Previous flights to Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island had always been on Hawaiian Airlines. I decided to try Alaska Airlines to fly RT between SeaTac and Kahului airports on 8/26/25 and 9/2/25. It was great to have direct flights. However, for a 5-6 hour flight this was a bit spare and cramped. Gone are the pre-pandemic amenities like magazines, movie/music entertainment, pillows/blankets, and food. SEA to OGG - two beverage service with a Biscoff packet, water service, agricultural/customs form, and heavy pitch for the Atmos card (Alaska had recently bought Hawaiian). Overpriced snack boxes that can be prepaid or paid by card during the flight, subject to availability. OGG to SEA (overnight/red eye flight) - one beverage service with a pretzel packet. Then dimmed lights until we landed 7am local time. My brother who flew ahead via Hawaiian Airlines described his flight experience which was in stark contrast: generous beverage service and actual meals served - generous deli sandwiches. Alaska Airlines could do better. I remember the good ol' days flying to San Francisco, then Alaska got a bit streamlined flying to Baltimore and Milwaukee, but now even more spare with this recent experience to Maui. The flight attendants and airport staff encountered at Kahului are great. But the overall Alaska Airlines experience was kind of meh. This does not bode well for the Hawaiian Airlines merger/takeover. read more

Horrible airlines. Snotty agents at the gate. Beware, you need to walk on eggshells when taking to them, mean and vindictive. They sat my wife in the front of the aircraft (row 12 ) and me in row 33 (last row). As far apart as possible. It's well known own that the last row in an A330 is a nightmare. The seats don't recline, your back is against the bathrooms so the smell and sounds are awful. The last row is crammed in so tight the tray tables pressed into your stomach. But the worst part is how they separated my wife and I the full length of the aircraft. What a rote thing to do. They ruined our trip. read more

I caught Alaska Air from Maui to San Diego. I had a fast connection first flying from Honolulu to Kona then Kona to Maui on merged partner Hawaiian Airlines. The gate agent at Maui was sweet and helpful. Hubs came along to Maui then left to return to Honolulu. The flight was smooth, no turbulence. They had a beverage service and a few water offerings during the flight. You can buy a meal for $8 on board. No movie screens so most passengers even little kids were prepared with downloaded shows to entertain themselves. I am SO glad I got on the flight to visit Doc cuz s wonderful 3 day weekend was in store for visiting Tijuana, Animal Safari Park at San Diego Zoo and spending some precious moments with sweet grandpup. read more

One of the worst airlines I've traveled with when going to Hawaii! Everything was wrong with this flight. Seats, food, services. Only one of the stewards was nice. They seated us in the wrong seat and didn't have our food and the creamer I put in my coffee was rotten!!!! don't recommend this airline. read more

Great ground staff. Alaska is seems to operate about the same as Southwest. You can pick your seats but you pay for luggage. Other than that it's close to a push. Inflight service was all over the board. I find it's a level below Southwest. Slight nod to Alaska for gate staff. read more

We were scheduled on a flight back to Atlanta on Christmas Eve but our connecting flight to San Diego got significantly delayed, so we were to ~stay at the Kahului Airport for 10 hours and then spend a night at the Seattle airport. Thanks to the quick thinking and kind staff at OGG, we weren't just able to get back home in time for Christmas, but our Christmas was also saved as we were able to go on a much earlier connecting flight to Seattle and stay a night at a hotel rather than the airport lobby. All the Alaskan Airlines staff were so friendly (both in the airports and on flight), and specifically I hope to extend a heartfelt mahalo to Yaya, Nina, and Eseta of OGG for saving our Christmas! read more

Alaska air is one of the worse airlines I've ever flown on. It's such a downgrade that Hawaiian air has been taken over by Alaska. Service is terrible on every level. Need customer service you better have 3 hours to wait on hold IF someone answers. Flying on a 5 plus hour flight better make sure you have some water. In flight service is pretty much non existent. 2 hours into the flight and not even an offer of water. All the flight attendants have done so far is auction off pre bought food not even knowing what seat it goes to! October 18, 2025 flight 805 your flight attendants are a joke. Rude and lazy. My first experience with Alaska Airlines (back in 2019) was by accident after something happened to our flight from PDX to OGG on American Airlines. We automatically were rebooked on Alaska, and I really liked it. Service from the flight attendants were much more relaxed compared to stuffy American. Fast forward to 2023 and my spouse booked us on Alaska instead of our usual American for our weekend getaway to San Francisco. The holding room at OGG is tiny and outdated but a renovation is currently in the works. All was going well until the pilot announced that a piece of metal was hanging off the engine. Yikes, stripes. We deplaned, got back on and left 3.75 hours later. Better safe than sorry! We sat in first class which was clean and comfortable. Lots of legroom and wider seats but they didn't lay flat like in the bigger jets. Food was airline-average. Tito's vodka available! No movie screens but entertainment was available via the plane's WiFi and website. Service was friendly. OVERALL: Still an Alaska Airline fan! read more

