Service is nice, ambiance is beautiful. Portions are great. Only foreseeable qualm (not encountered on my visit) is parking given the location. But given the size of the establishment and the current parking available, I think it's plenty and essentially self-limiting if you will. i.e if there's no parking, it's probably too busy down there as it is...it's a situation where if you get mad at the parking, then you're going to get mad at the service /wait-time and in that case, you should just go somewhere else for the night. read more

Mixed review here... My mother in law really wanted to eat here, (July 2025), and was visiting from out of state. I have had many older experiences with this establishment and they were all good. However, the first thing that happened was my wife asking me about a strange smell in the sitting area adjacent to the main lobby. Upon investigation I noticed a strong odor and could actually see black mold around the carpet by a water cooler. Dinner was also a mixed bag. The waiter forgot my salad until partially through the main course. He did not check to refill our drinks. Service was slow with only three other tables in the dining room. Food was ok, not great, not bad, but certainly not worth the price. The whole place looks like it needs a major facelift to restore its character. I cannot recommend it at this point in time due to the obvious and fragrant mold issue, (I did notify the front desk). read more

Cant go below a 1. Was told needed a reservation was seated at the bar yet the same empty seats when we left. Ordered grilled chicken (partly raw) and crab cakes, got 3 of them. The crab was the cheap breaded kind and looked like went from freezer to deep fryer. I know crab cakes and those were an abomination (for $20). Ignored by the bartender the entire meal. Oh and when we sent the chicken back no apologies for the raw food and when we got the replacement it looked like the cook just cut out the raw pieces. Nice way to end a vacation. read more

We have experienced fine dining on three continents. We have had severe food poisoning from a fast food restaurant in South Dakota. This was the worst dining experience in our entire life. There is an allure and disappoint about Porter's as a theme. The ambiance is inviting; the seating was not. The wait staff was pleasant and disappeared. The pear and thyme martini was good on the first sip and then undrinkable. The first bite of the salad was intriguing; the third bite was repulsive. 90 min later the scallops arrived; burnt, heavily salted, and tough as jerky. I had to spit out the first bite as inedible. This restaurant presented as upscale Maine dining; unfortunately, it is Mainely inedible. read more

Very quaint dining space in the lovely Harraseeket Inn. We had a table of 8, so I'll just be reviewing what I ordered/shared. We started with the sweet potato gnocchi, which floated in a seat of butter, sage, and maple syrup. Very tasty. I recommend dipping some bread in the mix when the gnocchi have disappeared. We also had an oyster! Big day, as it was my first raw oyster. (Please keep your judgement to yourself.) Delicious, as well. The flavors complimented the oyster. It was a quick experience! My wife and I shared the Brussels sprout salad and the local greens salad. I couldn't say which one I liked better, but I would take either on a second trip. Very different. For my entre, I went with a special, the pan roasted New York strip. It was served on a bed of risotto with a side of spinach. The meat was a little past medium rare, but still very good. I didn't enjoy the sides by themselves, but went fantastically with the meat in one, well-assembled bite. My dessert was the blueberry pie with ice cream. Wonderful way to finish off the evening. Everything I was looking for. Some additional items of interest: *The food is from local farms. You find out where your salad started! *Only tables of 7 or less are treated to the table-side cooking. *Greg, while a very capable server, wasn't super friendly. We went to the Sunday buffet. Lots of great food for your great food dollar here. Stars of the show were the lobster and prime rib. The BBQ pork and mashed potatoes was right on, as was a watermelon salad. The coconut shrimp had been in the fryer too long for me, The desserts and service were top notch. read more

