Cute little pop up ice cream vendor outside of Gemini. The ice cream was pretty good and the service was quick. Just thought the ice cream was a tad overpriced. Not sure if I would try again as this is a place I would like to check out once

This place is a wine bar that offers ice cream as well. In the winter, no scoops are offered and there are pints to go, as well as a food menu that included ice cream cake, which I thought was worth a shot. The space is very limited and there was no restroom in evidence; it would be a better experience walking by their ice cream cart in the summer I'm guessing. My slice took a bit to arrive, but it was an impressive creation. The flavors of candied orange and olive oil were somewhat esoteric, but there was just enough chocolate to get that satisfying feeling of having eaten a dessert. It was a rich and indulgent creation. Some of their ice cream flavors seem well worth coming back for when weather permits.

The cutest little ice cream cart, serving unique flavors--and possibly the best ice cream in DC! The line is always long... really long--but honestly, it's worth it. The price is a bit steep, but comparable to other spots in DC like Van Leeuwen, Thomas Sweet, and Dolcezza. There isn't much seating, but grabbing a scoop for a summer walk is kind of the perfect vibe, so no real complaints there. Some of my favorite flavors are the dark chocolate orange, popcorn, and milk chocolate oatmeal cookie. Only giving it 4 stars because of the wild line and high price, but the ice cream itself is a solid 5 stars!

The sweetest little ice cream stand with the most creative flavors! The line was long and took a while but was worth the wait :) I tasted a polenta flavor which I was not expecting to like and ended up ordering it along with the chocolate oatmeal cookie. The staff was super friendly and the popped inside to take a look and the wine and dessert bar looked even cuter. Will definitely be back to try and snag a spot inside!

My favorite ice cream spot in dc. They have different flavors every day the cart is out. The cart is usually only out when it's warm outside, and until 8:30 pm so make sure to arrive before then. The line to get ice cream can get long but it is worth the wait. The Basque Cheesecake flavor is my favorite flavor-- so so good. Other flavors I like are the Chocobanana with Chococookie, Coffee Stracciatella (I prefer their coffee with the dark chocolate shavings instead of the fudge swirl), and Figleaf and Black Raspberry Streusel (reminds me of my favorite Jeni's flavor Brambleberry Crisp but fresher). The Olive Oil with Cocoa Crumble is also popular and good here.

This place was located next to Gemini under a little tent for ice cream. The line moves by really quickly so don't be alarmed by the little line! The music was great, the worker was so kind, and it was a great experience. They have rotating flavors but we chose Ricotta with Blueberry, as well as the Olive Oil with mocha crumble. AMAZING!! The olive oil is topped with a little salt and olive oil. It's the right amount of richness without being overpoweringly sweet. It's a little expensive ($7 for single, $9 double) but so worth it! The portion sizes may be small for some people but for me it's perfect. I'll be back!

Happy Ice Cream is a cart outside of the restaurant Gemini. This evening, the line was quite long, so my friend and I waited for about 20-25 minutes before we were served our ice cream. The cart is super minimal and cute. The flavors here are on the more unique side and they rotate/change on the daily (there's only 4 per day, I think). The scooper told me to look out for the dark chocolate & orange flavor because it's one of her favorites. I don't know about you, but chocolate x orange combo slaps. SINGLE SCOOP - 6 Today, our options were mint chip, fig leaf (blackberry & streusel), basque cheesecake (passion fruit swirl), and olive oil (cocoa crumble). You can choose a cup or cone (and no up charge for it). The scooper did such a nice job scooping the most perfect spheres of ice cream and it was neatly tucked inside the opening of the cone. Like it was so aesthetically pleasing. I was able to try the fig leaf and olive oil flavors. While I enjoyed the olive oil more (with its deep cocoa flavors), I found it too sweet for my liking. The fig leaf was nice and tart with some crunchy streusel crumbles. With the cone, I found it to be too sweet after I was halfway done and couldn't finish all of it. Sample a couple flavors that sound interesting to you and get a scoop (or two)! My friend got the basque cheesecake and she really enjoyed it. We were silently walking while we focused on eating our ice cream.

Long line but so worth it! Good for a balmy summer evening. It was an impromptu decision to join the line after exiting CVS adjacent to Gemini. We got sheep ricotta and buttery toast and I'm a fan of the former. I also got to try the dark chocolate which tastes absolutely delicious. I heard that they serve different flavors in pints in the shop vs outside in the nice cream cart. Would love to try other flavors in the future!

my favorite ice cream place in dc :) way better than Jeni's or Jubilee! The flavors rotate daily and are special/seasonal - some of my favs throughout the year are olive oil cocoa crumble (this one is a staple), grape & labneh, popcorn & polenta!

