I've been here for many years now and it's so refreshing to see how much the restaurant has evolved from only offering al la carte to a full all you can eat menu. The service is always amazing here, from the servers, to the food runners, to the bussers. When I come I usually only come in parties or 2-4 but decided to host my birthday dinner here with a full party of 12. Jin took care of me and my family and always checked in frequently. I was craving hot pot and decided to check this place out. For a weekend lunch price, it was $35/person all you can eat. We may have gone a little crazy but I think it was worth it. I'm leaving this review specifically because of my experience with Happy Lamb Hot Pot's 20th Anniversary Special promotion, which was honestly one of the most frustrating dining experiences I've had in a long time. I went to the restaurant at around 3:00 PM specifically to take advantage of the promotion. One of the first things that immediately became frustrating is that there is no way to join the waitlist online at the Cupertino location (or any in California from what I saw). You have to physically go to the restaurant and put your name down in person. When I arrived, I was told the wait could be up to around three hours, and Yelp was showing an estimated wait of roughly two hours. I figured that was reasonable. I was willing to wait a few hours if it meant I could actually enjoy the promotion for dinner. What really confused me, though, was seeing the number of people waiting to be seated while looking into the restaurant and seeing a significant number of empty tables and booths. There were people sitting around waiting, yet many seats inside appeared to be unoccupied. I understand that restaurants have to manage tables, staffing, reservations, turnover, etc., but on a day when you have been advertising a major anniversary promotion for weeks, it was extremely difficult to understand why so many people were waiting while so much of the dining area appeared empty. I was initially around #113 on the waitlist. At first, the list actually moved fairly quickly, so I was optimistic. By around 6 PM, I had moved up considerably and was somewhere around the 50s. At that point I thought, okay, maybe I'll have a chance around 7 or 8 PM. I was prepared to have a late dinner. Unfortunately, the waitlist essentially slowed to a crawl. The progress I had been making earlier completely stopped, and it became increasingly obvious that I was not going to get seated anytime remotely close to when I had expected. Around 8:15 PM, I called the restaurant to ask about the wait. I was told that I might potentially get a table around 9 PM. I was completely fine with that. At that point, I already understood that because the restaurant closes at 10 PM, I probably wouldn't get the full 90-minute dining period. Even getting about an hour to enjoy the promotion would have been fine with me. I had already waited for hours. So I called again around 9 PM, expecting to finally have some clarity as I was also nearing the top of the waitlist. Instead, I was told that the restaurant was closing the waitlist because they were too busy. At that point, I was honestly just extremely disappointed. I had physically gone to the restaurant at 3 PM, put my name on the waitlist, waited for hours, watched the list move and then seemingly slow down dramatically, called multiple times, and ultimately ended up with nothing. The whole point of this promotion was to bring customers in and allow people to enjoy the anniversary special, but the way the waitlist and seating were handled made the promotion feel almost impossible to take advantage of unless you were lucky enough to get seated early at one of their half-opened booths. Another thing that bothered me was the interaction when I initially went to put my name on the waitlist. The employee at the counter came across as extremely unhappy and unwelcoming. I understand that working during a busy promotion can be stressful, and I don't expect employees to be smiling every second, but the overall attitude made the initial experience that any customer would have even worse. I also want to emphasize that this was not an unexpected busy day. Happy Lamb had been advertising the 20th Anniversary promotion on social media for quite some time. If a restaurant has been promoting a major deal for weeks, it shouldn't come as a surprise that customers are going to show up specifically for that promotion. The restaurant should have been prepared for the demand and, at minimum, should have had a better system for handling the enormous number of customers who wanted to participate. I completely understand that a restaurant can become overwhelmed and that not everyone can be seated. That's not what I'm upset about. What I'm upset about is the combination of the extremely long waitlist, lack of an online waitlist option, apparent empty seating while customers were waiting, the dramatic slowdown in the waitlist, and ultimately closing the waitlist after customers had already spent hours waiting. If you advertise a major promotion, customers shouldn't have to spend essentially their entire afternoon and evening waiting just to find out at 9 PM that they aren't going to be allowed to participate. I really hope Happy Lamb takes the feedback from this promotion seriously. The anniversary special itself sounded like a great idea, but the way the customer flow and waitlist were handled completely overshadowed the promotion for me. I left feeling like I had wasted an entire afternoon and evening. read more

