Espresso martini customized to use less syrup; the bartender was very accommodating and crafted a very smooth flavor profile.

We went here when exploring the Hollywood area on a whim and looking for a comfortable lounge bar to end our evening with. Came across this one when searching for recommended lounges, and after passing 2 that weren't the evening vibes we were hoping for, we were very happy to take a chance on this one. The Spare Room is on the mezzanine floor of the Roosevelt hotel, but doesn't require you to be a guest or have reservations (at least we didn't need to when we came on a Monday evening in January). Walking into the lounge, there's a bar followed by a series of couches on the left, great for a date night or drinks after work with friends. Next to the couches are pool tables, they aren't too full when we came in but I wouldn't be surprised if they are popular on busier nights. The bartender was wonderful, easy to have conversations with and she was very accommodating when I asked if she could use less syrup and more coffee in the espresso martini, which was one of the best I've had in a while. Definitely overall has an atmosphere of authentic vibes, welcoming staff, and options to chill, chat, or play some games with friends old or new. There wasn't live music when we came, but the bartender said there often is depending on the night, and we will look forward to coming again soon!

Came here for a work event and it was pretty cool, they have drinks and snacks. Bowling opens at 8pm and it is located inside The Hotel Roosevelt on the second floor. Only valet parking $25 and there is parking structure next to the hotel

Located on the second floor once entering The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. We only ordered drinks, but there was an option to get food as well. Excellent vibes for a group of people, especially if you want to pair drinks with an activity (they have a bowling alley and board games for customer use!). Tannic at the disco: Good combo of white cranberry and citrus! 9/10 Old Fashioned: Well and strong - gets the job done. 9/10 Thunderclap: Good drink if you like a strong ginger taste. 7/10 Goldenback: Delicious and strong. 8/10 Parking: free street parking a couple blocks away

The most beautiful bowling alley I've ever seen I came here for a private party this weekend. I've been to the hotel for other events a handful of times, but have never gone to The Spare Room until now. I'm really not a huge bowling person, but had such a wonderful time here. The aesthetics really make the experience. Everything from the decor to the drink selections feel paused in time. The balls are sleek and simple, with only two lanes that look like they could come out of a Wes Anderson movie. My only wish was that the view wasn't obstructed by covering the massive windows with film. I really enjoyed bowling, and found that I wasn't bad at it! The handsome bowling attendant also gave us all tips and tricks. He was great - knowledgeable and charming, and he kept score the whole time too! I kept drinking the Drag Queen's Gambits all night. I loved the thought of putting sesame oil in a gin cocktail, and it was absolutely delicious. I'll be trying to replicate them at home for my husband and I sometime soon. I had a lemon drop as well that I really enjoyed as a nightcap. Since it's such an intimate venue, I expect that having the whole place to yourself is a better experience than just booking one lane on a random night. That being said I would certainly throw a party here for my husband in the future.

Service: the best bowling service I've ever experienced, really enjoyed the fact that we have someone keeping score on an old school chalkboard. The vibes here are immaculate! Drinks: also top notch! There are only two lanes so super intimate and the vibes are really cosy! Perfect to share a lane among 4-6 people. After bowling they have a board game area with connect 4 and Jenga which is also nice to spend time after a bowling game.

0-3 hours $10 and I was at the spare room which is a restaurant. Why was I told to pay $20 originally? Also when I self parked it?!

Horrible money suckers - had a broken window on my car and was there for one hour on a Monday at 11 pm. I waited for the parking attendant for more than 15 minutes and when I returned to my car, I saw that they had blocked it with a large SUV and were telling me that I need to pay a ridiculous amount of $20. Mind you I had left two notes on my car with my phone number for them to reach me and let me know what the cost of this parking would be and if it is OK that I actually self parked and nobody did. I spoke with the hotel manager and she couldn't do anything about it either and just said that they're going to give you the discounted rate of $10 and there's no way they we would be willing to move the car unless I paid this, like seriously what the fuck?

My boyfriend and I came here for a date night and everything about it was amazing! We will definitely come back for more! If you're looking for a lively but somewhat intimate night with loved ones this is the place for you! The staff was very friendly, professional, and played into the overall vibe/ atmosphere of the secretive place very well. It's located in a gorgeous hotel on Hollywood blvd. It's really refreshing to see that every single one of the staff members were happy and provided great service. That's not always the case in trendy Los Angeles places we've been to before. The two men checking IDs at the door, our hostess Oona seating us at a cute table, and our server were all so pleasant! I didn't grab the servers name but she was a cute brunette girl who was so kind and smiley and helped us choose what games to play from what they offered. I really wish I grabbed her name because she was awesome! They offered mancala, jenga, cards, monopoly, checkers, chess, and much more. The vibe is perfect for a date night, everyone there was having a good time drinking, playing bowling, chatting, or playing games. The ambiance and lighting is very intimate and fun. Our table had a view of Hollywood blvd lights. They offer a good menu of drinks and bites as well while you play. I can't wait to come back for another date night! We will reserve a bowling lane for sure next time.

