I don't know how this place has such good reviews. I came on a weekday, got pork yakisoba, sushi, and other sorts and everything was not good. The yakisoba was too salty the sushi was boring and tasted bland and whatever my niece got which was rice and some seaweed paper was a waste of money. read more

Full authentic Japanese restaurant, not that silly hibachi business. Sashimi platter was great, octopus was super tender (still not a fan of uni, though it was much, MUCH fresher than the last place I had it). I was totally a sport to give the uni another go given my last horrific experience with it, but this round still evoked the same reaction I think I might have to ingesting a mouth full of slightly rancid pus (seriously, it was all I could do to keep it in last time & tonight wasn't really much better, but it was equally as funny watching me try, or so I'm told). Good enough if you happen to be in the neighborhood, Zagat rated even, but I wouldn't drive any appreciable distance for it. Regrettably, the oshinko isn't house-made like it is at Umaido, and if I ever go back (doubtful, too many others to try) I'd make a point to compare their pork ramen to Umaido's version just to see how it stacks up. Oh, and as a sidenote because I'm not a big stickler for service - slow food begets slow service to some degree, and I'm good with that, I like to pause and linger and savor - but this was ridiculous. Management is terrible. Wait staff is pretty bad too. Normally it is not busy, but when my boyfriend and I went last night it was busy. There was a little bit of a wait but there were plenty of seats available at the sushi bar. I asked the manager behind the hostess counter if we could sit sushi bar. He yelled NO at me and said there was a "wait for the sushi bar". I said even though there are like 4 seats? Then he looked at me and yelled "WHAT?" I was like whatever we are leaving. We are regular customers there and he did not seem concerned to be loosing us at all. Went here today after reading an article about ramen in Atlanta. The article recommended this place as second best in Atlanta because it has all 4 variety of ramen. I tried the one with the creamy broth and pickled vegetables. The broth was very good and the meat was very tender. My husband is Chinese and we eat a lot of pickled vegetables and maybe the Japanese version is different because i though they taster more like fermented or something. Kind of stinky. First time we went there, we really liked this place. Decided to come back and ordered some sashimi in addition to other dishes. One type of fish in our sashimi plate stunk and was obviously rotten. When we mentioned that to the waitress, she offered us to bring another piece of that fish, and we politely declined. She never apologized or lowered our bill in any way. I am sad to write this message for a restaurant that has offered many good memories for me. I have been coming to Haru Ichiban for more than 10 plus years. The overall food quality is no longer what Haru Ichiban is known for. Tonight being a Friday I surely thought I would have to wait for my table. To my surprise the restaurant was not even half full during 7 to 8 pm we were there. My total dinner cost was over $200 not including my 15% gratuity for mediocre service between 3 adults and 1 child without a single drop of alcohol. I wanted to have some of the best items on their menu and have ordered each item accordingly. Starting with Sea Cucumber appetizer and Raw Squid dish; both were less than good and not fresh at all. Various Nigiri Sushi we had were prepared over too much rice and over priced. Mackerel was not properly seasoned or aged to be served. Rolls had too much rice and not enough content in the center from either spicy tuna roll or California roll. Omakase Sashimi plate costing almost $50 did not even have real fresh grated wasabi. Amaebi was not served with ususal fried heads ( probably my fault of not begging for it to be brought) Yellotail collar Broil or Hanachikama was unevenly broiled on the skin and ponzu sauce was not even served or offered and I had to ask for it twice. The Ramen and Udons dishes to wrap up dinner were too salty I had to pour my Greentea to dilute the soup but after nearly two cups poured in it was still salty. Lastly Pork Donkatsu dinner was overcooked and tough to chew. Very concerned and disappointed for the owner as the Chefs are same people behind the sushi counter are who have been there for over 10 years each. Something's get better with age yet apparently that does not seem to be same for Haru Ichiban. I will miss the once upon a time when this place was considered one of the best in Georgia for authentic Japanese dishes. I will forever cherish some of my best memories from Haru Ichiban. I will even miss the voices of the chefs who once upon a time used to loudly shout "irashaimasei" to welcome you and bid you fair well with "Domo Arigato" as the crowed place used to be packed with full of happy and satisfied people. read more

This used to be my favorite place to get fresh sashimi. I went there recently to get a hokkai juu (description on the menu includes salmon, sea urchin, and salmon roe). I didn't want sea urchin and asked for it to be replaced with extra salmon. I was able to do this in the past. However, this time the food came out with only 4 pieces of salmon. I was then told that they no longer put sea urchin in the hokkai juu bowl, and I'd be charged an extra $3 if I wanted sea urchin. Very disappointed. read more

Always great sushi! Our personal favorites are the Alaskan roll and the Hard Ichiban special. Michelle and the staff are always pleasant and greet with warm smiles. The chef's also are excellent with the way they prepare there dishes and are very friendly. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful restaurant close bye. They are very reasonably priced too. Found this place last night because of Yelp. I was looking for a place to have some good kake udon...and this place was on point! My udon was so delicious and flavorful. Had the pleasure of sitting next to a couple that drove all the way from Athens just to have sushi there. They said they have had sushi all over the world, but they have been coming Haru for years. Because of this couple, I got two sushi rolls and they did not disappoint. The rolls were fresh and very tasty!!! The chef asked another customer why they didn't eat one of their items several weeks ago and were worried the customer didn't like it.
