Really really enjoyed this place. We love patio drinking! We sat outside, of course it was completely open. The sea breeze was blowing which kept us cool and the mosquitoes away for the most part. Our waitress was awesome. She kept the beers coming and even brought us koozies to keep them cold. We split a burger and fries and it was plenty of food for both of us. We came between meals so ordered some nachos and funnel cake fries which were both really good. The funnel cake fries needed a little more powdered sugar so that's just what we added. Crystal Beach ~ Hardheads I've had the pleasure of visiting Crystal Beach due to my family owning a fabulous beach house. It's miles of beach yet ironically it's not commercialized at all. You won't find a Walgreens etc. but there's one market for all of your food needs and a few bars and restaurants. My first night there was visiting this cute establishment. I wish I could've taken more pics but when you've just jumped off a plane, taken a two hour ride to then hop on the ferry to get here, it's tough. The food was great, service was sweet. I'll have to find the rest of the food pics but suffice to say, this place is worth visiting. read more

I thought this was a pretty legit place for food and beer. The Crying Eagle Louisiana Lager was really tasty, so I would highly recommend that. I had a shrimp poboy with fries and it was very filling and tasty. It's hard to find a good poboy in Texas too. I sat at the bar and service was good. Holly and the staff there are always warm and inviting The atmosphere is rustic and laid back and is wide open. If there is little to no breeze, it can get a bit warm, but generally here at the beach there's nearly always a breeze. The food is good and is consistently good. We enjoy going to Hardheads every time we visit Crystal Beach. read more

I will have to come back for a second chance for this one. Based on our first experience, it's just okay, barely. Our experience was on a Friday night, and I'm guessing for this place, busy. Our server looked pretty intimidated by everything, even a simple request for lemon looked like it may be rough. I did get the lemon though, so there's that. Smoking is rampant here In crystal beach, and allowed in this entire restaurant. Gross, no second visit is going to change that. I mean, wtf? Cigarettes kill Texans too. The super nachos ( probably not correct name) were really good. I enjoyed those more than my blackened catfish. I heard the ceviche was good, but I heard that about the fries too, and that was wrong. Still, we will probably go back for another visit at some point as we really like this little area. read more

We've eaten at Hardheads the last two years that we've visited Bolivar Peninsula. Both times it was four adults and four young kids ranging from 1-5. The food is great and the menu features what I would call standard beach bar/grill fare. Everyone, including the kids, found things on the menu they liked. The drinks were also reasonably priced and good. The greatest thing about Hardheads though is the service. Everyone working there is fantastic. I don't know if they try to market themselves as "family friendly" but it was the most family friendly staff I've witnessed at a restaurant not geared towards kids. They were so nice and accommodating to our kids and made us feel like they really wanted our business. We will be back every time we visit the area. read more

I had the Italian special; chicken tortellini with salad and garlic bread. It was so very good! Crisp fresh salad with lots of toppings & good Ranch dressing. The pasta was so good: crispy breadcrumbs covered the fat tortellini and grilled pieces of chicken. He had the fried catfish platter and got a large helping of hot and crispy catfish. This has to be one of the best go to restaurants in Crystal Beach area. We were acknowledged by the bartender as soon as we walked in. The service was impeccable, the decoration is interesting, and the vibe was friendly. The food was tasty! I like how they had fried pickles and fried jalapeños.. they were good not too spicy. The fried catfish filet was well seasoned and tasty, my only concern was the cole slaw that came with it (I forgot the name of the side), but it looked very sticky as if it had cheese or Xanthan gum. The chicken fried steak sandwich was good just add a bit of mustard and ketchup to taste since it does not come with gravy. I think the gravy would add a nice touch to the dish, but then again it is chicken fried steak in a sandwich/burger style. Ooh and the sweet tea was refreshingly delicious! read more

During our four-day stay in the Crystal beach area, this was hands down our best dining experience. Atmosphere: the indoor-outdoor style seating was the perfect combination of relief from the sun and heat while still enjoying the sea breeze. Service: Fastest and friendliest! Our food came out quickly, which we didn't often see on our trip. Our waitress, Bailey, was also extremely friendly and attentive. Food: Damn Good! We tried the frog legs, blackened fish tacos, fish bites, and the BLT. All were very good, with the tacos and fish bites being especially delicious! This place was extremely hot indoors, but who wants to sit near animals while eating. The owner, looked like Ozzy Osbourne & he wasn't welcoming. I don't know if the short lady was his wife, but she was worst...with her snobby looks. Beach vibes all the way. Husband and wife team run this joint and it's a solid choice if you're looking for some easy grub and an adult beverage to go with it. Their menu isn't long, but has just enough items to satisfy most folks. We really liked their poboys -- the shrimp were a good size as was the full piece of catfish. I think the poboys could be made better with some tomato slices. My inlaw's liked the fish tacos they ordered. Both come with crispy, seasoned crinkle fries. They have about 6-7 craft beers on tap from the SETX/LA area. Fully stocked bar and a solid bloody mary to boot. We will definitely come back to this place the next time we're on Crystal Beach. read more

I had high hopes for this place and got disappointed. The people were great, the service was great, but the food wasn't good. Usually I complain about bad service, this is just different. Decided to spoil myself and get my first Wagyu beef anything. The burger is $20 and comes with bacon and other extras. That's cool. However, it was cooked SUPER well done, which isn't a thing for Wagyu, or any burger unless you're over 55 years old. But alas, it was not the epiphany of flavor I had hoped for. Still decent, but for $20, I can get a load of food other places. The other dish we got was like a country fried steak with queso. That was better, but the cost vs. the overall goodness of the food fell pretty short. read more

I'm so glad this place is back open and owned but the same people. It was Hard Head's but now is called H2 Brewhouse & Scratch Kitchen. The Fried pickles were great and not overly greasy and the Bison Burger was outstanding and came with the extras without having to ask for it (like Bacon). The beer on tap was good and loved the Adios Pantalones. The waitress's was great and The new girl on the block "Harley" was good too. Ignore the 1-star from Matt C as HE needs to grow up!
