No need to drive long distances for breakfast - H&B is here! When we walked in the door they greeted our kids first and let my preschooler tell them how many there were and whether his baby sister needed a high chair. Both the kids felt seen and special, and responded with great behavior! The style and ambience is lovely. They must have acoustic tiling in the ceiling because despite the high ceiling it wasn't too loud for a conversation. The conversation mostly revolved around how good the food was. My husband and I started with mimosas. They were flavorful but not very sweet, which was a nice compliment to the savory food. The food arrived probably 6 minutes after we ordered it; we weren't even looking for it yet! The children's pancakes were the right size for little hands, with 4 little pancakes each and two slices of perfectly cooked bacon. I ordered the Irish hash and my only complaint is that it was so big I couldn't finish it. My husband, who puts ketchup on every potato in the world, said with surprise that his Monterey hash didn't need ketchup at all. Service was quick and friendly, the food spectacular, the drinks delicious, and the prices reasonable. Our only negative was a piece of eggshell in my husband's hash. The little details were excellent too. The butter was already creamed and soft for easy spreading, the buttermilk biscuits were still steaming, and the eggs perfectly cooked. Although I'm not crazy about this spot gave it another try because I didn't feel like driving again and was already in bayhill, yet I only wasted my time and money‍ I got the strawberry mimosa with greek omelette along with hashbrowns but hashbrown was over cooked wasn't crispy at all and omelette tasted so off...the mimosa was served in a dessert cup and didn't taste like a mimosa. While dining they kept checking on me but didn't offer anything and one server kept waiting for my response but I had food in my mouth! Like common sense much?? For big groups I would def call in advance. Other than that food was pretty delicious, and service was great. The wait was about 20 min for a party of 5 on Mother's Day. we have been wanting to try this as it's near by and sounded good. we haven't been in for breakfast, which may be their main focus, but we came in for dinner and were not impressed. my boyfriend did like his beer and the server was very kind and attentive. however our spinach artichoke dip was just... okay. i ordered the la la paloma which was good, but a little too syrupy for my liking. then i ordered the salmon picatta with rice and seasonal vegetables. the salmon was just okay also, the rice was too mushy for my liking. i did enjoy the vegetables. my boyfriend got the wild west burger which was just boring and not great, he took like two bites. the garlic fries were very bland and didn't seem like they were even fried or tossed in any sort of garlic. unfortunately it just wasn't super good! :-( and was still a $100 meal including tip. read more

100% solid brunch spot. Food was good and options are plentiful and prices very reasonable. I got the crab cake Benedict, boyfriend got the burger with sweet potato fries which were amazing. Very disappointing. Came here because I didn't want to wait an hour for Milbrae Pancake House, but I ended up waiting anyway and for terrible food. Food = Ugh - Chicken and Waffles: Chicken wasn't crispy which is kinda sad because it was a soggy chicken tenders with weird burnt seasoning (see pic). Waffles were dry af, didn't think you could mess that up. - Fried Chicken Benedict: Same chicken as above, overcooked scrambled eggs (thought it was supposed be a poached egg?) and a tough biscuit my knife had trouble cutting through. Only good thing was the potatoes. - Red Velvet Waffles: Way too much frosting drizzled all over which made it disgustingly sweet. I scrapped it off and used the whipped cream instead. This waffle was not dry af like the Belgian one. Customer service = bad When I put my name down for 3 and the hostess said 30min wait. Waited around 30min but started to notice that people who came later were being seated. I asked the hostess, who claimed she called me already. But she obviously didn't because we were standing next to her the entire time. It's annoying because she didn't own up to her mistake of crossing out our name. Overall, not coming back. Place has a nice modern feel. Seating is a little cramped. Hostess seemed pre-occupied. Our server had such a laid back attitude. I'm not sure if that was a good thing. He didn't seem genuine. Bathrooms smelled terrible by 10am. Was it cleaned from the day before? Menus were stained. Party of 2. Greek Hash ($13.95) was so greasy it was almost inedible. Where's the gyro meat?? Over medium eggs did not look appetizing. Came with 2 sad pieces of fruit. For a place with "hash" in the name the potatoes were very underwhelming. Shame on you. Supreme Omelette ($14.25) wasn't bad but also wasn't great for the price. No one came to check on us after the food arrived. Didn't get a coffee until I flagged someone down. Overall customer service was a big "meh". Food was very mediocre for the price. They seemed under staffed. However, the bartender did keep the drinks flowing at the bar. And again, it's 10am in the morning on a weekday!! They didn't even give me a pen to sign after they ran my credit card. There are so many great breakfast joints around I'm not sure if I can give this place another shot anytime soon.... read more

