We had dinner here last night as our first night out in Stowe. Didn't know what to expect as we're here during the winter holidays and we made reservations a bit last minute where we could, basically where there was availability. The ambiance is rustic and charming, old time feel and the wood in the fireplace was crackling and giving off an amazing atmosphere and smell! We were seated by a friendly young lady who said it was her first night back from college on winter break, so she didn't know the extra specials they had, but that was A-OK! The waiter finally came and bless his heart, while nice, was a little nervous, uncertain and uncomfortable. We asked if they had sherry or Port--each time, he had to go back and check. We finally got some Porto (after he came back to the table with 2 options / bottles in hand--all things considered, the Port was great). We finally ordered the Truffled Hummus (nothing truffled about it, it looked and tasted like store-bought hummus). We actually knew the taste was not going to be great at all by the bread that first came out - old bread, just heated. And incredibly yeasty dough. Not good. The Seafood Fra Diablo was a joke - it had frozen small shrimp in it and the TINIEST scallops I have ever seen. See the pictures. My husband and I both had the salmon--the entire dish was incredibly oily. Overall for the quality and taste, the place was overpriced too. We skipped the desert and called it a night. 2 Stars because I think the fireplace was amazing and the Port and the clam chowder was really good. (I forgot to mention it earlier, but my friend did think it was delicious.) Will unfortunately not be returning, still--good Port and soup, and all. Beautiful scenic restaurant in Stowe VT with great views of the mountain ranges that offers indoor and outdoor seating with live music. Service was a little slow at the time but the hospitality of the staff, food, and plating was exceptional. Definitely recommend the blueberry white chocolate cheesecake there for dessert, it was delicious. read more

Super friendly staff immediately on entering the restaurant and throughout the night. They had a live singer outside, beautiful views of the mountains, would definitely recommend sitting outside weather permitting. Food was all excellent, plating spectacular. Menu is relatively small but food tastes fresh and authentic. Do be aware food may take a little extra time to come out but is worth it. The restaurant is also next to a large farm so when the cows come to visit it may get a bit stinky but they are cute and I think add to the experience. The absolute worst dining experience we have ever had, avoid at all cost. Reservation For 5:15, we were the first and only people there for 15 mins. Waitress never put in our drink order, we asked and eventually got the wrong drinks, fine. Then our food DID NOT COME FOR MORE THAN 2 HOURS. You read that right, every table around us got their food and ours was nowhere to be found. Im sure the completely incompetent waitress never put in the order. We were there with small children to make matters worse and they were starving. We were visiting so couldn't even cook at home. 0/10 never come here!!! read more

My family was visiting from out of town and we attempted to go to this place twice and both times they refused to let us order takeout, saying the window had closed at 6PM even though they had just opened at 5PM. However, they said there was plenty of room for us to dine in. I get the impression this restaurant frowns on takeout requests. Our first experience a few months ago was very pleasant. We ordered to-go and a nice young woman helped us out with our order. This time around, a gentleman turned us down on two separate days. Having had their food only once, I can say it was enjoyable. I would not recommend this restaurant. We had a 5:30 reservation and were promptly shown to our table. Our poorly trained waiter took our order and brought bread to the table. Our drink order arrived 30 minutes late. We waited over two hours and no food appeared. Upon questioning the wait staff we never got an answer as to what was the hold up. We finally got up and left. while leaving we heard the chef yelling from the kitchen for us to "Fucking leave". Having eaten at many fine restaurants and a few Michelin rated establishments, I can say the Bistro does not deserve your patronag. read more

It's like being invited to dinner at a friend's home. Your friend happens to be the chef and you can order whatever you want, seafood, stews, grilled or baked. It gets better , you are served and will not be asked to do the dishes. 10 acres is the best restaurant in Stowe. Please ignore the negative reviews. I was so blown away by the service, plating and the quality and taste of each dish that we came back here a week later for my birthday. The portions are copious. I overate the first time, so decided to enjoy my meal more the second time, by ordering a lot less food. The soup of the day on my second visit was a cheddar ale. It was a rich velouté with the perfect amount of cheddar and ale. Our server suggested a cup versus the bowl, since we were ordering dinner, but I could see the bowl being a dinner in itself. The Truffle fries are addictive as are the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, which have a nice, spicy kick. The cider glazed tenderloin was tender and tasty, as were its accoutrements. I've never tasted better or creamier polenta. The Mediterranean Duck Confit with beet hummus and raison couscous: the entire dish was so good that I overindulged versus take half of it home. I'll do better next visit. We ordered the the chocolate mousse cake for dessert (I have the name wrong, cannot recall its actual name) and it was perfect to share with two spoons. The flavors of every dish are a perfect marriage and it's like a symphony in your mouth (think of Rémy in Ratatouille; those type of in your mouth fireworks). Amazing experience. Thankfully, I went on a slower night so I got to talk to the staff. They are so welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be back the next time in Stowe. House Salad was VERY good. Unique, with a maple vinaigrette, crunch onions, sunflower seeds, and strawberries. Such a good mix of sweet and salty. The squash bisque (I think that's what it was) with a brown sugar rim: wonderful. Salmon was beautifully plated with potatoes and some very well seasoned pieces of pork. 5/5 all around. read more

