I had such a great experience at Bay Area Flooring Design. I'm installing flooring for the first time and got stuck with an uneven area that needed a bit of underlayment. Lori, the owner, took the time to diagnose the issue and walk me through the solution. Most places would have charged me for a full roll, but Lori was so kind -- she cut me just the small piece I needed (plus a little extra) and wouldn't even take payment, even when I offered. That generosity and honesty is rare. Her staff, Sam and Samantha, were also extremely friendly and made me feel like I was part of a family business. Lori has been in flooring for decades, and you can tell -- she shared nuggets of wisdom I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else, all free of charge. Stopped in yesterday to look at flooring and carpeting materials for a remodel. A good friend had recommended them as they shopped around a slew of stores as they redid their house with Luxury Vinyl Planks and said this had a ton of selections. It beat running around town. Bryan greeted us and we told him what we were planning on doing so he showed us options for both LVP and carpeting. He explained what the trends were as far as color choices, what would open up a space, tactile qualities for certain materials, cost-cutting solutions, different carpet pads, etc. It really narrowed down our choices in a very straightforward way. The store has a lot of materials and designers to help you out for even cabinetry. Bryan gave us samples to take home to put in our space and scheduled a time to measure the next morning. He came out, looked at the space, measured and explained options. We even received a quote a within a couple of hours! For now, I am impressed with the customer service from store service, timely follow-thru, professionalism and options for our project. read more

I think the Sales staff is great; they are knowledgeable and easy-to-talk to. They seem to want your business and eager to get it. For example, before we were even ready to order flooring, a Salesperson already went to the job site and provided a quote about six months before planned installation. Everything kind of went downhill from there though. 1 star off: We were told to sign the contract and put down the deposit right away, because prices will go up soon. We did, but then kept getting calls asking us to schedule the floor installation. Construction projects rarely go as scheduled, and we really did not know the exact date six months in advance. We should not have been pressured into placing the order way early if Bay Area Floors was not okay with a lucid installation date. 1 star off: Bay Area Floors charges milestone payments, which is standard business practice, but they do not notify the customer before the milestone payment is actually charged. We placed a very large order (~$25,000), so a quarter of that is still a large amount to be charged on a credit card on a whim. Because of this, we unknowingly had our credit card maxed out at various times. 1 star off: When we were finally ready to install our flooring, the installer noticed there were some bumpy areas that needed to be smoothed out. We paid extra ~$1,000 to have that done. After all the flooring went in, I still noticed the bumps. I contacted the owner, Lori, about it and she told me we must have a foundation problem. Why am I just hearing about this after the flooring has been installed? She wanted to be nice and ask a general contractor to look at our house. Fine, but she never followed up with it. I kept bugging her when this general contractor will come and it took many months. After the general contractor finally came, he did not give me a definitive answer and told me he will follow up with Lori. I never heard from neither of them again. At that point, the materials for our flooring were discontinued, I had paid for the extra $1,000, and my floors were still not smooth. 1 star off: I have to say the strangest thing about working with Bay Area Floors is that the installer installed our floors on a *wall*! I have no idea why they did that. Of course, I eventually asked them to remove that from my wall... Update: After I posted my review, the owner contacted both my husband and me and threatened to file a defamation lawsuit. Actually, the reason I decided to review Bay Area Floors is because the company kept sending me E-mails asking me to review! So I did. I will not allow my freedom of speech to be threatened, but I do want to highlight that Lori did make an effort to respond to my review. Regarding the payments, Lori stated that we signed a contact for milestone payments, and I explained that we agreed to milestone payments, but needed a heads-up right before each large charge is made. She stated that our wishes were not in our files and she will reprimand our salesman for this. I replied that it is highly unnecessary to reprimand an employee for this. Regarding the persistent bumpy areas, she explained that she did us a favor by asking another general contractor to take a look. However, I explained that while we appreciated this extra effort, the timing was so delayed that our materials had been discontinued and this favor unfortunately did not result in a better outcome. Regarding installing the floors on our wall, Lori explained that those were wood pieces that were temporarily installed to hold up the stair noses; thank you, that makes more sense now, but it was odd that this was not explained to us at installation. Overall, here is the feedback I like to provide Bay Area Floors and hope that this has been a productive learning experience for all: 1) Customer experience is so important in building and sustaining a business. Soliciting reviews and then threatening to file a defamation lawsuit does not improve the customer experience, especially if the customer already had a poor experience to begin with. I do appreciate Lori's effort to reach out to me after my above review though. 2) Sometimes spending too much time fine-tuning some part of the project does not result in the best possible outcome for the customer. It was nice of Lori to have another general contractor come and look at our project, but since so much time has passed without any follow-up, the effort did not improve the outcome one bit. 3) We are all human beings and hiccups happen. Even if our salesman forgot to put in our file that we like to be notified when our credit card is charged, reprimanding him is not the solution. He is still a good salesman. 4) Do not over-react to negative feedback, as all companies receive bad reviews sometimes. Be humble, learn some key points, and move on. I stand by the truths and opinions in this review, and I welcome the owner to respond to this review with her side of the story. read more

