While flying back to LAX, I accidentally left my work laptop at the TSA checkpoint while trying to keep my family moving through security. I didn't realize it until I was boarding the plane. One of the Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants, Zar, immediately volunteered to go all the way back to TSA to retrieve it for me before the aircraft door closed. He absolutely didn't have to do that, but he made it a priority and went above and beyond to help. I am incredibly grateful for his kindness and willingness to help. This flight was rough. We were delayed two hours. Then we were given some kind of voucher because none of the tvs worked. They cut off several people from getting through security when we're checking in for our flight then everything was so delayed it didn't make sense. The days of leis and good food are over. Hawaiian Airlines is the main airline providing inter-island air travel between the major Hawaiian islands. We've flown them between Oahu to Maui & the Big Island, but have never been to Kauai (yet). On a recent flight from Daniel K. Inouye airport (HNL) to Kahului (OGG), it was a short 100 mile flight taking less than 1/2 hr. You barely get up to cruising altitude, served a prepackaged cup of Passion Fruit/Guava juice and then prep for landing. There is no time in between for snacks. The airfare for inter-island travel is very affordable at a current average of $150 roundtrip. I'll bet that barely covers the fuel plus the juice cup. The planes are the smaller twin engine Boeing 717 (used to be McDonnell-Douglas MD-88) short haul jets that hop back and forth multiple times a day, that they only service them when they land in Oahu. Pro-Tip: Be careful when you open your sealed cup of Passion Fruit/Guava juice because its internal pressure is at sea level while the cabin pressure is at 8000 ft. It will squirt out if you don't open the foil cover slowly to equalize the pressure. read more

Once we got in the air it was good. Good service, good food and clean bathrooms. Here is the real issue. Load all the passengers, then tell them we need to add more fuel so it'll be about fifteen minutes with the plane off so it'll get hot. Then another announcement that we need to get new paperwork, because our load changed and we need it to be legal to fly. Instead of delaying the loading of plane, they made us wait an hour on the plane that was getting hotter by the minute. It's a shame they treat customers this way but this is not the first time they've done it, nor will it be the last. It just makes me question if I will fly with them again... read more

It was a quick flight from Oahu to Maui. I was in a middle seat on the right side of the plane. Before the plane took off the girl on the window seat on the left side of my row started throwing up. She used her bag, her neighbors bag, so I handed over mine & some napkins. I thought I pressed the help button for the flight attendants. Figured after we got into the air someone might ask why I pressed it. Just wanted to get the poor girl some more bags, napkins & a water. Even the lady next to her pushed their button too. After they passed out all the waters someone gave her a trash bag before we landed. But both our lights remained on the entire flight. Very much a third rate experience by current standards. Check in at Maui Kahului for Hawaiian Airlines is ludicrous. Long lines going in all directions and no one to guide people or to actually man the kiosks. What should be a 2 minute experience takes 20...all because of pathetic organization. Plane trip itself wasn't great. Good WiFi, which is all I can compliment them on. Pretty old planes, 'meal on board' was a terrible warm sandwich, and pretty mean with their drinks. Atrocious for a 6 hour flight! There's lots and lots of options going from the mainland to Hawaii; unless you're trying to relive what long distance travel was like in the 90s, I would avoid this company. We had a great experience flying on Hawaiian Airlines. For the flight home to San Diego, we sat in what they call Extra Comfort Seats. Basically they are the emergency exit seats, but there are only two seats per row rather than three which is nice. Also they offer more leg room, which is really no big deal for me as I am a short guy. My wife Becky, however, is tall, so a big deal to her! They weren't first class like our flight into Maui, but we were quite comfortable nonetheless. We loved flying Hawaiian Airlines. read more

Service from Kahului, Maui to San Diego: we arrived a few minutes early which was good. After the snack cart with goodies for purchase, if you are seated in the main cabin, beverages and a one choice chicken sausage with mozzarella sandwich is served. They also offer those of age one complimentary Koloa alcoholic beverage. During the flight they make several rounds of offering water and collecting trash. This plane you need to download the in flight entertainment on the Hawaiian Airlines app. A few prepared passengers had their own movies to watch or digital books or games to play instead. Went to the restroom once towards the end of the flight and not many people were napping but looked pretty bored. A couple families walked their baby or toddler down the aisle. You might want to bring your soundproof headphones just in case you have 3 loud yackers in front of you . Our Flight was smooth and got us safely to our destination. Thank you flight crew. read more