My Fiance and I go to Hashes & Brews at least a couple times a month. Their breakfast choices are delicious - my "go to" is Chicken & Waffles, His is one of the 6-8 Hashes they have to choose from. We also love their Dinners - My favorite is their 1/2 lb Burger, and His is usually the Skirts Steak Salad, which has a generous amount of grilled Skirt steak... cooked to order, and all kinds of good stuff. They have a very nice variety on their menu, and everything that we have tried so far, has been delicious!! The happy hour is particularly good value; you can make a meal on those delicious plates -- their mushroom bruschetta are my new favorite thing. Their regular plates are generous and well prepared. Tender corned beef topped with sunny side eggs...cooked perfectly and not salty! Nutella Waffle - my daughter scarfed this down, nuff said Sundried Tomato pesto pasta - very good...pasta was cooked al dente and topped with a generous amount of chicken Jambalaya - flavorful and packed with protein...no skimping here Overall, the food was GREAT, the owner and his team were very nice and super courteous and did a great job ensuring the proper social distance between tables. Decided to check this place out on our way to Tanforan. Really enjoyed the look of the building. Inside and out. Definitely a different kind of atmosphere. Our host said we could sit anywhere, so we chose outside. There was a little breeze, but they had the heaters going. Our Host was really nice and she was very helpful. We didn't wanna get too boozy, so we split a Mango mimosa. My girlfriend went with the Fried chicken Benedict. I ended up choosing the chicken fried steak. Both amazing choices. I'm indifferent about how the gravy tastes. But everything was absolutely amazing. Biscuit was so fluffy, and the fried steak was amazing. The portions were so huge, we actually didn't end up eating the rest of the day. My only quarrel was that I feel they skimpped on the mimosa a bit. I've been dying to go to this place since I saw the sign go up! Hashes are my favorite breakfast food! I went this past Friday and it was phenomenal! From the greeting we got as we walked in the door to the wonderful waitress to the quick and delicious food and finally to the goodbye we got on the way out. Very professional place and such a warm feeling being there. I got the Mexican hash and it was wonderful! I'm not big on eggs so I got mine without it but it was absolutely amazing! The potatoes were cooked perfectly and the jalapeños in it were not over the top. It was perfect! The biscuit was my favorite thing! It was very soft and moist! DON'T GO to this restaurant! VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I went personally to the restaurant to reserve a table of 14 for 10am on 11/25/23 and specifically requested right side of the restaurant because we have kids with us. This place was disgusting. When they first opened I ordered the BBQ ribs. They were horrible - dry/overcooked and absolutely no flavor. it was as if they used no seasoning, cooked it as dry as a leather shoe, and then simply poured some jar BBQ sauce on it. I rarely complain about food but I had to tell the manager about this one. He was apologetic and alluded that he had mentioned something about this to the cook in the recent past. He then repeatedly asked/offered me something like a salad so thinking he was comping me as a way to make up for the crappy meal I had so yes I said that I would take a salad. I got a salad with generic bottled Italian dressing on it and to my surprise I was billed for it. I gave this place a second chance several weeks later and got a burger. it wasn't that good - I didn't even like the bun they had used. I couldn't finish it and left swearing I would never return. Some people love this place. Perhaps they are mostly people who go there for breakfast. I mean it's pretty hard to mess up eggs and toast. But for anything else, this place is no bueno. read more

How can grease have so little taste? Everything here, that I've tried, is greasy. The French fries were soggy except for about 5 of them, the bun for the chipotle chicken sandwich was greasy too. They served me half rotted lettuce on my chicken sandwich. How can a sandwich go out with rotted lettuce on it?? The corn beef sandwich had no taste and the fries were greasy on that plate too. My husband and I have frequented here a handful of times. We live locally. We're trying to make it our "Cheers" breakfast joint, where everyone knows our name. We haven't gotten to that level yet, but the owner recognizes us and acknowledges us every time we see him- making headway! The service has always been stellar for us, and that, along with cleanliness are what we care about most... oh yes, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Not the false-advertised kind. The real thing, squeezed that day, golden bright. It's my all-time favorite, and they have it. Some of the food is better than others, but we've been pleased with everything thus far. The Nutella French toast with strawberries stands out in my mind most. I'm a fan, and we'll be back! We still need to level up on the Cheers scale. read more

