We just had high quality Masland carpet installed in our living room by Harry's Carpets. The workmen were excellent and they moved all the heavier furniture (we cleared out the knick-knacks, lamps, etc). They also moved the television (MOST of the other vendors will not touch ANYTHING electronic, including power recliners!!). The workmanship is perfect and the installers were very willing and cooperative in handling any special requests--courteously. (Half our time with Home Depot's estimator was him telling us what they would NOT move--even telling us to take our pictured down and remove the class from the china cabinets!!) We saw the back of him in a hurry! Harry handles every carpet manufacturer under the sun--lots of choices--and he got free samples to us quickly. ...didn't charge anything to come and give an estimate, either, unlike all the other vendors. Harry's price was very competitive but more importantly he and his office manager, Larry Speer, gave us lots of good advice and an education in how to pick an appropriate carpet. We originally wanted a very deep carpet but Larry told us that my Wife would have trouble with it because she uses a walker. Harry and Larry are 100% honest and forthright and, frankly, a pleasure to know. I'm sure that IF there was a problem in the future Harry would not run and hide--he will take good care of his customers. It is great to patronize a small local business. Harry went the extra mile when it was time for my interior design client's game room carpet to be installed. At first she did not want him to install around the pool table and not move it since it was a special concrete top and very heavy base. Harry did not think that would be the best solution, so he went over the week before to see the table and then did some research about the pool table. He informed me that he had researched the pool table and felt confident about moving it correctly, installing the carpet correctly, and moving the pool table back to it's original placement. His team did a wonderful job! The client is so happy that he went the extra mile to do the research and install the carpet normally instead of how she first wanted it done. Absolutely horrible service & poor craftsmanship. Harry sold me on a laminate flooring, fake wood, promising a 30 year care free product. Being that it was going in a rental, I thought great. After 6 months the flooring separated from itself leaving 4 in gaps? The laminate flooring was so poorly installed the installers neglected to remove the baseboard. Instead butting the laminate against the older baseboard? Any amateur could do better. The flooring began to separate & create gaps. Don't make the same mistake & use this rip off artist. Not only selling me a cheap & disastrous product, but the horrible install as well. Harry is a snake oil salesman don't get bit by this trickster & dishonest business. We had a great experience with Harry's Carpet! We chose them initially based on price, they had the same carpet as other shops in our area who charged 3 times as much. Based on our experience we will definitely use them again... Harry discussed options with us and explained pros and cons of various materials, the installer was very professional - (he even arrived early!) and did a flawless job installing a runner on our front stairs. We recently completed a remodel and the carpet was the final piece. Throughout the process we encountered so many "challenging" vendors who seem to be trying to nickel and dime you along the way and just don't care about providing good customer service. Harry seems like a very lazy person I discussed with him about getting in touch with me urgently as I needed my carpets changed he told me he would get in touch with me the following day never did they day after that never did basically lead me on until gave me false dates of coming to my house to check the carpeting and then finally asking to compare prices with his previous competition and out of laziness denied me service all this could have been done in a day without him having to come I knew my room measurements what carpet I wanted however it took 3 days . DO NOT use this company... if you care about quality customer service and decorum. Excited about my new hardwood flooring, I called to get an estimate for installation. As soon as the owner heard that I did not also need to buy wood flooring because I already had, his tone changed dramatically. The owner called me "Sweetie" in an unmistakeably pejorative tone, said that my questions were "annoying," and hung up on me. In an effort to give the business to a small local company, we hired them to install carpeting and wall base in a commercial office space. The work was sloppy with no attention to detail. We had to call him back three times to fix the gaps, uneven wall base, glue spots left on the carpet & wall and to fix two of the doors that they had removed and not rehung properly. All he seemed to care about was getting paid (and no discount was offered at all.) At one point he told us that we