Booked a return flight OGG-LAX recently and was pleasantly surprised. I usually fly HA inter island and Alaska to the mainland as they are cheaper. However I used some HA air points for one leg so it cost me $158 for the entire trip. I was in the second to last group boarding and had no trouble finding a place for my backpack and the plane was a 2/4/2 seater, tidy and newer, with a Starlink for customer use. I was surprised when the drinks cart came around to find they were serving a complimentary hot sandwich! Nice touch Hawaiian, the only airline I've flown to the mainland with since the pandemic that offers something more filling than snacks on a 5 hour flight. However it was meat both times so I couldn't eat it - a veggie offering would be fantastic if HA are reading this :) They sell alcohol and you get the usual free soda/juice/coffee drinks, along with a taste of HI Pog, and they were offering complimentary samples of Mai Tai to those over 21 also. The staff were excellent, at the gate and during the flight, exuding that friendly laid back HI vibe from the islands, yet professional and customer service focused. The only thing I thought could be improved upon was a blanket as it was really cold on the plane by the window and I'm used to HI temps. Most airlines stopped providing blankets during the pandemic and HA now sells blankets which I found a bit nickel and dime time. So, take an extra warm sweater or a blankie for the trip if you feel the cold. Both flights were great and I would definitely use HA for future flights using points to the mainland. PS (I signed up for a HA credit card on board a few flights ago and earned 70,000 points instantly, which I added my existing points to and managed to nab a return flight from HNL - Japan for $125 ! I love this airlines! I flew to Maui from SFO then back. The people are so nice! On our way back from Maui to SFO I had a panic attack because I thought we were going to miss our flight. When we got there we were told to go to another line at the airport and when we got there was the wrong line... (airport) not Hawaiian airlines We were last because of the mishap but we made it WHEW! Staff were so lovely and friendly They checked my carry onbag for free since it was a full fight. We had assigned seating and we got the very back which I didn't mind because it was just us two Only downside is your by the bathroom on I'm on the plane right now so praying someone doesn't stink the bathroom up! The flight attendants on both our flights were great! I didn't get to eat because we were in such a rush this morning so I got a small sample box. On the flight here they gave us a breakfast sandwich. Not sure if they do anything on the flight back I'll update! But the flight attendant was so sweet he gave us his own water bottle This is our first experience in Hawaii and it was amazing! We got lucky I got assigned a window seat on the way home. On my most recent trip was 1/6/2024 and I had the pleasure of being flown by Hawaiian Airlines. This is my absolute FAVORITE airline to use when flying to Hawaii. I have used them maybe a dozen times and they have all been great! I had a very rare opportunity this last trip to bid up to First Class! Wow, what a treat that was considering that I normally fly economy. I was actually going to fly premium this but time but jumped at the chance to fly 1st class. From beginning to landing it was 5* service. As soon as you are seated you are offered a complimentary cocktail! Next came IPads and earphones for inflight entertainment, another cocktail and then brunch. Seats are super comfortable! I have never been able to sleep on the plane but I had absolutely no problem. After this experience, I am not sure if I can ever go back to economy!! I'm ruined! LOL!! read more