I have used Bay Area Floors and Design (BAFD) twice for flooring needs in my condo, once to install Luxury Vinyl Tile and second, to install carpet. Both times were a great experience. This review will focus on my most recent carpet installation. I was extremely satisfied with BAFD's customer service (Lori & Jackie), the installation process (Vincent and his wife) and the quality of the materials (linear pattern carpet and pad). My condo's HOA has strict policies in regards to modifications done within units and BAFD did an impeccable job dealing with my HOA by providing proper license and insurance documentation. In regards to Vincent and his wife, they were friendly, on time, efficient and knowledgeable in their craft. They took extreme care when moving my furniture around, which was not an easy task in some of the rooms. There were no hiccups with the installation. They just finished my whole downstairs flooring yesterday! The job was to replace existing carpets with waterproof wood-looking floor. I don't remember the name of the materials, but gosh they looked great! We walked into the store a couple of months ago, looked at a few different options. To give you a little background of our project. Our downstairs was FLOODED! Stephen explained different materials to us, and came to our house for an in home consultation the next day. He emailed us a quote a week later, and we have decided to sign. The materials we chose was special ordered. It took about 3 weeks to come. Then the owner Lori called (and emailed)and scheduled our project for installation. Luis's crew came on Monday morning right at 8:30, they worked until 4pm. A full day of work, no cutting corners! Initially Lori estimates the job would take 4 days but guess what?! They finished in TWO days! I'm very happy with them and would recommend them to all my families and friends! My favorite part of their crew is they cleaned up after they are done! Left no mess behind! Our kitchen is next, Stephen is going to bing in a special installer to look at the job. We were tying to buy new carpet for our cabin since they are part network and Taylor did a fantastic job. Unfortunately, the other company would not allow us to purchase from this location and have it delivered to them. Taylor was very understanding and gave the details to the other network carpet company even though she didn't get the commission. After a decent install, I called these guys to come out and fix the large dents and scratch marks left by the installers. They also removed a threshold that I wanted them to bring back and reinstall. Three times we followed up-never resolved the issue, and they stopped responding after the second follow up. This was many months ago. Unprofessional and disappointing. read more

I had a poor experience trying to simply get a bid to fix a botched job. They came to the house, promised a quote and then didn't provide one. When I inquired about the quote I was told by the gentlemen who came to my house to call them back. I left 4 messages that day, no reply. The next day I got a call from the owner saying the guy who botched my job (in reality my contractor was to blame) did it as a side job but works for them. She said he wouldn't come back to my house so they couldn't do the job. Now, they sub out install to many people so why would it matter if the one guy didn't want to fix his own job? Strange. Later in the conversation the owner said she would speak to installer again and her back to me the next day. The next day she didn't get back to me so I called them. A day later she texted me a bid amount and said they would follow up with a written bid. Three days later and....you guessed it, nothing. I called again today and was told to wait for a call back. Again, nothing. They consistently failed to do what they said they would do. The link to my job and one specific installer never made sense. In the end, nothing added up and absolutely zero respect was shown for my time and situation. I couldn't imagine being beholden to them to actually do the job or handling issues that might arise. read more

