the patio totally makes it. Service was bad our third visit to this establishment. Our waitress seemed agitated and frustrated. Our food was delivered without place settings. I looked directly at our waitress and told her that none of us had place settings. She didn't even acknowledge me then executed an about face. I got up from our table and found 6 place settings so we could eat immediately to prevent our food from getting cold. She also delivered 2 water carafes minus 6 glasses. She automatically gave herself an 18 percent gratuity. Party of 5 or more automatically receives an 18 percent gratuity. The only reason I give such a low rating is because of how unbelievably rude our waitress was to us. She was an older thin blonde-ish lady, I don't remember her name, but I've never in my life been treated this way by anyone in a customer service job. When she first approached, she seemed pleasant enough. My friend and I were in a very important discussion and were not ready to order right away so we told her three times we were not ready to please give us some time. She seemed annoyed by this. The food took a long time to come. My friend made eye contact with her three times and raised her hand trying to get a drink refill. She walked past our table with no eye contact and barely mumbled "I'll be with you in a minute". She then proceeded to help the table next to us. I really could tell you all about how none of the food was really "cooked" or about how without a rest.com cert I would have paid 40+ for a lunch that made us both feel ill for hours after. I have now checked off "eating worst food in America" on my bucket list. Very salty and must have been born from a can. The quiche was rubbery with only specks of asparagus, the bacon was 99% inedible fat chunks. Maybe made from canned eggs? Coffee was fine bit the little creamers were a mix of domed, signifying a pressure build up and spoilage, and normal creamers. I used the "normal" ones.
