But convience and being hungover, drove me to Harvest. Don't expect a Michelin restaurant, but it was enough for me to say this is actually really decent. Egg white scrambler with chicken sausage and a black coffee is all I needed. The egg white was on point had great taste and it did its job. Our waitress, Patricia explained that we can pick items from the menu or help ourselves to the buffet. We opted for the menu. We ordered... Egg white omelette which came with potatoes and toast. Oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins. Coffee for 2. Came with a pot that you can refill yourself. The omelette was good. I wish the oatmeal came with warm milk on the side rather than cold. It would have been a better oatmeal. Service is good. Food is good but not great. I doubt I'll be here for breakfast in the next few days. read more

My daughter had the salad with salmon. It was good, though the salmon slightly overcooked. My burger was too salty and inedible. They were very nice about it, though and offered to comp any meal I chose. It had ruined my appetite, but it was nice to be offered. Not sure if this was a one off or a regular issue. Had breakfast here back in July. We were in for a long weekend and stayed at the Marriott for the weekend. Walked in on a Sunday morning and were told they only had the buffet on the weekends. We said okay thinking that we enjoy the buffets at home. What could go wrong. We were seated by the windows right away. Only 4 other people eating. Very nice staff. Buffet was pretty modest. Eggs, waffles/pancakes, bacon, oatmeal, assorted fresh fruits, and raw honey in the comb. All just okay but the that was not the biggest issue. $60 for the 2 of us. WTF. We could have spent $30 at Wildberry and had a helluva lot more choice and better food. I can take the blame for not asking about the price first but this is a rip off. You are better off picking something up from the shop in the lobby or going someplace else. Just not worth it and this is NOT a go to place in my book. read more

Came here with my honey for a quick breakfast before her conference. Got seated quickly, and noticed they were very proud of their breakfast, based off menu prices. We both opted for the Good Start Buffett, which included all you can eat fruit, bagels, muffins, cereal, bread, oatmeal, croissants, salmon & capers, and hard-boiled eggs. It also had your choice of juice and chocolate/regular milk. Basically, a runners delight with all you can eat carbs. Cost was $20, which I thought was more a $12 meal. For a hotel, though, these type of items seemed more like part of a free continental breakfast. Either way, it hit the spot. Service was decent and atmosphere very casual/relaxed. The Harvest is connected to the Marriott Magnificent Mile off Michigan in downtown Chicago. The restaurant serves all meals of the day from breakfast to snack to dinner. It's pretty much your standard fare in that way. Additionally, when you order room service, your meal will come from here. Typical Marriott properties at least have a decent and edible breakfast. I cannot say the same for Harvest. The breakfast buffet is not terribly good. I've stayed at the hotel now on several occasions and have tried the buffet and have tried to order things like omelets and english muffins. Alas, it has all been for naught. The eggs are typically soggy, the bacon is not cooked to crisp perfection, the potato hash is soggy, and the English muffins have on all occasions been stale. It's just not very good. And, the buffet is $22, so give me something that is decent to eat. You're probably going to get stuck purchasing some meal here - you're at a hotel for a reason. So, you might be S.O.L., but if you have the time I highly recommend eating somewhere else. read more

I don't care whether you're staying here or not. You have got to go up to the 2nd floor and try Harvest for the daily breakfast buffet. This place is run very, very well. Always clean, the waitstaff and hosts/hostesses are always very nice and accommodating, always there, but not hovering. You sit down and right away are greeted with juices, coffee or water, and I have yet to see the bottom of my cup. For the breakfast DIY'er, they have awesome bacon, eggs (scrambled and hard boiled), hash browns western style, 4-5 fresh fruit options, yogurt parfaits, smoked salmon with capers and red onion, more sweet rolls, breads, cereals and other assorted grain products than you can shake a stick at. Also, cured meats, cheeses, and on and on. They will also make french toast, waffles, pancakes or omelets any way you would like them. I have tried all of the above besides cereals (filler) and can assure you that they do all of it well. Price point is $16-$20 depending on what you choose and they offer breakfast by the plate as well. You won't be disappointed if you start your day off here. read more

A few weeks later, we decided to approach the restaurant again. (We didn't want to judge the restaurant based on one employee). Although, I wish we had. My roommate and I went for dinner; we order appetizers, entrees, and desert. As the food kept coming, I kept hoping the next item would be better. I was very disappointed in everything I tried. I found the food to be very bland and barely appetizing. I was even more disappointed when the bill was over $100. Given that we both did not order drinks, and the food was below par, I thought it was grotesquely overpriced. For breakfast, I felt like the servers were kind of aiming me toward the buffet, but that's maybe what most people want. Breakfast there was excellent! I ordered the Cornflake Crusted French Toast and it was AMAZING!!! And, they spoil you when you go there. They started me out with a free small cinnamon roll and smoothie sample. They offered and did warm-up my sugar-free syrup for me. We a complimentary breakfast buffet at the Harvest 2nd floor Marriott. The server was indifferent, minimal in her service, and incorrectly charged our breakfast to our room despite the clear comp. The food on the buffet was plentiful but, unfortunately cold. But, they did offer cook to order eggs and pancakes. The omlettes were very good. While politely correcting our bill, the hostess became flustrred and then rudely yelled to us at a distance "have a nice day". A simple breakfast turned sour. read more

