Harbor House is located off of 7th St & Francisco St in DTLA. There's an underground parking garage, but since it's downtown expect downtown prices. Harbor House is technically two spaces - there's a coffee bar inside the lobby with some tables if you want to take a load off, and there's a bar/patio outside which has lounge chairs/sofas. I've been to both and they're pretty nice. The coffee bar is open weekdays from 8AM - 2PM (Fridays they close at 1PM). They serve your standard coffeehouse fare (coffee/tea) and small bites like pastries, sandwiches, salads, and chips. Of course depending on what time you go, they might run out of the sandwiches if you're hoping to grab something for lunch so the early bird gets the worm! The bar/patio has happy hour Tuesdays - Fridays from 5PM - 7PM. Whatever your poison is (cocktails, beer, wine), they got it. The outdoor patio is spacious but has little shade so it can be a bit brutal during heatwaves, but the views of DTLA at night are dependably great. You can book parties/events for any scenic scenario. They apparently also have Karaoke Night every Tuesday and Comedy Night every Thursday. The coffees and drinks have strong pours so either will put a pep in your step. The sandwiches and salads are from vendors but are still perfectly decent if you want a quick bite for lunch. We held our first R&B Yoga class over the weekend here and had an absolute blast! The venue is very well-kept, spacious, and overall extremely inviting. As the photographer for R&B Yoga I made sure to capture many, many views of this place and all the beauty it has to offer. The bar has that indoor / outdoor feel to it so it felt so good to soak up a little sun while sipping my mimosa after. Street parking seems to be the only option around here. I visited this restaurant during lunch this Dine La event in 2020. I left work early hoping to enjoy a $15 lunch with three small courses. I ordered the French onion soup, bbq flatbread and a red ale. The music was great the view in the middle of the business center was easy on the eyes. I just stared out the door while sipping my beer imaging how crazy their summer rush is... Luckily, i was assisted by a fantastic host, Monique. Her energy was positive, approachable and she gave me what I asked for, a good beer! There was a huge table of nearby business men and women on lunch break laughing and getting the salmon! Dine LA! I love to take advantage of the DineLA week to check our all the restaurants that I haven't been to. This restaurant is located inside the 1000 Wilshire building, you'll need to pass the harbor cafe and walk all the way to the end of the building for the restaurant section. It's outdoor area, very nice area for half hour! So for $15, you'll get an appetizer and an entree. My choice: crab cake and braised short rib. The crab was good a bit salty but offset well with the little Veggies came with it. The braised short rib however was a bit too heavy for me. Overall, for $15 this is a good deal! Came here for a Labor Day party, and things did not go as expected. The event started at 3, and a friend and I arrived at 4. Upon entering, there were no issues with our IDs, and our RSVPs were checked, as well as a bag check and quick pat down. 2 hours in, my friend got cold, so we decided to leave to grab her jacket for her car. No one said anything while leaving. When we got back, the female security immediately accused us of leaving the event to drink outside. And told us there were no ins and outs. That's totally fine, but that's something that needs to be said while people are heading out, so there's no confusion. She continued to claim we were out drinking, but allowed us back in. We gave her the benefit of the doubt for the extreme attitude being given to us, as we can understand it must not be fun to have to work on a holiday. Another hour goes by, and at this point, we've been here for a total of three hours. We passed security since the restrooms were past them, and while walking, we were kicked out. We were told by the same woman at security that we had to cover up (we were both wearing shorts and tanks and nothing extreme or revealing). She told us we were being watched on the security cameras, and the owner didn't want us there. Mind you, no dress code was listed at any point. Several other POC girls are kicked out as well. Yet the security in front of us happily let in several white women wearing the same or more revealing outfits with no issues. I came for DineLA and to take my assistant out to a well-deserved dinner out. This place is all the outdoor dining. I didn't get that from the DineLA description and the brief Yelp reviews I perused. But yes, it's all outside. It's in a big office building and you can park in the garage ($7 after 6) or street parking, which I lucked out on finding. They appear to be a bit under-staffed. We had a gentleman take our order but took a long time to get drinks and finally a young lady appeared to help. But she was being "directed" constantly by the manager. Including in front of her tables. We felt bad for her. She was doing a really good job. But she was constantly being... let's just say... "re-directed". When she approached a table her manager seemed to intervene. I