Odd experience here. Was INCREDIBLY excited to stay here, and in a few ways this is a great spot…read more Wonderful location, and great access to watersports like SUP and kayaking. That's where the good ends. The bathroom isn't great, there isn't a light over the shower so it's quite dark in there, plus it wasn't draining well so our showers were turning into baths. Room was pretty nice overall. We signed up for SUP, and it was my girlfriend's first time ever doing it. We expected someone from the resort to be there to show us the ropes and give us some information...there was absolutely nobody. We went searching for people, and the maintenance people didn't really say much of anything. We went into the Kahaluu bay area and I fell off my SUP once and ended up scratching up my leg and foot pretty bad...would have been nice to know the bay was only a few feet deep in some parts, with rocks on the seafloor to avoid. We also signed up for their big Saturday "Paradise Bay Experience Package" out to the reef to snorkel and to the sandbar to walk around. We signed up for a 10 am departure time. They called at 9:50 am to double check we were still going on the experience and I confirmed yes to checking out and yes to the experience. We went upstairs to checkout a few minutes later, and it took us a few minutes to do so because they said they wouldn't trust us to not return our towels and car parking pass after the experience, so we had to grab them RIGHT THEN. Okay fine, we bring those to them and notice from the front desk the boat for the experience literally leaving the dock at 9:58 am...WHY?!? I ask them and they say it was our fault, and we were supposed to be there at the boat 5 minutes early...NOBODY TOLD US THAT! Not when we signed up for the experience, and not in the follow-up email we received about it, which I'll attach below. So then they rush to call the boat captain to say to come back to the dock. You JUST called me 10 minutes prior and I said we were going on the experience, did you not communicate that with the boat staff? Clearly not. We end up jumping on the boat at 9:59 am after it had returned, so after all that hassle we were a minute early. No sorry from anyone, not even any acknowledgement from the boat staff. Long story short, this could easily be a 5-star hotel and experience if the hotel had a completely different staff, filled with people with more compassion, customers service skills, and a greater care for hospitality.

