Hawks Cay Resort completely ruined our family weekend. We paid over $1,000 per night for what was supposed to be a luxury experience. The resort was overcrowded, especially the main pool area, and there weren't enough lounge chairs for guests. We had an 82-year-old family member with a heart condition who ended up standing in the heat because our chairs were taken while we were briefly getting breakfast from the resort's own coffee bar. Our towels were still on the chairs, but the manager told us that "towels don't reserve chairs" and suggested we go "steal someone else's." No empathy, no help, no backup plan. Just excuses. For that price, you'd expect professionalism, compassion, and better logistics. Instead, we checked out early, with our kids crying, and ended up in another hotel that treated us with actual hospitality. Hawks Cay looks nice in photos, but behind the marketing there's a lack of service, organization, and basic respect for guests. Not worth the price or the stress. read more

Absolutely beautiful resort with great views of the ocean. Resort is huge with plenty to do or do nothing at all. It's lush gardens and ocean views can be seen throughout the property or within steps. Hotel rooms have the comfiest beds and seats. It was so easy to feel right at home and fall asleep after a productive day. There are 2 pools on property, the adult and the family. We were adults so we went to the adult pool and had a blast. The servers take such good care of you while your there. Order drinks and food and all comes quick. There are pool towels for all so grab, pick your spot and relax. There are stores onsite for treats,eats, sun protection and so much more. Oh and not to mention a Starbucks onsite..insert smile here. There was also a shop/boutique with some cute dresses and outfits for the whole family, not to mention some eclectic trinkets that were so beautiful. When hungry there's also restaurants and a shop that has coffee, empanadas, croquetta's and more. They have it all here. Beauty, ocean views,lush gardens and some of the friendliest staff ever. There is a swim with the dolphins attraction right onsite as well. I'm an animal lover so I will leave that alone read more

Please be aware !! The resort is great and the Villa we stayed in was exactly what we needed BUT...when I booked, I called Hawks Cay DIRECTLY and apparently there is a 3rd party that books it if you go through button for "reservations". I had no idea until the day of check out. There were a few hick-ups and I could not deal with the actual front desk. For any complaints about billing or additional fees - AND YES, THERE ARE ADDITIONAL FEES, you have to work with 3rd party that booked it. Again, had no idea a 3rd party was even involved. Lastly, two additional charges that were on my credit card that noted Hawks Cay could not be seen on their system under my name, but it was charged to my credit card. They were no help and told me to call my bank. It had Hawks Cay name and phone number listed on the transaction, but again, "THEY COULDN'T HELP ME". Will not return for the monies and time I have lost !!!! read more

We spent two nights here and had a nice time overall. The check-in process was smooth and everyone we interacted with was friendly. We had a room overlooking the "adult" pool with a lovely balcony. The room was clean and comfortable, if a little cold when the air conditioning ran. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the room anyway. We didn't do any dolphin encounter, but did enjoy seeing them from the porch overlooking their pool. We also enjoyed both the kids' pool (my son loved the slides at the pirate ship, and my daughter met a mermaid!) and the main pool. Breakfast at the cafe was good, but the buffet was definitely overpriced. Unless you are going for second or third helpings, I'd order off the a la carte menu. The buffet had standard fare - scrambled eggs and scrambled eggs with cheese/pepper/onion, bacon and sausage, fried potatoes, a starch (waffle one day, french toast the next), and a variety of fruits and pastries (the fruit was excellent). Had the buffet one morning and a breakfast burrito the next, which was outstanding. The day we were there for lunch we ate at the Tiki Bar by the pool. We both had the Mahi Tacos which were excellent, and hands down the best dining value we encountered in our stay. Both nights we ate at Angler and Ale, as it was really the only dinner spot recommended as "kid friendly" by the front desk. The servers we had were friendly, but the kids menu was definitely lacking. My wife and I got fish dishes that were tasty, but didn't come with sides. Once we added sides to share, the bill kept climbing. Good beer selection at the spot. The food was good, but again overpriced. Meal costs aside, the demerits are minor. Bit of a disconnect between the front desk and reality - when we were checking in they recommended lunch at Coral Grill, neglecting to mention it wasn't going to be open the days we were there, and told us there was a "dolphin show" at 10:15 when it was really just watchin other people's dolphin encounters at 10. We had a great time - go in eyes open. If we were staying for more than 3 days we probably would have driven to Marathon or Islamorada for more options in dining. Lovely people overall. read more