Some of the friendliest flight crew but the cabin itself seemed a bit run down. Unfortunately I was seated in the very back, leading to a shortage of snacks. They had ran out of pretzels by the time they reached me so they apologized with an extra Biscoff instead. My tray had a strange residue on it and my seat came with spilled Skittles. However, upon leaving the plane, the cabin was in such havoc that I seemed appreciative that that was all I experienced. The entertainment system had an extensive collection of TV shows and movies at the expensive of recency. There were plenty of classics to be watched but my companion was quite disappointed that Dune wasn't available. There was an USB port for each chair but I had difficulty with consistent charging as the connectivity fluctuated. An amazing perk as a Sprint customer was that we had free WiFi with phone number verification. Landing and take off were smooth and I had no complaints with the overall flight. Cleanliness was definitely an issue and the lack of snacks was underwhelming but Alaska made well with hospitality and free WiFi. If you're with T-Mobile or Sprint, this was worthwhile for a longer flight but otherwise I would try a cleaner, consistent airline. read more

On 7.29.23 myself, my cousin and 92 year old blind aunt made the trek from SAN to OGG. The airline crew was amazing,professional, friendly and truly did their best to assist with the challenges of traveling with an elderly, disabled loved one. Although it was a full and turbulent ride the staff and pilots were amazing. They continually checked in on the guests. When it was safe the staff came around multiple times to offer drinks and snacks. It was a little difficult at first to enjoy the on flight entertainment but, as soon as I was able to connect everything was smooth sailing. In all I landed safe and sound with no issues with my luggage or anything. Mahalo for all that the Alaska airlines does to get people from place to place everyday. read more

They told us they purposely chose not to put our luggage on the plane because they had too much.. so they picked our car seats to get left behind. Never again. What a nightmare airline. Our go to airline from the mainland to Maui (OGG). There are many flights to choose from and their fares are reasonable. We love the nonstop flights. The services can be improved. This latest flight from SD to OGG was kind of crazy. Our gate (51) was at the farthest end of the terminal. After a long walk, we were told the gate was changed to 33. When we got to gate 33, the plane wasn't there yet. We had to wait another hour before we were able to board. The staff seemed to be short on patience on this flight. They kept telling passengers to go back to their seats when there was very little turbulence. I give them a pass this time since most of our flights with Alaska Airlines were decent. read more

Just got major delayed. There is a brush fire on the island. The highway was just closed. We are told the flight crew is stuck on the closed road. This is ridiculous because as a passenger we are required to show up 2 hours before the flight. Every passenger is here and ready to go, except the flight crew. This means the crew was going to show up at work "right on time"? Crazy to me. Show up early and get shit going. Get yourself here before the plane takes off in order to be ready. If we got here 2 hours early with our babies and kids, yes, during the fire, then you should too. Absolute bull. read more

This flight both going and coming were good compared to many a past of course pre Yelp days. Staff was friendly at both airports. With most traveling people are either first timers or it has been a while since they have flown. So when the general seats are called they storm the gates. I have seen where it is best to call the back forward as facilitates those stragglers first. Staff can be reassuring travelers that all will board. I will keep the airline in mind for our next travel plan. read more

We use Alaskan Air for the majority of our travels. I love the cleanliness, the staff and the aircrafts. This trip to Maui was a rough one. My husband broke his neck surfing and we couldn't fly right after. I called Alaskan air and immediately they had multiple options and waved all our costs. On the day we were leaving, something happened with the cockpit switch and it delayed the flight a few hours. We not only relieved an Amazing apology from Alaska airlines. We were updated and treated with great service. The crew was amazingly positive the whole trip and gave us $12 a person to eat in the airport as well. I am amazed at the personality of this airlines and we will 110% only be flying Alaskan. Good job team. read more

No monitors on the planes, they do offer rental tablets if you want to watch a movie to TV show for a small fee. if you have a smart phone or tablet, you an view some free content over wi-fi. Flew Alaska from LAX to Maui. They only have two gates in Maui, so if your flight is delayed for any reason, they can't accommodate any other planes until those two gates clear with their flights. We had to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours until we were finally able to deplane. The plane ran out of water for passengers during that time. Now flying back to LA and we are delayed in leaving, although I see via Flightradar24 app that an Alaska Airline flight (same flight we arrived on) has been stuck on the tarmac in Maui for over one hour now, and a second delay has been announced. I'm assuming the plane on the tarmac is our return flight. Never, ever, ever fly Alaska Airlines to Maui. Lesson learned. Always flew Hawaiian in the past with zero problems or delays. read more

From the get-go, the Alaska employees were friendly, helpful, and gracious. They were warm, and welcoming. Also on time. No complaints on my end. They did a good job in making you feel welcome. First time flying Alaska Airlines. Fabulous experience. Our of RDU (Raleigh, NC) to OGG (Maui, HI) we chose a single airliner. The pilots in RDU were preflight checking and heard our 9 year old was flying for the first time. They welcomed him to the cockpit for a picture and gave him airline wings! The staff was incredible (clearly the employees feel appreciated as the gave more than what was expected). Luggage followed timely and any delays were met with helpful people that ensured our connections were made. We had a reroute for fuel (due to storms in RDU on the return leg). The pilots were quick to call for fuel and the staff worked quickly explaining and providing assistance. We will be flying Alaskan end to end, wherever they have a presence. My only suggestion would be more awareness of pre-ordering amenities and long flights a better selection of premium items. We flew D class and it truly felt like a first class experience. Highly recommend flying Alaskan. We flew 737-900 series mostly. Thank you Alaska airlines for the wonderful experience and timely arrivals for our trip! read more

