This is the best banana bread I have ever tasted. My boss brings these in every year around Christmas and they only last about a day or two.

La Espiga De Oro translates in English to Spike Of Gold…read more Whilst this immediately makes me think of the Golden Spike that connected the transcontinental railroad in the middle of the nation, and was immediately stolen by thieves (probably seconds after the ceremonial driving in); I'm assuming in Spanish that this might be a phrase similar to "Struck Gold", but to be honest, I'm not really sure. If it is similar to "Striking Gold", I would definitely say that this Bakery is very aptly named. It's your typical Latin bakery with fist-sized and larger pastries in large glass shelving units with glass doors on the front that are self-serve. You take a large plastic Mens size shoe box and a set of tongs and just go to town. And you really go to town cause everything is like 55-85 cents. It's stupid cheap. They also have hot foods. My goal right now is to make back to try the hot food bar, but we did decide to try one of the tamales while we were there. First of all, it's the largest tamale I've ever had. It's about the size of a small burrito. It also happens to be one of the most delicious tamales I've ever eaten. 2 large chunks of fork tender pork are hiding beneath the mass of impeccably seasoned masa along with some veg and sauce. I get this and a plastic box of assorted pastries. The pan de queso is delicious. It is the most soft and supple pan de queso I've had, it almost completely falls apart as soon as you take a bite. The cheese flavor is very apparent, and it is balanced. I also try a pineapple layered pastry that is quite delicious, and a soft buttery bread with cheese on the bottom as well. It is REALLY good. I've truly never had Latin pastries that were this good. I haven't had MANY Latin pastries, but these were surely the best out of the few I've had. Can't wait to come back and try more.

I said you have them on your menu, and I pointed them out on the electronic menu board above the register where there's a sign that says "Order here". The cashier couldn't care less. I got the chicken Nachos. The nachos had a white crumbly chees on top, which I assumed to be Cotija cheese, which I am very familiar with. Nope. It was the definitely the dry almost sawdust Kraft pregrated Parmesan "cheese". I thought the chicken would be grilled Pollo. It wasn't. The chicken had the texture of reconstituted freeze dried scrambled eggs. I own a food freeze dryer and I am very familiar with that texture. The yellow cheese sauce was definitely from a can. Skip this place. It's terrible

They've been a DMV staple for years and have built a solid reputation in the community. They've since moved into a much larger space, but they're still in Laurel and in the same shopping center. The new location is bright, clean, and has plenty of room to browse their cakes and baking supplies. The cake and cupcakes were fresh, moist, and exactly what I expected. Their designs are always top-tier, and more importantly, they taste just as good. The staff was friendly, and my order was ready on time. It's nice to see a longtime local business continue to THRIVE. In my opinion, they are still the "IT GIRL!!!"

The space is large and clean. Parking is easy! This place has potential but they could improve on their customer service and the floor space design. Overall, I'd recommend! Update: I love that business owner, Ms. Laura responded to my comment so promptly. Oof, I know what it's like to be on a short staffed team and I thank y'all for maintaining a decent respectable atmosphere in spite of the circumstances. Despite that, what you got cooking back there, oh it's something good!!! I look forward to visiting again.

I ordered a mini Oreo Bundt cake. When I first tried it, I took a couple bites and was not a fan. But I came back to it a day later and enjoyed it. The initial taste of the Oreo threw me off. It didn't taste like an authentic Oreo. It was an acquired taste, & I came to enjoy it. The cake was moist and the icing wasn't too sweet. I really appreciate the size of the mini cake as someone who's watching her sugar intake. I also had a sample of their Chocolate Chip cake, that was delicious! I may get a mini size of that flavor next time. +Customer service was very friendly. +No tables for dine in. +I love that they also sell cards and other little gifts making it a one stop shop if you're picking up a cake for any celebration. +Plenty of free parking out front. +Prices are average. $6.77 for the mini. I definitely will be back soon. Hope you enjoy! With love, The Picky Pescatarian
