What's your favorite... With Spanish Rolls to Puto they have a lot to choose from and after fasting for my lab work at Clinical Labs right across the street in Kalihi Medical Building which made it just a bit too convenient I just had to give them a visit. The ladies there are very nice but was trying to sell me a lot of items that wasn't displayed in the front area and just stared at every movement I make making the vibe feeling uneasy though with just so much to choose from I just made a quick decision for the Pineapple loaf and Puto I haven't tried the loaf but sounded like a great shareable item while Puto is something that I do love and decided to give them a try...though one thing I didn't like is I didn't know any of the prices so it was all a surprise. Another thing you do need is bring your own bag...they charge for everything a single plain brown paper bag was $0.26 aiiiiii! They do conveniently open early at 4:30a and with a few parking stalls right in front it's a great stop for some local favorite treats at any time of the day. Thank you! read more

Update on Nanding's Bakery there original location located on Gulick Ave lower ocean side . Always busy and there's only 4 stalls in front of their store . Some street parking although lots of other businesses in the area so could be a challenge . Their Adobo Manapua is good along with their famous Spanish rolls . I've never stepped foot in a Nanding's Bakery before, but have consumed tons of their Spanish Rolls. It must be their most popular item. Whenever any of my co-workers or friends bring me something from here it's always the Spanish Rolls. I can understand why. Their Spanish Rolls are the best. It's very soft, buttery and a little sweet. I can eat so many of them and I don't even like bread. So if you ever stop by Nanding's make sure you pick up some Spanish Rolls. read more

Decent baked goods, but customer service and parking need improvement I stopped by Nanding's in Kalihi around 6:30 AM to grab some baked goods. Parking is a bit of a challenge. There are only four stalls in front, and only three were usable when I arrived. Not ideal if you're in a rush or visiting during peak hours. When I walked in, there was one customer ahead of me placing her order. She mentioned it was her first time there and asked a few questions, but the employee helping her was noticeably rude, rolling her eyes and saying, "Are you done now?" It was uncomfortable to witness. I waited patiently behind the woman, but once she finished, the employee skipped over me and helped a man who had arrived after me. When I finally got to order, her tone was curt: "What do you want?" Not exactly welcoming. As for the baked goods: - Spanish rolls were the standout--fresh, soft, and flavorful. - Arabiki & lupcheong bun was soft but lacked flavor. - Corned beef roll was also pretty bland. Overall, the bread itself is soft and reasonably priced, which is a plus. I'll likely return for the Spanish rolls, but this won't be a regular stop for me. The employee's attitude left a sour taste, and the parking situation makes it more hassle than it's worth. A little more warmth and courtesy would go a long way. read more

This is the 2nd location I have been to on island. Apparently there are 3 total on Oahu. Customer service is just as good as the one located in Waipahu. Parking is very minimal at this location. I have to say, I'd drive to this location cause there is a bit of a difference between the two locations. I will leave it up to you to figure out the difference. I'd hate to mention what it is, cause I'd hate for them to switch it up. Just know, the difference is beneficial to the consumers. read more

If you're craving Spanish Rolls then there is only one place to get it - Nanding. It comes warm when you order it and that's the best way to eat it. They have other baked goods but don't leave without a dozen Spanish Rolls. Service is friendly. There are only 4 parking stalls and street parking is challenging to find. Signage is poor so it's easy to miss. Nanding is one of those IYKYK type of places and now you know. read more

I didn't realize there were so many nanding bakery locations. Not sure how many there are in total but I think we ended up going to 2-3 locations while there cos my son loves the Spanish bread. Make sure to eat it fresh! This location had minimal parking. So my husband stayed in the car while we ran in real quick. read more

I've supported this business for years. But today, 11/17/25 at approximately 4pm, I was not impressed at all. I bought the ube roll, dozen Spanish rolls, and puto with flan. I wanted to share with my friend and asked for a small paper bag. I understand it cost to run a business in today's economy, but to charge 16 cents for a small paper bag is ridiculous!!!! It's about the principle of doing business. Big fail. read more

Hot buttery sweet Spanish Rolls, need I say more! You can never just eat one and you need to eat them hot. They give them to you freshly made so before you start the car and drive I would suggest you get a napkin and grub down. They have other pastries and service is quick just parking is very limited I think I saw 4 spots only. read more

I came on a weekend morning and the parking situation was a little tight. This is in the middle of a neighborhood so you have to park near the residential places. The store is pretty small up front so expect to wait very close to other patrons. I ordered the Portuguese sausage bun, half a dozen Spanish bread, Ube rolls, and a Pianomo roll. A cultural gem in Kalihi as evidenced by the constant stream of customers before 7:00 am. This bakery has been here for decades baking the same delicious Filipino bake goods for the community. It's tiny, but, when you step in you enter a different world. Smiling faces of the staff greets you and you feel delighted to know that soon you'll leave with goodies. Tried the two staples of Filipino baked goods and 1 unique pastry: Fresh Pandesal and Butter Roll, and Spanish or Senorita Bread. The pandesal was good a 3/5 and the butter roll a 2/5. The butter roll didn't have the butter throughout the roll. The Spanish bread is very similar to Starbread's (in California 5/5) offering, a 3/5. It was flat and the sugar to butter ratio was too much butter. They were fresh, tasty, warm and filling. The butter was soaking through the paper bags so use caution where you place you baked goodies. Limited Parking is available in front of the bakery. read more

