I have come to this shop on a couple of occasions and have had exceptional service every time. Kevin has been my main contact at the shop and he is extremely professional, responsive and generally a pleasant person. The same goes for all of the other folks that I have spoken to from time to time. Most recently I called Kevin to discuss an issue with my late 90's Audi and Kevin actually reminded me that he had looked at a related problem on my car many months before. I had forgotten but he remembered! When I dropped the car off Kevin was frank about the turnaround time and provided a rough estimate for the cost. After conducting many diagnostic tests the team was able to identify a very tricky electrical problem (rather than the originally diagnosed problem) which cost less than half the price. Needless to say I was jumping for joy. I had been using a different mechanic for a number of years now but I don't think I can ever go back after having dealt with Kevin and his team. read more

My Land Rover LR3, got starting issues that I had to get fixed. I looked up Harry`s Auto Repair on Trustpilot and saw good reviews. With my car I am always affraid to get rippet off when anything done on it. I gave Kevin (The auto repair owner) a call and explained the problem. Keven took my car in the same day to have a look. The next day he could inform me that it needed a battery replacement (I was affraid it was the starter or Alternator). I also wanted to get my broken side mirror replaced. Kevin was able to find a used on to put on at 20% of the cost of a new one, so I went ahead with that as well. The best part of it was that Kevin gave my very durty car a complementary detailing wash....Wav it looked brand new when I picked it up. 2 stars for taken it in on the day. 2 stars for a low cost solution and 1 start for the wash. I will definitely come back if anything is wrong with my car. read more

I am a used car dealer and have taken four vehicles there at the request of the customer. Unless I bring a Honda they seem to tell the customer that they would not buy this car. Out of 4 vehicles checked by them they came up with an average of $1,500 worth of repairs which is ridiculous. Out of the 4 customers that they tried to talk out of buying the car 3 people did purchase the vehicle because they said they did not trust the shop and feel like they waisted their time and money. One time the mechanic asked me if the van had an 8 cylinder or 6....it was a grand caravan and for the over 20 years since the caravans were introduced they never came with a 8 cylinder... i brought my car in to have a rattle repaired. they told me my weak shocks were the reason for the metal on metal sound. i agreed to have them replaced. when i got the car back not only was the rattle still loud and clear, there was no difference going over bumps. i've had shocks replaced before in other vehicles. i could feel a significant difference in the drive of the vehicle. there was no difference here and the car still rattles!! i called back and told them. he told me to bring the car back. i wanted to trust them so i did. they seem very honest and kind. he went on to tell me that i needed new leaf springs, which cost a lot of money to replace. why couldnt they figure that out before or at least before they returned the car to me? they could have taken the car for a drive to make sure the rattle was gone. i lost trust. i can't bring myself to let them do an expensive repair if they dont have the common sense to test a car before returning it to a customer. they are definitely nice people but i don't trust their ability to diagnos. read more

I want to give this shop a great review, I really do. Despite the casual business etiquette (they answer their phone "hello" and don't provide any kind of written work order estimate), I've had several good experiences here. Also, knowing a bit about cars myself, I think they're honest in repair assessments. However, I recently had an experience with a break repair job whereby the price quote for the replacement parts was unreasonably high, at double the price of what I was able to source online. With new calipers, the service charge and rotors he also wanted to replace, the estimate provided added up to $1080 (without any other parts needed that might be discovered upon repair). This felt high for a break job so I took the car to Sears, where they performed the same job with same replacement parts for a total of $660. I saved over $400. The $260 calipers Harry wanted to charge cost me $88.99 at Sears. Now, Sears had it's own drawbacks, but I wouldn't recommend getting repairs done at Harry's without doing your own research on the price he wants to charge for parts. The price for both after-market and original manufacturers' parts are easily found online. read more

After having so many bad experiences with mechanics over the years, I really wanted to have a good experience over at Harry's, especially after reading the positive reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately they weren't able to come through for me. I brought in my car with an electrical problem that has been causing the door locks to trigger repeatedly and the battery to drain overnight. After holding onto the car for a few days Kevin assured me it was the battery (even though I just replaced it a few days before bringing it in) and charged me to replace it. He said they stand by their work. To his credit, Kevin is very polite and easy to talk to over the phone. A week after bringing the car home I started having all of the same issues again, so I brought the car back. Two more times. In total they held onto the car for more than three weeks and were never able to resolve or duplicate the problem. I got the feeling they never gave the car a second look and just told me they couldn't duplicate the problem because it's a difficult fix. Kevin called this "accommodating" but I don't see how given I paid them to fix it and it was extremely inconvenient bringing the car in multiple times only to not have the issue resolved. If electrical work isn't their expertise I would rather they be up front about it and tell me so I didn't waste my time. On the drive back home, the door locks started going off again, and I won't be surprised to find the battery dead in a few days. I don't recommend Harry's for electrical work. read more

