This place has too aspects: atmosphere which is very good and food which is terrible. I usually don't leave any reviews but I have to when I feel I was robbed. the food is super overpriced with the materials used feeling super cheap to me. The steak which was more expensive then peter lugar was a joke, no taste, the chicken at feels good chicken is much better, all in all they use Alcohol and good vibes to sell you ridiculously bad food at Michelin star restaurant prices while you get drunk and forget how bad the food is, but it's really a bad joke how terrible the food is. As a longtime fan of Miznon, I was so excited to see that HaSalon was opening in my neighborhood. Having been once, I can safely say I will never, ever return. However, if you must go, below are some helpful tips for surviving a visit to Hell's Kitchen's most exciting restaurant: 1. Expect a wait. We waited 20m past our reservation time, which was fine! We then waited 90m for the two cocktails we ordered, and over two hours for the first of our food to arrive (which was literally avocado toast). In case you're wondering why a heavily-staffed restaurant takes so long to make a salad - they don't believe in mise en place. 2. Health inspectors beware. We sat at the counter, right in front of chef/owner Eyal Shani. The counter features a cornucopia of food (tomatoes, several cooked octopi, olives, etc.), which are not protected by a barrier and are placed helpfully within sneezing distance of patrons. There are signs that say "display only" posted, but fear not! That food is 100% not for display, Eyal and the other chefs constantly pull food from the counter. In fact, that $59 octopus dish on the menu comes directly off the counter! The man sitting next to me literally took a piece of octopus tentacle (from an octopus that was being served) and popped it in his mouth. Yum. 3. Consider making a withdrawal from your 401k. The exact same portion of minute steak that would cost you $14 at Miznon costs $79 here. Isn't that fun? A tiny sashimi platter (doused heavily with olive oil and haphazardly sprinkled with caviar) costs $109. Avocado toast or a single chopped tomato are $24 each. The prices are eye-wateringly expensive, even for New York. Expect to easily spend $300-400+ for a party of 2. But hey, there's free flatbread. 4. Brush up on your Fortnite dance moves. I had the pleasure of being there for the late "party" seating. A bit after 10, the industrial shutters on all the windows abruptly shut, and the Vivaldi transitioned to blaring Israeli pop. It's approximately the decibel level of a Terminal 5 concert, and people behave accordingly. Lots of dancing on tables, men taking their shirts off, and one guy who was just taking close-up shots of women dancing. As the night goes on, they vary the music slightly (by which I mean, they play some old Pitbull). If you're one of those people who don't like to grind in front of your dinner, you're at the wrong place - they are VERY serious about the club vibes here (less serious about serving food). 5. You can't always get what you order. My party got exactly half of the dishes we ordered - we also got a couple things we didn't order, and some apology tequila shots. Our waitress was very sweet and doing her best, but there didn't seem to be any kind of a system or expediter in the kitchen making sure orders were getting fired. By the time we left, 2 hours and 30 minutes after we had entered, we had managed to eat an order of beef carpaccio (which was served on a piece of cling wrap), avocado toast, and a different pasta than we had ordered. There are only two cocktails available and you can't make any modifications to them, which doesn't make sense given their "this should feel like your living room" pitch. Also, it's located in the skyline hotel (motel), which isn't clear otherwise. Can't speak for the late, late night scene, but at around 10:00, it wasn't the party we were expecting. In a world where people pick restaurants because of vibes and social media memories, this place only offers that and nothing else. I went with 6 other people, and the waitress told us that the food was shareable, which sounded great until we realized that she lied to our faces. That overpriced salad and overpriced potatoes tasted good based on the small taste I was able to have while sharing them with 6 friends. The ribeye was $140 dollars, and it was a 10-maybe 12-ounce piece with the bone. I couldn't believe how little food we got for the price. I don't mind paying a lot of money for food, but it has to be worth it in some way. The looks on all of our face I know gave a bad impression. At some point, the sous chef came out to us and said he heard we were a little disappointed with the portion size and told us the food should be an experience. This restaurant actively tries to provide the lowest quality food possible for the highest price they can manage. I've never had a waiter sell me on ordering more food so hard. They refused to seat us at a different table even though the entire restaurant was more or less empty. Only two cocktails were available, and neither were anything interesting (g+t and paloma). The uni was some of the least flavorful I've ever had. We had a lot of fun laughing as each dish was brought out and disappointed more than the last. There was also a bell that went off every two minutes next to our table which was extremely irritating. Went there for my friend's birthday and it was truly a hot mess. They didn't provide the