I always forget to take a picture of the Spanish rolls because my family just gets straight into it haha. But ever since I was a child, my dad would bring a box of Spanish rolls home every so often. So delicious, buttery and soft! For every special occasion at home, I'll pick some up to share and it's loved by all. It's a small bakery with 4 parking stalls, but it's never that busy so not too bad. They keep the Spanish rolls in the back, I assume because everyone who comes to this bakery usually comes for them and will ask, and they make a lot. They're 3 for a dollar, at least I think they still are, which I think is worth it. Decent price for yummy rolls. Party favorite!! Must get for potlucks! They also sell other products and soft drinks, but I never pay attention to them. read more

Great bakery for your Filipino pastry fix! Been coming here for pandesal and Spanish rolls since my younger days. Shop is small but perfect for take out pastries. Smells good from all the baked goods and you can smell the fresh pandesal! Service is quick and very transactional as there's no time to chit chat. Too busy for that. One thing I love here that many overlook is their custard pie. it's my fave! Didn't get it when I came by last week but I got some pandesal and Spanish rolls. Great price and value! Can't go wrong here. The pastries are always on point. Parking sucks when it's busy so be prepared to have someone with you who can jump out and order while you wait on the side street in your car. read more

Bought Spanish roll,balintawak and pork guisado siopao (manapua) . Love their Spanish roll , the balintawak kinda okay coz not too sweet compared to valeros but the dough it's kinda hard. The valeros was soft (malambot but matamis nga lang ) This is the 2nd time that I'm disappointed of their pork guisado manapua ,barely has meat on it . I even told the lady who work there about the last time I bought manapua but she just said "ohh maybe the employee are rushing to make that's why " . I still bought coz maybe it got change but still the same . All you can taste is the bread. read more

Yummy Spanish Rolls! I got a box full as a thank you from a special customer. It was fresh and warm, plenty enough to share with the office which everyone loves. The rolls are super buttery and tastes like it has a thin layer of a buttery sugary crumbed filling. It's easy to eat because of its shape like a mini hot dog bun. Guaranty, you can't eat just one! This is ideal to bring to a special friend or client, Nanding's always have these freshly made and always seem to have available. Great for breakfast or for a snack. The original spot for Filipino Spanish Rolls. When approaching this bakery, the parking lot at the front has 3 spot so it's very limited. However there's early street parking. This is my ultimate go-to spot for delicious, home baked goodies. Came here to celebrate for New Year's Eve. Tonia and Janet and the New Year's Eve crew were so helpful. The atmosphere reminds me of my childhood visiting the bakeries in the motherland. Plenty of variety of choice and flavors. Excited to come back and recommend this place again! read more

I would give this a NO STAR if that ever is an option. This lady employee is very very rude to my mom and her sister (visiting from Vegas). Not a single welcoming voice. Mom just wanted to be nice about how the employee's tone and the employee right away says, "I know, customer always right" very rudely. Not sure if my mom will ever come back to this location, but if she does I hope the employee is nicer. read more

I can never say no to some amazing Spanish Rolls from Nanding's! My gosh! Nanding's has been a part of my life since forever. Whether some rolls at a party, some rolls at the office, or just a mid-day snack - Nanding's always comes through. Their Waipahu location is typically my location of choice because of its geographical closeness. Their staff is always extremely friendly and sweet. They have quite a few options for bakery goods too. As for their Spanish Rolls, which are my bakery item of choice from Nanding's, they are absolutely amazing. Guarantee if you bring Spanish Rolls to any function everyone will know exactly what they are. Actually, everyone is able to recognize their boxes the Spanish Rolls come in. I can't count how many times I've seen someone bring the box from Nanding's and everyone already knows what's inside. One of the other best parts about these amazing Spanish Rolls is their price-point. I forgot how much it should be, but every time I go and order I am shocked at the price I'm given. Love it! LOCATION: They are right on the corner of Farrington Hwy and the second shopping center after Leokane St. You'll see them right as you drive in on the right hand side. Hands down the BEST Spanish rolls on the island. The price is reasonable and the bread is soooo tasty! Parking is horrible theres only 3 parkings in the front so go with someone. That way 1 person runs in and the other can wait in the car, because parking is bad. UNLESS you get lucky and there's parking in the front then. Good for you! Customer service is good. They give you enough time to pick whatever you want. They don't rush you! Their Spanish rolls are sooooo good. Buttery and just baked to perfection. After having Nandings Spanish rolls, I promise, you would hate to eat any other Spanish roll. Ham and cheese is regular. Just a ham and cheese woth bread. But I like it. Its a good snack. read more

Not sure how I don't have a review for Nandings when it is a staple in my family. We honestly go there for one thing and one thing only...piping hot Spanish rolls!!! They are so addicting! It's sweet and buttery! We always be 2 dozen or more. Yes, it seems like a lot, but it really isn't when you can eat 3-4 in one sitting. They aren't very large. When it gets crowded parking can be tough. There's only 4 stalls in front of their building and some street parking. The inside is literally a case of treats and only enough space for a single file line. They accept credit cards and their pricing is ridiculously cheap. This is a great potluck dish or something to bring into work for the day. read more

History

Established in 2001.