We needed quite a bit of work done on the car and found this place in the neighborhood. We are lucky to have first class service and competitive prices so close. We went by early in the morning and they asked us to come back at 2. When we returned, we dropped off the car for FREE diagnostics. They called shortly with a list of what needed to be done and the price. Once they started, they found something else that wasn't discoverable until they were working on it. They called immediately with the update and for approval to fix. I'm expecting a baby this month and they threw in the car wash and detail job for less than half price as a 'gift' to us. It was ready the next afternoon when promised. they even told me about a tire that I should replace as it was looking dangerous and recommended a place nearby. We will use Harry's as long as we are living in NYC! The customer service was wonderful!! read more

The mechanic I worked with at Harry's is a superstar. When I was stuck at an intersection a block away (on a holiday, no less!) he jogged over and pushed my car to the shop! He then checked out my car, realized that it's issue would best be handled by the manufacturer, and moved other cars around so that I could be towed. Amazing, honest, and heroic. Came to Harry's many times over the course of the last two years. Any time I've taken a vehicle there for anything other than brake work, they've misdiagnosed, failed to repair, or made worse any already existing problems. Gave them too much credit and kept returning for business. After they were unable to recognize a loose ball joint for the third time, I gave up. I now know because, months after telling me the problem was fixed, the ball joint failed, my axle broke, and caused my front end to crash to the pavement while driving at a slow speed. At a high speed, this could have caused a catastrophic crash and injury to myself and others. Ignore any positive Yelp reviews. Their inspections take ten minutes because they don't do them. Their shop is filthy and poorly maintained. Truly the worst mechanics I've ever had to deal with. read more

Had car serviced here a few times over the years. Will never go back. They had to do some body work on the car after a fender bender. Car looked shiny and good as new when I got it back. A few months later I noticed there was a leak whenever it rained. Left for a vacation with the car covered up and came back to mold everywhere in the interior. Had to shell out 1K to a real auto shop who not only cleaned the mold but identified and fixed the bad seal. No point taking it back to Harry's for more shoddy work. Another job they did for me a couple years ago was also totally mediocre, problem came back shortly after they 'fixed' it. I should have learned then. No one here, especially Kevin, is an actual mechanic or body expert. All the guys in the shop look like they're learning on the job. AVOID! read more

I've been meaning to do this for years. Harry's Auto is THE BEST. In my 20 plus years of owning cars, I have never found more competent and honest mechanics than the folks at Harry's. I've never had mechanics be more thorough in explaining things and actually SHOW me the problem. Take me under the hood, or under the car and SHOW me what is up, which often as a woman, mechanics can treat you like you are an idiot or you should just take there word for it, not the people at Harry's. They are masters at all engines German and Scandinavian. I have a Volvo V70 wagon, that I have been taking there for 5 years. My friend just purchased a Volvo V70 XC on Ebay (today) and we took it straight to Kevin at Harry's. We spent an hour WITH him looking under the hood, under the car. He found some problems, explained the ones that could wait, and the ones that could not. Totally awesome experience. They are big on stressing regular maintenance and at Harry's which it is very affordable and can save you thousands of dollars over the life of your car, especially an import that can be costly to repair (if you use the RIGHT parts) and Harry's does, Volvo parts for Volvos. That being said they are still so AFFORDABLE even with something major, I don't know how they do it. The turn around time for repairs is also amazingly quick. It's a family run and owned business and I cannot say enough good things about Harry's. Bring your car here, but especially bring your Volvo, BMW, Audi or Volkswagon. You will not be sorry. It can be hard to know if you are being ripped off when getting your car fixed. I've been very happy with them the several times I have brought my van to them. What really impressed me was that yesterday when I had a bad flat (big nail in my tire) I was fully prepared to buy a new tire and maybe even a whole new set of tires if they thought it was necessary. They told me that because of the placement of the nail that all I needed was a plug in the hole. I have never had an auto shop suggest that. They have always tried to sell me new tires. I also needed an inspection. All in all the whole thing cost under $60 -inspection for my 3+ year old van and the repaired tire. They put my spare back under my van, and even checked the air in all my tires and spare without my needing to ask. All under an hour! They would have made a lot more money off of me if they had just told me my tire was shot. I really appreciate their honesty. read more

