Haute Spot music under the stars.
    Mark D.

Saw Desert Highway at Haute Spot 7/11. Perfect Texas night, clear skies and 84 degrees. As always, friendly and fast table service. Band was the real deal, capturing the sound and spirit of the Eagles. Had a very good grilled chicken sandwich with the works and crispy curly fries on the side. My wife had a new offering, the chicken protein bowl. Love Haute Spot and I'm always surprised when I talk to people who've never been there.

I absolutely love live music and regularly attend shows at venues across the country. I've experienced outstanding performances in spaces of all sizes, and it's genuinely a joy to have a venue like this in the Cedar Park area. That said, the volume here is simply too loud. The acoustic design of the building seems to trap and amplify extremely high decibel levels, making the sound piercing rather than enjoyable. I made a real effort to find a spot where I could clearly hear the music without discomfort, but the only tolerable area was inside. The bands, stage setup, lighting, and seating arrangements are all excellent. The talent on stage deserves to be fully enjoyed. Unfortunately, the excessive volume makes it difficult to dance, relax, or appreciate the music--especially given the relatively small size of the venue. At times, the sound level feels more appropriate for a massive outdoor amphitheater than a space like this. The speaker towers themselves appear to be positioned fine; the issue seems to be overall volume and acoustics rather than equipment placement. I strongly encourage the venue to conduct a thorough review of the acoustics and sound levels. With some adjustment, this could be an outstanding live music experience.

Bought a table for Blues Travelers. Band was great! However, people would just stand right in front of our chairs, completely blocking our view. Red-shirted Event staff did no enforcement of the "don't stand on this side of the cone" thing. Do not buy the table we did if you want to see!!!!!

First time being here because a friend wanted to go see this band. It's a nice venue Texas style with everything outdoors. They do have fans and misters to help cool off the heat. Staff was nice and helpful. Ladies be aware that the purse size needs to be small as they have a box it must fit in like how the airlines have with luggage. They check what you're bringing in and there's security. To get an upgrade to your ticket for a table, that is extra and there was a section to the right of the stage with tables that a few people were sitting at. I'm not sure the difference between those and the other tables which are also reserved with a special wristband other than a better view of the stage. We got there early and even though the upstairs was also reserved for the chairs and view away from the main front area to the stage, we just ate at the railing where there's a small ledge to put your drink and hang on to the food so it doesn't slip off. Then went down to the stage to get a closer look and watch the band. It's very casual atmosphere and the service was fast. I wouldn't recommend the margaritas from the spinning premade frozen machine. It was as if way too much salt was added and made it undrinkable. They did refund me for my but my friend likes salty things and it was okay for him. Maybe a beer or regular mixed drink would've been better. They do have free water in plastic cups available as well as bottled water for free that was in a trough at the entrance. The food choices are limited bar type food but it goes beyond snacks, so that's a bonus. The place is clean and well organized and there are areas to get away from the crowd if it gets too much.

Pita came warm and on point. The white bean hummus was recommended, but I couldn't get past the texture and look (reminded me of raw chicken breast paste). We arrived with our two kids, were seated, and waited over 30 minutes without a single person coming to our table not even to bring water or acknowledge us. We eventually had to stand up and leave because no one ever came. Our previous visits weren't much better. One time, there were only a handful of cars in the parking lot, yet the service was still slow. Another time, we actually had to go looking for our server just so we could place our order. This has consistently been the worst restaurant service we've experienced. It's incredibly disappointing, especially when dining with children. We were hoping this place would become one of our favorites, but after giving it three chances, we've had enough. We will never be coming back and cannot recommend it based on our experiences.

