Yes it's expensive but you're supposed to share the meals not get individual plates. With that said this place is awesome to start the night, if you're celebrating an event or have visitors this is the place to take them too. Two seatings if you want to enjoy the food and conversation go before 8:30 after 8:30 it's a party, feels like you're own private nightclub. I never write yelp reviews, but wanted to warn you from this scam. Individual asparagus for $9 (no joke - was one asparagus in a napkin), fish for 220$, and an OK rib eye for one for 99$. In a city where you can have some of the best steaks in the world (this wasn't even one of the better steaks in Hell's Kitchen) for $50-70 (just hop over to Keens, Peter Luger, Porter House etc. - the difference in price will cover your Uber) this place shouldn't exist. HaSalon generally feels like some kind of joke on its customers. Dishes came out randomly in no particular order. Steak came out first in 15 minutes and some sort of very simple polenta took 90 minutes. We ordered two identical cocktails but only one came out because they "were out." Generally, they were out of every other item on the menu, including one of the two available cocktails (cocktails are 25$, $7-8 more than the perfect cocktails at the Nomad and about the same price as those at Thomas Keller's three starred Per Se). If you want to splurge, go somewhere where they actually put some thought and effort into your food, service and experience, and where the prices are consistent and linked to what you get. WOW! I never thought that I would be writing this review. For I had read the previously posted (spotty) reviews as well as the article in the Newyorker. As such, I was skeptical, at best. So much so that when a friend said that they had a (late) resey @Hasalon, I said "meh". Well, the friend pushed me and I went this past Fri. OMG! I've been lucky enough to travel to all 7 continents, 65+ countries and literally thousands of restaurants (including Machneyuda) and bars. I have never (ever!) seen or experienced anything like my night at Hasalon. All of which was great. The food was good or better. We went veg and fish-centric and a couple of dishes were excellent. The presentations were great and memorable. But it's not about the food here. And I say that as someone who lives to eat. As the night progressed, the energy level of the room increased in a palpable way. Once the roll-shutters came down , things went into high gear. The staff (ty Austin!), the DJ spinning great tunes and all of our fellow diners each contributed to such a fun night. All in our group worked up a sweat dancing for a looong time. Everyone in the room was smiling and luvin the night. We were sad to leave. Like the way I feel at the end of a great wedding. Yes, it was more pricy than many traditional restaurants. Go in for the second shift and experience something you've so refreshingly brilliant. The food was to die for, don't be alarmed at the price. You're getting an above and beyond food experience. From scheduling my reservation with Alexandra to Donna reaching out when a better table was open for my special day everyone was a prime example of how you should treat customers. All the wait staff was smiling as if they were in on some kind of secret; possibly that they all speak Hebrew. they are fairly laissez faire in their attention but the food and drink make up with it. Came here with 4 friends and had a great time. The food is definitely expensive but with two exceptions we were very happy with everything we ordered. The veggies and pastas were especially good. The second seating is the "party seating" but be forewarned nothing really gets going until 10pm. The music got progressively louder every 30 minutes or so from when we arrived at 8pm but there is no dancing or anything until 10pm. People definitely came there looking for a good time. This was the most fun dining experience I've ever had! Not only was the food delicious, fresh and unique but the service was top notch as well. The chefs here clearly have a serious passion for food and creating an impressive presentation. Aside from the food/service, the party scene was next level! At 10:30 the window shutters come down and lights off and the party begins. Everybody is up from their seats dancing on the chairs and tables. There was a perfect mix of music ranging from Israeli hits, 90s hip hop, rock, etc. I can truly say this was my most fun night out in a long time!! We went this past Friday night and WOW! Austin was our server and his level of service was excellent. His passion for food and fun made our experience top notch ! We went for the late seating at 8:30, which was perfect as we had time to enjoy our delicious food before the party started . Our favs were the tomatoes, the whole fish and the roast beef to name a few things . By 10:30 the music was notched up and before we knew it, everyone was up from their seats and dancing! Loved our experience at HaSalon. The food quality, service and lively atmosphere were great. The ingredients are simple but of highest quality and prepared with thought and loving attention to detail. Chef Eyal is a master of his craft. We ate some of the best octopus I've had, and we live in a city where octopus is a mainstay at restaurants with a easy supply of local and foreign delivered options. Our server was very personable, and while delivery is done in a casual friendly manner, attention to detail and ensuring a good experience was a clear priority. We had a 9pm reservation and glad we got to experience a little over an hour where we could focus on the food, wine, and the chef and crew, as we were seated at the kitchen counter. Transitioning to a fun dance party as the evening went on was a lot of fun. We live on the West coast but will return next time we are in NYC and told our local friends to give it a try. read more

OK so this was our first time here. Obviously the second seating vibe with the music and dancing make for an experience unlike any other restaurant and is a big draw for a lot of the clientele. But we are food people and that is what this review is about. The food quality is exceptional. Yes, this place is not inexpensive but food of this quality costs. Some places have great food quality but the preparation of the food does not meet the level of the quality. Not here. The preparation and presentation are spot on. Now if you are looking for fine dining with traditional, classically prepared dishes and table cloths, this is not your place. If you are looking for a place that celebrates food and raises the level of simple ingredients, this is it. And that truly is the mark of a great kitchen, when it can make you sit back and marvel at the taste of a simple potato. One note about service. As a Hells Kitchen resident, I was looking forward to my Saturday night reservation (at 8:45 right before the "party starts"), and especially having a fun, hip restaurant in the neighborhood that wasn't a typical Thai/Mexican joint that can be found along 9th Ave. Boy was I wrong...I'd take those restaurants ANY DAY over this place. And with that said, I would urge (STRONGLY) for anyone looking to come here, to book away and instead look to Taboon (literally 2 blocks north) for a great Mediterranean/Middle Eastern meal with gracious service and hospitality in an inviting atmosphere. Taboon is a neighborhood gem for a reason...and NO i don't work for them or and am not shilling for them. Where do I start? As many reviewers have written, the prices here are shocking...and as I looked around at the scene in the room I did get a sense that people were ordering freely...but I also got the sense that a lot of people must have been on some expense account or were celebrating birthday's. I honestly feel terrible for anyone reading this review who are coming there for a friends birthday and are jilted into paying exorbitant prices for this food that they then had to split. