GO HERE! It was an amazing breakfast that thoroughly satisfied even the fussy members of our group. Homemade, high quality meal really hit the spot after being gouged at terrible restaurants in nearby Mackinaw City. Not only was the food fantastic (especially the biscuits and gravy, sausage, and choc chip pancakes) but the view of the lake in the back room made for a relaxing Up North ambience. It is a nice local restaurant with a nice view of the lake. The staff is friendly and the food was good. There was nothing over the top amazing but it felt very much like a hometown place. The highlight was the desserts. The group partook of peach pie, rhubarb pie and chocolate cake. All was absolutely wonderful. If you don't have time for dinner I very much suggest stopping in for a bite of dessert. In addition to the treats I listed, there is an ice cream parlor with a great selection and the best strawberry shakes. Not a critics, simple a piece of information...they do not serve alcohol. I have to say my expectations were low in this sleepy town. But WOW what a wonderful surprise! I got the day's special, Chicken Pot Pie. Not only was it HUGE (I ate it for 2 days). It was insanely delicious. My fella got the Chicken Alfredo. There was one waitress busting her humor for the busy place and she was prompt and courteous. We got a slice of pecan cake to go...I'm not much of a sweets fan...but if I could eat this everyday of my life I would! They have an Incredibly talented baker in the house. What a great little place. We visited about two weeks ago and there aren't a ton of places open around here this time of year. This restaurant was within walking distance of our cabin so we gave it a try. We had breakfast there both mornings and wild have gone for a third but they were closed. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. Biscuits and gravy were very good. The pasty was excellent. And those cinnamon rolls and pie...wow! Love this place. Not far outside of mackinaw city, this grille boasts great food, a nice lake view, and amazing desserts all in one. The prices are quite fair, and the food is delicious. I would recommend the Maurice Salad or the grilled planked Whitefish dinner. They have an adorable ice cream parlor in the front, and the ice cream sundaes are a must have. FIRST VISIT: I have never felt so incredibly welcome at a dining establishment as I did at Harbor Lights Grille. Jeff greeted us as one would greet a weary traveler into their home on a bitter winter's day. His smile and demeanor are genuine. With the humble-heart of a father he asked, "Are you hungry?" We weren't greeted with the clanging of glasses and dishes and some random waitress huffing about. We were welcomed by both the owner and his staff as members of their own family. I can only describe the atmosphere as "angelic ambience." The decor and cleanliness of Harbor Lights grille is superb. The entire porch was beautifully decorated with everything "Christmassy." I don't know how they accomplished this without it looking tacky - but they did it! Our waitress was phenomenal. She casually glanced our direction several times as she "busied about," but only came to the table and addressed us when she could tell we were out of soda or needed something. At most places, we get a waitress who over-approaches constantly, which eventually feels more like an intrusion. That, or the exact opposite (waitstaff that never refills a soda or stops once). Harbor Lights Grille has a very well-informed, well-trained, professional staff. The food itself was quite literally world-class. I had the open-faced pot roast sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. My boyfriend had the house burger with sidewinder fries. I've never had fries that mouthwateringly perfect (yes, I swiped one of his fries - I never claimed to be Miss Manners). My open-faced pot roast sandwich was by far the absolute b-e-s-t pot roast I've ever had in my over-forty-years of life. I grew up in Montana (I'm very, very familiar with pot roast). It was slow-cooked to flawlessness - tender, juicy, perfect flavor. The brown gravy was eyelid-flutteringly divine, and the whipped mashed potatoes were decadently delicious. Without naming "other establishments," Harbor Lights Grille has now become "our spot." What blows my mind is the prices on their menu; not only are they budget-friendly, but they are actually quite "under-priced," in my opinion. Why? Because this is beyond fine dining - this is an entirely new "realm of sustenance." Thank you Jeff and staff for the absolutely amazing experience. I was recommended here from a local. We arrived with a party of 5 at 1030 and we were seated within five minutes. Our waitress arrived at 1104 and stated that they are no longer serving breakfast. So we had to look at the menu a second time to accommodate this rule. As we were waiting the kitchen kept kicking out plate after plate of breakfast food. At 1145 we still hadn't received our food and we noticed every other Table was being served breakfast, including tables seated after us. I placed a 20.00 bill on the table and we left. Was recommended by the Rainbow motel (Mackinaw City) where we stayed the first night. Out of the downtown hustle and bustle. Close drive about 6 minutes. Would even be worth it to drive a half hour. We ate dinner here on the recommendation our our hotel owner in Mackinaw City. It turned out to be one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a long time. An invitingly warm dining room with a beautiful view of the lake. I had black and white fish and it was one of the best fish dinners I've ever had. It came with great freshly cooked vegetables, wild rice, and a salad. All reasonably priced! Everyone in the restaurant was friendly. An overall great experience.