Very courteous staff, but strange reservation system -- only available reservation was 5:45 on Friday night (with strict instructions not to be late), yet the dining room was empty, except for our table, the whole time we were there. Other parties were seated outside on the terrace, but nobody else inside -- there was no reason we had to eat so early, unless they had a million cancellations, which seems unlikely. Steak tartare was very good, served with apparently home-made potato chips. House salad was expensive ($17? Really?) Cedar-glazed pork loin was also expensive ($42), and oversold by the waiter. We came here without a reservation since it looked like there was plenty of open spots on Resy. We were sat immediately and it was a very pleasant experience start to end. We started with Beef tartare (excellent) and brussel spouts (beyond excellent) and then moved on to the mussels and pork loin. Both were good. Kevin was a really wonderful server too. Beautiful location, iconic old building. Wanted to love this plate, but...started with a cheese plate that had store bought crackers/cornichon/mediocre cheese for VT. I had a salad with salmon that was bland, fish was 'mushy', certainly not great. My SO had the fish of the day which had an overpowering, heavy sauce. Desert was not house made, looked/tasted like something from a high volume producer. Our order was overlooked, so the waiter brought a glass of extra wine (we didn't mind the delay as we love leisurely dining). We had FANTASTIC meals nearby and this place just felt 'off' to us. Food is a little pricey and menu limited without any nightly specials offered. The libations were good. The smoked Caesar salad we shared but a little pricey for a salad. My husband had the coconut mango curry and added shrimp and he was pleased, my park rib eye was very good but a little dry and not enough polenta. The flavors however were delicious. Husband had carrot cake that was not made on the premises but tasted good. Waiter was nice but was the only one on staff. We were finally able to get a reservation during our annual trip to Stowe. The menu was simple and everything we had was outstanding. Great experience. The view is beautiful overlooking the mountains. The inside is a cute little house converted into a restaurant, very homey but upscale. We order the filet and it was cooked to perfection. Our server was great and everything was timed perfectly. They do have a large parking lot to the side as well. We will be back! read more

My wife and I were able to get a night out without the kids and we couldn't have chosen a better place! The setting and staff were excellent, but the food was the star. The standout dish was definitely the pan seared lobster over polenta. The pan searing brought out more flavor in the lobster than I've ever tried before. We might have to return to Vermont another year just to get more. The pork shank was also great - the biggest portion I've ever seen! But still finished it. The appetizer we had was also exceptional - would definitely re-order. It was a raw tuna poke over wonton cracker with seaweed, Avocado mouse, etc. Well balanced and delicious. His pork tenderloin was tender, jusiy and had a nice sweet lavor which was not overwhelmnng to the dish. The salmon was undercooked, the entrees came out less than 2 minutes after the appetizers, the vegetables that came with the hummus were slimy and the hummus was terrible. This was our most expensive meal during our weeklong Vermont vacation (we went to Killington, Burlington and Stowe), but it was really only just OK. The woman who sat us also served us, and while she was perfectly nice, she definitely acted like she was just doing her job. Her matter-of-fact personality, coupled with the restaurant's emptiness (we visited during the holidays amid Covid-19, left a lot to be desired. The ambiance felt very... blank, and I wish they had some Christmas decorations up in the room where we dined. The walls were ugly yellow, and it was very dark with plastic over the windows. The food was also just OK. I disagree with some of the other reviews that the dishes are presented beautifully. They're very average. We ate the gnocchis, duck and filet. Was in town over Columbus weekend and tried to get a table, but covid restrictions had this place maxed out. Then menu looked awesome so my wife and I both being foodies with culinary experience we opted for take out. All I can say is these chefs did an awesome job. Ordered tuna poke, Brussels, duck confit, and a Faro Salad with shrimp. The take out containers were nicely 'plated' and the flavors were outstanding. Where do I start but by saying WOW what Ana amazing restaurant. The Wait staff was amazingly friendly, funny and kind. Fantastic vibe and atmosphere with Good old frank Sinatra playing in the background. It completely made the dinner feel homey and warm. Mind you my wife and I are 33 and 31 and we loved every second of it. Nothing but amazing things to say about this place, the staff and atmosphere. I'd been impressed in the past with the excitement of the menu. I was really disappointed to spend $40 on a perfectly cooked steak but side dishes that did not wow. The mashed potatoes had the consistency of soup and the "vegetable medley" looked liked boiled veggies. No char. No flavor. Not even cooked. They still had all of their raw crunch and not in a tasty way. I use to recommend that visitors and family go here but I would not now. I miss the delicious sandwiches/burgers you folks use to have. And the sticky toffee bread pudding was a delight. And the pineapple salad. This was such a disappointment. read more
