    Mac Salad?
    Roy H.

I don't normally leave reviews of places I've patronized, but the food I received via delivery last night was so bad, I have to leave one. I ordered the large mix plate with the Kilauea Chicken and Luau Pig, 2 extra sides of mac salad because I thought "even if the meats aren't great, I love mac salad and it's hard to screw up", along with a small serving of veggies & rice. Let me tell you, they screwed up that mac salad and pretty much everything else I ordered. When I got my delivery, the first thing I tried was the mac salad, and what a let down. The mac salad was HEAVY , not light like you would expect mac salad to be. I'm referring to how dense it was. I'm not even sure what was in it that resulted in such a dense mac salad. If you boil some macaroni at home and then add mayonnaise - not smothered in it, but enough to coat everything, you can imagine how light or heavy that would be. The large container that the mac salad came in was heavy! On top of that weirdness, the salad was salty - not a little salty, but SALTY. I love salt more than most people, but the salad was ruined by how salty it was. Dud # 1. I then moved on to the mix plate, hoping the salt issue was limited to the mac salad... No such luck. Not only was the chicken salty, it was dry. There was a little bit of 'bite' to the chicken since it was supposed to be the spiciest version of chicken, but I could have coated some dry chicken in tabasco sauce and it would be spicier than what I got. Dud # 2. I then tried the pork, which looked like it would be good, but guess what? SALTY. Beneath the salt, I could almost taste what real roasted pork was like, but it was overwhelmed by the salt. Dud # 3. Lastly, I tried the small order of vegies with rice. When I opened the container, the smell was something I wasn't expecting. It smelled like, what I thought at the time, was what I imagine steamed green beans would smell like, not what freshly steamed veggies would smell like. I went ahead and added a large dollop of butter followed by a bunch of soy sauce. At least the veggies & rice weren't salty, but they weren't good. All I can describe the taste as being is, what I imagine steaming a generic bag of frozen vegies would taste like. I saw in the comments that someone else complained about the veggies also. Dud # 4. I ended up rinsing the luau pork in water, then wringing it out in a bunch of paper towels. Then I microwaved it a bunch, to help remove excess water. I tasted it again and saw that the saltiness went down a bunch and would be safe for my dog to eat in small quantities. I'll use it as a topper to her regular dog food. Look at the picture of the mac salad - it looks like it contains dried up macaroni, but it didn't from what I could tell. Also, the color - why would mac salad be dark yellow\brown-ish, as opposed to a lighter yellow color like you would expect mac salad to be? The picture even looks 'dense'... I see that the company has a bunch of locations in multiple states, so there must be something in the food that makes the company successful, or at least looks successful, so maybe my experience is due to this being a franchise store, an 'off' day, an 'off' employee, or all three! Whatever the reason, I don't think I'll be eating their food anytime in the future. I lived in Los Angeles for almost 30 years before moving back to PDX 8 years ago, so i may be used to fast Hawaiian food from L & L or the food I've had in Hawaii... but regardless, I can guarantee that Hawaiian food isn't supposed to taste like salt. I see that the business owner, "Hawaiian B", responds to most comments left for the store and I would suggest they try the mac salad (and other foods) at the L & L location in Beaverton (which I just learned existed - I didn't think L & L was in Oregon - hopefully the food was as I remember it in LA) if they're not familiar with fast Hawaiian food. I'm a big fan of L & L's mac salad, so it looks like I may have to drive 45 minutes to visit the location... Or maybe not, looks like L&L has a lower average rating than Hawaiian Bros - 2.7 vs 2.9.. Oh well...

Gross.. I really hope I didn't eat any of these fly eggs..

Fly eggs in food... Tried emailing them the photos but the email came back.. Fly eggs in the food. Regardless of why! Gross..

Atmosphere: N/A. Takeout or delivery only. Food: Food was delicious and quite filling. I don't even like Hawaiian food much, but this fully hit the spot. Price: I thought the price was very reasonable for the amount of food. Service: Ordered pickup. Food was ready when I arrived. Parking: Street parking in front of the communal kitchen.

I love Hawaiian bros!! This location is weird because you can only order only for take out. There is not store front, you just order at a screen and someone brings it out to you. There are picnic tables outside (I think only 2) but the neighborhood didn't see the safest to eat outside so we just ate in our car. I loved the food though! Can't go wrong with the Huli Huli chicken

    Marie K.