Sometimes, the longer route gets you there ahead of your original schedule.... Here is my story. I am trying to get to Sacramento. There is only one flight from Honolulu. In the summers, the Honolulu flight will arrive Sacramento close to midnight. I checked a flight from Kahalui to Sacramento and turns out that flight arrives Sacramento at 7:30 ish..... What this means is I will have to fly from Honolulu to Kahalui for my next segment. Well, it worked out well and I arrived Sacramento at a DECENT hour. The staffing at the Kahalui Airport are simply filled with ALOHA. The terminal facilities are not the newest but is clean and safe. There are decent sized sundry store, a coffee shop and a little eatery in the terminal area. Note- Your Honolulu TSA check in is valid if you're heading out on Hawaiian's flights to the continental US Note 2- I admit Hawaiian has had internal POS system changes causing major issues. In all my years of traveling, I've never experienced such awful unwelcoming customer service for my flight needing to be changed to dealing with their lounge. I was ill after an emergency room visit and changing my flight, and despite buying a refundable nonstop ticket they still charged be 700 to get the same flight the next day. From there, I needed a place to sit as a priority member in their lounge and my app wasn't working, the woman would not accept me just giving her my priority pass number. Which all other lounges do, so once I finally got into my account to present her with the barcode, she proceeded to deny me access as I wasn't two hours from my departure, sticking to a technicality when I said I board an hour before that, clearly not wanting to let me in. I've flown a lot of airlines, but Hawaiian Airlines just set a new low for customer service. We were traveling as a family of three -- myself, my wife, and our five-year-old daughter -- and somehow we were assigned three completely separate seats spread across the plane. When we asked the gate agents for help (you know, like any normal airline that claims to care about families), we were told the ONLY way we could sit together was to pay to upgrade our seats. Let that sink in: They were perfectly fine with a five-year-old child sitting alone unless we paid extra. the staff simply didn't care enough to help. The attitude from the Hawaiian staff was rude, dismissive, and arrogant -- zero empathy, zero effort, zero accountability. This is supposedly a customer service industry, yet the agents acted like helping a family was some massive inconvenience. If Alaska Airlines really is taking over, I can't wait -- because Hawaiian Airlines desperately needs a culture reset and and employee reset. Took 3 inter-island flights - from Maui to the Big Island, from the Big Island to Kauai, from Kauai back to Maui. No issues, flights were mostly on time. 1 time there was a delay but due to malfunctioning equipment at the airport that grounded all flights in the area for a short time. Flights were short but they still gave a snack if they could and either a small water or juice. Staff was very friendly and nice. Luggage came out quickly and only changed spots a few times. An airline that had many pros but equally as many cons that made my overall flight to Maui mediocre. =PROS= *Meal: flight from SAN to OGG included a chicken tomato pesto bagel, cookie, sweet onion chips and beverage (complementary rum and punch). *Restrooms: plane had four relatively clean restrooms. *Outlets: in the comfort seats, there were multiple places to charge from while the average seat had a USB port for charging. However, I wouldn't pay for the upgrade since it didn't have that much more leg space or changes in seat quality. The pull out table was also very clunky for those with extra room as it came folded so items didn't fit as well as the standard plastic table. *Online Entertainment: a positive with a caveat. Had a decent selection of movies, TV shows, and music but we had difficulty connecting our phones. Thankfully the laptop connection was easier to set-up so we copied the url into our phones. Otherwise, we needed the app (that we didn't know we needed preemptively). =CONS= *Rude Staff: one of the flight attendants snapped her fingers to one of my fellow passengers and pushed people aside when the flight landed. We moved to the emergency section and informed that our bags would be relocated with us so we wouldn't have to wait for everyone getting their items after the landing--they weren't moved. *Cleanliness: upon sitting, I saw a leftover band-aid from the previous flight and during our landing, staff came on midway