This one of our go-to places in this shopping center - after some grocery shopping at H-Mart and some pastries from Paris Baguette or Tous le Jours. We always go for the premium level AYCE which entitles you to the more exotic ingredients section and premium meat cuts like wagyu but if that's not your style, the standard AYCE menu is just as good. You really can't go wrong with hot pot since it's all based on your preferences. There's a ton of sauce choices, veggies, and seafood add-ins which makes every experience customized. The real distinguishing feature is their classic bone broth which is so savory and delicious you could just drink that and still be worth it! A must try in this area! read more

Ate here for the first time in about a year and it seems like it's going downhill. The meats were very fatty, except for the "garlic beef" which seemed like it had been brined (strange texture and chew). The best items were actually the stuff on the back buffet, the tofu and shrimp and especially the fried chicken legs. (Maybe rebrand as the Happy Chicken Leg?) Spicy broth was tasty but some guy kept coming by and "warming it up" without asking, using non-spicy broth... so that didn't last long. Not too big a deal, though, since another guy started rushing us to get out of there so they could turn the table... walking by with the credit card machine and staring at us, saying there was "no timer" but telling us exactly how long we had been there, etc. Lame, dude. So glad we finally came here with friends. I've always wanted to try happy lamb hot pot because I've heard good things online and from friends. We came here Friday night. I called in advanced but they told me before 7 pm we should not have to wait long for a table. When we got there it was right before 7 and we waited about 5 minutes to get seated. I would say 10 minutes after, this place is packed and there were lines outside of this place. We all got the house special, and so glad we did. There are so many meat options. We are very happy with the service, the food, the sauce. I do wish there is dessert besides cotton candy. The hot pot place near my house has better dessert and the meat is also buffet style. I like that better. That's why I'm giving the four stars. Overall, if we're in Edison and craving for hot pot, we would definitely be back! read more

Maybe a 3.5/5: Pros: Came by for dinner on a busy Friday around 6:30PM and was able to get seated immediately as a group of 7. We seemed to have missed the rush because by 7-8PM, every table was full and there was a wait to be seated. Service was friendly and no issues there. We got the tomato and original broths - both are pretty good. Cons: I personally was not a big fan of the buffet style due to covid - no one was wearing masks and everyone was reaching for the same food and utensils. I frequent an AYCE hot pot place in NYC as well but you order off tablets and they bring you each order which seems much more sanitary, with or without covid around. The selection at the buffet was also not as large as what I'm used to for an AYCE. Prices....seem kind of high for New Jersey? I love this hot pot restaurant. They have 3 different tiers of AYCE (all you can eat) that you can enjoy and on weekdays during lunch they have a lunch AYCE special. Weekend prices you can expect to spend ~$35 per person, we spent ~$100 for 3. It is well worth it. We did not get the premium all you can eat, just the house special. Meats you can skip on: marinated garlic beef and chicken tenderloin. They have a wide variety of things to eat in their buffet section that can help spice up your hot pot and their sauce selection is great. They also have an ice jelly section for a light dessert at the end of your meal. Overall, the service is great and the ambiance is nice. I will be back. While I've been to this location when it was previously under another name and management (& not AYCE), Happy Lamb Hot Pot is an AYCE hot pot restaurant that has buffet-style service. There is a two-tier pricing, with "higher quality" meats being more expensive. After being seated, you order the broth and the meats from the server. All the other accompanying vegetables, noodles, fish balls, tofu, etc. are self-serve at the buffet area in the back of the restaurant. The sauces are located off the side on its own island. The items at the buffet are very fresh and good quality. There is a nice variety of hot pot ingredients. Meat quality is also very good, with meats being brought out promptly. The broth here is very flavorful and a bit on the saltier side, but that's good for people who use minimal sauces. The sauce bar here is extensive, but during busy times can run low and be a bit messy. The meat here is definitely great quality and cooks quickly. There is a small selection of cooked foods (fries, onion rings, dumplings, spring rolls) and a large selection of vegetables, which I love. Ambience: The have several large tables with community pots built in. They practice social distancing by including empty tables between customers. One unfortunate casualty of social distancing...no sauce station!!! How do you do hot pot without a sauce station? Am I suppose to eat boiled and bland food? After we were midway through our meal, we learned that you are suppose to fill out a piece of paper indicating the sauces you want FOR YOUR TABLE...no individualization. Food: They had a large variety to choose from. We ordered several beef and lamb dishes, seafood and veggies. All the food seemed fresh. The broths were served half and half...mild and spicy. Service: There were only 2 guys working the entire restaurant. I tip my hat to these two hard working guys, but they really need to get some extra help. We walked in and were seated and were seated in less than 2 mins, despite the place being super crowded. They brought the "hot pot" (we asked for half milk and half spicy) to our table and helped us with picking out meat, seafood, veggies & appetizers. We assumed the the appetizers would be served on a plate pre-cooked, but it came just like the meat and seafood - it needed to be cooked in the hot pot. Not what my friends & I were expecting but loved the idea. We were able 5 people. We got some lamb, fish, shrimp, wontons and 2-3 veggies. Was more than enough for us. I'd say the hot-pot-soup was truly my favorite part. Sooooo flavorful and they keep refilling it when they notice it needs to be. For drinks, we all got the Rock sugar + Pear Drink and it was great. Additionally, the meat quality here is quite good considering it's a AYCE restaurant. The sauce bar is included in the price as well, though during busy days they do run out of bowls/plates occasionally, which is slightly inconvenient. Taking off one star due to the wait times and inconsistent service. On weekends, the wait time can be as long as 1-1.5 hr and you can't join the queue online (have to go in person to put your name down on the iPad to start waiting in the queue). And the service is a hit or miss when they are busy - all the staffs are very friendly but it can get quite difficult to get their attention sometimes. read more

