Genuinely one of the worst places I've ever eaten at, I don't think I've ever even left a yelp review at any restaurant. I got "mountain pho", that was my first mistake. There was no soup/broth, and some sort of cheap egg noodle, no sauce, uncooked vegetables, and salty duck. Pretty much just thrown together in 5 minutes, but wait it took an hour! It was so bad I sent it back and got fried chicken, which took another 30 minutes. The chicken wasn't fried! Incredibly low quality frozen like wings, TGI Friday wings are better. We were driving home from a trip to upstate NY. Since we were passing through Virginia we had to stop here, as I always wanted to experience this place. Unfortunately we got there just as the gift shop closed. I really wanted to buy a "I carried a watermelon" tshirt :) The restaurant is kept up beautifully. Very clean and well kept. The food was pretty good. Our waiter (Wyatt) was outstanding. I would say if you are a fan of the movie, definitely do not hesitate to drive here to experience the restaurant, take pictures, etc. When you're actually in the restaurant and looking around, it's just kind of wild, being that's where the movie was partially filmed. read more

The appetizers and menu food is very delicious and full of flavor. This establishment holds the honor of being the filming location of the Blockbuster movie, Dirty Dancing. We came to Mountain Lake Lodge, like most guests, because it was the Dirty Dancing hotel. We chose to eat at Harvest because we were only staying one night and didn't want to drive back down the hill for dinner. We enjoyed ourselves and the staff was great...super attentive, well informed on the menu, and very friendly. The salad, bread, and side dishes were great (definitely order the potato pancakes...super delicious!) . My husband and I shared the mixed grill (ribeye, pork chop, crab-stuffed shrimp, wild game sausage, and quail). The meats were okay. I like a char on my meats and there was no char. The sausage was a little too gamey for my taste. The mixed grill was a nice way to try a few different items on the menu, but I would probably not order it again. read more

Attended lunch with some family and had a positive experience. The food, rueben and crab cake sandwich were excellent (crab cake sandwich was extra special). Service was a tad slow but very good and attentive. More slowness in the kitchen than with the staff on the floor, but there was a group of about 20 in front of us. read more

The food and service was excellent! This restaurant is in the hotel known as Kellerman's in Dirty Dancing. If you eat a little earlier you have a good chance to sit at the "Houseman's" table if you request it. The prices are also very reasonable. read more

Hubby and I had an awesome anniversary dinner at Harvest! We arrived shortly before closing and there were only two other tables in use. Our waiter was friendly and helpful without being overly present. Hubby began with the sausage jambalaya and I had the fried green tomatoes. For the main course I had the lamb chop with a mint pesto as well as two veggie sides (local squash and brussel sprouts) and hubby got the Virginia steak with mashed potatoes and a local veggie. For dessert we got the blueberry pound cake with lemon ice cream. My drink was called the peachy keen and he had berry julep. Everything was excellent. We watched the day end (it was too cloudy to call it a sunset) in a relaxed setting enjoying a truly delicious farm to table meal prepared in house. Our Harvest experience was part of why we are considering a revisit to Mountain Lake Lodge. It was part of our short but relaxed anniversary getaway and gets two thumbs up from both of us. stayed at the hotel because I LOVE the movie. My husband and I went to dinner at Harvest due to the fact that there aren't any other restaurants for miles. This wasn't our first encounter with an absolutely TERRIBLE restaurant attached to cute kichy hotel. -we got the app of spinach and artichoke dip with pita bread. First off, the dip was microwaved and not very well as it was cold in the middle. The pita bread slices were SO SALTY and COVERED with seasoning salt so much that it physically burned my lips when I ate one. ($9) -they brought us rolls after we ordered an app. Kind of a slimy move if you ask me. The rolls were the exact ones I buy from the grocery store frozen section, no joke my husband recognized them. -I got the "Pan seared chicken with white mushroom sauce" ($19) with a side of mashed potatoes ($4). I honestly don't know what part of the chicken it was, but it was the smallest and driest chicken I had ever had in my life. Topped with one lonely mushroom. My husband got the "wild game duo with blueberry confit" ($22) and a side of potato cake ($4). It was supposed to be venison steak and wild boar sausage. That wasn't a steak more of a burger and wild boar tastes like actual tree bark. - I'll basically let the pics speak for themselves. I feel sad that they let such a historic place fall to this level. Don't let the white table linens and beautiful view trick you into a $70+ bill. - 1 star because the server was nice and the view. read more