and started cleaning the chairs while passengers were still on. They started releasing some of the cleansing spray that irritated the remaining people on the plane. In all my previous flights, the attendants consistently came around to collect rubbish while this crew left a plastic bag on the bathroom doors for everyone to drop off. Yes Hawaiian Airlines helped me get to Hawaii but with minimal input. I wouldn't pay extra for premium seats as there appeared to be little upgrade between the base and comfort options. But maybe it has always been like that , I'm just not too much of a traveler. I do wear a mask now just in case we transport another disease. It does not bother while sleeping. Flight from OGG to SMF Original departure time: 1:20p (boarding time: 12:35p) It's 2:35p we're still on the ground. At first we were delayed because we had to wait for the last flight attendant who was on board an incoming flight. Her plane is waiting on the runway to taxi to the gate it was supposed to be in. One hour later at 1:35p she arrives... yay! We give her a hand... that wasn't her fault. We board the plane. All passengers on board, seated with our seat belts on, and we are still grounded. Now they are saying they need to complete some paperwork. Luckily, we are flying out of here because Maui has the strictest Covid-19 guidelines for incoming tourists. Aside from registering with the state's Safe Travels program (which was already a hassle) Maui County has added a new requirement. If you are flying from the mainland you are subject to an additional rapid COVID test upon arrival at Kahului Airport. This was just a layover for us coming from the Big Island and after deplaning we still had to scan our hand carry bags at a security check just to get to our next gate. Still waiting to taxi and fly out of here... it's almost 3:10p ¯\_('~')_/¯ We were told that there was some mechanical issues earlier. Stranded at the airport, I secured the first available flight on the morning of the 31st to reach Maui promptly, purchasing a separate ticket to ensure my departure. The decision to acquire another ticket was driven by the need to guarantee my journey to Maui amidst the chaos and disarray caused by Hawaiian Airlines. Flight delays persisted, leading to a situation where my bags arrived before I did--a perplexing turn of events. Let me delve into the chaos, confusion, and disorganization that characterized Hawaiian Airlines' handling of the situation. Passengers endured over 2 1/2 hours in line at the customer service counter following instructions from the airline's PA system. Subsequently, the PA system advised passengers to call Hawaiian Airlines for quicker rebooking, yet reaching them by phone proved futile. Moreover, all rebooking tasks, including inter-island and connecting flights, were consolidated into a single line, while two other customer service desks remained unmentioned and unattended. The reimbursement provided for the additional ticket amounted to a mere $24.00 out of $184.00, a minimal gesture considering the widespread confusion, frustration, and anger induced by Hawaiian Airlines' disarray. Under the circumstances, a full refund would seem more appropriate. It's evident that Hawaiian Airlines has likely encountered turbulence-related disruptions in the past. However, the distressing and disorderly management of this incident raises concerns. Moving forward, I hope they establish a comprehensive plan to address such scenarios and ensure that their staff are adequately equipped to handle such challenges competently. The question of whether I will choose to fly with Hawaiian Airlines again remains unanswered for now. The decision is to be determined. P.S. One meal was served due to turbulence. This was my first time traveling with Hawaiian Airlines. And I have to share my bad experience with cabin crew. That was really strange situation because I was thinking they are trained to help in situations like that. I had surgery four weeks ago and my doctor allowed me to travel. But I got unexpected bleeding and I got advice to lay down and stay calm. I saw three empty seats in the back and ask her if I can lay down because I don't feel good and she said no because the seatbelt sign is on at the end I was trying to explain to her that I have bleeding, but she didn't even want to listen to me. She just said if you can please go ti your place.. Even when I ask for a glass of water, she look at me like she was annoyed by me. At the end, I figure out that she didn't allow me to lay there because she was sitting on that seat when she didn't do something else. read more