So we got a town house for a week. We stayed in sanctuary village in 7203. We have 6 people with us. The home is nice and very spacious for all 6 people. 2/3 rooms have balconies which I thought was really nice. Hawks cay is located at duck key which is about an hr drive north of Key West due to the slow speed. Each one of these townhomes in Sanctuary village had a private pool which is really nice. What I didn't like was that we had 6 people staying there and the staff knew this upon check in. Yet there was only 4 bath towels !!! Only 3 rolls of toilet paper in the entire house for 6 people. We were staying a week. I would understand if we stayed 1-2 nights that would be appropriate. The kayak and paddle board that they advertise: well let me tell you. The paddle for the paddle board is basically broken and taped together with duck tape. The kayak had holes so we couldn't use it. And it's ONLY allowed to be used in the pond. Not in the open ocean water. FYI. Inside of the town home, appearance wise was nice. However, they couldn't sit on any of the bar stools. They were all loose and risky for kids bc I can see someone falling and cracking their heads bc of it. The cookware in the kitchen was horrible!! The one frying on we had was a Teflon pan that had Teflon all scraped up in the middle area. We did have one cooking sheet but no oven mitts. And the knives all had teeth that had fibers from something that we couldn't remove. They never advertised this service but we learned that you can request rides in the golf cart to the restaurant or the pool and back if you wanted too. They also had bike rentals but it ended at 5 pm. There was also a gym with a sauna but u would have to pay if you wanted to go into the sauna. There were many shared pool at hawks cay. The main one near the tiki hut was where we were at but we did also use the adults only pool a few times. It doesn't seem like they enforce that the adult pool was 21+. So I don't see what the point is with all the signs. Water stations are open all around the pool areas so just bring your own container if u want to drink water for free. I had the Paloma's here and it was fabulous. Also, the food at hawks cay was really good. Everything was around $20 each. Overall, if I were to come back to this area, I'd stay at the post card inn ( which is being renovated right now) vs here. read more

This resort states it is pet friendly. I made a reservation noting that is was my Birthday celebration, and that I would be bringing my pet Cockatoo in a cage, and that if this was not acceptable, to let me know so I could cancel. I received a reservation confirmation based upon this and numerous marketing emails relating to our stay. Upon arrival at check-in I was told that birds are not accepted, and that they would not honor the reservation. This place has been patched over for updates. Has a very diversity unfriendly staff. Im caucasian. Rooms have water damaged ceilings and signs of mold which they tried to paint over. No dehumidifier so rooms are very moist and sticky. Parking is a pain and dont you dare park in their valet lot, which is always empty, unless they have a wedding. I'm accustomed to resorts and this one is the worst ever. Dont bother driving hours here to be sorely disappointed. Worst ever resort experience!!! read more

Cute little resort off the beaten path. They do a "heroes" discount for first responders which is really nice as the nightly rates are quite expensive. The rooms are pretty standard, but you're not going to the keys to stay in your room! I did however make sure to purchase their signature key lime lotion that is supplied in the rooms as it smells amazing. The resort is still about an hour from Key West but it's a perfectly beautiful drive and worth it to not have to deal with all the noise and chaos that you get in Key West. The staff was exceptionally helpful and kind, there was live music around the fire pit at night, multiple pools, and a great outdoor bar. There are a bunch of activities available that we did not partake in, but will make sure to check out next time. There are two casual restaurants within walking distance to the resort and you will certainly see some manatees on your way! read more