sparklers and cake for my friends birthday even though the reservation mentioned her birthday and we told the waiter when we arrived. We didn't have much time left but we at least wanted to go the sparklers in the last 5 minutes but the waiter talked behind our back about it. We ordered the pasta thinking we could split it between 4 people since it was supposed to be family styled sharing and we asked the waiter if it was enough for all of us and they said yes. When it came out it was five pieces of tortellini that had a bizarre crunch to it. For being so expensive we expected more. Everything on the menu is very expensive but the food is not worth it. They also did not ask how we would like our steak done. The hell's chicken was tasty but part of it was spilled on the table when the waiter pulled the string out. Believe the hype. It's like Bagatelle meets Lavo with a Tel Aviv twist to it. Food is solid due to chef Eyal's masterpieces. We were able to sit at the bar and watch Eyal at work. Yes, it might be a bit pricey. But would you not want to feel the taste of Heaven? I say Hell yeah! Their Avocado Bruschetta is one like that. Ripe, flavorful and extremely tasty. The roasted lamb was well prepared and full of those Mediterranean spicing and scent. Makes you feel like you're in Israel without even going there. And the wine selection is quite impressive. Found! Impossible reservation to get and I understand why. It is a party that everyone wants to attend. Sure the food is excellent, Eyal knows what he is doing in the kitchen, but the music and dancing is refreshing outside of a club environment. People are in a great mood motivated by their mostly Israeli servers/party enhancers. Alcohol is flowing abundantly, but certainly not cheaply. When I was there, people were on tables dancing, and plates & glassware were festively being thrown to the ground to break. It is only open three days a week, making the reservation that much harder. We were very excited and looking forward to dining at HaSalon but unfortunately had a terrible experience and even canceled our entrees so that we could leave. We opted to sit at the kitchen bar but as the seats were so close together it was really uncomfortable to get in and out. Other guests had to move so that the stool could get pulled out. Our waitress, although very sweet had no idea how to open up a bottle of Champaign and had to have a manager show her. This btl opening lesson could have been less public and off to the side. Not a great start to an evening. We started with the 7 ricotta clouds. The gnocchi were delicious but as they were served on a cold plate the sauce broke and became oily - not something you expect of a $34 dish for 7 pieces. Our second course were the crab cakes. They were so salty that we barely touched them. When the waitress picked them up and asked why we didn't eat them, we explained the issue. Instead of potentially offering another app or taking it off the bill she said "ok" and left. At this point we called her over to cancel the entrée, and ask for the check. The check was dropped with no hospitality or offering of any kind. ~$400 for 7 pieces of gnocchi with a broken sauce, barely touched crab cakes and although a decent btl of Champaign, true cost $45 with an upcharge to $225 is ridiculous. An EPIC experience. We all agreed that this place was not just a restaurant. It is absolutely an incredible culinary experience. The 5 of us went to dinner. Shared some 15-18 different items from the menus. The food: Devine. Felt like we were judges on a food channel show. Every dish was beautiful to the eyes and amazing to the taste buds. You know that you are being served great food when after tasting each dish you feel like ordering another of the same. The atmosphere: Cool, hip restaurant. Friendly, energetic staff. Second sitting is a party. Price: 5 of us, little alcohol and lots of food. Total cost: $600 with tip. At a cost of less than $150 a person, given the quality and taste of the food and the great atmosphere and friendly happy staff, we thought it was more than worth it. A tip: Go with a larger group. The host was very snobby and not accommodating, we came to NY especially for this restaurant and we were celebrating a birthday, we had reservations but had added a person to the party, the hostess refused to sit us even though half of the restaurant was empty at our time of arrival. Don't think this is worth the hype. Came here last night to celebrate my sisters birthday. Was hoping for a fun party vibe like I've seen in instagram videos but it was pretty average. The food was nothing special for being expensive, and the service was below average. Waiters kept bringing food out and not explaining to us what each item was. The restaurant itself is fairly small. They managed to cram all these old tables and old mismatched chairs in there. Was expecting more of an elegance with the pricing be so high but there not much of an elegance here. The 'party' part of the night started at 11pm and the restaurant closes by midnight so you really only get to enjoy that for 1 hour. We assumed it was fun party vibes all night but it's not. And they mostly play Arabic music which I don't mind but the whole night was little much like the DJ could've switched it up a little bit. It was a fun night out and the food was decent but definitely not worth the hype nor the price.$1250 for six people is excessive when there's other brunch/dinner parties like LAVO or bagatelle that are better.
