We booked a dolphin tour through Indigo Ocean Hawaii LLC. The night before departure, we suddenly received a text saying our booking was transferred to another company. We only got a vague email after 10 PM, and the next morning we almost missed the bus because the phone line said "not working hours." Very unprofessional and stressful. We were handed off to Iruka Hawaii LLC, which was even worse: * Two guides - one only interacted with white customers, the other only with Japanese customers. As two Chinese female guests, we were completely ignored. * We clearly told them we were beginners, but once in the water, no one helped. My mask leaked, I choked several times, and no one cared. Extremely unsafe! * The captain told people "don't hesitate, just jump," but no real guidance or safety support was provided. * Equipment quality was poor. * The worst part: at the end, the Japanese guide handed dolphin keychains to every Japanese guest (adults and kids), but skipped us. We only got one after we asked for it ourselves. That kind of treatment felt discriminatory and disrespectful. Later we learned this is a common scam in Hawaii's tour industry: companies take bookings, then dump guests on others if group sizes don't fit, pocketing the price difference. Real quality and safety are not guaranteed. And it's not just us. Other tourists have reported the same issues: last-minute tour transfers, lack of care, discriminatory treatment, and serious safety concerns. Bottom line: Both Indigo Ocean and Iruka Hawaii are unprofessional, unsafe, and discriminatory. We strongly do NOT recommend them. Would give zero stars if I could. DO NOT book any tours with this company‼‼‼‼‼We booked a tour in Oahu with this SCAM of a company which was supposed to be snorkeling in Turtle Canyon. They cancelled the excursion on us last minute TWICE so we left Oahu without snorkeling at all because of them. First time they claimed the weather was bad one hour before we were scheduled to leave and second time they cancelled 15 minutes before we were scheduled to meet up because of a swell??!!! We were all ready to go and about to head to the meet up spot. I was LIVID!! It was our last day in Oahu and we were looking forward to this activity only to be incredibly disappointed AGAIN by this company. It was beautiful, perfect weather and there was no swell or unsafe ocean conditions. I called two other snorkeling tour companies who were fully booked up, but were operating their tours at the same time ours was scheduled, so any claim that it was unsafe or there was poor visibility is a lie. Iruka was amazing to work with! Our originally booked tour never showed up. Iruka was at the same location as the one that never showed. Iruka's staff bent over backwards to help get us on one of their Oahu dolphin tours that was leaving that same morning. No one made us feel badly for the all-extra effort spent getting us onto the boat. The staff on our boat were: Tim, Tim, Travis, Drew, Gaylen, Fuko, and Yuya. During the tour all staff were amazing and friendly. They clearly explained what to expect during the tour and what to consider before jumping into the water. For example, to be in the water near the dolphins, you will need to jump into the water while the boat is moving and them swim quickly away from the boat with the staff. This information was really important because it allowed my mom to make the smart decision to stay on the boat instead of going into the water as originally planned. Despite staying on the boat, Mom enjoyed watching the dolphins swimming and jumping. In fact, she probably had a better view of the dolphins than those of us in the water. The staff were wonderful with both adults and kids. I watched them help kids who started to panic in the water. They were great at calming them down and provided any additional assistance they could to make everyone's tour enjoyable. I greatly recommend this company to anyone looking to do tours. read more

I have now done the Oahu dolphin tour 3x and the Oahu turtle tour 1x. I first discovered them a year ago and had the absolute privilege of meeting the owner herself! What a treat, Yuriko is the sweetest and I'm ever so thankful our paths crossed. The dolphin tour out of Waianae Harbor is most definitely a show stopper! It was my first time ever swimming in open water with dolphins. I've been lucky enough to see spinner and spotted dolphins on this tour! The last time we lucked up on a nursing pod and there were wee babies too!!! Absolutely breathtaking experience on the double decker boat with a slide, climbing wall, paddle boards etc. While we were cruising around we crossed across another pod and one spotted dolphin in particular was having a ball jumping through our wake a few times! Hahahaha it was fantastic first time experience for me on that one too. I swear he was giggling at all of us squealing at how cool he was! Lol The dolphin tour comes with a light lunch, juice, and water. The turtle tour goes out of Waikiki and its a much smaller boat, really enjoyed the small group for that tour. Max and Nate make a great team! We got the early morning tour so had a nice sunrise cruise out to the turtle spot. Lucky enough to get there so early because it got super crowded after about an hour and a bunch of other boats showed up and those guests from the other boats were loud and splish splashing and well rude. After swimming around and away from the gobs of people our group got blessed with a young turtle that popped up right in front of our group and hung out for a bit before we packed it on up and headed back. The cruise back was just as beautiful as the ride out with the sunrise. Such a peaceful and beautiful experience. Bring your own light snacks and water bottles on the turtle cruise. For both tours. Truly life changing experience snorkeling with turtles. Captain Chris, Dalton, and Sam were amazing! They made everyone on the boat feel so comfortable and answered all my questions about the fish. We also saw a ton of turtles!! This was our first time snorkeling, but multiple people on the boat said this was far and away the best tour they've done in Hawaii. I