understand that I'm a bit of a knee-jerk on the feminism issues but my assistant isn't. And we both felt uncomfortable with this. The food was just OK. We did the DineLa menu and we both started with the crab cakes... not outstanding and I had a piece of shell in mine. But OK. For mains we went with the gnocchi (her) and the scallops and risotto (me). I thought her gnocchi was beautiful but she thought it was way too doughy. She sent it back. Ordered the roasted chicken. My scallops were fine but the risotto was just really sticky rice - not risotto. Still not bad. They were out of the bread pudding option for dessert so we had to do the chocolate dessert. So for $15, my classmate ordered the lemongrass beef salad and the pan roasted salmon and I ordered the crab cakes and all natural flat iron. Pan Roasted Salmon. Salsify, summer squash and corn succotash, sugar snap peas, espellette, red chili, conserva, tumeric garlic cream. The salmon was a popular order from many guests, according to our waiter. It was very tender and moist. The turmeric garlic cream sauce was what made the dish! It was delicious with a spicy kick! All Natural Flat Iron. Garlic soy marinated steak, watercress, slow roasted tomato, charred petit onions, buttered rice, citrus chili garlic sauce. I was disappointed in the flat iron steak. I thought it would be in one huge piece instead of in smaller pieces on top of rice. Reminds me of a typical Asian dish. The chili garlic sauce that came with the dish (which I poured over the rice) reminds me of a Vietnamese dish.. Pros: -very friendly and hip service -majority of the restaurant is the outdoor patio. At night there are lights strung and the ambience is completely different! -nice bar area -located on a very visible corner. Ive heard from others that the same dish when you eat in comes with a side so thats weird. First off, the name, Harbor House must've been pulled out of someone's arse, because it's neither no where near a harbor and not a house. It is actually, in a corporate bank building and is located directly east of the 110 freeway. The very cool thing about HH is that it offers not only indoor seating, but is dominated by a huge amount of tables under umbrellas on a patio that overlooks parts of DTLA. Not only do they offer patio seating, but super comfy couches are available. This makes a great place to relax and unwind. However, because the couches don't necessarily go with that tables, eating can be a challenge. The couches are more for drinking and relaxing. TVs are located inside. And there are lights outside. I'm not sure if there is any music on the patio. I really hope there is. The food we ordered, burgers, chicken kale salad, chips and guacamole just to name a few were good. Service was also good. I had read some negative reviews on Yelp so I was a little concerned, but we had an amazing visit with good food and great service. We did not make a reservation but stopped by at 5:30 on a Wednesday, so they were able to seat us right away. We ordered the prix fixe through dineLA, which comes with an appetizer, entree, and dessert. I ordered the foie gras toast, seared swordfish with tatsoi, potatoes, and shiitake, and the bread pudding. They were all delicious. The appetizer and the dessert were on the smaller side, but all together it was a filling meal and quite tasty! The servers were also very attentive and welcoming and brought our food promptly to us. I stopped by Harbor House last Friday to meet a friend for happy hour. HH is on a terrace overlooking 7th Street. Reservations are welcome but I just walked in and was seated immediately. They have good happy hour deals on beer, wine, cocktails and bites. I had seen their Instagram so I was already eyeing their "1000 burger" and on happy hour, you get the burger, fries, side salad and a beer for $15! Such a great deal! The burger patty was thick, covered with melted cheddar cheese and their special sauce. It was good. We came for Dine LA 2019 and were pleasantly surprised after having read the reviews for Dine LA 2018! They must've listened because we had a pretty good experience! Harbor House is a restaurant located at the bottom patio of a corporate building. We were seated by Joey, a friendly host and got a choice of table with more or less sun. We came around 5:45pm so there were lots of workers leaving the building and passing through the restaurant throughout our time at Harbor House. There was a birthday celebration going on at the bar and there was a DJ. Not sure if the DJ is a normal thing on Friday nights, but we loved the tunes and it really elevated our dinner! The glasses are left on the table and I think they would really benefit by placing them upside down on napkins rather than cup up to collect dust or particles in the air. We got the beef sashimi and the lobster bisque. The toast was forgotten but we did get it after an inquiry. The bisque was okay. Seafoody tomatoey but it would've been really good with chunks of lobster. The beef sashimi had more sour and vinegar notes rather than soy sauce but I enjoyed that. For our entrees we got the scallops with risotto and the halibut. The scallops were seared nicely and had a tad bit more salt than I expected. Paired with the risotto, it