I had the opportunity to hit Rocking J Piano Bar and what a night it was! Rocking J is easy to find off the 183 and parking is plentiful, unlike the horrendous parking adventure downtown. The joint is located in a corner unit off Whitestone Blvd and extremely inviting. Music starts a little later at night and if you want a table you need to reserve one. I arrived at 7pm for the 8pm show and there were a few patrons upon arrival. The joint is clean without that beer-stained floor smell and the bartenders are cool and fast slinging suds. Prices aren't bad and all the people that I met were extremely cool, many different ethnicities were hanging out, while the age group was 30+ so it's not the college crowd. The attire ranged from men in tshirts, flip flops, I saw some "typical cowboy hats" and women in shorts and dresses, up to business casual. It's basically a "come as you are" mentality in a very relaxed atmosphere. Please note while they don't serve food, they do allow outside grub, just bring some for everyone, Also the bathrooms are decent not spectacular however you won't need to run down the street. The non-reserved tables are limited and as the show time creeps closer, they start to fill up but there was standing room. The crowd that was there was a pretty lively crew and seemed like pretty decent people. In the corner is a piano and on my night a drum kit. I can't remember the pianist / singer's name but he was really good while the drummer acted as backup, basically enhancing the songs with a steady beat. The guy could flat out sing and I swear I couldn't stump him with my diverse requests. Among the songs were The Cure - Love Song, Alice in Chains - The Rooster, Jimmy Buffet - Margaritaville, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. Perhaps the jingle from Sesame Street would have stumped him, but I didn't consider it at the time. Overall, the place feels safe with "good folk" who all just want to have a good time. The staff is friendly and fast and the prices fair. I will definitely be back and hope to see you there!

My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. It includes two tickets in a semi private area, a parking pass, two alcoholic drinks each, unlimited non alcoholic beverages, and a full buffet. The view was unobstructed and excellent. There is an elevator that takes you directly to the correct level, which makes access easy. The bathrooms were clean, close by, and had no lines. The dedicated area for food and drinks meant we avoided the long bar lines, which was a big plus. The buffet included salad, vegetables, mashed potatoes, chicken, carved beef, rolls, and desserts. The line moved quickly and the food was enjoyable. The Good While the food was solid, the seating area does not include tables to place your food or drinks. The seats did not appear to be larger than standard seating and there is no additional legroom. (I'm 5'10") That was a bit surprising for a premium package. Although the view was unobstructed, the venue could benefit from additional jumbo screens placed around the arena. The main screen could also be zoomed in more to enhance the experience. The Bad The sound quality was the most disappointing part of the night. The music was too loud and at times you could not hear the artists clearly. Both Anthony Hamilton and Fantasia are powerhouse vocalists who do not need heavy production. Instead of clear, crisp voice isolation, they sounded muffled. After multiple audience complaints, the sound improved, but it was distracting and took away from the experience. The package also advertised dedicated guest services and event staff support. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We could not find anyone to help us locate our seats or answer questions. The only visible staff were those managing the buffet and the check in area. For a premium experience, that was frustrating. Overall Despite the issues, I had a great time with my friend and we truly enjoyed the concert. I would consider using the All In Premium Loge Package again, but with adjusted expectations. Tips * Avoid the main entrance and use a secondary entrance for quicker entry. * If you do not have a bag, use the express line. (We had small clear bags and were allowed to use th express lane) * Download your tickets to your wallet before you get to the event. * The highway exit for the event can feel chaotic with heavy traffic and aggressive drivers. Consider driving past the first entrance and heading to the second exit. * Take your time after the event to avoid the traffic jam. All in all, it was a fun night. With a few operational improvements, especially around sound quality and guest services, the experience could move from good to great.

But the H-E-B Center does a lot of things right. First and most pleasantly surprising, parking was free and plentiful! That alone puts this place ahead of a lot of similar venues. Lots of food options with a mix of recognizable chains like Chick-fil-A and Tim Hortons, along with standard stadium food stands. With so many options, quality and price will vary, but overall prices felt reasonable for a venue like this. It didn't feel like an aggressive cash grab. Bathrooms were about what you'd expect for an arena. You're not getting Buc-ee's quality, but everything was working and functional. I went for a Texas Stars game, which is the AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. It was the Star Wars themed night so my experience may have been a bit unique in terms of atmosphere and activities, but these games are worth going to any time, even without a themed or specialty event. I love that the crowd shouts 'STARS!' when the word comes up during the national anthem, and everyone says 'Thank you!' when the announcer gives the one-minute warning to the end of the period. My biggest complaint was around getting food from the stands that are built into the arena wall (as opposed to the freestanding carts). Some items like hot dogs and nachos are ready to hand over immediately, but many items at these locations are prepared to order, which is great in theory, but in practice it means waiting anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes after ordering. The problem is there's no designated place to wait. Once you step out of line, you're basically standing right in front of the stairways leading into the seating area. As game time approaches, this becomes a crowded bottleneck with people constantly trying to get past you. I wish there was a dedicated pickup spot for made-to-order food, or a more streamlined system so people aren't awkwardly hovering in high-traffic areas. While the H-E-B Center is more intimate than venues like Q2 Stadium or DKR, it still delivers on the energy of a major sporting event, and I recommend checking out a Texas Stars game.