Perfect dinner 3/29/22. We wanted to see Mountain Lake Lodge for obvious reasons, the meal and service we received made our experience. Our waitress Jasmine was friendly and perfectly attentive. We had the cast iron chicken, spinach ravioli and salmon, all were absolutely delicious. The sides are large enough to share family style, we had mashed potatoes, french fries and asparagus, all were perfect compliments to our meals. We even stayed for dessert. Ok so it's not a downtown restaurant it's on top of a mountain! The food was really good the staff was awesome and they treat you right! If you want to visit I highly recommend reading their website there is so much going on you want to time it right to do everything you can. We were there for the New Year's Eve dinner on December 31. We had a reservation, as they had advertised a special pre-fix NYE menu. The atmosphere was beautiful as always, but we were very disappointed by the menu and service. There were several appetizers, salads, and mains to choose from from a set NYE menu. The food was average. The tuna appetizer was alright, but parts of it didn't seem super fresh. The fried green tomatoes were good. The oysters rockefeller were ok. The shrimp cocktail was your standard shrimp cocktail, I suppose. The winter salad was good and the best dish in my opinion. The trout stuffed with crawfish was stuffed with an overcooked mushy bland thanksgiving stuffing that had a few crawfish mixed in, served with "risotto" which was a mushy tasteless pile of overcooked regular rice (not arborio or other risotto rice). We were told all entree proteins were going to be cooked medium-rare, no exceptions. However, the trout was extremely over cooked, and one of the steaks was just seared on the outside and completely raw and bleeding inside (others were more cooked, so it seemed very inconsistent). We were not offered a wine or drink list or even a beverage list, and we assumed that perhaps they were not serving alcohol with this dinner since none of the tables near us seemed to have any beverages other than water or soft drinks. However, in other areas of the dining room there appeared to be tables with wine and cocktail glasses, so perhaps the server who had our section was disorganized or new or something. We waited about 15 minutes after being seated to have our order taken, and another 30 minutes before we got our food. We were not given a bread basket - we had to ask for one, and it came with our appetizers (after around 45 minutes after being seated). The NYE menu had baked alaska listed as the dessert, and when time came for dessert, we were told that the it's one dessert per two people, even though there was no indication of this on the menu or in the advertising. We were also not provided extra dessert plates, which would have been standard for shared dishes. Since we're a family of four, no shared plates was not a big deal to us, but imagine if we had been two different couples, or friends, or acquaintances. The "baked alaska" was some sort of very dense, factory-made white cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a smattering of.... well it's difficult to call that a meringue - it resembled bubble bath bubbles (both in appearance and texture) more than it did a meringue. Parts of this "meringue" were slightly blackened, indicating an attempt at charring. The dessert was barely edible, so it's just as well there was only one provided per two people. Perhaps they ran out of desserts and so started telling people it's supposed to be shared among two people? The dessert, both the actual dessert and the fact that it supposedly was to be shared, was truly shocking and bizarre. I wonder what they would have done if a party with an odd number of guests had come. The funniest part was when the check came. We are a family of four, and we look like any average, run-of-the-mill family of four. When the waiter came with the check he asked if we will be paying together or separately. So you force two people to eat one dessert off of the same plate, but then you ask if they're paying separately? It seems they had planned poorly for the evening, and maybe were focusing too much on their hotel guests and didn't have the bandwidth to properly treat their restaurant guests. read more

Visited the Harvest Restaurant at Mountain Lake hotel for their seafood buffet . They only have this particular special for 6 weeks and with COVID restrictions, the reservations are limited . We had reservations for 8:30. The cost for an adult is 49.95, the feature dish was king crab legs . The were filled to capacity and we expected to have fresh food for the price they are charging . Not the case . The never filled anything and the crab legs were over cooked . If you are taking reservations at 8:30 , the food should be just as fresh as earlier . It was a large spread , no doubt but it was picked through, and they were allowing things to run out when people were paying 50$ A head. Not at all worth it. Terribly disappointed. read more

Mothers day brunch was AWFUL! Most of the dishes were either cold or luke warm at best. When we said something to the manager we were told "sorry, and thanks for telling us". Really? At 40.00 per person, cold food and just a 'sorry'? How sad. Will never go back! read more