We stayed in a villa in Harbor Village We were so far away from the pools and activities at the resort and had to drive to get there and not nearly enough parking. Expecting to be on the water- what a joke. There was a river in back but couldn't see it from the room, had to go through overgrown path to reach it. The wading pool on back patio was filthy and could not sit on patio because of mosquitoes. The villa was outdated. Furniture was miss matched-looks like it came from an old estate sale. Light fixtures full of dead bugs and kitchen cabinets in poor shape. Bathroom sinks were so low, I'm 5'2" and had to bend down so low to wash my face. Would not recommend this place. Our travel agent booked this for our Key West vacation. We are going to tell him not to book anyone else here read more

This past week when we went and were swimming, a worker tried to take our drink bucket with a full beer in it. Then a little later the same staff member walked right by an empty beer can laying on its side, walked to the table next to our pool chairs, and attempted to take 2 full strawberry daiquiris. When i approached him, he played dumb as if he thought nobody was sitting there (although all of our stuff was there). I decided to watch the staff more and found more occasions where staff were taking peoples full drinks but leaving trash lay. Im assuming they do this so WE would have to go spend more money on new drinks. Sad. read more

This is the most amazing family resort probably in the Florida Keys. I would absolutely 100% recommend HK for Family. It was myself and my three children we rented a villa resort. Food is fantastic. The help from anybody on the resort was above and beyond their extremely kind, I absolutely recommend deep-sea fishing. The sandbar snorkeling excursion was my bottom of my favorite also but then just hanging out at the pool and eating and watching the kids have fun. There's no reason to leave the resort recommend looking for vacation. Make sure to fly into Key West and Yhanni is the taxi service. I would recommend if you don't rent your own car do not Uber, I would not recommend flying into Miami and driving down because I can turn into a 5 or 7 drive on that two lane, 35 mile an hour highway. But this place was amazing. I highly recommend any family vacation at Hawks Cay to go here 100%. read more

Hawks Cay Resort has declined over the years. We stayed here for the better part of a week for a fishing trip. Everything was broken, tired, and sad here. Upon arrival, it was difficult to find anyone to unlock the luggage carts so we could use one. Their valet service is only allowed to roll the carts; we could not use one on our own. This took forever to wait for check-in to get our luggage out of our vehicle and to our room. (And later, upon checkout, we called several times to reserve a luggage cart and valet staff because we were leaving around 5 am. Our requests were never noted, and waiting for someone to once again unlock a cart and bring it to our room significantly delayed our departure.) The resort grounds and hotel rooms were uncleaned and poorly maintained. Cigarette butts were absolutely everywhere. Our toilet paper holder was on the floor in the bathroom after falling off the wall with the previous guest. Pool water water filthy, filmy, and far from clear, even in the adults-only pool. The hot tubs were all drained and empty. Our balcony chairs had holes in the rattan and did not look like they could support any weight. Fishing charters were easy to walk to, and the restaurants on the property and adjacent to the property were decent (but not as nice as I'd expect for this resort price point). My husband and I stayed here as a conference he was attending was held here. I was annoyed there was no beach or ocean swimming access. Just a lame, man made lagoon and a pool. The little cafe/market had very limited hours (didn't open for coffee til 7am) and closed early in the evening. Also the restaurants at the hotel were just "meh". If this property gave half the effort they give on social media to basic customer service and cleanliness... We used 5 years of saved sky miles to book 4 nights here for our honeymoon. It was our 4th time together at a resort in the keys (2x @ Amara Cay and once at Marriott Faro Blanco) I regret not doing more research before booking at hawks cay - but it was the only resort option outside of key west and key largo on delta vacations so we went with it. To say we were underwhelmed would be an understatement. Highly overpriced. Pros: dolphins on site fun to sit and watch, walking distance to angler & ale cute restaurant, the island of duck key is nice to drive around and check out the houses-but outside of the resort, you'll be driving 20 mins to marathon or Islamorada for anything else to do. Cons: rude staff really set the tone (no greetings, no smiles, seemed like we were inconveniencing them to check in, check out, and even just walk through the lobby). Poo or chocolate on the remote had me cringing at wondering what else wasn't cleaned. No towel hooks (what a waste for towel reuse) and whole bathroom floor was covered with water every time we showered. We will not be back. Spend your money (or miles) somewhere better. read more

