Bottled water and large entertainment screen in first class
    Steven H.

We had a fantastic experience with American from Kahului to LAX. I see that many of these bad reviews are related to either the airport itself (i.e. a dirty bathroom?), another American airport, the AA app, or "old planes". If you are flying to/from LAX to ANY Hawaiian island you will be on Americans brand new Airbus A321 aircraft. They all have leather seats in both cabins as well as large screens with free movies and entertainment. If you are flying to/from Phoenix keep in mind this is an old US Airways route and you may get that "old plane" that some are complaining about. We checked in about 90 minutes before departure time and there was no one in line. We were though security in just a couple minutes as well. The boarding process started right on time and we even left early. We were lucky to be sitting in First class thanks to our miles. We had a large Dasani bottled water at our seat (like coach) and a nice leather seat with a big screen. The food was very good for "airline" food. They served ahi tuna on rice, a salad with lilikoi dressing and hoisin short ribs with mashed potatoes along with warm taro rolls or hawaiian rolls. I was pretty impressed with the quality of the meal. A fully loaded ice cream sundae with macadamia nuts was offered for dessert. The flight attendant working up front provided evreryone with great service for the 5 hours back to LAX. I would not hesitate to book American again to Maui, we had a great experience.

This old plane. Showing its age. Us hasn't been around in two years.

Don't fly AA out of OGG. AA puts the worst planes on this route... Beat up seats, old planes that show their age, and really awful configurations. Right now I'm sitting on a plane from.... Guess it?!? ATA!!! No individual tvs and awful configuration straight out of a nightmare. This is a leisure heavy route so that makes sense but I really recommend flying hnl to dfw where you get a full lie flat at least. AA needs to invest a bit on this route! Torture tube route!!

As it is a short flight I usually buy el cheapo tickets so I don't get to choose my seat. I was in the last group on the plane and easily found an overhead place for my backpack. Outward bound I was lucky to score an exit aisle seat! Yay, perfect seat without having to pay extra :) The plane was new, well equipped, offered a good selection of free drinks and snacks (cookie, pretzels, sun chips or health bar - no nuts!) along with movies on a seatback screen. Every member of staff was friendly and when I ordered a tonic it came in a small can so the cabin crew member gave me 2 to get a full glass :) Fevertree tonic, my fave and expensive on island! LAX to OGG was a middle seat but I was el cheapo so I wasn't worried. Same great service and staff and a newer plane. The gates for Delta at OGG are at the end of the concourse so you have good walk to stretch your legs and there are a few convenience stores to buy a coffee and snacks at that end too. I was happy with the cost of my el cheapo flight = service and flight. I will happily fly Delta again.

Previous flights to Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island had always been on Hawaiian Airlines…read more I decided to try Alaska Airlines to fly RT between SeaTac and Kahului airports on 8/26/25 and 9/2/25. It was great to have direct flights. However, for a 5-6 hour flight this was a bit spare and cramped. Gone are the pre-pandemic amenities like magazines, movie/music entertainment, pillows/blankets, and food. SEA to OGG - two beverage service with a Biscoff packet, water service, agricultural/customs form, and heavy pitch for the Atmos card (Alaska had recently bought Hawaiian). Overpriced snack boxes that can be prepaid or paid by card during the flight, subject to availability. OGG to SEA (overnight/red eye flight) - one beverage service with a pretzel packet. Then dimmed lights until we landed 7am local time. My brother who flew ahead via Hawaiian Airlines described his flight experience which was in stark contrast: generous beverage service and actual meals served - generous deli sandwiches. Alaska Airlines could do better. I remember the good ol' days flying to San Francisco, then Alaska got a bit streamlined flying to Baltimore and Milwaukee, but now even more spare with this recent experience to Maui. The flight attendants and airport staff encountered at Kahului are great. But the overall Alaska Airlines experience was kind of meh. This does not bode well for the Hawaiian Airlines merger/takeover.

The gate agent at Maui was sweet and helpful. Hubs came along to Maui then left to return to Honolulu. The flight was smooth, no turbulence. No movie screens so most passengers even little kids were prepared with downloaded shows to entertain themselves. I am SO glad I got on the flight to visit Doc cuz s wonderful 3 day weekend was in store for visiting Tijuana, Animal Safari Park at San Diego Zoo and spending some precious moments with sweet grandpup.

I do apologize that you did not understand me, but I would like this to be known. Please listen to what the customer is saying, as I understood what you were saying, but you did not even listen to me. If your company has the ability to text when something has arrived, then I feel you should have the ability to text when something is being delayed. That is all I have to say. We have been sending boxes of flowers to Maui for a very long time now and I do realize that humans luggage comes before freight or packages on a first come first serve basis but let me say again if you can text when it arrives you also (although you told me that there is no way to do that if it is delayed heard you loud and clear) then please let your company know that as customers we need to be informed of delays. These boxes were perishables: crown flowers 6000 of them, that just sat at the airport, and our recipient on Maui was waiting for them.