was fine. The peas were undercooked but it added a nice crunch. I got tired of the risotto quickly, but the scallops were the highlight. My favorite dish overall was the halibut. It was perfectly cooked and I think the dish worked much more holistically with the roasted vegetables, gratin, garlic, and sauce. Definitely get this dish! We tried both of their desserts. They make them in house. The cheesecake has a nice caramel (?) layer between the bottom and the cream that made this the favored dessert. The tiramisu was just okay in our eyes. This was not my first time here but this is definitely the worst. I have gotten the same order everything time, the Nashville Hot Fried Chicken ($13). I came with a couple of coworkers today and it looked like they split 2 normal sized chicken patties between all of us. Not sure if you could see it in the picture but they definitely cut the chicken patty after frying it. Every time besides this lunch, Harbor House has been bearable (pricey but somewhat filling). But this time I just need to get a second lunch. If you're looking for chicken sandwiches, chick fil a is just down the street. Save yourself some money and go somewhere else. Wow! Came across this restaurant scrolling through DineLA's options- super happy I did. Upon walking in we were greeted by a gentleman who was very personable. Our server was great as well- I always ask for recommendations and she was great. We stuck to the DineLA menu and everything was super tasty. My boyfriend and I both got the seared beef sashimi, and my friend got the dates for our appetizers. The seared beef was delicious. My friend is a sucker for dates and she really enjoyed them. Next, we had the short ribs and 8oz steak. The spare ribs melted in our mouthes. My boyfriend had the steak. It was delish! I mean, you can't go wrong with yummy butter on top, right?! Lastly, we had our dessert. The boyfriend and I both had the cheesecake and my friend had the tiramisu. We weren't disappointed! I decided to try because of their appetizing DineLA lunch menu! It was the best lunch I've had in a long time. I don't usually write reviews but the food, service and automosphere was absolutely superb. I started with the jalapeño hush puppies. The texture was perfect and the sauce was a perfect blend of creamy and spicy. Then, I had the jambalaya. Heavenly. It was so much food for lunch but I couldn't help myself. It had a great range of different meats. It came with corn bread that you can soak in the bowl. Easily the my favorite course. Lastly, they gave you a fried Twinkie for dessert. I was afraid at first but it was so good. I couldn't eat it all, which I felt bad. But it was a perfect couple bites of sweet to end the meal right. Betting my money that this restaurant will be THE place for summer!!!! Outstanding patio area that overlooks the 110 freeway with great views of downtown buildings, and relatively close to FIGat7th. Beautiful table setting as well as couch lounge areas for bigger parties, potted trees extended throughout the court yard, open window bar, wooden tables with colorful chairs, and string lights distributed through the restaurant. I know, magical forest in downtown LA?! I absolutely fell in love with the interior and concept, especially the vibes and views I was getting. The biggest downfall is the parking and location since it's located in downtown, it might be difficult to find meter parking. They have valet parking on Francisco St but I'm not sure if it costs an arm and leg (I took Uber). Restaurant is located inside the Wedbush building and because it's an established business building, they're only open on business days Monday-Friday and not on the weekends. I'm emphasizing "business" because on their Yelp page it states they're open for dinner on the weekends but they're not, I tried and they were closed. As far as food, it's not the greatest. I noticed most of the dishes we ordered were too salty, our drinks tasted different every time even though we were ordering the same drink, and waitress service was mediocre. BUT, for the ambiance I'm coming again. I don't curr. Oh FYI it's not the cheapest place to grab drinks and food, for 2 people the bill was close to $100. Wow. I was really excited to try this place for DineLA and made reservations in advanced for 4 at 8pm for dinner. When we arrived the bartender told the host would be right with us. There was no host stand, and he breezed by to say he was extremely busy and would come back in 5 minutes despite a relatively empty restaurant (there were about 5 seated tables). We eventually were seated & told they did not have any heat lamps available, except they were sitting blatantly in view - just pushed off to the side. It was a chilly LA night, and the host dropped off menus and promised to bring blankets. We waited for about 20 minutes without anyone bringing water or blankets as other employees were clearing empty tables. Thirty minutes after our reservation, we had no water, no blankets, and pretty much no service. I've never been so disappointed by a dining experience in LA. It was so bad we decided to ditch the reservation and Ubered to another restaurant to eat. Despite the fact that we already parked underneath the building, but they do not validate so we paid for parking & didn't even get so much as a drink. On the plus side, they've got a gorgeous patio ambiance with a fire pit. Maybe come for happy hour, but once the sun goes down - they're not lighting any available heat lamps for you. read more