My friend and I got the VIP package, which consisted a more variety of vegetable choices and better meat choices. It is totally worth the money because we didn't get full until after 12 plates of meat. The vegetables are buffet style, you can grab however many you want, but the ones in the cases are for only VIP people. They know that you are VIP with your green bracelet. The broths were amazing, and they have the sauce bar to make your own sauce. The only disappointment is that they don't have quail eggs, and they don't have enoki mushrooms at the vegetable bar. Also, there is an unlimited dessert option, but we paid the bill before knowing that. The waiter was helpful and who I think may be the manager came by and realized it was our first time- he explained everything so kindly and with alot of detail. We were so grateful . The food was excellent! The broth was so delicious on its own, both the original and the spicy. The garlic marinated beef was my favorite meat. All the veggies were crisp and fresh. There was a wide array of things to add in. The decor was really pretty too with huge bouquets of flowers hanging from the ceiling. Just an all around awesome experience! The meat selection menu is smaller than the Houston location which I can understand that each location caters to the business needs of the area. I like the menu particular for 55+ pricing. We have the original broth out of the five choices. We were satisfied with that one meat. Then we explored the seafood, vegetables, noodles....bar. We were amazed. There is hot food available also.The sauce bar is great. There are hot sweet red beans dessert, cotton candy and peeled sweeties. It was a culinary experience in 90+ minutes. The restaurant underwent a renovation recently, they are open as of Nov 1, 2021. The service is great, only exception is that the servers might be new so they're still getting a feel for it but they are very friendly and helpful. We went in the first week they re-opened. They had a better selection of meat before, that was included in the lunch menu for a lesser price. That's the reason for 1 star off. Otherwise, the veggie, noodle, fishball buffet has a great variety. Others in our party were more than satisfied with just the buffet bar (without ordering additional meat) I believe the sauce bar is included in the price. Recommended: half and half original spicy and non spicy broth. Sauce: 3 sesame paste, 2 cilantro, 1 garlic, 1 shacha, 1 soy sauce and 2 chili oil Seems like they're still rolling out new items in the future, so we're looking forward to coming again. Happy Lamb has been revamped into an AYCE and I'm mourning the loss...sort of. The Good: The buffet choices and of meat balls, seafood, tofu iterations, veggies and noodles is outstanding and there's an added bonus hot food buffet bar with fried dough sticks, fried puffed tofu, veggie spring rolls and fried rice (who eats rice at an AYCE?). There's picked veggies at the sauce bar now: yum! There's a decent sauce bar. The Bad: It's definitely more expensive than it used to be. My son doesn't eat anything on the main buffet bar so that was wasted on him. There are only 4 meat choices, 8 with VIP but the VIP selection wasn't available at all. We tried the beef short plate and the Korabuta pork which were both good. The garlic beef not so much: very very garlicky and flavored your soup excessively, making everything cooked after that a bit garlicky too. The soup is the part I'm mourning. The original Happy Lamb had the best flavored soup bases around town. These are watered down versions of those. The mild had no flavor and the spicy wasn't at all spicy. That was a big let down. The upside is you can add more heat from the sauce bar. The UGLY: There's hand sanitizer and gloves but not at both ends of the buffet so by the time you see them, most people have already handle all the serving tongs!! It was rather off putting in these crazy times. And the tongs at the sauce bar have no designated home so they tend to be put right into the scallions and cilantro and then people are touching the food to get the tongs out! With their bare hands! Yuck! And they don't require you to wear a mask at the buffet. Most diners did, but some did not. read more