This is probably our third time coming here since they opened up and decided they deserve a great review. I came in with my family for brunch on April 28th (Sun). The waiter (Lisa) was SUPER attentive and energetic! I'm not exaggerating, she must've had a lot of caffeine in her because I can feel her energy throughout our meal. She was great at keeping our drinks full & brought all the small things we didn't even have to ask for (extra napkins cause kids, noticed we would need extra ketchup bottle, etc). The food here is portioned large and I had their "Pancake Sandwich" which was delicious and filling! This place is like Millbrae Pancake House but with more selection other than just breakfast and more modern with a full bar and flat screen TVs for that sports bar feel. This is a great place to crash with friends for drinks without the overwhelming atmosphere and crowds you get at BJ's, Elephant Bar, and Cheesecake Factory. This is not fully their fault, grubhub delivered my takeout containers all smashed and there was juices all over the place from the veggie hash! I've gone here a handful of times and it always seems like staff are either in a bad mood or short staffed and that's why they're in a bad mood. I've gone here once and realized my server went on break and didn't assign anyone to our table. The service really is hit or miss, but still worth it for me to come for the food. The food is really good. My partner and I have only gone here for breakfast/brunch. Ugh.... just came out of dinner and both our mouths are actually stinging from the salt. Everything was sooooooo salty, I ended up drinking almost 3 cups of water with dinner. The food portions are massive like what you get at chain restaurants in the Midwest, and around the same quality. We got a Monterey hash and a crab cake salad. The crab cake was so fishy I couldn't eat it even though I love crab cake. The hash was super salty and not at all crispy, and came with a spongy biscuit with the saltiest whipped butter ever. One of my great pleasures in life is spreading butter on bread, even white bread, but this butter was inedible. So disappointing. read more

A few minutes after being seated, I saw an employee with his mask pulled down below his nose cough into his bare hand, then he proceeded to touch menus and silverware. He did not wash or sanitize his hands and had his mask pulled down the whole time. I walked out. I felt bad doing this, as I want to support local business and I've had ok meals here in the past. Is it possible to give more then 5 stars to a place? If so I give this place 100 stars. My girlfriend and I came to the Bay Area from Las Vegas for a long weekend vacation. I found Hashes & Brews on Yelp and it sounded pretty good so we decided to check it out for Dinner and right away we fell in love. I'm forgetting our servers name (Colombian bald gentleman who has only been working there for 2 weeks) but he also deserves 100 stars for his service he was funny, friendly and so helpful. We ordered the mushroom bruschetta (I think it's called shroomchetta) which was beyond phenomenal for an appetizer along with a round of drinks, I got the Preach to me Peach (ended up getting 2) it was so good (couldn't taste the alcohol at all which is very dangerous for a drink. My girlfriend got one Blackberry Lemon Drop which was also really really good just pretty strong. In my opinion that's the sign of a good bar/restaurant is if the drinks are decently strong which these were. I have a pretty high tolerance and after 2 of the drinks I got I had a good buzz. Then for dinner we got the Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Pasta (girlfriend) and Chicken Bellini and both were out of this worldly good (our amazing server suggested the Chicken Bellini over the Chicken Marsala. We loved this place so much we had to come back the next day for breakfast/brunch I got the fresh squeezed orange juice which was the best orange juice I have had in quite a while (girlfriend got coffee which she said was extremely good coffee), she ordered the blueberry waffle and I got the crab cake Benedict, and again both were incredible. As much as we enjoyed the rest of our vacation I think we both were the most sad about leaving San Bruno and not getting to go back to Hashes and Brews again tonight and other nights. We both agreed the prices were not bad at all and if we lived in the Bay Area this place would 1000% be our go to date night (or brunch) spot. Next time I would love to try some of the breakfast drinks. If you are in the South Bay Area or in SF (it's only 20-30 mins from SF depending where in the city you are.
