This review is long over due, I came in here with some friends for playoff football !! On top of the football there was also some karaoke going on, it was popping to say the least !! Despite the place being pretty busy, Service from the security to the bar tenders was very accommodating, and service was damn efficient !! On top of that I got some food on a whim, I had the chicken club that exceeded all expectations !! All round it was a very successful outing, will definitely be coming back !! Came on a Sunday night. Parking was extremely difficult to find. The vibe was friendly and welcoming. Karaoke was going on and there were a descent about of people inside. There were table inside and outside. Got the Negroni for $16, Paper Plane for $16, and Old Fashioned. The Negroni was too sweet, but tolerable. The Paper Plane was delicious. The Old Fashioned was absolutely terrible. Don't remember how much the Old Fashioned was, but I believe it was $15. read more

This place gets crowded on weekends so prepare accordingly. Parking can be tricky so you might need to go to a structure and walk to it. Staff is nice and they have karaoke that fills up quickly so expect a wait. Vibe is pretty fun and energetic. Drinks are pricey but strong. read more

My friends and I had dinner nearby and my husband found this place on Yelp. When we stopped by it was still early in the evening so there were only 2 customers when we stopped by. We ordered a few drinks at the bar and a basket of fries. We asked to sit at the reserved table and since no one was there, the bartender let us. We had a great time drinking and catching up. A great little bar where everybody knows your name. One of the gems of Los Angeles, this is one of those friendly bars where everyone is super chill and there's no pretension. The food is amazing tbh. Surprisingly good. The fried are crispy and crunchy with a hint of rosemary. The karaoke is fun and laid back. The people are warm. The bathrooms could use a little updating but work...sometimes. Parking can be an issue. Wish they had something worked out with a parking lot where you can park for a couple bucks. This place was great. The bartender Andrew was very friendly and didn't mind chatting at all. He told us the sign outside says the place used to be a movie theater a long time ago. Inside is something out of a Robert Louis Stevenson novel. It almost feels like you stepped into an episode of dark shadows. Very cool. The cheese fries were good too. My partner and I LOVE R Bar. I've been here more times than I can count. I usually order the Veggie Flatbread which is always a winner. It's a little spicy and topped with cooked veggies. The perfect bar to wind-down. Nestled in the heart of K-town, R bar is definitely a go to. Though Uber is highly recommended, unless you live in the area, you may try your luck searching for parking. Monday's is HH all day! Was tended by a friendly bartender, and Monday night crowd was chill. This is a perfect place for a first date, date night or just a night out with friends. I tried R Bar earlier this year with a friend, and I could see the appeal: a casual spot with a dive bar vibe (and bonus: they offer a trivia night if that's your thing). We met there during an early evening, and it was not very busy. There was ample seating including booths, and ordering was very easy. Though this place is not swanky, cocktail prices are about what you expect in the Los Angeles area and are cheaper than what you would find in a more upscale bar. They also offer a food menu, and I though the onion rings were not overly breaded and had a good crispy texture. I thought R Bar was a great spot to catch up with a friend in a chill environment, and I could see myself going back to try their trivia night in the future. read more

I come here once or twice a month for food, drinks and ambience. My family likes it. My colleagues like it. My friends dig it. It has an old 1800s pirate feel. Karaoke- brass monkey used to be THE place to go for karaoke! I still love that place! But now my family and friends prefer R bar karaoke because it isn't nearly as crowded! You actually get your chance to sing! The k host never demands a tip to have your turn at rocking out to your favorite tune! The patrons are friendly and supportive. Not everyone is there to sing. Folks are chilling, eating, socializing. And applauding or singing along with you. Food- my coworkers appreciate the mix of vegetarian options along with everything else on the menu. It's a bar. The menu isn't big. But it's impressive for a bar. The food is much better than other bars. Veggie and chicken quesadillas. Pulled pork sandwich. Chicken bacon club. Rosemary fries. Juicy onion rings. And I've come back twice for the tasty chicken bacon salad! Yeah. A delicious, filling salad. At a bar. Nearly epic! I can't explain enough how Terrible this awful staff treated us. I was in a coma for seven months and came in a wheelchair and walker over the years. Recently I WALKED from my home and after a delicious meal at Taylor's suggested we walk down as I was feeling great about all I accomplished. The shaved haired man has a weird vendetta against my husband and when I tried to take up for him , screamed at me using profanity. No one was in there and he loved refusing us service. He could provide no reason why as he said he can't remember why he refused everyone service. Apparently there are quite a lot. My husband had met one of the owners while I was hospitalized and spoke quite highly of her. Before coming out this guy conferenced with the doorman as if deciding a story. One of the weirdest experiences of my life. Hardly what I expected in such a great night. Just continued on to one of our normal spots in the neighborhood. read more

Wow, accidentally found one of my new favorite bars last night. Came with a friend and split a pitcher of cider. Good prices and lasted us a while. We did not expect it to be karaoke night but it was a very nice surprise. Grabbed a seat on the earlier side and stayed for a while watching people. Everybody was very welcoming and supportive of the people singing. Even the bartenders were able to grab the mic for a moment which I loved to see. Cute business but unfortunately rude staff. I went to go order some food after a long day. This was also around 8PM so I thought they would at least take food orders. Nigel, the bartender, checked for ID but unfortunately I left it at home. I had a picture of my ID I was willing to show, but he said he would not accept it. I have used a picture before to get in bars but just order food. Instead of hearing me out, he immediately refused service and even said "I look 22 tops" which was extremely unnecessary and uncalled for. What type of place doesn't allow their customers to eat? And then leaves backhanded rude comments to them? I understand that I didn't have my ID but instead of just helping a customer Nigel treated me with such condescending rudeness and unempathy. Still solid. Glad they don't use passwords anymore. That seemed quirky before, dated now. R Bar's unique layout and ambience is what makes this bar great. I wish the music wasn't so loud, but if you go into the booth seating, the music isn't as loud. Only negative experience is that the bartenders are limited to the cocktails on their menu and very basic drinks. They don't appear to have the skill or knowledge to make popular, but more complex cocktails that are not on their menu. I'm not sure if the management has rules against cocktails that are not on the menu or if the bartenders are simply not skilled enough, but that took a star off for me. read more

Came in for karaoke brunch on Saturday at 2pm. I messaged them through fb and it was super easy to reserve a table for my group of 10. I came here last year for a friend's birthday and loved the chill atmosphere, mixed crowd of many regulars. People who like to enjoy a relaxed weekend afternoon with a drink or two and sing a bit. Downside is the food is pretty meh. I had the hot wings which were fried wings tossed in hot sauce. Seems they don't add butter like traditional buffalo wings. They were oddly bland to me. My other friends got the spicy hangover soup which was also bland. It's a pan asian tomato based soup with ginger and garlic and ramen noodles. They also didn't have anything sweet on the menu.