Lia was extremely helpful in picking out a selection of tiles for our kitchen, letting us take various boards home to see how they looked 'in situ' and then ordering samples of our final selections. They have a great selection of tiles and she was very helpful in steering us to various options. We decided to ask BAF to quote for the whole job - supply, install, etc. They measured that area as 32sqft - not huge and then quoted a little over $1200 for the labor and materials (excluding the tiles themselves)! This was almost $500 than the 2 competing quotes I got and they absolutely refused to discount the quote! Recommend for the selection BUT do NOT get BAF to install for you as you will be ripped off! read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! My husband and I needed to replace carpeting on the stairs in our new home and went to Bay Area Floors & Design because it was close by and had decent reviews. I totally regret making this decision. this was our first mistake. We got a quote for prefinished hardwood installation also, but decided against it. the instant we told them that we were going with someone else for the hardwood floors, the nightmare started. . . once they realized that there were not going to make much from the carpet installation alone, they started to blow us off!!! The installers showed up 45minutes late and brought the wrong padding for the carpet. I called up Lia (sales person), and she told me that they would fix this. I unfortunately had to go to work and left the installers alone. 3rd mistake. I came back home after work and realized that there where large gaps between the stairs and carpet. I COULD ALMOST PUT MY ENTIRE HAND IN THE GAPS. Every step was like this. also there the INSTALLERS LEFT THE OLD STAPLES AND SHARP PINS IN PLACE. It took pictures and emailed them to Lori (owner). After she looked at them, she said that this was NORMAL. the carpeting was installed in a "waterfall" style and it was suppose to be this way. when I told her that old carpet wasn't like this and the carpet hugged each stair like a second skin, she said that the prior style must have been "Hollywood". She said because I didn't tell them before hand which style I wanted it was up to the installers. I told her that wasn't informed of the options, but I told them to make it look like the existing carpet. Lori said that she will check with the installers and get back to me. 5 business days later, still no word from the owner, so I called Lori. She stated that she had been gone all week because of family emergency. She sounded annoyed that I called to checkup and not a single "I'm sorry". She still maintained that there were nothing wrong with the installation, but as a courtesy she will have the installers come and take a look. The operational manager, Matt called to schedule the installers to come out. He said that if I want the carpet reinstalled the "Hollywood style", I would have to pay an additional $100. we had already paid them $800; I wasn't about to give them any more money. I asked them to just come out remove the sharp pins/staples and tighten the gaps. In the meanwhile I discovered that the carpeting on the landing was loose also and in fact was coming up. I could easy lift the edge of the carpet and lift it up. I just wanted the carpet safe for people to walk on. I don't wear shoes in the house and just worried that my family or I would step on a staples or pins. The installers came back and removed the pins/staples and tried to fix the gaps the best they could. But the carpet still looks BAD. I would never use them again. before the installers left, they had me sign a release of further obligation form. this was a clear sign that Lori and Bay Area Floors didn't want to hear from me again. I have worked with 3 different contractors for other jobs in my new home and I have never had this kind of experience. Yes, hiccups occur but the other contractors were willing to work with me and didn't make me feel like they were doing you a favor. My little home project was looking for hardwood floors to replace the aging linoleum in my kitchen. (Yes, you read that right... yucky linoleum) I had probably gone through a million different wood samples, colors, kinds, etc. to finally settle on a decision. I have to say that this store has a decent selection to choose from including the cheaper to more expensive. I finally settled on a stained maple from Mirage and they even upgraded the quality for free. Not too shabby and from a very reputable name in floors. The end result was very satisfying and I was very happy. I would step back and stare at my floors and beam with pride. Although with hardwood, you'll always be mortified when you get your first scratch, dent, etc. It's like the feeling you get when you get your first door dink on your new car. I wish I did more of my place in hardwood but I was a little hesitant not having had any experience caring for hardwood before. But, it speaks of my satisfaction with the whole project. The contractor that the store actually hooked me up with was very professional. They ripped everything out and installed everything very quickly and efficiently. I only took off a star because it's probably not the best deal on hardwood floors that you could find, but the service, scheduling, and overall experience was very satisfying. read more

Bay Area Floors has now replaced almost all the floors in my house, and they are wonderful. Stephen was very helpful while we were picking out what we wanted, and was a pleasure to work with. I can't remember the name of the man who installed our tile, but he & his wife were great! There were many obstacles on that job, but they got it done and did a great job.