Amazing location - a true Hawaiian Paradise. First, if this listing is up (VRBO)--just click NOW…read moreand book it, quickly before it is gone. We did soon after we saw it and were fortunate, it was a brand new listing and we turned out to be the FIRST tenants ever, and it turned out amazing. What a FIND! We initially looked in Waikiki (stayed there 7 trips before), but most of the nice places (with ocean views and reputable locations) were either way too pricy ($250 and up--ads up for an 11 day stay), plus most required $25 a day for parking (add in another $275), plus some had high management fees (one was $495) if through VBO. Others had WEAK Internet (if they listed Internet access at all (and I had to work early mornings and used Skype for my calls). Others had terrible reviews (cockroaches, sounds of traffic, poor service). I wasn't happy (and time was short--every time I looked I didn't find something). So, I started checking other locations. If I was off the strip then I wanted to stay on the east side if we headed north--since that's where the Polynesian Cultural Center was (by far the #1 best and true Polynesian experience) and I found THIS listing. The pictures looked good--but there were no reviews (I was the Guinee pig). The person I emailed was VERY responsive (usually within minutes), I got my questions answered and applied. We got it. Location The one bedroom apartment suite was located about 15 minutes south of the Polynesian Cultural Center off the main road. It took about 40 minutes from the airport (the distance wasn't far--but most roads were 35 mph). The photos showed the ocean, but said it was about 900 feet from the actual beach. It is actually at the end of a cul-de-sac "up" the hill off the main road (so it is quiet)... with a volcano behind it! It rises up the hill and above the other homes and is comparable to the 10th floor of a hotel with a view of the ocean! The view behind is of Hawaiian jungle (after the plush lawn). It takes up the entire ground floor of a nice home that the owners (from Illinois) were obviously very lucky to find (their dream home in Hawaii). The driveway is pretty steep, but at the top you can turn to the right into your own private garage. Facilities You enter through the garage (they have their items meticulously stored all around) and then you have your own code to enter the door. It enters a hallway with the bathroom on the right. The entire floor is serpentine stone (very nice) and even the bathroom back walls are covered with the same stone--very classy (there is even stone trim baseboard). BTW, the towels are thick and plush and there is GREAT water pressure and plenty of hot water. To the left is the big refrigerator (and they pre-stocked it with several bottles of fresh water), shelves with plates, and then the simple kitchen area. It has a nice four-person table (great for my laptop for my early calls)--we used the marble covered patio table for breakfast (and views). There is a nice living room with a TV, stereos and shelves with fun board games. To the left of the living room is a big bay window that looks into the Hawaiian jungle and a nice small yard. You feel enveloped in Hawaii! The couch folds into a bed and has memory foam (not one of the cheap roll outs). There are two large pocket doors that open into the bedroom--which has a large window and bay window that leads to the porch. The bed is AMAZING. It is a Sealy ($$$$) king size that is firm with a plush pillow top--as good as our king at home which cost thousands. The huge front patio (Lanai) overlooks coconut and banana trees and the ocean. It turned out to be perfect for breakfast (but pick up a little mosquito spray just in case). The rear patio is also nice and has a new barbecue. I clocked the Internet speed and the wi-fi was 46 mbps down and 11 mbps up--which was fantastic (and stable). There are also lots of TV stations and Netflix. There is a shared modern washing machine/dryer off the kitchen. Remember to open the door for the front-loading washer when done (they can mold in the Hawaiian humidity). You can occasionally hear the TV upstairs, but this is a house--so it's expected and feels like "home." It feels like the perfect, classy, immaculate beach house. It also feels like the real Hawaii--not the touristy crowds (yet it was still convenient to places we like to go). I came here with my wife and our young granddaughter. The owners live upstairs and occasionally left us little gifts--including a juicy pineapple outside our door. They were very responsive to anything we needed--including ideas for the best snorkeling and beaches close by. I rate this FIVE stars (would give it higher if possible). It is truly a Hawaiian Paradise and it was an incredible value as well. It is like an upscale "Hilton" home away from home. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Brent, the owner, has thought of everything and has put so much aloha into renovating this gem. From the custom mango wood cabinets and floors, to the beautiful Hawaiian print curtains. The camper comes equipped with anything you need for a great Hawaiian adventure: cooking utensils, bedding, beach chairs, surf boards, you name it! Mango has a kitchen with a cook top and a good sized built in cooler. This past trip we took Mango on a beach camping trip at Bellows. The camper top is easy to navigate and very comfortable. The back seat also converts into a bed, sleeping a total of four adults. Brent installed lights in the van that are functional and super cool. You can utilize white lights or the multi-colored LED lighting. A few technical things about Mango: she's a manual vehicle with four speeds. Brent installed a back up camera for more ease and safety when navigating in reverse. The camper is from the 70's, so no air conditioning. Honestly, the windows provide enough air flow and allows you to breathe in the Hawaiian air. There is no power steering, but that's part of the vintage charm! This trip we traveled with our three year old son (and his car seat). Despite having no car seat laws in the 70's, we were able to safety install his car seat without a fuss. Our son absolutely loved, loved, loved, driving around! Renting a camper van allows you to see the island authentically and with amenities at your finger tips. Definitely recommend Hanahou Campers! We will be back!

As first-time snorkelers traveling with a child, our experience did not align with those expectations. Equipment distribution was poorly handled. Masks were handed out with little to no instruction, and basic questions were met with a rude and dismissive attitude. Overall communication and service were lacking. Once in the water, guidance was minimal and inconsistent. The experience felt rushed and disorganized, with limited support for guests who were new to snorkeling. The tone and treatment we received also made us uncomfortable as Asian guests. After sharing feedback, the company clarified in writing that they do NOT advertise or position this as a beginner-friendly snorkeling tour. Based on both that clarification and our experience, I would strongly recommend that beginners or families looking for clear instruction and attentive guidance consider other operators. Sharing this to help future guests set accurate expectations before booking.

The murkiness of the waters, dark sands and reefs makes it difficult to nearly impossible for swimming and snorkeling. Watching my feet sink into the nearly black sand took me by surprise. The beach area provides a large grassy area for picnics in the open sun surrounded by lightly hovering trees. At a glance and on many great days of perfect sunny weather, the contrasts from the Ko'olau's are visible through the weightless pendulous clouds. Look further into the open horizon to see Chinamans Hat. I love the chirps of the countless exotic birds that congregate at the lonely mangrove tree and bring life to its branches and drooping roots. The shallowness of the water and the abundance of fish attract fishermen from all over the island. The region makes a great location for weddings photos and avid shutterbugs. The beach park was previously used for television and movie films such as LOST, and 50 First Dates for its stunning scenery. Its surrounding areas are residential homes that line along Kamehameha Hwy. Besides the passing of cars driving past, continuous sounds of rippling waves lashing on shore and the trees are swaying to and fro. The park is a great place for reading and allowing time to pass, be lost, and disconnect from reality. I recommend bringing your own beach chairs, and towels for wiping mud off your feet. The park can be mushy especially after the rain. To keep the beauty and livelihood of the park, please be respectful to the land and pick up your trash. There are hardly any trash cans so bring a garbage bag of your own and not leave them on the beach.