We're tried out harbor house for the DineLA 2019 restaurant week. The restaurant had a large sign on the first floor that lead up to the building entrance. I was confused as the restaurant's entrance is also the office building entrance. And there was no sign at the door. We entered thru outdoor seating and bar/ building entrance. There wasn't anyone greeting us during lunch hour, I guess they are short staffed. As for the food, it was good value for the dineLA menu. The crab cake was a bit too salty for my taste, though they were delicious, nice and crunchy. For the entree, my husband had the Asian flared flair ahi tuna, cooked perfectly, well seasoned, however his vegetable were uninspiring and sadly, over cooked. I had the braised short rib, nice portion, tender and fall off the bone. Roasted root vegetable were delish. The only downside is the rib has very little flavor, not well marinaded at all. I had to ask 3 times for extra gravy as that's what flavor the rib. Without the gravy, the rib was bland. My food has gotten cold until the small amt of gravy arrived. The plates can use some updates. One of two appetizer plate was chipped, I figured it's no big deal. But then one of 2 entree plate has a bigger chip then the appetizer plate. We also have to ask for knife utensil besides the 1 given fork at the table. Upon the bill, I noticed a $1.50 extra charge for the gravy that I had to flag down 3 times. Needless to say, they didn't disclose the extra charge. Service was so so, waiter came by once to fill one of 2 glasses of water and ignore my glass. Overall, the food is delish. Service can be improved. Attention & quality control of diningware should be aware (good thing we didn't cut ourselves with the chipped plates.) And the heads up of the hidden extra charges would be nice. Apparently, they charge for any additional condiments includes dressing, sauces... accordingly to them, it's the cost of business. Seriously, how much sauce can you possibly eat? I would really give it 3.75 stars on the overall experience. It's not much of a restaurant, more like an upscale cafe. My friends and I tried Harbor House because of DineLA. We were greeted at first by Joey, who was incredibly welcoming! Our server was attentive. Their menu options are excellent! I had the dates (fabulous!) and my friends had the seared beef sashimi (also fabulous!). For the main course, I would definitely recommend the short ribs. They were seasoned beautifully and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The steak was also delish, with an herb butter melting on top of it. Throughout the meal, the server checked in on us a few times, but Joey went above-and-beyond to make sure our meal met our expectations. He brought out blankets when the evening air became cooler as the sun set. He chatted with us, but not so much as to make us uncomfortable. All in all, I would definitely recommend Harbor House! I loved the outdoor seating and the Happy Hour! I got two drinks and two servings chips and guac, spent $25 plus $5 tip. Regular prices seemed extremely reasonable for such an excellent location. If I worked nearby or were out showing someone around DTLA, I would definitely end the day at this place. On a sunny day the sun cuts brightly around the surrounding buildings, warming the place up a lot which is one of the things I notice most in downtown. There were large comfy sofas around, a family and a couple with a blanket. Bit windy in the evening so might recommend bringing a coat. I can imagine this place gets packed at night and on the weekends. Short staffed when I was there and it was not busy. Secluded, quiet ambiance during Happy Hour, probably the most risk-free time to visit. Also nice if you want to sit for a while. Idk about food based on other reviews, but for drinks there were no complaints, great service and nice view over the street below. Not a busy corner, so there's little road noise or people watching, but it does let you take in the city. Doesn't strike me as a gourmet food place, but a burger might be great here. I couldn't believe my ears?! I told her, "No, our order went in 45 mins ago, and we received nothing. We are on a lunch break and we need to leave. You have 5 minutes to bring everything out!" The pros: Beautiful location, great clean place, and creative menu (some hits and misses but each appetizer had something unique and craving worthy) The cons: RUDE BARTENDER AND MANAGER. Couple servers went out of their way to help us (heater placement, allowing our party access to the entire patio etc). Let me explain the rudeness and you can decide. Stood at the bar for 3 minutes with 2 bartenders and 1 customer (I was the second customer) ZERO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. Rude? Yes Finally I spoke up and asked about his scotch selection. He pointed and mumbled the brands. Asked him about them and he didn't know anything about them. RUDE? maybe... unknowledgable - YES. Asked about the wines... again