We went to this location on Monday for the Hedenberg special ordered it without onions and 45 mins later it showed up with onions on part of it and you could tell it was on the other half as well but taken off. I have been going to Macado's for at least 30 years. I always order potato skins and I love them. Tonight in Christiansburg though, I had a bad experience. My potato skins had no bacon. It was just cheese and potatoes. My waitress apologized and put in a new order for us. The second order was the messiest looking plate I've ever seen. The potato skins had mountains of bacon under a layer of cold congealed cheese with pieces of shredded cheese that weren't melted. I brought them home hoping I could microwave them so the cheese would melt. Unfortunately, some of the potatoes weren't even cooked all the way through. I am truly disappointed. The atmosphere is fantastic with great memorabilia all around. Other than the atmosphere, it was a big flop. The beer came out pretty cold but I've never been anyplace where the draft beer was more expensive than the bottled beer of the same brand. No big deal. I can look past the pricing. I just thought it was odd. Getting a second beer was more difficult. We hardly ever saw the server. The menu is pretty extensive which is usually a red flag in my books but we were both not going to order appetizers. My wife ordered the warm, soft pretzels and I ordered the mango habanero chicken wings with blue cheese and celery. Now I wasn't expecting somebody in the kitchen to roll out some dough and form a pretzel and bake it but believe it our not a restaurant can order frozen dough already shaped and all the kitchen has to do is spray it with salt water, sprinkle course salt on it and bake it for a few minutes. It would actually be better tasting and less expensive than what happened. My wife was served two microwaved, frozen pretzels with a massive ramekin of what was supposed to be beer cheese sauce. If you have ever made the mistake of buying pretzels from the supermarket that get heated in your microwave, you know what I'm talking about. The pretzels sweat the moisture out from the dough and make the entire thing just plain nasty. Ahhh, but maybe the beer cheese will help the taste. Alas, no beer flavor at all. In fact, I would bet my bottom dollar it was poured out of a giant can of cheese sauce without anything added to it. Pretty disgusting. But maybe my wings will be good. They came with the same size ramekin of blue cheese as my wife's "beer cheese." I only use it for the celery anyway, never the wings so the large size was overkill. Well, the wings were crispy. In fact they were overcooked. It hit my by the third wing though. Some old folks like me remember when Buffalo Chicken Wings we're first introduced and they were fairly easy to make at home. But sometime in the mid-1980s frozen winglets came on the market and they were par cooked. That is exactly how these wings tasted. The sauce was decent but not really spicy for mango habanero. If you're going out for a few beers, it's probably a good spot. I'm definitely not a fan of the food. read more

In general, I'm a fan of Macado's, but more and more lately it depends on the location. Sadly, I can't recommend the Christiansburg location. Several bad experiences lately with quality of food, order accuracy and quality of service. What's more, the floor is always sticky and the place just doesn't seem clean. To go orders have been wrong, and food cold upon pick up. Finally, the level of service has fallen below lacking ,to downright poor. It has always been slow here, but now they just don't seem to care at all. You can stand waiting to be seated for extended periods even when tables are open while staff hangs out in the kitchen. And if you order to go, you will stand endlessly at the bar while the bartender ignores you, despite that being the pick up location for the to go orders. On my most recent visit, I could see our order, bagged and sitting on the rack behind the bar, but the bartender seemed to intentionally stay at the far end of the bar chatting and refusing to make eye contact until eventually, after waiting about 15 minutes. I flagged down someone in the kitchen and asked if someone could get our order. Despite living in C'burg, I won't be going back to this restaurant. I'd rather make the drive to Blacksburg than put up with the frustration here. read more

They clearly make everything as cheaply as possible but where it really stands out is in the quality of the meat, which was probably refused by the dog food factory. And I know that patty didn't take 5 minutes to cook. But the very friendly bar tender did try to upsell me a drink while I waited. Fries were decent, frozen crinkle cut with some lawrys. $16+ after tax, without a drink. One thing that makes me crazy, the ingredients which are essentially free on the build-your-own, they'll charge you if you add them to your menu sandwich. ? Not rational. The entrance is always sticky and black from all the grease carried out of the kitchen but never mopped, gross. The website has way too many unacceptables for 2024, mostly simple stuff, like not being able to customize online the same way you can on the phone. A college student could revamp that website in 3 days. Take a look at the ratio of call-in to web orders you get Macados, I bet it blows away other comparable restaurants. It's expensive to take those calls, and expensive opportunity cost on the upsells you get online. Anyway, I do hope they turn it around. I often visit the Radford Macados and have always had great food and service, but I recently moved to Christainsburg and decided to try out this Macados because it's much closer to home. I am sorry I did. We ordered bone in and boneless wings, plain with three different sauces on the side. I did not check my food until I got home and what they gave us for boneless wings is truly despicable. I attached a photo so you could see the size/quality. Most were just breading and didn't have any chicken in them whatsoever. Secondly, they gave us four ramekins of the same sauce WITH A HAIR ON ONE. My experience is based on a carry out order on a Saturday night. So i tried the garlic bread and Mac & cheese. The garlic bread didn't seem to actually have garlic so that was kinda strange.