This review is just for the Harvest restaurant. I can't speak for the rest of the resort. The food was very good. Not spectacularly good but more than adequate although it is quite pricey. The staff was reasonably friendly but just not very competent. We were given unclean glasses that still had lipstick on them from the previous guests. Our coffee was served cold. So ok. Our waitress was very nice and corrected the problem for us. Then came the bill. We have them a card and signed the only check they returned to us. We also left a good tip in cash for the waitress - we wanted her to have the option of not sharing with the kitchen staff who clearly wasn't trying as hard as she was. We left happy after walking through the lobby for 20 minutes. Halfway down the mountain we got a call from the manager very rudely telling us we hadn't paid our bill. I said I watched our party sign the check. She said we had signed the wrong check. Not the customer copy mind you, they had given us the wrong check apparently. She said it was our fault and we had to come back. We were frustrate but went back. No one was waiting for us and we had to track her down. She explained rather rudely that this happens to a lot of guests but somehow it is our fault that they regularly screw up. No apology. No promise to do better next time. Not worth it for the money. Keep the waitress, ditch the rest of the staff. Especially that manager. read more

My wife and I were pretty pumped to come here for her birthday driving from Michigan. The atmosphere seemed pretty inviting with glimpses of the dirty dancing movie. It was a Thursday night and one or two tables were seated. We were sat down at 6:30pm and once we left it was 8:30pm with wait times being terrible. She found shells in her crab ravioli and my steak came out cold and very fatty. The server had to serve a wedding party and multiple tables so I don't blame her since she had no help. It's the managers responsibility to make sure there was coverage. For the love of god stay away from s'more bread pudding! Will just be eating off of the lodge for the rest of our stay. read more

My dinner at Harvest during my stay at the Mountain Lake Lodge was excellent. The room was quiet and the live piano music was very soothing. Our waiter Cameron was extremely polite and attentive, making frequent checks to ensure the quality of the food was great. My angus ribeye was excellent, and the mashed potatoes were also delicious. My cinnamon mixed drink was stellar, and the slice of peanut butter pie I ordered was also very good. Overall, great meal, great atmosphere, and great service. read more

We ate at the Harvest on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and was very underwhelmed. It was mostly empty and we were told they prefer reservations for staffing prep, which I understand and apologized, but after that we were treated like we were bothering them for eating at their restaurant. Food was not great. My shrimp and grits tasted like something from a box. The steaks ordered were fatty and very thin, but had a good taste (they don't come with a steak knife). The eggs and sausage/bacon didn't come with any kind of bread/toast/biscuits. Actually, none of the dishes came with bread. Our server was very nice but our drinks didn't get refilled very quickly and we just felt like we were getting the bare necessities and bland food. For the prices and history of this beautiful resort, we expected something much better. Being October, we enjoyed the drive and Fall colors but left feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. read more

We called to make a reservation, and they did not have our name down as we arrived at the restaurant. We waited forever to be waited on and the waitresses had no idea who was waiting on us. We ordered drinks and they brought out double because they did not throw away the ticket (not complaining), we ordered salads and the meal came out before the salad did, and the food was atrocious. Luv lunch was ok here. It took about 1.5 hours so don't be in a hurry. At dinner the hostess asked us to wait five minutes even though we had a reservation. After five minutes the hostess started seating others with the same reservation as they walked up. After 10 minutes they seated us but the people they seated before us all had the good views at that point. After being seated 30 minutes the manager came to take our drink and food order. Mother's Day Brunch. Don't waste your money (a pricey $29) for this. All the food is from the frozen section of your local Sam's or Costco. In the past we have enjoyed this but they really slid backwards this year. Only vegetable to be found was baby carrots. Ziti and meatballs tasted like school food if even that good. The dessert table looked like someone hit it repeatedly with a baseball bat, probably because they were upset with the quality. They did have prime rib, but I don't want to pay $29 for one piece of prime rib because it's the only option. Harvest Room--please try. Just a little harder. read more

Not sure about menu items but I have been here twice for the Friday Night Seafood Buffet. I would not recommend this $50 buffet. Seafood Newburg was overly soupy but tasted ok, oysters tasted how river mud smells, crab legs were over cooked and nearly impossible to eat as the shells were rubbery and would not crack open and the butter was bland and unsalted which just made the over cooked crab tasteless and greasy. The steamed shellfish had such an unpleasant odor when I opened the the chaffing dish that I immediately regretted that action. Service was sub-par and we had to refill our own waters several times from the various server stations. However, there were some highlights. The aesthetics are pleasing, they did not ruin the fried options (oysters, shirmp, conch fritters and frog legs) and the deserts were ok. We did not have reservations and were treated with a bit of contempt even though there were several open tables that stayed open all night, we were seated at a table that was smaller than the bus tray our drinks arrived on. The toilets are down the hall from the hotel lobby and on the way you are greeted with profile glamour shots of the restaurant staff suggesting they think more highly of themselves than their customers, or perhaps trying to present an air of competence where there was none.