Came here on our last day in Chicago for a quick breakfast after our morning run. We were pretty hungry so we decided to get the buffet. The one we chose only included cold items. They had a really nice array of breakfast items including cinnamon rolls, bagels, English muffins, toast, smoked salmon, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, and oatmeal. The fresh fruit was my favorite because it had the good kind like watermelon, raspberries, blackberries, pineapple, and blueberries. I hate getting a fruit bowl with nothing but cantaloupe and honeydew, so this was a nice treat. They offered orange juice, milk, grapefruit juice, coffee, and tea as well. I'm not sure how the food is at this place, because I never saw the waitress! This review is more about customer service. I went to The Harvest because it was convenient. I was seated quickly. Since I was a single person, the hostess put me in the back of the restaurant. I waited for about 10 minutes, then I got my phone out to check my email to kill time. I'm not sure if that was a good thing, because then I just stared at my clock. 15 minutes later and I still didn't see the waitress. I decided to leave. When I left I told the hostesses that I was leaving. One of the hostess gave me a look that I was annoying her. However, the second hostess was very apologetic (and she is the reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1). I was there at 10:00 am. and the place didn't seem busy. This restaurant focuses on locally produced food, organic when possible. Apparently they produce almost everything that they use as ingredients in house. They have an apiary (bee farm) in the hotel, and they grow their vegetables somewhere in the building as well. I have eaten here on a few different occasions, and have left thoroughly satisfied every time. I really like the pretzel bread rolls they offer as complimentary starters. They do have a few really good vegetarian options, such as the orecchiette pasta. One of the nice things about eating here is that you get the full service Marriott treatment, even if you're not staying at the hotel. For the quality of food that Harvest serves, the prices are quite reasonable. I highly recommend it to Chicago locals, as well as visitors! read more

This restaurant is in the Marriott. We had an early reservation at 6 pm and had to wait to be seated. The restaurant seemed disorganized. There were open tables, yet seating was slow. There seemed to be limited waitstaff. The bread basket was not good-kind of stale and seemed store bought. I had the short rib noodle dish. It was terrible. Meat was fatty. My husband had the prime rib-he ate less than half-poor execution. It took over an hour to get our food. The ambiance was pedestrian. Waitress was ok-pleasant, but had many tables. We were late meeting up with another couple due to having to wait so long to be seated and waiting for our food. Beer list had Half Acre, which is good, but $7 for a draft is too high. We live downtown and I would never recommend this restaurant. I felt bad for tourists who missed out on Chicago's restaurants by eating here. Spent $100 plus tip on a lousy meal. If you're staying at the hotel then it's ok but I would not go out of my way to eat there. Went there on a whim with the hubby for a Saturday night dinner as we were in the area. The service was good but the atmosphere is lacking and the menu is limited. My husband ordered the salmon and I got the blue cheese burger as I couldn't find anything else on the menu that really appealed to me. We usually like to order different things so we can try each other's food. The salmon was bland served over some veggies and no other side for $27. The burger with garlic fries was $20 and it was fine but nothing amazing. Dinner with (2) drinks, tax & tip was $90. The dining room is contemporary with an urban feel and open kitchen. Lots of dark browns and hints of nature with touches of green on the furniture and decor. Our server was couteous and friendly. She recommended her favorites on the menu and exchanged pleasantries with us. My friend ordered the Lunch Express - Roasted Corn Chowder and half a Reuben. She especially liked the soup (had a hint of spice). I ordered the Lake Michigan Whitefish with porcini crust and lentil-mushroom ragout served in a bowl. Loved it. Lovely dining experience. When I looked at their website I thought they might be cost prohibitive but I had a restaurant.com certificate. My friend and I were more than pleasantly surprised by the amazing menu and great service. Their house wine (grapes flown in from CA and then wine made in Chicago - the server told us) was a lovely blend of Cab and Shiraz and at $30 a bottle, affordable. We had deviled eggs with andouille sausage as an appetizer - fabulous! I had a burger w garlic fries, my friend had the pasta with steak and blue cheese sauce - both dishes amazingly flavorful and the burger was juicy and needed no other condiments. Went here for dinner recently and when we got there, the place was empty. We were a little apprehensive to stay, but were so hungry decided to just sit down. I am glad we did. The smoked primed rib was tender, flavorful, and delicious. The menu was a little bit pricey, but everything was awesome. The drinks were pretty pricey, as in $13 for a drink. Our dining experience was a HUGE disappointment. The bread basket was dry/stale. We didn't even finish a single roll. The only well-made and appetizing items were our salads (beet salad & caesar). In addition to an appetizer of scallops, we ordered the strip steak and he ordered the salmon. The food was cooked perfectly, except everything was so unbelievably salty we couldn't swallow it. My order also was incorrect when I received; it had fries when I asked to be substituted for mashed potatoes. The potatoes came out but were flavorless and also salty! (I noticed the man in the table nearby had part of his order given to him incorrectly too).
