Park on the left with hapua cream and matcha on the right with ice cream at the bottom.

The flavor board you see on the wall here is pretty amazing and the different options for a shave ice. So many good things to choose from. But this time I chose the POG the pineapple, orange guava but no ice cream. My partner chose the matcha with ice cream and he loved his. Mine was good, but it just didn't have the burst of flavors. I was hoping for, seemed to be more muted in this particular selection. Selection. We both ordered the mediums which turned out to be more than we thought we'd need, but we did our best to finish them. I felt like it was a little pricey for the area, but I know things have gone up in the past year or so. Would I go back? Sure, but this time I'm going to try something that really is a mouthful sensation this time.

Hawaiian Ninja Shave Ice can be found on the second floor of a strip mall off Mamalahoa Highway. We asked our tour guide from Greenwell Farms for a shave ice rec, and this was one of his top choices. He knew what he was talking about because including ice cream in shave ice is a game changer! I've never seen this before, but maybe it's a thing on the island of Hawaii? We shared a small Hawaiian Rainbow, but I quickly wished we had ordered a bigger size. The combination of blue spirulina, turmeric, organic strawberry syrup, ice cream, and condensed milk left me wanting more! Mahalo to Hawaiian Ninja Shave Ice.

Great after hiking spot for some dessert! They have lots of different flavors to choose from and three different sizes. I thought a small would be too small for one person but my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I tried the POG and the Ube and both were really good. Great flavor. You can add ice cream to these for an additional $1. Worth the add if you ask me. The ice cream is super thiccc. The counter ladies were friendly. They give you a buzzer that will tell you when the shaved ice is ready. There's seating outside. No indoor seating. They're located on the second floor.

We were in Captain Cook area and decided to stop in. If you're driving by, you need to make that quick left turn into the parking lot or you're going to have to make a u turn on that busy highway. Service was good and they have a patio with table to eat out side. As for the Shave Ice, it's great to see more and more places serving it and Ninja didn't disappoint with natural flavors and the ice was perfectly fluffy. Portions are generous so you may want to share. I'll be back next time I'm on the Big Island.

So good! We had a lot of shaved ice on the island and this was our favorite. Great flavors. Nice people. Good prices. Highly recommend!

Amazing shave ice. Real fruit and no artificial flavors/colors! Tried the POG, Ube Coconut & Blue Hawaii. We will be back!!!

    Ube
    Holly L.

The ube was amazing! Usually I opt for fruit flavors but we saw ube and thought why not? It did not disappoint! The ice texture was fluffy. The flavor was very ube so not too sweet. The size was just right to share with 1 other adult. The shop itself is small. There's only enough space for a few patrons to order inside but there are plenty of tables that the other businesses share that you can use. The service was prompt and good. They were obviously busy but they did take the time to acknowledge, say hello, and let you know they'll be with you after they finish a few of the orders ahead of you. This is probably one of the best shave ice we've had in the state. For some reason, the ice wasn't melting as quickly as other places we've been to. So it allowed us to enjoy and savor rather than race to finish it before it becomes a pool of sugar. We will def return next time!

I didn't think anything could top Ululani's, but for fresh flavors and value, this place does it with ease! We loved it... got seconds... and will be back!

Shaved ice was fantastic, outdoor seating with cover, and the service was pretty quick!

This is a great spot for shaved ice. They make all the syrups in house and you can really taste the quality. I got the Blue Hawaiian which was delicious. Loved the ice cream in that one.

Probably one of the best shave ice places we had on this trip (we had a lot). Delicious shave ice with a lot of flavors. All of the flavors were good and did not taste artificial. Warning, they are a bit slower re: service so be prepared to wait.

    Ube coconuts

Such delicious natural homemade syrups. Excellent customer service.Prices are a little higher but high quality ingredients. Ube coconuts is by far my favorite shaved ice on the menu. I've tried almost all Of them, grew up in Hawai'i eating a lot of shaved ice, it's not like typical shave ice but it's actually so much better. 10/10 recommend this place

The shaved ice was soft & not heavy! The flavors were natural but still perfectly refresh after the beach!

This place was prefect after a day at the beach! Delicious natural flavors, the shaved ice was fine & not heavy

Their lunch hours on other days are 11am-2:30pm and dinner hours are 4pm-7:30pm. It's a popular restaurant, so there is limited seating indoors. According to their website, this is the "Home of Da Garlic Furikake Chicken" so you'll want to try that dish. I ordered the Braised Beef Shortribs off their Specials menu and went with the Twisty Fries as my choice of side. The Shortribs were unbelievably tender but just a tad bit sweet for my liking, and the Twisty Fries were absolutely phenomenal. If we're ever able to visit the Big Island again, Broke Da Mouth will be one of the first spots we come back to!

They're known for their sweetbread and malasadas, but they also have hot food and ice cream. We shared one of their pork platters. It was pretty good. Pork was super tender! There were 2 portions of pork, which seemed a lot, but I was left wanting more. We also got one guava malasada. This one is just their flavored sweet bread, coated with sugar, no filling. It was so light, fluffy, and delicious! Not heavy or oily. Dare I say these are better than Leonards in Waikiki? I regretted just getting one, because getting in that line again to order more would take too long. Oh that's another thing... Your mindset needs to be on island time because you will wait more than 10 minutes for your food. The place is small, but the property is huge. All dining is outdoor in their patio and two gazebo-like structures. There are two lines to place your order, which helps with the crowd: one by the main door, and the other by the patio. If you like up by the main door, you'll find all their sweet bread loaves, rolls, and snacks. If you line up by the patio, you'll find their pastry case. Either way, you're doomed to pick up more than you came there for. This place is a must! Make the drive. It's so worth it!

We asked for the custard-filled malasadas and the aunties in front ranted "why everyone calls it custard, it's not custard, it's vanilla" in a very annoyed voice. We also felt a little rushed while ordering, which caught us off guard. I was expecting a little more aloha and a little less hurry. Now the malasadas? Oh my goodness... absolutely worth the trip. Call it vanilla, call it custard--I honestly don't care because it was delicious. Soft, fluffy, filled with creamy goodness. I'd happily come back for the malasadas. Hopefully next time the aloha is as warm as the pastries. Mahalo!

They're very short and clipped, which I get because there were quite a few people in line, but when we went back up to ask a question, they were not willing to help until we (overtly and somewhat rudely) had to flag them down. Now, it seems like whoever is pouring the syrup is REALLY inconsistent. My shave ice was perfect. Well doused through and through without pooling in the bottom. However my mom's coconut was literally made with maybe a tablespoon of syrup. 80% of the entire ice had no flavor at all, and when we asked about it, they were quite rude saying "you can see some right here". So for that, you're kinda rolling the dice, I suppose. If it's close by, might be worth a shot, but I'd caution driving here form further away since it seems like you don't really know what you'll get.