This is one of those places that I would rank as one of the top dining experiences of my life. The service is impeccable. The food is top notch. I've spent the past ten years eating at some of the top culinary darlings in SF, NYC, Boston and Chicago and I have to put this place on the same scale. One of my favorite perks about this place is that they still have stations where they will come over and prepare your Caesar salad from scratch, flambee dessert and other little dishes--I don't want to spoil the surprise! It is more of a special occassion place and not one where you can dine out on a quotian basis. It's really one of the gems of the Maine cooking scene. I started my meal with a tomato/bacon soup which had a disturbing lack of tomato flavor. it didn't bother me since it was delicious, but I was still worried about what the rest of our meal would be like. For entrees my fiancee went with a Lobster/pastry dish -- which was ridiculously good, and I don't even like lobster that much (unless it's DRENCHED in butter-- which this wasn't). I got the New York Strip with risotto...unreal. the steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The risotto was as flavorful as possible. For desert we went for the Harraseeket Crapes. Crapes cooked in butter and booze -- flambe. then Strawberries cooked the same...then ice cream on top....I'm not even joking I would eat this till my stomach exploded. Had a New Year's Eve dinner reservation for 2 people at 7:30. At 7:30, we told the hostess we were there. There were 2 couples ahead of us and 1 group of 4. Many couples and groups arrived after us. However, we were the last couple to be seated, which was at 8:10! I asked the hostess about their seating process, said we were one of the first people to arrive, yet the last seated. She said everyone arrived at once. Not true. After being seated, we waited 10 more minutes for the waitress to greet us. I have to say that the quality of food and service do not match. The menu is fantastic. I had a mouthwatering steak. It melted in my mouth. The table side service for a Cesar salad was out of this world and my lobster stew appetizer was out of this world. I would give the chef and kitchen staff 5 stars. Here comes the flip side. Our party of 4 with reservations only ordered 2 courses. We were literally there for 3 hours waiting for our meals. I'm not kidding you. The waiter ignored us. This place used to be one of the best restaurants in Maine. My mother and I have enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner here for the past 10 years. However this year it appears they have changed chefs, the decor and really the entire approach to the restaurant. Where the menu used to fuse tradition with top quality and some unique variations, it's now far more 'nouveau cuisine', that at least in my opinion does not work at all. My mother and I didn't even get through 1/3 of our mains before deciding it just didn't taste good enough to continue eating. That would have been unthinkable in any previous year. The decor has also been made for generic. What was once elegant, traditional New England now looks more like a chain restaurant, albeit an upscale one. This is reflected in the name change from the simple 'Maine Dining Room' to the rather pretentious 'Maine Harvest'. As with the previous reviewer (with whom I think my mother spoke), we were seated in the 'private dining room' with aluminum/plastic chairs and no atmosphere whatsoever. The staff understood and reseated us immediately. The service was still good, it's worth noting. So if any servers at the restaurant read this, please know it's not at all aimed at you! This was such a great place. I don't understand why it was felt necessary to change it. One of my favourite restaurants is no more! read more

One of the best dining experiences i've ever had! The staff is extremely friendly and great! Never felt better eating at a restaurant. The burger is absolutely to die for and it's HUGE! The spinach and artichoke dip is also very good. The menu selection gives everyone something to munch and and the drinks menu is very plentiful as well. Excellent dinner tonight. Special was ribeye Au poivre, bleu cheese mashed potatoes and charred carrots. Meat cooked a perfect medium rare. My son had filet mignon from the children's menu, perfect with grilled potatoes. Desserts were fantastic from chocolate soufflé to milk chocolate creme brûlée to turtle sundae. This was the WORST meat I have ever had. The tea was only somewhat lukewarm, reminding me of my dirty dishes still soaking in their old dishwater back home. Next came the Caesar Salad that was prepared in front of us by our overwhelmed waitress. Our romaine, which tasted of preservatives, consisted of an overall styrofoam feel. It certainly was not 'fresh'. It lacked dressing. Honestly the only part of this meal that was actually okay was our anchovies, which were straight from the can. With an excessive amount of pepper on the salad, I found myself desperate for more water which never seemed to appear. Finally, the main course arrived. My scallops were drenched in fat and grease. I know they are trying to go for a nautical theme, but swimming in grease is a bit overboard. What I think was suppose to be potatoes sitting at the bottom of my plate resembled more like the leftover French fries someone might find at McDonalds. Now I realize McDonalds would have been the better choice. I left with an empty belly, an empty wallet, and an empty bottle of Tums. read more