Beautiful, spacious rooms! Loved the large shower, generously sized balcony, ample closet space and plenty of lighting! The decor is perfectly staged throughout the hotel. You won't need to leave the resort much, as there's plenty of places to relax/catch a bite to eat. If not for the high prices of the food options in the market/eateries, I would definitely give a 5/5. Since the marathon area is overall very pricey, some more affordable on-site options would've sealed the deal. Definitely plan on being back though! read more

Not a great experience - especially for the money! We checked in at 4pm and by the time we got everything up to our room - all of the pools & amenities were closing for the night. Great to pay a resort charge and not even be able to use anything. The pool was so dirty - hair EVERYWHERE & garbage. They offer paddle boards in your resort fee but they can only be used for 30 minutes per day per room, and only in the lagoon (which is small)! No recycling bins anywhere on the property! Customer service was not great! Worst part - don't plan on sleeping through the night! The pipes are so loud! It literally sounded like someone was banging on our door about 8 times between midnight and 6am! We will try another resort on our next trip to the Keys. This was beyond disappointing! read more

We visited over spring break 2022 and I just don't think this place is worth it. The rooms were overpriced (probably our fault since we booked it last minute). The rooms advertised as double queen beds but in reality it felt like full size beds. Not as well maintained as I would have expected. We noticed two obvious and untended plumbing leaks, one running down the hallway wall, and one near the pool area. The room was nice, but I couldn't open the sliding door to the balcony, it was stuck. The room stock wasn't replenished consistently. I had to go ask the front desk for coffee pods, and there was another guest in front of me asking for toilet paper. Your rate all of a sudden goes from $447 a night to $715 a night! So not only do you not only do you not really get a free night but you also will end up spending $300+ more on your total booking through this phony promotion! I have to split my review in two parts. The first 2 days were great 5* even, check in was fast and friendly, all staff was very friendly. It look, feel and show everything that you ask from a high End resort. Beautiful resort, views and pools. Then it came the last 4 days..... Room wasn't clean for 4 days even after I requested twice, they offer a nice marketplace that is supposed to close at 10 pm but without any sign to advice( sorry pizza only until 7, oh and coffee only till 9) Then one thing that's really noticed is as farther you get from Sunday worse the things get.. pools, food areas are not as clean staff gets more and more small all around. Also everything that you can eat or drink on the resort is average quality but very pricey. You get the pricing of a high end resort but not the service.. After 4days without cleaning they came and on that same afternoon we found a cockroach on the bathroom... unfortunately if I left after day 2 I would be happy with and definitely come back, right now I will explore other options when I'm in the area. I think this is a great resort for families. There are several different pools, some of which are designated specifically for children and or for adults Period there is also daily and nightly entertainment, and plenty of activities for everyone in the family to enjoy. The facilities are nicely maintained, and everything is pretty much within walking distance, or you can always rent a golf cart for use while you're on the property. There is no actual beach here, but there is a large man-made lagoon for swimming, paddle boarding, and other water activities Unfortunately, I will never patronize Hawks Cay Resort again, due to the fact that they offer live interactions with dolphins that are kept in a tiny enclosure. In today's day and age, with all that we know about the intelligence and IQ of dolphins, as well as what we can see on our own online, it is horrifying to me that any place continues to abuse dolphins in this manner for a profit. Our 3 bedroom villa was VERY expensive, but was missing many key elements. The kitchen didn't have dish towels, baking sheets, salt & pepper, Saran Wrap, aluminum foil or Tupperware. None of the bathrooms had shampoo, conditioner or body wash, and only 1 had a bar of hand soap. When we called someone to bring us some hand soap, a nice man came with some huge refill canisters & asked where all the body wash/shampoo/ conditioner canisters were for him to refill. We told him we just arrived & there weren't any, so he had to leave & come back to bring us some. In addition, the floors in the villa are filthy! After our showers, we came downstairs for dinner barefoot & then noticed the bottom of each of our feet were covered in a blue-gray dust/dirt. (See photo). This, along with the missing canisters, seem like things that the housekeeping staff should have noticed when they cleaned the villa in between guests. Whereas the grounds are beautiful, when we arrived a little after 1pm on a Sunday, the main pool was closed "for maintenance " and the standup paddle boards didn't have paddles & none were available. At the Coral Cay pool there was a very large excrement on the top step of the pool, but no staff available to tell, so my husband had to use some large leaves to remove it. There are extra fees for some of the activities on their daily schedule like $15 for poolside morning yoga. That seems like something that would be included in the daily $45 activity fee. There are a lot of very large iguanas that our kids have enjoyed chasing around & we've enjoyed photographing. (See photo) Again, the area around the Coral Cay was very pretty. Spent a good deal of money at the dolphin encounter and really enjoyed it. My friends little grand daughter really had big time We decided to go by the front desk to ask about accommodations. Beautiful property. Unfortunately the lady at the desk was first too busy to recognize us. Eventually she asked what we wanted. We were told no information was available. My wife saw a card so she took one and asked if she could find the right site on the card. She pushed a map at her and said look on the map. Really ought to have a pleasant person at the front desk. My husband and I purchased a wedding package and got married in January. Everything was great except for the wedding photos. The photographer (Jenn Flipes from McLaughlin Photo and video) was arranged by the resort to take the photos. We received a sneak peak of the photos on Jan 31. To put it nicely they did not look good. The photos were not centered, you saw the spit on peoples teeth, and the photos were overexposed so you could not see the beautiful beach background. I brought my concerns to them and they said they would fix it. We received the full package on March 28th but the changes were half heartily made. We reached out again and didn't hear a response until April 22nd apologizing for the delayed response and that they would fix the photos and give them to us within the next 2 weeks. I have not received the photos. I have followed up via email on May 20th, July 21st, and Aug 11th and I have not received a response. They are also dodging my phone calls. read more