Whenever I walk along 17th street I'm always so so excited to come across Happy Cart! They are so wholesome and their vibes make me feel like a giddy kid again. They're expensive, yes, and their scoops are smaller than a typical ice cream shop, but I find their serving size is perfect. They also always have unique creative flavors that rotate every few weeks and allow samples. Tried out their grapefruit pie- incredible. The olive oil- how did they think of such a thing and make it delicious. The poppy seed lemon- unlike any other ice cream I've had before. The oatmeal cookie- one of the best in the game. Anyway, if you ever find yourself on 17th street, give them a try!

One of Washington, D.C.'s best ice cream shops is a cart in Dupont Circle along popular 17th Street N.W. Check Happy Ice Cream's Instagram Story Tuesday-Saturday for their daily flavors and get there a few minutes before they open to snag a scoop. My five-year-old daughter and I went on a Tuesday right at 4:30 p.m. Here's our experience: 1) Ice Cream: They usually have four different flavors each day they are open. When we went, they had Popcorn, Olive Oil, Buttermilk and Lemon, and Uber Banana. My daughter got a scoop of the Popcorn with coffee caramel and corn cake mixed in. My Olive Oil ice cream came with cocoa crumble. Wow. Both were really good and we both devoured our scoops, complete with fresh waffle cones. They sell pints of certain flavors inside Happy Gyro, the restaurant the cart is in front of and connected to. 2) Price: It's very pricey, even for D.C. A small (and it's small compared to Ice Cream Jubilee and Jeni's) scoop is $6 and a large is $8. Over a dollar extra for a small waffle cone. 3) Service: It's friendly. The man behind the cart was very kind and asked us about our days/summers while he scooped our order. 4) Neighborhood: It's along Dupont Circle's 17th Street NW with street parking, Stead Park, murals, bars, and restaurants nearby. Rainbows decorate the crosswalks.

Finally got here at a time where the line wasn't absolutely insane. The ice cream was delicious (got olive oil with cocoa crumble). It was thick and creamy, and the olive oil paired so well with the ice cream. They also added on flaky sea salt which gave an extra layer of flavor dimension, and the cocoa crumble was perfectly crunchy without being soggy/losing texture. It was somewhere in between cookie pieces and sprinkles. All that being said, the size was pretty small for the price, and the line is slow because only one person is there to handle the scooping, payment, presentation, etc. I would stop by again if I was in the area during an off hour, but I don't think I would wait in the massive line for the ice cream now that I've had it once.

Quick moving line! Daily unique rotating flavors! The cones are SO delicious (not sure what they're made of but had a cinnamon flavor)! Both my flavors I also thoroughly enjoyed! I loved the Buttermilk & Fig Leaf! Scoops aren't super large but worth the price due to unique flavors!

I was still a little hesitant until this nice woman came along and vouched for the food. I had no idea about what to order, but as soon as I saw her food come out I was sold. I told the guys to give me exactly what she had, which included a quarter chicken, corn, and potatoes. I got back up to my office and enjoyed all of it. The chicken was well done and well seasoned, the corn was tasty, and the potatoes were better than what I was expecting. Can't really explain it but they were like roasted and mashed at the same time.. whatever it was it was great! Oh and that sweet orange sauce that they gave me took the chicken to another level. Insert fire emojis Lastly, the guys working the truck were some of the coolest food truck people that I've ever interacted with. Combine that with good food and you can def count on my coming back again.

Both times I've ordered the same thing - a quarter dark meat with one side. It comes with basmati rice (which you can sub out for a different side) and a choice of a salad, coleslaw, and corn. I've chosen the coleslaw both times - I find it so unique, with its cabbage and basil-like dressing. Definitely NOT your usual slaw. I will try the corn one of these days, though. On to the chicken - They give you a good amount of chicken and it is very, very juicy. I can't comment about the skin (I don't eat the skin, I take it off...I know to some of you that's a sin!) but my co-workers have previously commented that it is nicely seasoned. They also provide you with a mild barbeque sauce, and today they gave me a new sauce, which was curry-based. It's slightly thicker than the barbeque sauce, which while it has good flavor, is a bit thinner (it complements, not overpowers, the chicken). I alternated between both sauces today. I have to also complement the owner/manager - I had exactly $8 in cash (keep forgetting about the taxes for food trucks!) so he let me go without paying the $.80, that was really nice of him. I'll be sure to give it back to him next time! Overall, a solid, filling meal, and I would return!

