The only passable meat was chicken. Portion was small for the price. Customer service was terrible! They intentionally ignored us because we placed limited order as first timers. The same skewer sauce is used for many of the skewers and grilled items: most go fine with it, but some are just okay. Try a foil pot! The lamb and beef skewers are really good and are reasonably affordable too. I'm still searching for that "lamb skewer straight from a Chinese street cart" taste, but the grilled flavor is satisfactory enough. I didn't enjoy the gristle, the chicken skin, the pork belly, and the grilled enoki as much, though, since the sweet sauce used for all of them doesn't quite go well with everything else. The restaurant gives you a small foil platform on which to hold the skewers, slightly warmed by a candle, but I wish the skewers stay warmer longer. The sleeper hit was the tofu foil pot - addicting soup flavor, and everything in the dish really soaks in the hot pot flavor. I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time now as it was always being advertised on DoorDash. I decided to try it in person as it was less than 10 minutes away from my house. Firstly, I immediately wanted to try their skewers. The grilled chicken skin skewer was my top pick as I love peeling the fat off of fried chicken. I'll admit I was a bit disappointed as it wasn't as crunchy as I expected. Pushing that aside, I still enjoyed it. So if you order that, expect less of a crunch and more of softness. Tasty nonetheless. The beef skewer was delicious. It was very tasty and it went very well with the Fried instant noodles. The fried instant noodles were full of flavor and I truly loved it. I heard good things about this place before but never really had any intentions to go. One of my friends wanted to get together for dinner so he chose this spot randomly to try it out and made a reservation for the group. After trying it out, I can safely say that I wouldn't put this high up on my recommendation list. This restaurant is one of those places with a QR menu and you order on your phone. This isn't something I immediately put a ding on, but when you have a large group, it can get a little confusing about who is ordering what and then you have those having WiFi issues and so on. We had a few orders that we thought were put in, but the worker said they never received it. I think it would be better if they had a built-in screen at the table for ordering or given a paper checklist menu like for dim sum, so everything would be more clear. Either way, the workers were all still really nice and understanding, and they gave a free complementary item to one of the individuals who had been waiting on it for a while. The set up is basically a griddle on the table that is heated up by two tea lights, and this was where we were all doubtful of the method. The tea lights do NOTHING! I don't even think anything that came off the griddle ended up being heated. It's a good thing that all the meats were cooked when they came out, but it was still not satisfying eating them when they were room temperature / cold. I can't deny that the flavors on the skewers were good, but the griddle is kind of there for show. For the price, I definitely could have got more worth at an AYCE kbbq place in terms of both quantity and quality. read more

We have been coming back here often for the past 6 months or so. I think they had changed ownership because service had been improved a lot and we don't see the staffs we saw years ago. Food options are good, wish they still have the spicy frogs, and perhaps add the unsweetened ice tea option... but beer woks for now. Our favorites are their spicy noodles and duck blood, very tasty and perfectly cooked. Skewers - mostly on point but sometimes it can be too salty. The braised big bones were very tasty, we recommend using the sauce to eat with some rice/noodle. Bone marrows were grilled to perfection too, not overly burnt like the time we had years ago. I do order their crawfish sometimes if I crave for some crawfish, but they're not fresh so it could be hard to peel. If you come here when they're super busy, the staffs can be forgetful sometimes... but just give them a reminder if they forget to bring you things, they'll get that to you right away. Plenty of parking available near the restaurant. Didn't wait long to get a table on an early Friday evening, but the restaurant is pretty small and was completely packed. The ambiance was overwhelming because there was a big group of loud people celebrating something with a lot of alcohol. This caused our service to be lacking, having to ask multiple times for requests like water refills, napkins, and the check with boxes. Overall the food was okay. Nothing really stood out. The tornado potatoes didn't have any flavor or seasoning and didn't come with any condiments. They were also really oily and not crispy. Overall the place is not bad at all for a skewer place. Pretty authentic but there's somethings that kinda put me mark it down a bit. The skewer hot pot feels just like things that people don't get and put in to a pot. There was a HUGE amount of stomach and nothings wrong with stomach but for that we felt like we ate like 2 cow stomachs and just a little bit of like quail eggs and stuff. Tried here a while ago (when they just opened), and I remembered liking the skewers enough, but nothing stood out. My fiance was craving skewers and wanted somewhere that we haven't had recently, so I suggested to give Friendship Bbq another chance. Overall, I still thought the dishes were just okay. This time, the skewers were memorably too salty. Tendon is on the chewier side, so I would not recommend if you prefer them soft. The intestines were pretty good though. There wasn't much difference between the fried and the braised version except that the fried one was slightly crispier. Taste-wise, it was exactly the same. The veggies (string beans and oyster mushroom) were good. Unfortunately, they didn't have rice so we couldn't finish half of our dishes. We don't normally order rice with our skewers, but this time, we made some of order choices based on the assumption that we could have rice with it, but they didn't tell us that there was no rice until we asked where our rice was...the service definitely could've been improved given that we were the only customers dining in at the time we placed the order, not counting the kids who were playing at a different table. (The staffs were actually nowhere to be found when we first entered the store, and we just sat ourselves down.) We were there at normal dinner time so it wasn't that they didn't have time to prep rice, the most basic staple chinese food. They asked us if we wanted to wait for the rice, but we were already halfway done with the food, there's no point waiting another 20 minutes for the rice to be ready. There was a big party (friends on the owner apparently) that came in shortly after, but I don't think that would've made a difference in service since the servers didn't interact much with them either. However, now that I think about it, the staffs were probably prepping for the big group's order. The waitress also spilled a bit of the hot dish (it has broth) on us. She seems new at waitressing, but she could've at least offered to grab more napkin. It reminded me of when I was new at waitressing though, so it was understandable. Went there today at 9 pm to order take out food - dinner for one. 1. Menu is on a scan code. There were not printed menus to look at. Not one. This means if you don't have scanning apps on your phone, you don't see a menu. 2. The head waiter gave me a tablet with the menu on it in tiny print. I selected two items for take out. He went through some screens on the tablet, and presented me with a signature section which I signed. Then he gave me a print copy that I asked for. 3. The printed receipt had an extra charge of $4.61 for a $20 take out meal. In addition to tax. I had not added a tip so where did this come from? I asked the head waiter and he went into the kitchen and acted very evasive. He said I selected that from the screen. I had not done so. I told him that was illegal and needed to come off immediately. He refunded the charges for $4.61 on my bill. Adding a 23% tip to a take out meal! Unbelievable gall to do this! What a scam. 4. As of July 1, 2024, under California's SB 478 (often called the "hidden fee law"), automatic gratuities or mandatory service charges on takeout are illegal unless the percentage is included in the listed menu price. Restaurants must display the full price, meaning they cannot add a surprise, automatic service fee at the end. This restaurant is clearly in violation and adding hidden fees to bills, EVEN ON TAKE OUTS!! 5. The restaurant was cozy and busy. Lots of young people. A nice youthful vibe to it. Small room, but nicely arranged. Very noisy though. 6. The food is pricey for quality and quantity. I ordered a soup, mostly water for $13. No meat in it. I ordered lamb skewers for $5 for 3 but they were pencil thin and very overcooked hard as a rock, no taste. I make better food at home. The soup was unsubstantial and left me hungry. After spending $25 I had a watery meal and still feel ravenously hungry. Pathetic. 7. The fact they are scamming people with these tacked on tips violates CA laws.
