My Wife was physically assaulted by the doorman (Eric) on Monday night when she came in to retrieve a wallet I had left there. Full Context: Came here with my wife and another couple. Everything was fine. Bartender is awesome. We sat at a booth for 2 hrs, paid our bill, then walked to Boardners at 1am. I quickly realized I had no wallet and must've left it at Power House - so walked my way back at around 1:20am. The Door Man, who had previously been a completely chill and nice dude, began screaming at a man behind me to "get the F--- out of here." I turn and see it was a very drunk patron who I recognized had been in the bar earlier. He then turned to me and screamed in my face to also "get the f--- out of here." I came to find out that patron had been kicked out and possibly had altercation with the Door Man Eric. So clearly the Door Man thought I was connected somehow to that random drunk patron. I tried to calmly explain that I did not know that patron and I was only returning because I left my ID/ credit card slim wallet somewhere in the bar. He proceeded to keep shouting that I was lying because they don't hold credit cards there, even though I was saying my entire wallet was somewhere physically in the bar. He then proceeded to say I was too drunk to come in and that I had "bad vibes" and that I was a weirdo and to get the f-- out of here. I continued to try to calmly reason with him, and he suddenly lunged at me as if to attack me - this man has a foot height on me - and I had to jump back off the curb into the street to evade him. I don't like to speculate but I suspect drug use was a factor here. At this point, I pull out my phone and continue to try reasoning - at a distance - but nothing is getting thru - so I go back to Boardners, tell my wife what happened and tell her I need her to try to go in and get my wallet. I followed far enough behind where they he wouldn't see me, but she was in there for a good five minutes, so I got worried. I called her, and then I hear this doorman shouting at my wife. I RUN to the open door where I see him towering over her in aggressive hostility, and I see my WALLET in her hand. We walk away. My wife tells me that they found the wallet where I knew I had left it. When it clicked that this lost wallet must have belonged to me, aka "the weirdo", he told her she was "86'd" there and then called her a "weirdo". When my wife told Eric that she "doesn't come here anyways", he became enraged and grabbed her with both of his arms as if to drag her out. He must've thought better of it and took his arms off when my wife stood called it out, and luckily the bartender was helpful enough to gave up the Door Man's name (hopefully that was an honest answer). I challenge the managers of this bar to review the video footage if there is any that took place outside of the doorway and inside the bar between 1am and 1:45. And to retain that footage. read more

Came here to meet up with a friend on a Tuesday night for some drinks. I liked the overall layout of this bar and how nice it was in the back. What I didn't like was the service. The bartender was so caught up with people he knows or just chatting up with others that it took some time to get a drink. Even for a night where there wasn't that many people at the bar. Service did eventually get better. Ive been to almost all the bars in Hollywood. This one has been around for a while. Worth a quick check out. read more

it was a cute time but beware of keeping a tab open there! they will charge you $25.25 saying it's just a hold on top of your bill but it's been 3 days and i have yet to see the "hold" be released back to my card. maybe i'm unaware of some rule but i have never had this happen to me at any other bar. read more

Bartendress was kind and friendly. It was happy hour on a Monday, one block from the busy intersection on Hollywood and Highland. After a Google search for BEER, we came across this PowerHouse adjacent to a Chinese restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. Good music playing, light bulbs were on at each booth in the City of Lights. Overwhelmingly impressed by how clean the women's restroom was. There were two TP rolls, and one rolls was set under, the other set over. And the sticker on the trash can read: Death to False Metal. The clientele at this time mostly kept to themselves and the booth we sat at was comfy in velvet. If you ever need to stop for ONE BEER while your parking meter time runs, this place is a good choice. read more

My husband & I were just there on Saturday to watch our son's band perform. We loved it immediately. It's small, but that's part of what makes it such a good vibe in there. By the end of the night you're friends with everyone there. The lighting is perfect. Nice and dark. The drinks are delicious. Super reasonably priced to boot! Awesome selection of signature drinks. We had a great time chatting with Kate the bartender. Hi Kate! Both her and Kwame are the bees knees. The cherry on top? There was a long haired in-house chihuahua. Does it get any better? Nope. Powerhouse is my fav Hollywood Bar!!! I've been here maybe like 10 times & I always have a very good time. Divey feel, very chill & dark. I love the music! Not too loud where you have to be screaming while talking to someone & not too quiet to make it boring...it's just perfect! The bartender is so sweet, she is very nice! Makes great mojitos! I love the feel of this place, there are booths available or bar seats...my fav room is in the back, they have a huge Jenga which I always enjoy playing. Everyone is friendly! I have made a couple of Instagram, Snapchat friends here lol :) Located on Hollywood & Highland I highly recommend this bar. I would not recommend Power House. I came in on a Friday night, after an event across the street. I understand that it's a dive bar, but this was below standard. My first attempt at getting a drink, I was blocked because there were four dogs (one dog was not on a leash) at the bar. It's already a small space between the booths and the counter, so four dogs take up a lot of space. The bar had an unpleasant odor, as well. The crowd was small, and the music was loud. I ordered a cocktail (my first option was not available) and drank it towards the back of the bar. I left after one quick drink, and I don't plan on going back. read more