There are lots of hand-made craft and unique gift items (ramen stall, truffle stall, cat & dog stalls, as well as plenty of jewelry, chocolate, candle, toys, ornament, and crafts stalls). I bought a Ramen bowl from Japan for hubby, Truffle butter @ Truffist, and dark chocolate Oreos (the dark chocolate pretzels aren't that good) @Capital City Jar, kudos for being a long-time vendor! I also got an overpriced $40 onesie @SOL, the material was very soft and made in the U.S. In terms of the hot chocolate stalls, the Truffle stall and the S'mores N More are my favorite. The Marshmallows are gigantic and should have mixed them in! I got a pack of 6 marshmallows and picked out the flavors - Rainbow, Cookies and Cream, and Toffee Marshmallows. The Racklette sandwich was delicious - you must try it! It was so fascinating to watch the melty swiss cheese get scooped off the big truckle cheese wheel and sandwiches into a soft baguette roll. The Churros with Dulce Leche filling are a must - I always get the every year! Kudos for being a long-time vendor! The Dirty Habit Chalet boozy is a bit gimmicky. I paid $17 for Whiskey and Cider, I wish it was served warm and the service was lukewarm. The air-fried Gnocchi from Carmine's was a complete miss and a total disappointment. The Gnocchi lacked the crispy edges and pillowy soft juicy center. The texture was completely off from the air fryer. And each year I always end up bypassing it because after a long day at work, the last thing I want to do is be jammed in with a bunch of other people going from booth to booth. I finally took the time to visit here and probably picked one of the worst times to visit, during a hockey game. With the influx of people coming into the area for the game and the arena right there, it made navigating to and through a nightmare. The downside here, and it is probably the only downside, are the amounts of other people. They will do one of two things. One, forget about their awareness to where they are. By this I mean that they will forget they are not the only person here at the holiday market. Two, the other people will either push you along, or walk at a glacial pace. Jamming up crosswalks and entrances to the main area. Two things you cannot control and you just have to go with the flow here. I will say it is lively and welcoming. Once you do make it into the stall area you will have to take your time to sift through what there is to offer. From gifts to food, you can find it all here. Live music is a usual draw as well which lends to the magical feel that you are in the middle of a DC street and don't have to worry about a thing. All of the vendors are local, so this is a big shop small venue. Offering you everything you can think of as a gift for a special somebody. Definitely worth a look around the holiday season.

If you want the TL;DR: Stop reading and order food…read more Thanks again fellow yelpers. As I was frigidly walking down the street, looking at food truck after food truck. I remembered the misfortune of not checking here before I ordered. This time, I checked a handful and then came across the reviews for Royal Chicken & Gyro. 2018 is looking up! The yellow truck is one of the most nondescript food trucks I've seen in a while, and one of the best experiences I've had. As I walked up, a nice woman greeted me. She was very nice, as was the other woman in the truck. I then asked the first woman what the combo over rice was. She explained that it was chicken and gyro meat over rice. She then went on to explain that gyro was beef and lamb mixed together. Being a meat lover, I decided that is what I would have, but let me back up for a moment. I have a problem. I generally order the most expensive thing on the menu (food-wise and proportional for 1-2 people). I love seafood, weird food, and more importantly, really good food. Back to the review at hand...So, I order the most expensive thing on the menu: Chicken and Gyro over rice. It was $10. It comes with chick peas (if you want) and a salad in a recyclable clamshell divided container. I asked for no napkins/plasticware seeing as I have those in my office. Let me say that all of the food (save the salad) was cooked very well. It was all very flavorful. The tzatziki sauce is wonderful as was the hot sauce. The meats were bigger than bite size, but not too big, and tender. Really everything about this meal was great including the chick peas and even the salad dressing. I'm even not one for salad dressing usually. The rice was also a good complement to the great flavors of the meat. I would recommend going to this food truck if you see it. You will not be disappointed. I will definitely return here if I see that yellow Royal Chicken & Gyro truck again. A random interesting note, roughly half of the food pictures have keyboards in the background.

On my second day in DC, I had brought a sack lunch to avoid paying museum shop prices - they're nuts! However, it was absolutely freezing and I really wanted something warm to sip. My friend and I noticed a bright orange, coffee kiosk, van thingee (yes that is the scientifically correct term, thank you...) and wondered if they would be just as bad, or offer some sort of competitive relief. We didn't stop right away, but all day I hoped to see the orange van again so I could check it out. When we finally did circle back around, on our way to the White House, the van was gone. My friend jabbed me playfully in the ribs and said, "aww, looks like your coffee van is no more." Then we turned a corner, and there it was! First thing I was pleased to find was that it destroyed gift shop prices on coffee by about $1-3 cheaper. Second point of awesomeness was that they round all their prices to the dollar. No $3.39 drinks here! Just nice round numbers, and they took my VISA. The coffee was fantastic. Incredibly strong (I love it that way) without being sharp at all. Very surprisingly rich. I haven't had a cup of coffee that good for $2 in a very, very long time. Half and half or whole milk are served by request from a pitcher and sugar or sugar substitute are self-serve. After having accepted defeat and disappointment in thinking I'd missed them, only to find them a moment later, it was a victory that could only be sweetened by free stuff. Did I mention the free stuff? There is free stuff: While almost every coffee shop that serves espresso these days will charge you 50 cents for a shot of flavoring, Maui Wowi has their coffee flavoring out on a rack attached to the side of the van so you can do it yourself - and the flavors are as complementary as cream and sugar. I chose English Toffee just because it's something I've never had in coffee before.