I really wanted to like this airline. My favorites are Hawaiian and Virgin. Now Virgin is being bought out by Alaskan. I even got an Alaskan CC to replace my Virgin card. So I flew Alaskan for the first time. I booked first class. What could go wrong? Well no foot rest and a four inch recline to start. Not first class comforts. The seats were worn and not comfortable or even spacious. Service was lacking compared to my favorite choices. I walked up to the attendant to make a request. She said sure. 30 min later she remembered me. I hope they adopt Virgins customer service and experience. I would only want to fly the virgin planes. They are much more comfortable. First world problems but we pay for this stuff. LOL. read more

They seem safe and have nice flight crews. However they are slipping in how their gate people treat you and worse how their mileage program treats frequent fliers. Lots of restrictions and fees creeping in. Hopefully they will improve when they finish their merger completely. They seem strained. Their CEO is beating his drum a little bit much. I have flown on every major airline and this was the WORST customer service I have every received! My fiancé and I were flying home to San Diego. We checked in at the airport and were at the gate an hour and a half early so we decided to grab dinner at the cafe just down the way that was within earshot of the intercom. When we arrived at our gate at 4:21 we were informed that Alaska has a "strict 10 minute cutoff policy" and that we had missed our flight by 1 minute. We asked when the next flight was and they said not until tomorrow afternoon!!! We explained that we could not miss work tomorrow and needed to get on the flight and that to have us waste 24 hours of our time and money to re-book a hotel and re-rent a car over a 1 minute technicality was unreasonable and poor customer service but they did not care. I asked to speak to the manager and, at first, they said no and that I could speak to the 'supervisor' on duty. I said no and insisted that I speak to the manager, however the woman they sent down admitted she was not the manager that the manager had already left for the day (before 5 PM). She offered no remedy and simply repeated that they "have a very strict policy" - very frustrating! The bottom line is they used a (1 MIN) technicality to prevent us from boarding our flight with no consideration of the repercussions and cost it would have on us. The facts are: We checked in at the airport - they knew we were there. They did not give us the courtesy of a final boarding call. There were still passengers on the bridge boarding the plane. Their "strict policy" is not printed anywhere on the boarding pass. Because we were 1 minute after their (unknown to us) cutoff, they cost us 24 hours of our time and over $1,000 in additional expenses and loss of income. Ironically the flight we had to catch the following day was over an hour late - horrible experience all around and the staff at the Kahului Airport should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Had a pretty good experience with Alaska on my most recent trip to Maui. Both of our flights were on-time. On the way to Maui, the plane was fairly empty, and we had lots of room to stretch out. They also gave us free a free mai tai and Hawaiian juice on the way in. We were able to snag exit row seating for our red eye home, which was nice. The crew was friendly and helpful. Wish they had blankets for the redeye. TV screens on the plane would be nice as well. While we probably paid too much for these flights, in the end, the experience was pretty good. read more

Simone and I flew Alaska, as we always try to (full disclosure: we have the signature Visa card and LOVE it!), from Oakland to Maui OGG, Aug22! You may recall that was one of the most uncertain air travel days of 2018 to the Hawaiian islands due to Hurricane Lane progressing to a Cat5 hurricane! It seemed to only be getting worse! It was our wedding to be held there the following Tue. We got up at 4am Thursday morning wondering if we would be flying into, and asking all our other 40guests, to fly into harms way. And trying to decide if we should cancel the whole trip and instruct our guests to cancel. We decided to consult Alaska Airlines by showing up and seeing if they would fly that morning at 7am to Maui. They would be the higher power who's plans we would follow. Captain Andy greeted us at the gate and gave all 23 passengers a presentation on the hurricane, the details, the minimal risks with flying toward it, the reassurance that it would be one of the smoothest flights we'd probably experience ever! Ha! Andy you ROCK! We also got to visit with him upon landing and thank him. Hope to see you again Andy! Simone and I, as Holly said, are totally part of your "fan-club" hahaha Holly was an exceptional flight attendant and a joy to interact with. The whole crew was fantastic. We got upgraded to 1st class - our first 1st class experience with Alaska and we loved it!! Thank you thank you thank you, for giving us certainty and assurance on such a volatile 24 hours leading up to departure despite a Cat4 hurricane looming seemingly menacing off the coast. It's a love hate for me. Love - This is our first time flying Alaska airline. I like the idea of not having to stop for a layover in Oahu. They offer many direct flights which save us time and give us more time to spend at our destination. Hate - they do not serve hot meal in flights. You have to purchase them (which I think its lame) Hawaiian airlines offer hot meal in flights. You also have to rent a tablet from them which cost $10 to watch movies or TV. Hawaiian airlines do not make you because you can watch whatever from your own seat! Will I fly them again? - Maybe if I really want to save time read more
