As a Chicago native 9 times out of 10, Harold's will always be my first stop when I come home to visit. I grew up off the 87th/State or 103rd/Halsted locations and if you know you know that each Harold's is different. I placed an online order and the wait wasn't terrible at around 15 mins. I ordered 3 wing dinners and asked for one of them to have the sauce on the side since I wasn't sure if my son would like the Mild sauce. When I arrived, the restaurant was empty but it was still pretty early in the day. There's no seating at this location which is fine since I don't know many people who eat in anyway. I waited maybe 2 minutes to get handed my food and was on my way. When I got home, I noticed that all the orders had sauce on the side which was disappointing. The cup of sauce that came on the side wasn't nearly as much as what would have been poured on. Luckily I ordered 1 additional sauce on the side but it wasn't enough to share. I am getting better at reviewing Chicago "Stapled Restaurants". I grew up on Harolds. Stopped in last night for the infamous 6 wings, extra mild sauce with black pepper and a jalapeño on the side. Wings are always dropped fresh to order. The taste isn't one that can be explained lol. If you're new to Chicago or visiting you'll just have to try it. If you're a Chicago native than you know what I mean. The important thing to know is there are many harolds. I love me some Harold's chicken. First time at this location and besides only taking cash, I found it good. It took 15minutes for.my order which is good as it shows they are frying it fresh. Took me another 20 minutes to get home but I didn't mind. I ordered 2 dinners, chicken and livers and chicken and gizzards. The lovers were fried to perfect and the gizzards were not hard as usually that's how they are made at other locations. For circuses, inside is small so you really can't consider this is dining restaurant. I didn't like that some of the signs were hand written (invest in photocopies). And the flyers strewn were not impressive to me, but the food is perfection. Very kind workers and of course YELPS tip so I found thst the worker was surprised that I did with their tip jar. They said they only accept cash so he had to run across town getting stuck behind two cargo trains just to go to an atm to get cash out. Just for him to walk in and see signs that says cashapp and Zelle accepted really?!!! When my husband questioned why they said on th phone they only accept cash. The cashier had no real answer and look dumbfounded. After getting stuck behind two trains to get cash out he actually did not need the food was not ready. He still ended up waiting another 30+ plus minutes for them to cook up two pieces of fish. Then the cashier had an attitude about my husband asking about the wait. Terrible customer service. The wings here are classic and taste like the normal delicious Harold's Chicken wings that I know with that classic delicious mild sauce! Yum! I used to go to a different location for years and now that they are closed permanently, I tried here and I am happy! The turkey tips are also delicious. I had been looking for a place since all the other barbeque and jerk chicken places tips are way too spicy for me. They are perfect here. Cooked perfectly with a delicious barbeque sauce! Visiting Chicago meant visiting Harold's. Although each is independently owned the chicken and sauce are supposedly the talk of the town. Well I had a large gizzards combo and it did not disappoint. The food was made to order so it was not sitting under the lamp when you got there. The chicken was nicely browned seasoned. The amount was enough for two people so there was plenty. As instructed I downed my chicken in the mild secret sauce. As a child of the south I like my chicken with a little more seasoning, but Harold's was good. The sauce was good yet drowning the chicken in it made it a too wet for me. Over all Harold's was a worthwhile experience. I love this Harold's. My friends and family hot spot. Spend a lot of money. Today was a total shock to say the least. I ordered over the phone. India ( red braids) takes the order and completely hangs up in my face before I'm done. I picked the food up minutes later, store's empty. I told her about the call and their was not a care in sight. I had to ask for an apology. She apologized with a smirk to her coworker with locks. They both walked towards the back. This was a terrible experience. I spend so much money here. To the older lady who takes the order, I appreciate you so much and I love your service. When you hire young people (not all) who don't care how they treat their customers, the company suffers. Now I normally don't write these type of reviews but tonight the lack of customer service I received from this location was sad. First of all the website says the location closes at 10 pm. I called at 9pm and there was no answer and I was already headed to the location. I arrived at the location at 9:05 to see the Open sign illuminated and the door unlocked. I proceeded to walk into the restaurant there was a gentleman there who had already placed his order. There was a service bell on the counter so I rang it the young lady appears from the back and states we're closed. The time was approximately 9:08 pm I didn't make a scene I politely nodded my head and left. My problem with this is even if you are closed the proper thing to do is answer the phone and tell the customers we are closed. It's called communication and another appropriate thing to do would be to turn off your open sign and to lock the establishment door if you're closed. I called this location the other day and the lady answered the phone and said I'm sorry we are closed and that is how it should be. I find it totally unacceptable not to take walk in orders at 9:08. Now I can understand not taking phone orders after a certain time but not walk-ins. Please teach our younger generation the basics of customer service and how to properly treat your customers. read more

When in Chicago, do as the Chicagoans do. My first time in the Windy City and we headed out to a Harold's location for some good ol' fried chicken. Being as this was the first time, I did the unthinkable and got my chicken with the mild sauce on the side. I wanted to be sure the chicken was spot on before covering it in sauce. Both the sauce and the chicken (and the fries) were delicious separately, but when they come together... amazing! Next time, I'll be sure to order my food with the sauce covering every aspect of it.