I have taken my car to Harry's for many years and in the early days, when Harry did much of the work, I was quite happy, but in recent years, as the younger fellows took over, everything costs more and does not always get fixed. A check engine light leads to a $700 repair at inspection time two years in a row; I finally had to go to another shop to get it fixed, for $140. My fairly new calipers and rotors were replaced, again at inspection time, instead of installing new pads. Where Harry used to diagnose and repair, these boys throw expensive new parts at you, which may be fine on a new car, but not for me. I like them but I can't afford them. read more

Restaurants lose chefs, bartenders leave our favoirite spot, so consistent service seems pretty allusive in the neighborhood these days. After several years, I still go to Harrys when my Toyota needs maintenance and service is rock solid. One of the best experiences servicing your car you can have with good, honest, friendly people, every single time. They just gave me a great deal on tires and installed them the right way tires should be installed with care and precision. A couple weeks ago they replaced my tail light bulb and checked an indicator on a minus 20 degree morning with a smile. After all this time these guys have made sure that my car runs great [and safe] and it is because these guys love what they do and actually care about customers. I found Harry's Auto Shop on Yelp based on the positive reviews. After our first visit, this place became the only shop we go to for all our car issues. Harry's is a small mom and pop style shop with honest work ethics, fast turn around time and just the nicest staff. My main mechanic Kevin and I are on text message basis. Kevin is always there to answer my questions, always offered the most direct answers and solutions. There is something wonderful about being on first name basis with a trustworthy shop and auto mechanics. From our old 2006 Toyota Matrix to our current 2014 Subaru Forester, Kevin and Harry's crew has always taken a great care of our car and it always came back fixed, on time and clean (they wash your car after repair). Finding a good auto shop is super important and I wouldn't look further than Harry's. These guys are warm, straight shooters, honest and know what they are doing. I'm confident writing this review after several experiences with Harry's now (I have an aging 1999 hand me down car so little things do pop up with some regularity). I first found them via good Yelp reviews as well as a personal recommendation from a friend who had good experiences with Harry's. They are also conveniently located in my neighborhood. I have dealt mostly with Kevin though also with Harry himself and others, and what I have found is that I can trust I will get a cautious and conservative assessment that doesn't force to spend more than I'm comfortable yet addresses the problem at hand. I've never been pressured to do something that they admit might not be necessary or fix the problem, and have answered any questions I've had. I try and do my research as well and ask friends and family who are knowledgeable whenever any car trouble arises and I feel like I've gotten a really fair and accurate pricing and service from Harry's. MAJOR added bonuses: - quick- they are super efficient. The whole garage likes to get things done quick and not have cars lingering. Turn around has been amazing, from a simple battery replacement to more involved transmission work. - availability- I feel really comfortable contacting the guys at Harry's, even on weekends, when they are often working beyond their stated hours. They are always gracious-- even when I bug them on a Sunday morning! read more

An honest mechanic is hard to find. These guys just changed a fuse for me and charged me nothing on a job I had been told (by another mechanic) was a full heater motor job. The only reason I wouldn't recommend them is to make sure they don't get too busy for me to get my car in! read more

Harry's is the real deal. I've got a 2001 Saab and it can be a real pain to get fixed since it's so dense under the hood you have to take a bunch of things apart to get at the issue, plus parts can be difficult to find, especially since the manufacturer closed it's doors. So while some Saab owners will swear by their "Saab Guy", I think the true mark of an excellent mechanic is someone who can work on multiple cars and actually troubleshoot the issues rather than relying solely on a diagnostic read. Harry's has got those guys. It's not always fast or cheap, which certainly isn't a reflection on the service shop's abilities, but it ALWAYS gets done right. I've just moved to Portland from NYC. I went to Kevin with an older Volvo asking about what work I needed to have done in order to safely make the journey. He gave me honest feedback about what absolutely needed to be done, and also what could be done but wasn't mandatory. He was articulate in telling me exactly why and all of what he said was sensible; he spoke in a way that was easy for me to understand--NOT esoteric and seemingly tricky. He was matter of fact and, due to his nature, I believed him. He did great work. I felt confident upon hitting the road. I should say here that I safely made it to Portland (some 5250 miles later) in a twenty-year old car, with no issues along the way. I attribute much of this to Kevin and his crew's work. He went beyond by promptly responding to my texting him in Texas, about minor (simply naïve on my part) questions about how to go about adding fluids to my car's engine. I'm a worrier.
