As pleasant as the drink was, I will never return to this establishment due to the humiliating first experience I just had. I came in with two children I'm babysitting. While pulling multiple bills out of my purse, I asked if they only took cards to which she confirmed. I inserted my card and woah-it said I had a remaining balance. I was clearly puzzled as to why this was happening and immediately pulled my phone out to see if I received any notifications. My app would not load because I didn't have service inside the building. More people came in and I did not want to hold their line up so I said very clearly I didn't know what was going on but I'm not getting service right now and asked for one moment. After stepping aside another employee approached the two VERY young children and told them something I couldn't hear. I directly asked her what she just said to them and she responded by asking me if they were with me (they're white and I'm not), then said she was telling them my payment didn't go through. This was an interesting question because there were very few customers in the store when we walked in and we were the only ones at the register just moments ago. As I'm still on my phone, telling this new employee I just explained the situation to whoever was at the register, I hear her explaining to everyone in line that they can't take any orders because they're still waiting for me to pay. Money was never the problem, and it's unfortunate the things I intentionally wear when coming to U village, to avoid being judged by businesses like this, couldn't assure you that. I have never in my life been treated this way and I'll be sure to warn other people who look like me to take their business elsewhere. read more

There's a matcha latte with strawberry and I just requested no strawberry. She said the drink was not possible to make.... but I've had it before and felt she just didn't want to make the drink. I don't understand why I couldn't have had the drink. I didn't want a discount and I would even pay for boba if it was portion they were concerned about. This is also the loudest Happy Lemon I've ever been to, and dirtiest. The chairs were scattered on the left side toward the register with dirty tables. It felt like when you go to a public restroom and are unsure which dirty stall you'll settle with. Nobody could hear the cashier over the music in there, had to constantly lean over the register and ask for her to repeat. Just realized that the hours listed are till 9:30, there is no reason why the staff needed to put the chairs upside down on the tables like they were closing. They weren't closing, and we left because we thought we were being rude just by coming in late. On the way out, the rug caught on the door because it was misplaced. We had to close the door and physically move the large rug to exit. As someone who has been to all the Happy Lemon locations, I would just recommend a different location entirely. read more

When Happy Lemon first opened, it was the only good bubble tea place in SLU. Definitely a much welcomed addition to the neighborhood, and I'm a little sad I moved away (though I'm sure my wallet is better off). Their drinks can get pretty expensive and often run $7 or so for one drink after everything is included. I do wish there were more sizes offered besides large, which honestly is huge and usually lasts me two days. The bubble waffles are quite tasty, and I do recommend the salted cream dip! read more