This place was very cool and unique! Came here for my good friends birthday and had a blast! The service was pretty good. The servers did not come around and bug us like other places would. She made decent recommendations for a group our size and it worked out due to everyone benefiting. The music was pretty good but we didn't have enough space to dance since there were a couple of large groups blocking the walk way. I liked the bowl recommendation a lot! Although it was hella expensive, it was good and worth it. The drinkers in our group were buzzed and stayed that way throughout the night. We didn't get to bowl since the earliest time we could get a lane was 2am! All in all though, this was a great night!! This place is nice for celebrations, catching up with friends and simply drinking.

Lovely bar, and the drinks were great. No issue there. The issue lies where I emailed the reservation system 8 days in advance about reserving a bowling lane - they took 5 days to get back to me, and gave me 2 time slots to pick from. I immediately responded and booked the 10pm slot. Upon arriving, I find my reservation was lost, and there would be no way to bowl that evening (a bit disappointing, considering we had bought a round of drinks and paid for valet already). The manager (?) on duty apologized and said he'd be right back, forgot about us for about 15 minutes, then came back and confirmed we had been replaced for our time slot and apologized with 2 free drink tickets.

Ask the Community - The Spare Room

Does anybody know if it is wheelchair accessible?

What kind of photo booth do they have? Black and white film or a regular color one?

Is this place strictly 21 and over?

    Yes

Is there a charge for a table reservation?

Not when we went. We just had to give an ID to check out a game. (Don't forget to pick it up after so you don't have to go all the way back to Hollywood the next day 😉)

What nights do they have a dj?

Friday and Saturday, not sure about during the week

How much do the games cost???? Bowling and beard games?

I don't know about the board* (haha beard) games but the bowling is $100 with gratuity and tax so it comes out to like $150.

Is it 21+ and over only?

    Yes

Person at the front checked us in and walked us to our table. It was my first time using the Blackbird app and the server (didn't get her name) was super nice and walked me on how to use it (thank you!). We got the fish baos and the unagi "rice ball" to start with. Both great, the bao was really good, the sauce was great, the cilantro gave it the perfect touch. I thought the fish could have been a bit more flavorful but still great. The unagi rice ball was great, just really hard to eat without it falling apart. As for the ramen, we got my favorite, the smoked dashi ramen, and their classic tonkotsu. They also had their OG tonkotsu ramen on a special menu, which is similar to the classic but the main difference being the type of pork meat that they use (pork belly). The smoked dashi ramen was as good as I remembered it, but the classic tonkotstu ramen was tasting a bit better surprisingly. I wish the smoked dashi ramen had the option to choose between clams and pork. For dessert I was really excited to try their banana pudding and also got their matcha kaki-gori (shaved ice). Although the banana pudding was not bad, it was the kaki-gori that blew my mind. The tonchin honey cream sauce was absolutely delicious. The overall texture of the kaki-gori was perfect, not chunky at all. And best of all, this was free thanks to the Blackbird app promotion! (Shameless plug to use my referral code bb-4r9xyi to get you $20). If I had the choice, I'd go with the kaki-gori instead of the pudding if you're only going to have one dessert. I can never go wrong with Tonchin. My absolute favorite ramen spot. Vibes are great, music not too loud, great date spot. I will be back again soon!

Pro tip - order both the Tokyo banana and the matcha kakigori for a unique Macgyver experience and probably my favorite combo here... it is essentially a banana pudding matcha kakigori. Have been here 3x just for the dessert options and the staff were very nice about it. Ambience is casual and dim.

We're very picky on how we like calamari and we all enjoyed it. The branzino was served with potatoes and blanched spinach. The fish was cooked perfectly where it was soft on the inside but nice and crispy on the outside. The potatoes were also seasoned and cooked well however the spinach was slightly salty to our liking. Now the pizza... it was not a margherita pizza, it's just cheese pizza, like you can find anywhere else. The three of us were pretty disappointed so I would recommend getting a different pizza or trying their pasta dishes. Most folks around us seemed to be having pasta dishes. The tiramisu was delicious and a nice way to end dinner. We were very full but was able to make room for it. The service was well, very friendly. My dad asked for a white wine that went with the main course and the server gave a good recommendation. I judge an Italian restaurant by their margherita and it was by far the most disappointing so I'm not sure I'll be back, but if pizza is not your thing, don't let that stop you from giving this place a chance!