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. (And maybe consider getting a new best friend...haha...kidding...sorta.) Besides this, the service was also very off and haphazard. Our server looked like a deer caught in headlights and when we asked for recommendations to order off the menu, she literally listed 95% of the menu. Is it just me, or doesn't everyone just want a few suggestions, but not to be read the menu back to them verbatim? If you're looking for a cocktail, also BEWARE of what you order...we were very quickly told that "NO, we can't serve you a Grey Goose martini because that isn't one of our 3 cocktails." When I asked what drinks they had with Campari (since there is a row of Campari bottles behind the bar) and I was thinking maybe a negroni would be a good start, I was also told that "SORRY, the bottles are there for show...we don't actually serve any Campari cocktails. We can do a shot if you want." WHAT???!?!? I'm in a restaurant spending literally hundreds of dollars and you can't make me a drink and the bottles are there "for show" despite having the ingredients readily available...ingredients that I'm staring at directly in front of me?! COME ON! I dare everyone to go in and order an "off menu" drink from the bar and see what the bartender or server tells you...just to get a nice laugh and see them scramble. (My sadistic side is clearly coming out now!) The atmosphere is definitely fun and festive, but I guess I missed the "party" that I was expecting as well. The ominous classical music that they played was just turned up loud, but honestly did nothing to promote a party and instead felt like I was at a Beethoven concerto with the volume locked at HIGH position. (And this was at10 pm on a Saturday as well!) Needless to say, my BF and I got a variety of appetizers and went through numerous glasses of wine each, but when the server came back to get our entree order, we both looked at each other and whispered..."lets leave". Needless to say, our bill for the "experience" was ~$250 including tip. I'm honestly curious to see what turns out of this restaurant. The location is off-the-beaten track for a restaurant of this type (even though I admittedly live around the corner), the prices exorbitant, the service lackluster...I wonder, once the hype dies down in a month or so, who is going to support this place? This is a review of the bar at HaSalon, not the dining room. I've never been to the dining room and I don't know if the vibe in there is enough to mitigate the damage done by their awful bar service. The bar was not busy the entire time we were there. At one point my party of two was the only group at the bar aside from a couple making out. Yet the entire time we were standing at the bar the bar tenders walked by us without saying a word. At one point our bar tender was having a conversation with another employee while I was standing right in front of them waiting to order my drinks. Again, there was literally no one else there. Eventually another employee approached them and broke up their conversation and told them to help me. The whole time I was there I felt awkward, like I was doing something wrong or I didn't belong. Sometimes that happens in NYC, but usually at places that are packed to the brim and really popular, not at a bar where the only other group is a drunken couple about to go up to their hotel room. Also, the bartender, although nice and somewhat personable, wasn't knowledgeable about the most basic elements of the bar. She didn't know how much my glasses of wine were. She didn't know much about the wine. She didn't know much about the menu items, though she did tell me that everything on the menu was "awesome". But I was somewhat accepting of this because the restaurant is so new. Their prices, however, are unacceptable. I ordered two glasses of Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France. It doesn't take a master sommelier to figure out that we paid $22 per glass for a bottle of Pinot that probably cost $20 wholesale. The bottle we had was from the lowest level of prestige available in Burgundy and from a regrettable vintage. I literally think I could find the bottle around NYC for the same price I paid for a glass. I understand that restaurants make money by including a markup for drinks but the price-to-quality ratio here was too extreme. There are too many other amazing wine bars around where I could drink a better Pinot for $15. Without going into detail, the same could be said about their Champagne ($25 a glass for a premier Cru from Epernay; again, a decent champagne but not worth the money). We had 4 glasses of wine and the total was over $100. That's just absurd considering the quality of the wines. I've paid less for prestigious wines that were served by the glass via a Coravin. HaSalon has many hallmarks of a great NYC bar but misses the mark due to bad service and grossly overpriced drinks (or at least overpriced wine). read more

Let me start by saying I have never ever left a review of any restaurant anywhere and I am a huge foodie, I am confidant enough to say I have a superior palate. Before going here I read all the reviews and tried to convince my friends we should not go to this overpriced place with from what I read had awful food. Somehow I lost the battle and we ended up there last night at 8 pm. The place was busy but by no means crowded yet. Within minutes the nicest Israeli girl, Romi walked over to us and explained the menu which I must add had the priciest dishes I have ever seen, even more expensive then Le Bernadin. I didn't quite understand but I said let's just order a few things and go with it. We were already there...next our waiter came to the table introduced himself. He was outgoing, fun, honest... etc. He told us what to order if we were only going to order three things. We took his advice ordered the items and some drinks. The food was good, by no means great... if you are looking for just a great meal and nothing else don't go here. However what I do have to say about HaSalon is that I had one of the most fun nights I've had in NYC ever! By 10:00 the music got louder, energy filled the room, patrons were dancing on tables swinging napkins, Israeli music was playing., and the night turned out to be at A plus.