This is possibly the worst airlines I have EVER flown with in over a decade of flying. It took us over 12 hours to get on a 30 minute flight to Kona from Maui. The flight coordinators were INCREDIBLY rude and unprofessional, and repeatedly lied to us over and over about what was going on with the flight. They told us several times wrong departure times. Their managers insisted the staff was at fault and then the staff told us the manager was at fault. The manager was also unprofessional and directed people to get angry at staff uninvolved in the flight. They also refuse to honor Delta or other airlines ticket policies that are through them. This is a TERRIBLE airline and nobody should ever fly it. Joshton in Maui is the most rude and absolutely ridiculous manager. He consistently lied to us about information regarding our flight, and what's worse is he falsely blamed his staff, causing one girl to break down crying. Even then, he refused to take responsibility for his actions. Despite our flight being delayed 12 hours due to incompetent communications on their behalf, they refused to give us food vouchers and then decided to give them to us....5min before places closed. tLdR- unprofessional, rude, and consistently give out wrong information. read more

Hawaiian Airlines is an incredible experience. I walked right up to the kiosk, checked my baggage and, got my boarding pass, and a gentleman came over and took my luggage for check-in and directed me to my gate. The restrooms are very clean. I usually fly Southwest, but I got a better deal on Hawaiian and to be honest with you. The service is better at Hawaiian Airlines. I got up to use the restroom, even though the seatbelt sign was on and I didn't get reprimanded not once. The food service came immediately and consisted of an egg and sausage sandwich, which was halfway decent. I mean, you gotta be really hungry to enjoy it but it's better than a lot of other airline meals that I've had in the past. The other thing I appreciate about Hawaiian Airlines is they walk throughout the cabin with bottles and cups of water to ensure that all of the passengers stay hydrated. On this particular flight, I don't even think it was 20% full so I had an entire road to myself and was able to lay down and take a nap. I do suggest Hawaiian airlines, especially for their excellent service. read more

Which airline gives you a good workout? Hawaiian airlines. The walk alone to the terminal is about 15 minutes. Expect delays on this airline but comfort helps balance everything out. Flying to the islands we sat on the runway after landing for about 45 minutes because there was nowhere to go. Coming back we sat on the runway for take off for 45 minutes because the toilets were not flushing properly. If you are not willing to pay for First Class at least pay for the extra comfort seats that give you an extra 3 inches of leg room. A light meal is always provided along with a snack. My biggest complaint was they took/threw away my sealed Coffee PB and J in my carry on, then opened up my coffee and tested it. To make things even worse I was able to re-buy it at a giftshop inside for even more money. If your looking for pineapples they don't sell them at this terminal. read more

This place is frustrating. Yes they get me to Hawaii but the calls to customer service are ridiculous. And it's not because the people don't speak the language, it's because they don't answer my questions. Example 1: I asked about a flight and could only see times from 6 am to 11:30 am. I wanted to know how to find the afternoon flights. The customer service person wanted to know when I wanted to leave. I didn't know because the price, number of layovers and so on are used to make my decision. She kept trying to get me off the phone. Now, I was on my Chromebook, my work laptop, my husbands mac book, and my phone. So, under the guise of transferring me, she hung up. I called back and spoke to a manager who explained that there were no afternoon flights. None? Why didn't the first person tell me? The manager took notes to send to this other person's manager. Example 2 - I need a gluten free meal. So I have to call 7 days ahead of time to order it. The problem, getting through to order it. Can't we specify that we want one when we buy our ticket? I can tell the gf people because we don't eat the meal, and order extra chips. Example 3 - The gluten free snack box is $8. What? And if the hummus didn't have liquid running from it (gross), I probably wouldn't care. But I do. Example 4 - They claim the flight is full but every other seat is empty. If you want to distance, thank you and goddess bless because I want to too. We've been flying Hawaiian Airlines not consistently for a few years, and we just flew direct from OGG (Kahului, Maui) over to LIH (Kauai) and back to visit our friends. That's why we had decided several weeks ago to book our return flight to SAN (San Diego, CA), on a non-stop from OGG. When I booked, I got seat 12B, and Judy got 11J, a window seat, which she prefers. Fast forward to just an hour ago, after I received an email from Hawaiian suggesting that we check in, and according to that email, our seats were still what we had paid for. So, I started to check-in to see if I might be able to move myself next to her. However, when the seating assignments showed up, her seat had somehow magically been moved to 45H ("back of the bus"). If I had been flying by myself, I would just roll with it, but when she and I travel together we want to be close to each other. I immediately called Hawaiian Airlines support, and got a nice lady who looked into it, confirmed Judy's original seat, and also confirmed that somehow it had been rebooked out from under her, and she had been reassigned a seat at the very back of the plane. After another 30 to 40 minutes of periodic "hmm"ing, and contacting her own support, she came back with a message from her own support suggesting that I had changed her seat myself. I politely corrected her and said that is not what happened. She can ask her technical support to confirm my session logs that as soon as I saw that my wife's seat had changed, and before clicking any seat changes for myself, I called the airline support line. After some more "hmm"ing, I finally asked her to confirm whether or not she could reinstate my wife's original seat. She confirmed that she could not, and then I asked her to cancel this flight, and we would be taking another airline, where we could sit next to each other. I'm extremely dissatisfied that my wife was bumped to the "back of the bus", even though we had already paid for that seat, including the upgrade price.