were pointing out things that he normally "gets away with". I needed to match the engineered wood flooring I installed in my condo 6 years ago; Harry's Carpets offered that brand/style, so I dropped by to see him. Harry helped me find several quality brands that offered a match, and sent me home with samples to review. Then we talked about my issues with uneven, poorly installed tile in my master dressing room and bath. Harry listened, and suggested a solution much better than the sheet vinyl I thought was my only real option. Again, sent me home with several samples. He really knew and understood his products, and listened thoughtfully to what my needs and concerns are. He is quite frank and open about discussing materials. He visited my home and we talked about the installation choices and solutions; he knew exactly how to solve the uneven floor problem. His crew arrived right on time, was quiet and courteous, cleaned up as they went along, and left the site clean and hazard-free when they left at night. They also clearly knew their trade, and were helpful in moving some furniture for me. When there was a question, the foreman respectfully explained, and asked for guidance. On one point, I sent him back to Harry for an answer, and Harry called him right back, and showed up later to check in on progress and confirm the job. There was one tiny punch list item I called on at end of day, and the foreman was back at 8am next day, to fix it. No problem. The new floors look absolutely gorgeous, the workmanship is top notch, and I'm very happy with the results. Glad I found Harry's Carpets. Even though there was no 'carpet' in the project! I went to Harry's shop in Burlingame. Their staff was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I chose some colors, they sent me larger samples to make it easier to find the right color. I can't say enough about how easy they made the whole process. They were clear about the price. Like swe, I wanted to use a smaller business. This turned out to be a catastrophe with little supervision of inexperienced labor, failure to complete the job on time, and poor workmanship. PLEASE NOTE ADDENDUM After my parents had passed I decided to sub-let my Townhouse and move back home. I grew up in this house and the carpet had been here longer than me. I drove down the hill to the big box store and checked out the carpet. Huge selection to choose from but the staff was either pre-occupied or with someone else. While waiting I Googled "flooring" and Harry's Carpets was one of the listed stores. I phoned Harry's Carpets and spoke to Harry about my project. He asked some qualifying questions then invited me to his location in Burlingame. After I let my girlfriend run loose in his showroom she picked a Mohawk carpet called Smartstrand Silk. We scheduled a visit for the next day for Harry to come measure our home. That same afternoon I received a quote and I inked the deal. The home is quite large and it took him 2 days to complete the upper floors and 1 day to complete to main floor. Harry was on time everyday and was always considerate and left everything tidy. My dad would always quote, "In this world, you get what you pay for". I am not a price conscious person but more focused on quality of service, and at Harry's Carpets I got what I paid for. EDIT TO POSTING: I posted this then noticed the previous, front page, one star reviews. I also noticed the dates of the postings, 2008? 2009?. I opened the "filtered" reviews (below) and discovered that all of the 4 and 5 star reviews are hidden from public view with dates of 2010 & 2011. Is this extortion? Patronize this fly-by-night operation AT YOUR OWN RISK. This company is unreliable and worse, untrustworthy. After speaking directly to the owner, Harry Sellers, and getting two firm quotes over the phone, I went to their shop to place the order. After looking at the exact carpet sample of the name/manufacturer/style Harry mentioned during our initial phone call, I proceeded to try to place an order using the price quoted. The young woman "assisting" us flatly said that the price quoted was wrong. I mentioned my conversation with Harry and she reluctantly offered to phone him for clarification upon my insistence. Harry remembered our conversation (it was just from the day before) and instructed his employee to honor the price quoted. I thus placed my order and paid for it in full. The woman confirmed that this order would arrive within a week or so. After two weeks with no word from Harry or the woman, I re-contacted them and was rudely advised that the order was never placed. Their weak explanation was that they simply didn't want to honor their quoted price -- the one that appears on my paid order written by them! While these incidents were bad enough, I'm now unable to get my full credit card refund from Harry's. I am reporting this shifty company to the BBB and if my full refund is not immediately forthcoming, will take legal action. Save yourself from a similar horror story and avoid this company. read more