Christmas grand buffet? What an embarrassment. Where do I start? We waited 15 minutes before being seated. The logistics of the affair were awkward. People with plates of food were forced to push their way past patrons at the hostess stand. No other entrance was available to return to your table. Lets now talk about the food. How can you offer roasted potatoes that are raw? That is Culinary 101. Every entree was cold and dry-from the pork to the duck. The serving dishes were awkward to navigate. The carving stations were manned by people who had no knife skills. Who offers lox and capers with nothing more than dinner rolls? A bowl of runny pudding or thick eggnog with no bowls or cups to serve yourself topped things off, along with other desserts. What a disappointing way to spend Christmas day. read more

Instead of how may I help you , she totally threw me with her Gruff Demeanor & Wondering What We were there for?? Huh ...Dinner for 2. I said . She right this way & told us that they are Booked this Evening! Walked into dining room only another couple in corner . Expected it to be packed like the Tavern...it gradually filled in but the dining room only had a couple at the bar and one other couple seated. My Lamb was tasteless ....did enjoy the orzo . Our waitress kept forgetting things and spilling things and we had to ask multiple times for things like water refills. My take is somewhat unique as I may be the first to critique the "Saturday" breakfast buffet which differs from the Sunday brunch in price and food options. I stopped here as a midway stop on my trip home. I had visited Freeport over 20 years prior and wanted to eat here but never had the opportunity until this month. With the exception of LL Bean all the stores were still close this cloudy Saturday morning so I ventured in the restaurant. The place was crowed but the tables were space apart and covered in table clothes, and not a TV in sight, while people were quietly speaking to each and other not yelling to be heard. Remember when those qualities described all the nice restaurants. After being quickly, seated I was dismayed to learn that the breakfast buffet was the only meal option as plated meals were not offered. I almost left but decided to eat here as dining at the Harraseeket was on my bucket list. While not too hungry the price of $17.99 which included coffee and a good assortment of refillable juice seemed resonable even of I did not refill my plate. The buffet had a good assortment of food including fresh fruit, muffins, pecan bread, potatoes, bacon and sausage, and some toasted bread. While two kinds of scramble eggs dishes were offered no cook to order omelets,were offered nor other meat choice as this was a traditional early breakfast meal. Like most buffets the food was warm not hot. My servicer was fine but not overly attentive. In closing, if you wish to dine in upscale surroundings and experience old time Maine dining this is a good option in outlet paradise. Considering coffee and juice is included the price is on par with a la cate plated breakfast, plus one can have seconds. read more

We have been coming to this area for 10 years and now have a cottage on Bailey Island nearby. This is our favorite without any close 2nd. The food is always fresh, local when available, and prepared to please. I always have seafood and have never been disappointed and my wife is mostly duck or beef (grass fed) and hasn't been disappointed either. read more

I forgot to mention that when I brought the very disappointing and rude service (rude bartender/server, mixed up order, cold food) to the attention of the Manager, she gave me a marginal apology. Expected a lot... based on Maine Harvest's reputation, was not crowded at all. Dinner for 5, 86th birthday celebration, Friday night, yes, we made reservations. Drinks were fine, ok service. The amuse bouche (short rib with crunchy potato) was tepid, but tasty. The stroganoff was basic, uninspired, served in a giant bowl; the baked chicken was dry, and the chef could not/would not make another sauce without mushrooms; the scallops were large (4) but salty with paltry accompaniments of roots vegetables; the haddock was undercooked and bland. Wine glasses were slow to be refilled. While waiting for dessert, a worker was actively sweeping the carpet with a carpet sweeper at the next table. When asked, she said she had to prep the table for future diners, even though all the other tables were empty. We felt hurried, as if they were about to close, even though it was 8:00 & they close at 9:30. The dessert coffee was tepid and the cream curdled. When asked, more coffee was made, which took 10 minutes, but was better, hotter & the new cream was fresh. We have no intention of ever returning to Maine Harvest, because of food quality: poor to average, service: poor to average, staff attitude: poor. The staff seemed to just want to go home. read more

The inn has two dining areas, one, the tavern is good - bustling and noisy with good sized portions but the Maine Dining Room (that's the official name) is really excellent. Lobster can be had in the shell or poached and de-shelled. The appetizers are excellent. Recently I had the small lambchops - whatever the menu called them - and they were superb. Many and varied entrees are all at the top of the Freeport dining world. This is definitely the premier place in town. read more
