    new carpet, beautifully installed
    Marshall Y.

replaced the old carpet in our bedrooms with new carpet from their nearly overwhelming selection of carpets jackie was good about getting us answers quickly lori helped us think through what kind of carpet to get - what kind of colors would fit the interior we wanted, what kind of density would fit our preference. allowed us to take home samples so we could compare in the actual space our own indecision caused us to order carpet we ended up not using - they aren't able to sell it but were willing to turn them into rugs very happy with workmanship and attention to detail with the actual carpet installation. the carpet is dense, the pad underneath feels solid -- each edge and corner is flush and neat even in the closets

The installer installed our flooring onto the *wall*! So confused.

I think the Sales staff is great; they are knowledgeable and easy-to-talk to. They seem to want your business and eager to get it. For example, before we were even ready to order flooring, a Salesperson already went to the job site and provided a quote about six months before planned installation. Everything kind of went downhill from there though. 1 star off: We were told to sign the contract and put down the deposit right away, because prices will go up soon. We did, but then kept getting calls asking us to schedule the floor installation. Construction projects rarely go as scheduled, and we really did not know the exact date six months in advance. We should not have been pressured into placing the order way early if Bay Area Floors was not okay with a lucid installation date. 1 star off: Bay Area Floors charges milestone payments, which is standard business practice, but they do not notify the customer before the milestone payment is actually charged. We placed a very large order (~$25,000), so a quarter of that is still a large amount to be charged on a credit card on a whim. Because of this, we unknowingly had our credit card maxed out at various times. 1 star off: When we were finally ready to install our flooring, the installer noticed there were some bumpy areas that needed to be smoothed out. We paid extra ~$1,000 to have that done. After all the flooring went in, I still noticed the bumps. I contacted the owner, Lori, about it and she told me we must have a foundation problem. Why am I just hearing about this after the flooring has been installed? She wanted to be nice and ask a general contractor to look at our house. Fine, but she never followed up with it. I kept bugging her when this general contractor will come and it took many months. After the general contractor finally came, he did not give me a definitive answer and told me he will follow up with Lori. I never heard from neither of them again. At that point, the materials for our flooring were discontinued, I had paid for the extra $1,000, and my floors were still not smooth. 1 star off: I have to say the strangest thing about working with Bay Area Floors is that the installer installed our floors on a *wall*! I have no idea why they did that. Of course, I eventually asked them to remove that from my wall... Update: After I posted my review, the owner contacted both my husband and me and threatened to file a defamation lawsuit. Actually, the reason I decided to review Bay Area Floors is because the company kept sending me E-mails asking me to review! So I did. I will not allow my freedom of speech to be threatened, but I do want to highlight that Lori did make an effort to respond to my review. Regarding the payments, Lori stated that we signed a contact for milestone payments, and I explained that we agreed to milestone payments, but needed a heads-up right before each large charge is made. She stated that our wishes were not in our files and she will reprimand our salesman for this. I replied that it is highly unnecessary to reprimand an employee for this. Regarding the persistent bumpy areas, she explained that she did us a favor by asking another general contractor to take a look. However, I explained that while we appreciated this extra effort, the timing was so delayed that our materials had been discontinued and this favor unfortunately did not result in a better outcome. Regarding installing the floors on our wall, Lori explained that those were wood pieces that were temporarily installed to hold up the stair noses; thank you, that makes more sense now, but it was odd that this was not explained to us at installation. Overall, here is the feedback I like to provide Bay Area Floors and hope that this has been a productive learning experience for all: 1) Customer experience is so important in building and sustaining a business. Soliciting reviews and then threatening to file a defamation lawsuit does not improve the customer experience, especially if the customer already had a poor experience to begin with. I do appreciate Lori's effort to reach out to me after my above review though. 2) Sometimes spending too much time fine-tuning some part of the project does not result in the best possible outcome for the customer. It was nice of Lori to have another general contractor come and look at our project, but since so much time has passed without any follow-up, the effort did not improve the outcome one bit. 3) We are all human beings and hiccups happen. Even if our salesman forgot to put in our file that we like to be notified when our credit card is charged, reprimanding him is not the solution. He is still a good salesman. 4) Do not over-react to negative feedback, as all companies receive bad reviews sometimes. Be humble, learn some key points, and move on. I stand by the truths and opinions in this review, and I welcome the owner to respond to this review with her side of the story.

I have been using Bay Area Floors for years and couldn't ask for better service or products. Jackie and her team have been terrific to work with!

Old and new carpet on stairs.

I have used Bay Area Floors and Design (BAFD) twice for flooring needs in my condo, once to install Luxury Vinyl Tile and second, to install carpet. Both times were a great experience. This review will focus on my most recent carpet installation. I was extremely satisfied with BAFD's customer service (Lori & Jackie), the installation process (Vincent and his wife) and the quality of the materials (linear pattern carpet and pad). My condo's HOA has strict policies in regards to modifications done within units and BAFD did an impeccable job dealing with my HOA by providing proper license and insurance documentation. In regards to Vincent and his wife, they were friendly, on time, efficient and knowledgeable in their craft. They took extreme care when moving my furniture around, which was not an easy task in some of the rooms. There were no hiccups with the installation. Lori, the owner, has done a wonderful job employing competent people for her company. Thanks Lori! I highly recommend BAFD for your flooring needs.