Positives: Radar and the staff overall was warm and helpful The food at 61 Prime was superior to most hotel restaurant food we've had Dolphins Connection and paddle boarding on the lagoon were fun BUT The condition of the accommodations was truly APPALLING and unacceptable for a resort charging $$$ The two bedroom villa 5019 was antiquated, dilapidated, and simply dirty. The condition of that villa was what we would expect at a cheap roadside motel. The carpet and furniture were stained in multiple places, the blinds were cracked, a lightbulb in the bathroom was not working, the paint on the door frames and banisters was extremely worn, dirty and chipped, the walls and doors were dirty and scuffed, the caulking in the bathrooms was full of mildew - as were the AC vents and the ceiling in one of the bedrooms. And on top of this, the trash from the previous occupants was left under the kitchen sink. Our first night just felt so deeply disappointing and disgusting and really like we were completely taken advantage of - charged $$$ to stay in squalor. Where is the integrity in that? We understand the villas are privately owned; shame on the owner who does not provide clean, well maintained accommodations and shame on Hawk's Cay who does not appear to have a system to oversee that these privately owned villas are maintained appropriately. We were relieved to be moved to another Villa for the next two nights. The second Villa was an improvement, having had some renovation. But the living room couch in 5025 smells strongly of mildew. There were also a few cockroaches in Villa 5025 and the screens on the screen doors were broken. Also, The dryer needed to be set three times in order to completely dry clothes. Throughout the resort there was trash littered - behind our room, around the pool The first night's stay left such a bad taste in our mouths, it overshadowed the whole of our experience. In looking at other Yelp reviews, it appears many guests have had similar complaints that the resort is in disrepair. My observation was that occupancy seemed low while we were there, but I could be wrong. We were last in the keys in September and stayed in Isla Bella up the road. The food wasn't great and the activities were fewer, but the accommodations were pristine. We will choose Isla Bella again without a doubt for our next stay, as we visit the keys a few times a year. read more

