We were going downtown for a concert, craving some sushi and found this place on Yelp. No reservations available, I did check their website where you can be adding to a waitlist, but it stated currently no waitlist and invited us to just arrive at restaurant. We arrived a little after 5pm and the restaurant was mostly empty. But in the next 20 minutes it filled up and there was open sitting at the bar only. The mood was initially quiet but quickly turned more up beat as the restaurant filled and pop rock music was playing. We asked our waiter a few questions about a few of their rolls and he was very helpful with guidance and recommendations. We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. Our favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. We loved the pop the lemon added. Honorable mentions to the Spicy Tuna roll, very well done, excellent balance of heat and flavors. If you work downtown, or near downtown you need to add Harumi lunches into your rotation! The new Harumi, which is directly across from the old one, is huge inside and has a beautiful interior. My favorite lunch special, which is less than $20 comes with Udon & 2 of the signature house rolls. The Udon is a large portion with a ton of flavor in the broth. The AZ Roll is my favorite but you can't go wrong with any of their signature rolls. The purple rice is a staple! Great sushi at pretty good prices. There was a bit of a wait since it was a weekend. I don't believe they take reservations so it's a good idea to get there early. The cocktails were unique, but the sushi stole the show. The interior is trendy, lively, and young. The only other complaint was they only had 2 individual bathrooms so it was a 20 minute wait just to use the restroom. read more

First time here and I was not disappointed. All of the staff were friendly and helped each other run food and refill waters, which isn't something you see much of these days. We were there at around 5pm and it wasn't too busy, but there was a steady flow of diners coming in and out. Seating is ample, with outdoor, bar, sushi bar, and regular table options. I ordered two rolls: hot havana and mango roll. Both were delicious and the mango was juicy! The purple rice was super fun and set them apart from other sushi spots. I also ordered the miso soup to start. The food came out quickly. My only "complaint" is there aren't a ton of classic roll options. But this is a more upscale sushi restaurant, so it isn't surprising. I will keep this place in my list of spots to hit when I'm looking for a bite to eat in DTPHX. read more

Harumi came highly recommended by friends and family who live in town, so it was a must-try when we were visiting AZ over the holidays. There are plenty of nearby parking garages to choose from, and I don't believe they validate. We made a reservation for four adults and one baby for lunch, and we were glad we did because this is a popular spot! Nearly every table was full by the time we were leaving. I started with an iced matcha latte, which may have been one of the best I've ever had! It was smooth, sweet, and lightly frothy. Their lunch specials are an incredible value: you can get so much food for great price! I went with the Udon & Duo, which was $15 for a huge bowl of udon noodle soup and two sushi rolls of your choice from a select menu. Everything was fresh and flavorful - the sushi is made on purple rice which is a fun twist! Our server was so sweet, and they were well equipped and happy to serve a baby, although a very well-behaved baby at that. Their decor is beautiful with a modern boho vibe and soft wood tones that's perfect for a date. We shared a few rolls and also ordered some kid friendly options (plain rice, side of avocado, sweet potato roll, avocado cucumber roll). Our favorite roll was the Hot Havana roll! Must get it if you like yellowtail! Also appreciate that they have a very affordable chef special that is perfect for those on a keto/low carb die. The spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy aioli all seemed to be missing the "spicy." ~ Hen of the woods mushrooms with yuzu sauce and a runny egg yolk was a winner. My partner and I originally chose this place because we heard they light one of the sushi rolls on fire, which immediately sounded like something fun we had to try. Funny enough, this actually wasn't even the exact restaurant my partner had been thinking of when he brought it up, but honestly I'm so glad we ended up here anyway because the food was REALLY good. We ordered the flaming ohmygod sushi roll, and man... it was amazing. Not only was the presentation fun, but the sushi itself actually tasted incredible too, which sometimes isn't the case with more "gimmicky" menu items. It was so good that I literally ordered another roll to-go and took it on the plane back home with me because I already knew I'd be craving it later. That alone should say enough about how much I liked it. I also tried the matcha martini, and it was honestly one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. It had the perfect balance of matcha flavor and alcohol where neither one overpowered the other. Sometimes matcha drinks either taste way too earthy or completely lose the matcha flavor under the alcohol, but this one was super smooth, flavorful, and really well done. The restaurant itself also has a really nice atmosphere. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and the indoor area definitely has a more upscale vibe than your usual sushi spot and that makes the experience feel a little more elevated and perfect for a date night. On top of all that, the servers were super friendly and provided genuinely great service throughout the meal. Everyone was attentive, welcoming, and made the experience feel really comfortable and enjoyable. Overall, this place completely exceeded my expectations. All the dishes are reasonably priced for the quality - this is a gorgeous upscale restaurant in downtown with beautiful dishes to match. I'm going to start off by seconding the common opinion -- the black rice is tasty, but it doesn't make for amazing sushi rice personally, as it does tend to fall apart as soon as soy sauce touches it (even when just picking it up, especially the nigiri). I've been to Harumi before a couple of times before they moved over to this bigger location, and I think the quality has stayed relatively the same. I think what shines here are the unique roll options and the fish quality. The service is also always great, I've always had really friendly servers, and the food comes out super fast (like almost concerningly fast hahaha). This time, my family came for a Sunday night dinner, and there was no wait at all. We shared a couple of rolls, some appetizers and udon. The gyoza was the deep-fried kind, which was good, I think I personally prefer pan-fried. The Oh My God roll is always a hit with people, as it comes with a fun little fire show, but I'm not a huge fan of very saucy rolls so I opted for the nigiri and rainbow roll combo -- which was great value! I didn't love the udon personally, I think there was a lot of pepper or spices that kind of overtook the flavor of the broth. Overall, the sushi itself was solid, appetizers were okay, but my family loves their rolls! My only downside was towards the end of our meal when we waited extremely long for our 2nd round of the wagyu nigiri and our desserts... even the waiters were frustrated with the kitchen because of how backed up/slow it became especially since I suppose the chef came back from break? The ambiance is very classy yet casual, and I believe at 5 pm on the dot, they dim the lights for a more romantic vibe. Great place to take a date! The food as well as the service here is unmatched. From the moment you walk in until you leave, your experience here will be monumental. You are never rushed, the servers are all super friendly and knowledgeable, and if you need anything, you can flag someone down and they'll come right to you. Even the bussers stop and get you whatever you need. The Japanese Caesar Salad has got to be my all-time favorite. It's so unique and the presentation is beautiful! I could eat the whole thing by myself because it's that damn good! I love that they have no rice options like the Oasis Roll which is so satisfying. We ordered the Nigeri Rainbow Roll combo, which was excellent. They use black sushi rice which I had never seen before. We also had the Oasis (kanisu roll), the sunomono salad (delicious but it was almost all cucumbers) and the ahipoke. The fish was very fresh and the dishes were very tasty. A friend recommended this place to me and I decided to try it on a recent work trip into Downtown with some colleagues, and all I can say about this place is WOW! The atmosphere is definitely a bit more upscale, with dim lighting and steady flow of traffic, which I appreciated as opposed to some of the "all you can eat" sushi places around the Valley. The wait staff all works together very collectively and cohesively to ensure a guest experience, and the food is absolutely delicious. The menu all looked so good it was hard to choose, but our server Yosi was awesome and helped us decide with great recommendations. The only downside was the wait (it originally said 35-45 min but ended up being closer to an hour and a half). A little annoying, but once we got seated the food totally made up for it.