Our job consisted of pulling up rooms of old carpet as well as an old kitchen hardwood floor, and replacing it all with 3/4" engineered wood from a Canadian company called Mirage. Elite's quote for materials and labor was not the most expensive nor the least, but when going through our house, Aleksey thought of questions, spotted issues, AND thought of solutions that no one else had asked about or even noticed. He was also the only one who told us that he could carefully remove our elaborate wooden baseboards without breaking most or all of them. Every other place simply said we would likely need to replace it all. As a result, their pricing was actually lower than anyone else if you take into account the cost we saved by not having to replace one single piece of baseboard. He was meticulous, measuring three times before ordering materials just to make sure he got the numbers right. Installation went smoothly and included work like grinding down areas of our foundation that were not smooth, moisture testing, coating of the slab with a moisture barrier, etc. They also made sure they installed the wood in a manner that will allow the kitchen appliances to be removed without damaging the floor, when the time comes that they need to be replaced. Again, no one else we spoke with even mentioned any of this. There were transitions between floorings of some rooms that were at different heights. For some of the areas, Aleksey did not care for the off the shelf transitions that companies sell. Instead, he and his crew crafted their own transition pieces & thresholds that looked beautiful and did the job. Far more elegant and unintrusive. They did the same for the transitions between stone surrounding fireplaces and one bathroom. Everything was carefully thought through. They were professional, knowledgeable, friendly, polite and cleaned up after themselves. Communication with Aleksey was always good. Elite Hardwood & Flooring is not simply an installation company. Other installers took one look at the floors and immediately started raising their quotes by two or three-fold. I get it, with 15+ years of student tenant wear and tear, this was not going to be an easy job in the slightest. However, Long, to his credit, did not try and take me or my mother for a ride for his own financial gain. Not only did his quote come in the lowest of all of them, he was also able to start the soonest. He finished in exactly the amount of time he quoted and made these extremely beaten up floors look brand new. His restoration work made all the difference when we put the house back on the rental market. We were able to attract a whole category of kind of tenant. Fingers crossed, the much less destructive kind. We have since asked him back to lay down vinyl flooring and he did an impeccable job. Will gladly call him again for all future work we need. He does excellent work, is great at communicating, and an all around lovely guy!

This is a very delayed review- I had my hardwood floors redone by Peninsula Floors last year, but I…read morestill find myself thinking about the experience so I decided it might be helpful to others to share. The bottom line is that the bulk of the work was good, I'm overall satisfied with the results, and am glad that we got the floors refinished. However, there were several details about the experience that would make me hesitate to recommend Peninsula to friends or others looking to redo their floors. - I was initially quoted ~7-8 working days to redo the floors. The initial work actually took closer to 13 working days, and it took another 7 working days on top of that to complete followup items after I reviewed the initial work. To be fair, I was traveling for about 5 of those working days during some of the initial work and probably caused a bit of delay in my own responses being slow, but I also don't think that all of the delay was due to myself. - When provided stain samples, I was initially provided the wrong names corresponding to the samples. This was only noticed because I asked for another set of samples in another area of the house and was confused as to why the colors varied so much, and asked about it- otherwise it's very possible I would have selected a completely different color than what I intended. - There was some damage done by the sander to our metal stair railing, which they did patch up with paint, but it's still visible where the damage was. Also, initially only some of the stairs in the home had the scotia trim replaced- when I asked the ones where the previous paint clearly showed they also used to have trim, they just added it to all of the stairs regardless of which ones did or didn't have it before. There was also a tricky area in a closet that I said I would be okay not refinishing, and instead it was sanded but not refinished due to not being able to get into that area- I would have just preferred the initial topcoat wasn't removed in that case, because that area is now just unprotected wood. None of these details were mentioned to me or provided as project updates until I asked about them. - Lastly, after I had sent the final payment through, I realized some of our doorstops were missing after having been removed from the trim to not get in the way of the sanders. I asked where the team may have left them so I could reattach them and got no response. It's not a big deal, they were less than $5, but later, after moving in, I also asked about if there were cleaning/maintenance products they would recommend and also got no response. Being completely ghosted after having dealt with some of the difficulties mentioned above really left me feeling like they totally wrote me off as a customer and was not a pleasant way to end the project. I think they do decent work, but I suspect they're a bit stretched thin and smaller/less important jobs are not supervised as much and don't seem like they have the same quality bar. If I were to do it again, I feel like I would have been happier supervising more closely from the start. Edit- I appreciate Juan's response (below and privately), however I do want to make clear that not everything was addressed as I was told they would be. For example, for the incompletely sanded and unfinished area of the closet I mentioned above, I was told it would at least have some form of finish applied, which never happened. There were a few other details like this, but at some point it was no longer worth my time to chase them down especially as we were getting close to our move in which we initially thought we would have far more buffer for.

Just was wonderful to work with and was very honest and upfront to what the finished product would look like. We agreed the natural color would look best. It took about 10 days and the results were amazing. It turned out way better than my highest expectation. Also need to point out we previously had new 5 inch baseboards installed and virtually no damage to them. They keep us abreast of what the progress was. Juan and his crew are the very definition of professional.