Came here for the first time on a Saturday night. There's a bit of a wait so I would recommend waitlisting on Yelp before you go. When we all got there, we were able to get seated immediately. Apparently they remodeled and the place looks beautiful. One complaint I have though is it may be hard to get to the sauces/dessert/other food in the back if there is a lot of people walking in and out. The space between tables along with the smaller tables they put the food on is rather small. I noticed the prices had slightly increased compared to the menu I was looking at before on Yelp (see pictures for updated menus). The food and broths were amazing! The house original is so good and you can just scoop some into your own bowl to drink. We ordered a lot of meat and noticed a couple meat platters weren't delivered during round 1; we had no issues during round 2 though. The marinated garlic beef and Australian wagyu brisket were so tasty, just all the beef in general. Pork belly was alright and I didn't eat any lamb. went here around 6:00 pm on a Saturday (valentine's day) was very packed. you walk in and there is a yelp waitlist on a tablet. we were 43rd so the wait was about going to be 2 hours, it was pretty accurate enough. we filled out a paper form while waiting to choose soup bases, proteins, noodles, etc., we found this helpful while waiting so we already know what we wanted. we were sat and they gave us water already, there is a sauce bar with unlimited starters, desserts, they also have a cotton candy machine & ice cream machine! i think that was such a great unique way of having more dessert inclusivity. we ordered a lot of meat on the menu. you can do 3 rounds and everything is pretty much self explanatory. they bring everything out pretty fast. since it was valentine's day we expected to wait long but the quality of the broth & meat was really delicious and one of the best hotpot we have been to. we really enjoyed this place and there is plentiful space but gets pretty crowded. the parking situation is a little tight since there are other restaurants, but overall everything was smooth and great once we were seated. read more

Last minute plans for a NYE dinner ... 4 of us showed up at Happy Lamb hot pot around 7:30pm. We were 28th on the waitlist even though I'd added us online, so we settled in for a wait. The lobby area was busy with waiting patrons, but they kept us engaged with their complimentary soft drinks and snacks. We got a table after about an hour, which was reasonable given our lack of planning and it being a holiday night. They only offer an AYCE menu at this time and you can place your orders 20 mins apart, apparently a maximum of 3 times. We got the AYCE premium option - $41.99 with the sauce option for an additional $3. We ordered a variety of meats with the spicy broth and the milder tomato broth. Slices of lamb, beef, some chicken, various types of sea food, quail eggs, veggies, noodles - we soon had a cart of food by our table. It was a perfect way to converse and eat and slurp our way through the spiciness while catching up with friends. The sauce bar also has some other offerings - spring rolls, fried chicken nuggets, fruit etc. which we didn't have a chance to sample. They also have a soft serve ice cream as part of the sauce bar. As hungry as we thought we were, we couldn't order round 3 and barely finished round 2. The service was prompt despite it being packed to capacity, which was great. We joined the Yelp waitlist on a Friday night at 6:10 pm with 8 parties ahead of us. By 6:40 pm, we were still 8th on the list, which was frustrating. I understand it's a busy Friday, but 30 minutes with zero movement felt excessive. We did eventually get seated, but I would not rely too heavily on the Yelp wait time. This location currently only offers AYCE, unlike the Mountain View one, though an à la carte menu is coming soon. It's $35 per person plus a $3 sauce bar fee, so about $38 per person total. The sauce bar is extensive and includes sauces, fried items, and fruit. They even have bean curd sauce, which I rarely see elsewhere and was happy to find here. Food came out quickly, and the service was fantastic. Our server was extremely attentive and anticipated our needs without us having to ask. But I got rejected to wait for dining during their 20 years anniversary celebration, how ironically. Happy Lamb advertised to have three days (8/8/26 h- 8/10/26) special AYCE for $18.95 which is actually not much cheaper than their normal weekday lunch price. I decided to join the fest since I, as a true 20 years customer, do want to celebrate the franchise. However on early afternoon of 8/10 when I tried to reach out to this restaurant in Cupertino by phone, they were always busy and not taking messages. So we just drove 35mins to the place and arrived before 5pm. There were about 10+ people waiting in and out the restaurant. There were some empty tables too. Overall it was a not so busy early dinner time on a Monday. But there was a paper sticker in front the reception desk that stated "we are not taking any new waitlist". Really? 5pm with 10+ people waiting they already threw the towel for the day and night during their 20 years anniversary celebration? When I finally got to talk to the person who seems to be a front man of the place, he already gave me this tired and unpleasant look, like he had been through hell, not a celebration. He told me people who waited since 12pm didn't get to eat yet, which sounds unbelievable to me. They had empty table, and they had only 15 people max waiting. Also why didn't they answer the phone or at least record a message telling people not to come if they really don't plan to accept anyone even before the dinner time starts!! If you don't have the capacity to host such an anniversary promotion, DON'T DO IT, DON'T ADVERTISE AS CRAZY ALL OVER THE INTERNET TWO MONTHS AHEAD, DON'T TREAT YOUR EMPLOYEES AS SLAVES THEREFORE THEY TREAT CUSTOMERS AS ENEMIES. My group of 4 came after their reopening, and they've remodeled the place to be much more modern, bright and colorful throughout. The space feels much larger than it was prior to their remodeling, which is nice, and there was a cart with snacks/drinks for people waiting for tables out front. The service wasn't the best, especially once it got busier and the tables were all seated - we found ourselves waiting to place our next order or for our items to come for almost 30 minutes at a time, which caused us to not be able to place our final order (they give you 3 rounds on the ordering sheet) until about 75 minutes into our 90 minute seating time, and the worker seemed visibly annoyed and told us our time was almost up. Even though he took our order, he only brought out 2 items from the 5 we ordered, and when we asked him about the remaining orders he told us our 90 minutes was almost up. The 90 minute time limit would be reasonable if there wasn't such a long delay between our orders, so it'd be best if you place your next order