As a sometimes less than competent DYIer, I removed the belt tensioner and serpentine belt from my Odyssey. When putting it together I managed to cross thread the bolt into the block and messed up a few other things too. I had the car towed to Harloe to retap the block and put everything back together. Many mechanics would not touch a car that was messed up by a DYIer. Harloe fixed my screwups and put everything back together. I was expecting a repair bill of 3-4x what Harloe charged. I was surprised at how little he charged and even questioned his rate. Super happy with Harloe and highly recommend his shop. He is more than reasonable. read more

I have been going to Harloe's Auto for over 10+ years to service multiple work trucks. For the most part it was good service. However, the past few years my experiences with Harloes services have been declining. My most recent experience, I called for inspection of my truck due to overheating. Harloe said he would inspect it and get back to me, noting that it could be a while to fix the truck. I called one week and half later to find out that Harlo did not need to inspect my truck because he knew what it could be and then proceeded to tell me that he did not want to do the Job. Regarding my most recent experience, I understand if you do not want to do the job but the by not contacting your customer to tell them is disrespectful and waste time to fix my work truck. Today was my second time seeing Harloe and I left so happy with my car fixed and checked-in on. I took my car in the other day as soon as I heard the brakes crying and the cabin filter smelling like it needed a change... So I had to pay an extra $30 more than the quote I was given over the phone. The woman could have very easily refunded my credit card and let me pay with my debit card instead, but she wouldn't. We needed a last minute smog check, so my partner did some quick research and recommended I call Harloe's. Over a quick and pleasant phone call, I set up a next-day appointment and breathed a sigh of relief. I have been going to Harloe for many years, first for car repair and service and then for smogging. My experience has been excellent. Harloe is a master at troubleshooting, having identified the source of several challenging problems in both my cars and my daughters. I've taken several Subarus, a Honda Element and a Corvette to him with excellent results. I feel he is very honest and will tell you if something is beyond his shop's ability. Likewise, he will tell you if something really doesn't need to be replaced currently, and can be defrayed to the next visit. His prices seem pretty good and are much better than dealer. Sometimes a job that might have been promised out in a day at a dealership may require part of a second day with Harloe. This place is shady, unprofessional, and incredibly expensive $$$$! They never called me with a quote, they did work I didn't agree to and then just expected me to pay for it. Then I couldn't even get a straight answer from the owner when I asked for details about the work that had been done. Additionally, my car sat in the shop for two and a half days before it was even looked at. And in the end I had to ask two different people where my car even was, and it turned out they had parked it a about quarter mile up the road and left it unlocked. My wife and I drove from Reno to Half Moon Bay in our older Audi. It was our first post-Covid outing! Naturally, our tire pressure warning light came on. While I had a tire pressure gauge, I could not find a service Station that had air. Great service! Harloe saved us. We needed to get back to Sacramento that day and our bearings went bad on our 1977 VW Bus. He was able to get the parts and replace them in just a few hours at a great price! Also, if you're going to wait for your car the shop is right next to a small airport (its fun to watch the planes taking off and landing) and right next to the trail head for a nice little trail that has great ocean views. We took a nice little hike while waiting for the repairs. Also, he has the best handwriting I've ever seen from a mechanic... I can actually read the service receipt. All I can say is WOW!!! I don't write yelp reviews too frequently, but I really felt I needed to write one for Harloe's Automotive (and Harloe specifically). I just moved to the area and my check engine light kept coming on. I found Harloe on yelp. The place was close and the fee to initially check my car was decent (and lower than some of the other places in the area), so I tried them out. When I arrived I was attended to immediately. Everyone was very friendly and personable. I felt very comfortable right away. Turned out that Harloe did not have the part to fix my car but he put me in touch with a fellow mechanic who did fix my car. Harloe told me this place was a very good, honest and affordable. Not only did this other place fix my car the same day - they did it at a FRACTION of the cost of other places (believe me I called a bunch of different places and could not believe the price break I was being given - I'm talking a $700 difference from other places). I was so thankful for Harloe's honesty and recommendation/connection to this other place. Honestly.....What mechanic does that these days? Not many - if any!! Oh and when the final bill came for Harloe needing to initially check my car - it was HALF the price they quoted. Nice surprise!! YOU ROCK HARLOE!!! I don't write a lot of reviews and most of the time they have never been negative, but in this case I feel obligated to review this business if only to spare others from my experience. It is infuriating when a mechanic leaves a voicemail a month after I got my truck back in pieces, requesting to charge me a hour of labor for taking apart the center console. They kept my truck for a week and didn't fix a thing while it was sitting there! Are you kidding me? No I will not pay for an hour of labor while I was without my truck for a week AND you gave it back to me in PIECES!!! On top of that I had to call HIM to get updates 5 times, 2 during that week since he never called me when he said he was and the other 3 just to see if he remembered to order the part he said was the issue. These calls were with a lady that was asking me what parts I needed...I am sorry... aren't you the mechanic? What about Harlo? Did you guys just not write anything down on the intake receipt? Oh, she lost it and my phone number three times and my VIN# and apparently how to remove center console parts of a truck because they left damage on the parts around my stick shift. Yeah, no. I signed nothing with a quote on it. Wasn't even able to get him to tell me what part was causing the problem, other then it was a coil. It wasn't the coil by the way. There was no fricken coil! And yes sir, I know how a fricken car battery works and didn't need you to assume I have no working truck knowledge. Thanks. They originally quoted me 2 days to diagnose, 2 days to get the part and 2 hours to fix. By the time I found out they had no idea what this issue was and how they were not going to be putting my truck back together, it had been over a month of driving my truck around with NO center console! They didn't even call this last time until it had been another month since we last talked to even let me know there was a bill. I called and asked... Twice! He said there wouldn't be because "It really didn't take anytime to remove those parts. Don't worry about it". I can tell by the gouge marks in my center console pieces it took no time at all dude. Screw that, I found out the issue, found a mechanic that works on my truck and fixed it in 2 fricken days. Apparently I never needed most of the pieces they took apart or needed to remove my 2 front seats!! Yes, you read that right. They were going to remove my 2 front seats for what? To charge me more?! I was able to remove the part and replace with ease. Hour tops since the part was quick to get. I wanted to support my local shops and businesses, but never again here. read more

LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES AT HOME! I just picked up my bus from Harloe. It was in his shop for 8 working days for a minor service (under $300). Normally he can get the job done in 1 or 2 days. I was told that the car would be left on the street with the keys & bill in the glove box. When I arrived to pick it up the doors were unlocked and the keys & bill we're on the drivers seat. But the worst part is that my key ring "disappeared" from the keys. When I asked Harloe about it he said he didn't remember any key ring. That's not surprising considering how many cars he sees in a day. But the attitude that I got from him was that I was making the whole thing up. No thank you or I'm sorry. I just moved out the coast this year and was in need of a good mechanic. Being a mechanic in a former life I have a pretty high standard of workmanship. So good location and a lot of good reviews I thought I would give Harloe's a try. I have a Hummer H2 Diesel Conversion and the A/C went out. Took it to Harloe and he (and his crew) found a puncture. He said he could get it replaced by the following Wednesday, Which was great up until I realized that I was leaving on a camping trip Wednesday morning. The team at Harloe's was able to squeeze me in and get the job done by Tuesday night. YeHaw. They didn't just replace the part they took the time to discover the root cause and to also fix that.