The owner, Fernando, started baking breads at home during the night and selling them the next morning at the Bus Stops where there's mostly Filipino hotel workers waiting. On the weekends, he goes to Bishop Garden to sell his products. A visit from the Department of Health made him realized the need to find a commercial place for business. At that time, Paul's Bakery was available, so along with three other partners, purchased the place. It was not long after, the three sold their interests on the business, thus Nanding's, from starting as a Partnership, became a Sole Proprietorship.

Meet the Business Owner: Fernando P.

He practically grew in the bakery. His family owned a bakery in the Philippines, where he was trained even at a very young age the nature of hard work. At the age of 24, he started his own bakery with his girlfriend then, now his wife, Carmi. Unfortunately, the place burned down, but thanks to insurance, they were able to replace the bakery. After a few years, they sold the bakery and started another business, a video rental-coverage-editing shop. In 1996, he migrated to Hawaii, where until now, he resides with his wife Carmi and their three children. They were able to put up another bakery in the Waipahu area, a predominantly Filipino/Asian community. Currently, his 24 year old son, Carlo, helps in managing the business.

It's possible some ingredients were locally sourced and just unfamiliar to our mainland palates, or maybe we simply caught them on an off day. The servers were curt but friendly, likely because the place was packed with tourists.

Sadly, it seemed more folks were there for the pastries though. First off, I'm surprised I found such a fabulous cup of coffee in what feels like the epicenter of tourist life on this island. While visiting another island nearly establishment had signage stating they served Kona and/or Hawaiian coffee, but nearly every establishment's coffee was absolutely awful. Seeing the location I fully expected them to phone in the coffee, but it's clear that coffee comes first here, even if many of the guests are trying to get pastries! You'll be shocked by the line, but just know the staff is efficient and it moves fast. They offer a variety of their own locally roasted beans here, with options for batch brew, espresso drinks and even pour overs (impressive considering the volume of customers). The coffees are well described and the baristas have the additional knowledge you may be seeking when you order, and all in all this went as quickly as I could have expected. Truly, the coffee was delightful, and the fact I was drinking a hot drink on an extremely hot day didn't even phase me. I wanted so badly to bring home a bag of each one, but given that everything is more expensive in Hawaii, these were all 4x the price of the specialty coffee I buy on the mainland and I just couldn't make it happen. What will happen is me telling everyone to visit this shop when they're in Hawaii because it is 100% worth it. Won't you consider opening one in Reno NV?

Since it was their anniversary on Sunday, also got their celebratory funfetti cupcake which also like their baked goods did not disappoint. The croissant base of many of their pastries is flaky. When fresh it crunches with every bite that you take. This time around we had the cinnamon roll, mango danish which had a chocolate mochi filling, and their char siu bun. It's such a neat take to have char siu in a croissant. We are used to having it in the doughy bao bread but in a croissant, savory with a crunchy outside tastes so much better. I love sweet but this one wasn't overly sweet, who would have thought that mango and chocolate pair so well together. It's the summer months, fresh mango on pastries. It was the perfect ripeness. For the cinnamon roll, you honestly cannot forget get their cinnamon roll...It's flaky and again the frosting is not overly sweet. Can't wait to get another box of their pastries again soon.

This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. Even though it was rather busy, we were seated within 10-ish minutes and got their biggest table outside. And right next to their butter roll grill- score! Even my picky nephew was able to find a milkshake and add an egg to their ham and cheese croissant. I got their mahi mahi breakfast and upgraded to get their fried rice. Mahi mahi might not sound like a breakfast food for most, but it's one of my favs that I used to get from their OG location and I hadn't had it in so long. And that's the best thing about Liliha Bakery, there are so many local favorites that you can get any time of day. My mom got the oxtail soup (I got a bit of plate fomo from that). The rest of the table got breakfast classics: pancakes w/ a side of spam, 2 eggs + bacon, steak and eggs etc. The butter rolls here are so good and love that they come complimentary but I do believe there's a charge after the first basket.

The table behind us had to send food back three different times because they kept receiving the wrong orders, and there was about a 30-minute period where our server completely disappeared. We had to ask another staff member for our check and to-go boxes. She also never came back to check on our table or refill our water. Everyone has off days, so we're hoping that's all it was. We'd definitely come back because the food was so good--we just hope to have a different server next time.