with the mumbling... didn't know anything about them either. Rude? Naw... unknowledgable YES. Now to the manager....he was flirting with a girl that was trashed. She almost knocked over my glass. I kindly mentioned "oh I got it... almost knocked it off"....she gave me the StankEye and the manager said, "oh we'll get you a new one." Very kind but that was my personal glass (I just won at a company raffle) and he could NOT get me a new one. Perhaps he could stop flirting with her and get her an Uber/Lyft and be professional. RUDE? a little....Unprofessional - YES. My personal 2 cents...The manager and bartender were treating this like their personal hang out spot and were taking care of us at their convenience. Letting us know, we were interrupting them. This is a great venue and I hope they pull it together. I'd love to have a hidden gem in DTLA before the ClusterFuk (we call LA) overrun this place. read more

Two stars is being generous for the atmosphere and the service that was provided for us on a Friday night at 7:45 PM. If you are looking for a place where drunk middle aged adults are able to dance, scream, and make a fool of themselves, then Harbor House is a dream! If you are trying to get seated for their restaurant, it is very difficult to get a table because there was no one to greet us. There was a DJ blasting music to the point where I could hear the music from my car, parked in the Fig&7th parking structure. Finally after walking around and probably looking like lost tourists, a gentleman approached us and sat us at a table outside. At this time there were many people at the bar (not eating food), one three top and one two top who were both finishing up their meals. It seemed like the restaurant was very understaffed with only one bartender, two servers, and one manager. Due to this, everyone seemed to be frazzled and running around like crazy. We ordered our appetizers (lobster bisque and beef sashimi), which were probably the best plates of the night. Since it is a rooftop, we got a little cold and asked our server (Taylor) if we could possibly move inside. After being informed that we could, we brought our waters inside and approached the bar, waiting to be seated. A gentleman was standing at the bar socializing with a group of people drinking and after about 5 minutes standing around, I asked if he worked at the restaurant. He said that he did and then proceeded to continue his conversation. Come to find out that this man was the chef (Ken). Another server (Tom) was pleasant enough to seat us at a booth away from the bar, where Ken was too into mingling to notice us. We then ordered our entrees (NY strip and scallop risotto), which both were far below our standards. The scallop risotto was surrounded by 700 peas and a bajillion leeks over a lukewarm sticky rice, instead of a risotto. The steak looked as if it was a piece of meat that a diner would serve. Whatever was supposed to be under the steak looked like a mix of mashed potatoes and polenta swimming in a pool of grease and butter (the bad kind, not the good kind). During our meal, we were greeted by flies flying around us constatnlty and a little spider falling from the ceiling. Who doesn't love bugs and insects while you dine?! The dessert portions were nonexistent. The only description that comes to mind is the saying from Zoolander, "What is this? A dessert for ants?!" The jelly provided for the cheesecake is the Smuckers strawberry jam you probably put on your toast for breakfast. Overall, I am just glad I was able to experience this below average meal during DineLA and not when I would have to pay full price. I came here recently for DineLA week, and had the best time! First and foremost, their service is impeccable and incredibly attentive. I really wish I remembered the manager's name - he was genuinely friendly, accommodating and an excellent conversationalist! For appetizers, my date and I had the duck confit toast (YUM!). As for the main dish, my date ordered the gnocchi while I had the steak. Both pleased our eyes and tummies. Did I mention their Happy Hour is also great? I'm a sucker for a good Cabernet, though I can't recall which one I had. I'll head back and refresh my memory. read more

Tucked inside 1000 Wilshire, a spacious eating situation. Large outdoor patio good for having a drink and hanging out. Solid average food, smaller portions. Full bar. It's a good meetup spot. read more

I went with a large group of coworkers for dineLA. We had placed a reservation through Opentable but the poor waiter working lunch seemed to have no idea we were coming & had to put tables together to accommodate our party. AND move umbrellas. So kudos for him for doing that, although it took a bit for us to get our food. Beer selection is good with local options. Food was okay. The lemongrass beef salad is bland and had little flavor for something that should have punchy acid hitting you right in the mouth. The beef strips were overcooked and tough, besides tiny. The salmon was a lot better. It was cooked well & the succotash wasn't overdone either; no mush veggies, just enough bite. There was a bit of heat in the sauce too which was nice. For $15, I'm not pressed but it could have been MUCH better. read more