Now I understand why they were offering a buy one get one on DoorDash. Because they probably can't get people to actually buy their food otherwise. It was gross, mushy veggies tasted like they were heated from a frozen bag, so much mayonnaise in the Mac salad, and the chicken looked like tofu. I've eaten Hawaiian food many times and this food was an insult to Hawaiians. Do yourself a favor and go another place or save your money.

Side Veggies come on now smh

The food wasn't the worst the rice was a little overcooked the chicken had good flavor but I couldn't really tell the difference between the two. The side of vegetables actually had flavor but they only gave me onions and what seemed like 1 green bean that they cut up definitely shouldn't be charging extra for that

The location was easy to find, but as with most places out here, can be a little challenging but doable. The place is big. There's a lot of seating indoor and has an outdoor area with bench seating like back home. Already hitting all the positives. The guy at the register is awesome, reminded me of my nephew. He took our order and gave us a buzzer. We sat outside and within minutes our buzzer went off. On the other side of the register is the pickup area. The guy pointed out each entree and repeated what it was. Even though I already knew what the entrees were, I actually appreciated that. It was good customer service. The food was like kanak attak. The portion was humongous. The poke nacho style wonton chips with spicy poke and kalua pig was broke da mout on point! With 3 of us sharing, we couldn't finish it, but made sure we ate all the poke so no left over lol. We also had the meat jun and garlic chicken. They were just as good. Only thing I was not 100 percent happy with was the rice and mac salad. Rice may be fresh but seemed day old to me and the mac salad needed to be thrown out. I did tell the guy. It was starting to have that sour smell. I know they didn't know, but as a local, we know and we have to support each other so everyone stay happy.

The setup is order at the counter and then find a spot to eat. They have a nice covered area outside but it was a bit hot that day so we quickly found a nice table in the restaurant. The food was ready quickly and the portion was epic! We shared an order of poke nachos, a side of Mac salad, spam musubis and a mango mochi square and it was definitely the right choice to share. The poke nachos were unreal. The chips tasted like wonton chips and they gave SO much poke. Delicious. The Mac salad was good as were the spam musubis. We were too full for the mochi after dinner but I worked on it over the next two days and it was so delightful. So moist and chewy, perfect texture. My only knock was how sticky/gross the trash/busing area were. I'm sure that's common with the amount of sauce on each plate but it probably should be cleaned more frequently as it attracts flies. That being said, we will most certainly come back!

Nolan's Hawaii accent is still thick it made me feel like I was back home on the west side for a second (!!!!thank you!!!!) I met some people outside the food stand, a business man from Hawaii and some California people I mistaken were from Hawaii as well, lol. It was an awesome interaction, from the moment I got there I got greeted by strangers waiting for food, to going up to the window and asking "so what? No more nuttin left?" Nolan's response was "Nah I only get mochicko chicken and kalua, you likem?" Haha that was a definite yes! Won't miss out on home food esp if word of mouth was already out there. So I waited a few minutes for my food, and the box was heavy. Haha it felt like when you would eat at your aunty and uncles house and they pack you the party left overs. I opened my plate lunch and I was greeted by a huge portion of chicken, pork rice and Mac salad. And let me tell you, the Mac salad didn't have so much frills like what you would see in a Portland Hawaii food joint. It was sauced, and seasoned. PERFECT! No need for all the extra add ons. As I started eating, let me say that kalua pork was no joke so moist and easy to eat not even close to dried out. The chicken tasted nice and crispy with just enough marinate and fluff. I haven't found this anywhere in Oregon..until here. Yeah sure there's a poke and katsu bar in the shopping center next door... but I take the random food cart in the parking lot any day over something franchised

For the price they were charging, it was not a very big portion. Besides that, it just wasn't that good. A good salmon is normally pink to orange. This salmon was barely pink. I couldn't taste the garlic or the Ponzu at all. The veggies were crisp, the rice was a good quality, but there was just no seasoning. The salmon was very bland. I didn't know if it was just because of the seasoning, maybe they used a low quality or a previously, frozen salmon. I love good salmon. This was not good salmon. For the price I paid, not counting the DoorDash fees because those are added in anyway, I just felt I didn't get my moneys worth. Next time I'm in the area, I will find another place. Thanks anyway.

Price is a little high but when it came out I felt ok with it. I like the Mac salad. Not too cute, just good simple Mac salad. The garlic chicken had a really good texture. Crispy and juicy.
