    Buffet table with five sides
    John E.

This place recently resumed the buffet. At $15.99 per person it is about the same price as several Chinese buffets that have better selections. Fried chicken was old and overcooked. Had to peal off the breading just to eat it. The roasted chicken was swimming in a pool of fat. The sides were bland and tasteless. The only good thing on the buffet were the yeast rolls. We had to ask for butter and knives. In addition you were only permitted two trips to the buffet. Although I cannot imagine why anyone would go back more than twice. There are two good Chinese buffets and at least five chicken restaurants within three miles of this place we will not return.

My fried fish, gizzard and liver here I love it..... 6 Pcs Krispy Fish

Food is always made to order hot and fresh services Fast service never get anything bad the ambience is inside of your . I would go here if you want fish, gizzard, liver or anything that's delicious.

This place..... if I were homeless and someone offered me a FREE meal I wouldn't accept a plate from here!!! This place should be closed!! The workers are very rude and VERY unprofessional. But I'm here to discuss the food. Well for starters the food line was poor presentation, the mash potatoes had been there so long they were orange looking, the bread pudding, mac & cheese, and green beans were ICE cold and the chicken was fried hard. So I decided to try the gizzards, they had no taste, kind of like if you were to eat a clean handkerchief LOL sorry best I could come up with. On top of the food being poor it was leaking water all on the left side of the building and it had a weird mold smell. Would I go back.... YEAH..... when frogs bark!!!

Seafood combo with two spicy wings and okra

The chicken here has been consistently good for years now* The okra is My favorite side and the rolls are like heaven when not over baked hot out the oven.. The buffet is a great concept and offers a variety of items like mac and cheese, green beans, fruit, chicken pieces, tenders, fried fish and more but the only problem is at this location (I've only eaten the buffet at this location) the owner or whoever the lady is that manages this location waits until the pans are bottom dry before changing it out out You'll have to ask for chicken when it runs out which is ok bc it will be fresh but why is She policing the buffet so hard You'll see but it's worth the maybe $10 meal or less with a drink and the kids buffet is like $6 They also have a spicy version but it needs improvement it's overcooked or battered wrong causing it to be dark and dry Fish is sometimes good but the shrimp are best of the sea I wouldn't eat it as the fish is almost suspect Chicken and tenders are good when hot and fresh as well as the livers but I'll take some wings and okra and be happy Make sure You get an extra roll*