can't recommend it enough!! Following shuttle bus from Honolulu out to Waianae. Driver between Red Hill and Pearl City is an idiot. At Red Hill, driver is in second from left lane, that lane goes to Aiea, driver is driving 50 mph, observe driver cut in front of a Bus Handivan after going over Red Hill as going to Waianae and not Aiea. Handivan changed lane after the cut in front. Thinking why the sudden last minute change in lane. Did not get a good look at driver as was 6:30am and still dark outside. Lic # 2IRUKA. Called and spoke to Stephen about a private charter for my family and I. I'm a resident here so he was working with me on Kama'aina. He told me he would have a rate that same day and would call me back. I never got a call back or heard anything about the private charter and now online it says "permanently closed". Communication is awful, as well as customer service -- I've also heard quite a few negative things about how this company is run from people in town. We used this company to snorkel with sea turtles. And had an absolutely amazing time. This is a smaller company with a smaller boat. So we were only 7 people on this trip. (Other boats out in turtle canyon had upwards of 50 people. Yikes). We had a nice ride out to Turtle canyon. Sean, our swim guide, was super helpful getting us all set up. We saw lots of turtles and lots of fish while out snorkeling. Plus we saw a pod of dolphins swim by. After 11 years without taking a two week PTO span with my company, I decided I was going all out on my trip here in Hawaii. This has been one of the more enjoyable experiences of my trip. The day prior, my friend and I decided to take the company's other tour in another location for the dolphin tour and that was pretty cool. It was done on a two story boat and we saw some pretty cool sights including baby dolphins! This day though we focused on the turtle tour. We got a little lost when we arrived because we transported ourselves--- when you arrive make sure you walk towards the front (street/city side) of the harbor. We walked towards the back and were a bit late but our tour guides were super accommodating about it. The boat is on the smaller side and the crew and gang more of an intimate setting which I preferred. Max, was super knowledgeable about the wildlife, has a marine biology and teaching background, and was excited to share that knowledge with us! They do an offering ceremony, E Ho Mai, prior to leaving for good luck which I'm all for. No provided food on this tour, so be mindful to bring your own! :) Our boat got there early so we got amazing views of the turtles and caverns before the crowds arrive which I appreciated. As it got later in the day it got pretty packed with other boats but we had already got our fill of sights by the time they arrived. Also, Captain Nate does these hilarious boomerang shots for those who are daring enough to jump off the side of the boat! Definitely check these guys out if you find yourself in Oahu. read more

My husband and I went on the dolphin and snorkeling tour and it was amazing! It was a relatively big boat, but there was only 9 of us. I cannot express how much of an experience swimming with manta rays is. Even prior to the experience, we had called the phone number as we were having a hard time finding the spot. The representative was very helpful and was very patient with our frustration. After we arrived at the location, the process was made even better by the team on the boat. They played lively music and had a ton of jokes to keep everyone entertained. Not to mention they also provided snacks - chips, sodas, water, and hot chocolate for after the snorkeling portion. I would 100% try this experience again. It is amazingly beautiful and peaceful. Saved this tour for our last full day and couldn't be any happier that we did. We signed up for the 1pm turtle snorkeling tour and had so much fun we had to buy tickets to the sunset whale watching right after. As soon as we boarded the boat we were greeted by Captain Nate and his crew (Trevor & Maki). Maki helped lead us in a Hawaiian prayer in hopes of seeing turtles on the tour. That prayer worked wonders! We were surrounded by turtles during our snorkeling adventure, saw a manta ray, and whales for the sunset. The VIBES were perfect. One of the most memorable experiences you will ever have in Oahu, Hawaii. The beginning of the trip starts with a Hawaiian chant and flower toss ceremony which made the whole trip very authentic and extra exciting. Also, not only do you get to see dolphins, but you get to swim with them through this tour. Because it is a wild encounter, you are not guaranteed to see dolphins during the trip. However, our group saw tons of melon head dolphins. Afterwards, the tour group took us to a beautiful reef where we snorkeled with sea turtles and many tropical fish. They even took out paddle boards, water slides, and a rock climb wall for people to enjoy. Even if you are afraid of water, you will feel extremely safe. The staff are swimming alongside you and will guide you throughout the entire way. I did see several people get sea sick so make sure to take motion sickness medicine an hour or two before the tour starts. They also offer transportation for those traveling from Waikiki like us. The driver was fantastic too. The photographer who took pictures for us was sweet and amazing. The pictures I attach are some of the great shots she took on that day. We had an amazing time with Iruka's captain and her team. Simply amazing!!! The crew was highly experience and helpful. This is not a booze cruise but a true professional snorkel experience. We did the dolphins swim but our amazing, fantastic captain found pilot whales which are technically large dolphins! We swam next to pilot whales!!!! It was spiritual and magnificent! We also saw several pods of dolphins, turtles, fish and reef. One point I have to make is the first pod of dolphins Iruka's boat found was a sleeping pod. Because of the love and respect this crew had for these glorious animals we did not go in the water. This is just one example of how professional and environmentally aware this group is.