well in advance of you finishing the items you received from the previous order - inconvenient and potentially wasteful if you're not able to gauge how much you're going to eat in advance. The food itself was pretty good in quality - we especially enjoyed both lamb meats offered on the prime menu and the shrimp paste, and the cooked lamb leg was surprisingly good! They have a good variety of veggies, seafood, fish balls, tofu, noodles, etc to go in your hot pot. The soup bases were nice and flavorful, so not getting the sauce bar wasn't too big of a loss, and they did refill our broth once during our meal, though towards the end it was getting really low and we couldn't get anyone to refill it which made the broth really thick and salty. Don't waste your time -- worst service I've experienced in years. If I could give zero, I would do that. We waited over 1 hour with a group of 5 people just to dine in. After finally being seated at the table, we were told--only then--that they are not offering à la carte at all and are allowing only the all-you-can-eat menu. This is a serious problem when you have vegetarians in the group. An all-you-can-eat hot pot menu simply does not make sense for vegetarian diners. What makes this worse is the complete lack of transparency: * No announcement * No sign or board at the entrance * No communication while people are waiting for over an hour If this is your policy, have the basic decency to inform customers before they wait, not after seating them. When we raised this concern, the waiter's response was essentially: "This is all we have. Sorry. We can't help." That's not customer service--that's indifference. I have been a loyal customer for more than 5 years and have personally introduced 50+ people to this place over time. I believe this is the only location that does all you can eat and the other Happy Lamb in Mountain View is a la carte. For broth I love tomato broth because it's sweet, tangy, and similar to a tomato soup. there's also a soft serve machine in the back for chocolate, mixed, and vanilla soft serve with cones. A male staff member named B came over 2-3 times within the first 5 minutes just to ask if we were ready, but he didn't offer any help or assistance and wasn't friendly at all. When we asked about the difference between the original broth and the house spicy broth, his answer was simply "it just original and house spicy." which wasn't helpful. I went here for Thanksgiving and it was a pretty good experience. It took us 30 minutes to get a table but there are a few couches to sit on in the waiting area as well as a TV. I like the clean, modern, and stylish decor. As we were being led to our table, it made me realize that the building was so much bigger than it looks. We ended up ordering half house bone marrow broth and half spicy bone marrow broth. The broth smells amazing and is one of the best broths that I've had in a hot pot or shabu place. It has a lot of flavor without feeling too greasy or fatty. I really like the spicy bone marrow house broth. A few more things that I appreciate include giving us 4 spoons to work with, the induction heaters, and plenty of ventilation. The meats were pretty good and it felt like it was high quality. Way too much MSG in the soup. We waited about 15 minutes just for someone to take our order. The whole experience felt like it was carefully optimized to maximize profits. They make you wait an uncomfortably long time before serving, then start with a huge amount of tofu, followed by vegetables, and only bring out the meat at the very end--by which point you're already uncomfortably full on fries and fried rice (self serve bar). MSG is known to make you feel full faster, and the soup was so heavy on it that it left me with a headache. At $82 for a party of two, I expect much better. There was a lot at the finger foods bar like chicken nuggets/popcorn chicken, sweet potato fries, fries, mini cream puffs, seaweed salad, etc. it was unusual that they served chicken nuggets but they were delicious and we didn't mind it. For the broth, we went for the split of the house and tomato and usually i do not gravitate towards any tomato soup base. Happy Lamb's tomato soup base is the only exception now. It was the right amount of sweet and tangy. The meats itself was thin and the quality was there. The lamb was fatty (depends on preference, we personally don't like fatty lamb) but it was still delicious. The beef had a nice marble to it, nothing wrong with it. I'd been wanting to try this spot for a while and finally came here with friends for a celebration. We had a group of 10, so they gave us a private room with three pots, all with the half-and-half soup. One of the stoves wasn't working, but they quickly swapped it out for a portable one, which was great. The sauce bar isn't included in the AYCE and costs extra, but the service was good, and I loved the variety of ingredients--though I wish they had enoki mushrooms. It's getting cold out so my partner and I were looking for something hot and soupy for dinner. We decided to try Happy Lamb since it's not far from where I live. First of all, AYCE under $35 is a gosh darn steal. All ingredients are fresh and tasty. You order off of a menu where you check which rounds you want to get your various ingredients. Some are extra, but we were happy with all the standard offerings. There's complementary seaweed salad (mala spicy) and fruits for before/during/after your meal, and a soft serve machine. The food was very good and the sauce options were plentiful. We picked the default broth (not spicy) and enjoyed that it tasted healthy. If you get two broths, they add a divider in your pot. It's a one-pot-per table situation unless you have a larger party. Servers were attentive and quick. Only gripe is we had to flag someone down to order drinks instead of doing it off the bat, but it's really not a big deal. Overall, had a great time. We'll be back! read more

First time going to this location for hot pot. I went on a Saturday night. We ordered the spiciest base, and a mild one. There is a menu to select from. They have most meats you'd expect from hot pot, along with vegetables. Staff was friendly and very helpful with providing additional napkins and water refills. I loved the food.