Duck Island is beautiful and the hotel lobby and grounds are nice. Unfortunately everything else in the hotel is outdated and old . Way too many people and not enough staff ! Basically had to flag down staff to take our order or get our room cleaned. Just didn't really feel like it was worth the money. If they fixed up the actual hotel and hired more staff and updated the rooms and areas where pets are then it could be very nice but right now there are Probaly nicer places to stay. Too bad. I do not recommend this resort it could be better but it's not the worst I guess.. so basically when I got to the place we where staying we found several bugs and when I went to the restroom it looked clean but the soap bar was broken but the soaps had everything which was nice but when I used one of them the top fell off. Customer service is ehh. The guy we needed for a golf cart was really rude and acted like he didn't want to be there but for the kids club the people there were really nice some our nice some I guess aren't. The pools were nice and there were some activities to do one of them was panel boarding on the beach which looked really fun but I couldn't get to do it for the time. You get 30 minutes on each one which is alright but the guy there let them have way more time then they needed. Overall the pools were nice and all but they should add more activities for kids at the pools like waterslides and stuff. But the view is really nice and stuff but I wouldn't go back. read more

This may be my harshest review I've ever made. We took this family trip for my daughter's 8th birthday. I called the front desk to let them know our flight would be late. They assured me it was ok. We arrive at the hotel around 2am. The lady working the front desk told me her system was closed for the night but to go ahead to our room, she would run my card in the morning when her register could run cards. We drive to our town home and get settled with our 4 young children. About 30 minutes later, a man is banging on the door demanding we open it. I call the front desk asking them to send security asap! He continues to bang and shout. My kids are screaming at this point. He is not in uniform and never states who he is. We were terrified. The lady is incredibly rude asking why I need security when she's the one who called them. She was stating my card on file was declined and that was security asking for money. Not once did he identify himself or did she try calling my cell which I asked her if she had, she did. They ran the card I used to book months ago on the system she claimed was not working. I gave her our cc number over the phone. She ran it and told us we could stay. We didn't sleep our entire stay out of fear. My kids were terrified every night of our stay. The townhouse was dated but totally fine for our family. The resort was good and we tried to enjoy our stay but we felt like we couldn't relax. We definitely will never return to this resort. The employees clearly need better training. read more

Came here for our wedding anniversary trip and had a very good time. The room itself was very nice and clean. I believe we had one of the best rooms in the house. Our balcony was on the corner so it allowed views of the adult pool and the ocean as well! The grounds were well manicured. Free trams take you to different areas of the resort. They also offer free valeting (sort of free because there is a daily $47 resort fee). There is a "family" pool and an adult pool. You can also swim in the lagoon. There is also a kid friendly pirate ship thing by the spa. They also hold daily events like s'mores by the campfire, etc. We hung by the adult pool. I enjoyed the frozen towel service and the fresh fruit offerings in the afternoon- nice touch! The poolside menu was decent. I enjoyed the poolside salad and the frozen cocktails. We swam with the dolphins which was such an amazing experience! I would definitely recommend especially if you have kids or even if you are a big kid at heart like me! The dorsal tow was incredible and I enjoyed my dolphin kiss and hug. The trainers were extremely knowledgeable! We also took advantage of the spa and had a couples massage. We did the tropical breeze massage which was great. They comped us an aromatherapy treatment with our massage for our anniversary. I also did the moroccan oil treatment in my hair for extra $10 which was well worth it. The staff at the spa were professional every step of the way. My only complaint would be that the room cleanings were inconsistent during the day. I would see the housekeepers and their carts in the morning and come back in the afternoon and our room would still not be clean. Also during the smores campfire, my husband and I were grossed out that there were "shared" marshmallow sticks. You do not get your own stick so I had to pass on that!