They've built a loyal and local following by making comfort food the centerpiece of their many talents (#2). When the food is as tasty as the customer service is friendly, it's hard not to love all they to offer. The shop is so small that seating is non-existent, (#3) thus it's strictly a takeout and delivery establishment. Their display case of hot foods changes throughout the day, depending on availability. Anything after the late afternoon is a huge gamble, so when in doubt, call ahead of time to confirm whether an item is available. I love to pop in just to get a good visual of my choices -- and I've always managed to walk out with something delicious. Of all the items I've tried, there have been standouts across the board. The oxtail, stewed chicken with gravy, smothered rib tips, meat loaf, and their über famous honey glazed wings and meatballs are fabulous. Their sides of dressing, sweet candied yams, mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes make for a perfectly complete meal. Even the cornbread is outstanding, which is really saying something. I'd be remiss not to mention their incredibly underrated desserts. The peach cobbler is fire, pound cake and banana pudding are excellent, and their triple layered German-chocolate cake floored me. It was decadent, a tinge savory, and extremely addicting. The fact they offer catering for every item mentioned above means my future potlucks are going to be next level. When they're ready to open another location in a different part of town, I can only hope it'll be closer to me. Otherwise, it's off to West Oaks when I'm craving a food-coma-worthy treat. ____________ (#1) Except Monday. They're closed. This time I called in an order for tallarines saltados and two whole chickens for my family. They told me it would be ready in an hour, which was fine. When I arrived to pick it up, the owner handed me the food and casually said he replaced my tallarines with lomo saltado -- without asking me first. He said it was "a better choice" and that they were out of tallarines. I told him clearly that I did not want lomo saltado, but he kept insisting, so I just took it to avoid arguing. When we got home, the real problem started -- both chickens were undercooked, tough, and hard to chew. It was so bad that I told my kids and family not to eat any of it, and I ended up throwing everything in the trash. I paid good money for this meal, and we didn't get to eat at all. I mean, I would really like Long John Silvers, if they didn't have so much salt in their batter. And now that the wonderful Scottish fish and chips place in Katy is no longer and the opportunity to drive to Kemah doesn't present itself that often, I like to do searches when places become known to me in Houston. Of course we all know how good the Red Lion is and how good KP's Kitchen is. But there must be more places. Thus my search for fast food or fast, casual options. So today took me to the western part of Westheimer to try a place called Whales Fish and Chicken. Ghibli options are swai, tilapia, catfish, whiting, snapper, grouper. I opted for grouper ( $17.31). I could have done coni or a lunch special but didn't catch those options until after. Combo would be the first three. Lunch special for about $12 would be 1 fish, 5 shrimp, 2 wings. Taste. Cornmeal type batter like for catfish, not a fish and chips batter. Clean, not greasy. Much like that Louisiana Foods batter mix but not as salty. Grouper very clean tasting. Enjoyable. Based on cornmeal batter, I would default to catfish next time. Good remoulade and hot sauces. I liked it. Still in search of a fish and chips batter though. Served with bread but they don't know that, historically, fish would be ON TOP of the bread or toast to catch the frying oil like a paper towel lol. Very friendly staff. I do like Popeyes biscuits, but just one will do me and a nice honey drizzle on that buttery biscuit is bliss, chefs kiss. The only thing I don't like is when they put my individual wings in a combo and I have to check the bag because they will put six biscuits in my bag and I can't eat but one. Best Sliders in Houston - Fresh and Delicious Every Time!…read more I stopped by Chubbies Sliders at 14775 Memorial Dr in Houston's Energy Corridor, and wow, it exceeded all expectations! This spot is a gem for anyone craving perfect little burgers and more - fast-casual done right with a focus on quality. The standout for me is how everything is cooked to order and delivered hot and fresh - no soggy or lukewarm food here! I got the Combo 3 with a mix of sliders: the classic Chubbie (juicy beef patty, grilled onions, American cheese, and that addictive Chubbie sauce), the Rodeo Clown (with bacon, onion ring, and cheddar - pure indulgence), and the Firecracker for a spicy kick. Each one was perfectly seasoned, tender, and bursting with flavor on those soft buns. The crispy fries were spot-on - hot, golden, and nicely salted - and paired amazingly with the sliders. I also tried the house-breaded chicken tenders, which were crunchy outside and juicy inside. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the whole meal hit the spot without feeling heavy. The place is clean, the staff is super friendly and efficient (even during a busy lunch rush), and it's great for takeout or a quick bite. Mostly carry-out vibe with a few seats, but that's perfect for the fresh-made focus. Chubbies has quickly become my go-to for sliders in Houston. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and try it - you won't be disappointed! Highly recommend!

Interesting…read moreconcept, as the only other slider "restaurant" that comes to mind is White Castle, to which I haven't been so cannot speak to how this compares. I placed an online order - it quoted my food to be ready in 15 minutes but I got the text that it was ready in just 7 minutes. Fast service! When you pull up, it's a bit hidden in the strip center so keep an eye out for the Chubbies sign or you might unknowingly drive past. The restaurant itself is very small with only a few tables for dining in, so I think it's meant to be more of a takeout place. My food was ready for me to pick up on the shelf to the right of the counter. I was able to get additional napkins and ketchup at the adjacent self-serve station. I got the Chubbie and Rodeo Clown sliders with a side of fries. Total came out to just over $11 after tax which is pretty reasonable for lunch. The Chubbie is their classic slider, patty with cheese and diced onions. The Rodeo Clown was a patty with cheese, bacon, and onion ring. These came with a side of their house Chubbie sauce for dipping. I did like the Rodeo Clown much more because of the add-ons for the same price as the Chubbie. Nonetheless, both sliders tasted good and with the side of fries, I was content. I will say that the real deal was a bit of a disappointment compared to the photos they have on their online menu. IRL, the sliders appeared smaller and flatter. The fries were standard straight cut fries served in a paper bag. I do wish that they would have at least put the fries in a cup or butcher paper inside the bag, because all the grease got soaked up in the paper bag and made for a bit of a mess. I hope that this place makes it, as the employee (owner?) working the counter when I came in seemed like a genuine guy who was happy to help. I'd love to try more of their sliders as well as the chicken tenders because I read that these are massive!
