I am really disappointed, soon as I get to the front of the building the guy who helped with the luggage not even looking at me he even saw that I was taking my luggage out of the car then when I went to the front desk, the lady was very unfriendly They need to show the front desk a really good manners, and to be friendly with people the room smell like someone pee on it.. we trying to enjoy it all we can . But we don't sleep all night. I called the front desk and again another person very rude and unfriendly. I asked her to stay a little bit longer because we don't sleep the whole night. She only made me stay one more hour from the regular depart time but there's not the issue, the issue was that she was very unfriendly. we booked a hotel room with 2 queen beds. when we arrived they changed our room to a villa away from the hotel and it's amenities saying they were full so we could not have our room as booked and gave us a town house with very steep stairs not suitable for seniors. we wanted two queens in one room and it had singles and one queen with the rooms so small you had to climb into the bottom of the bed to get into it. They said they would change us to a single floor villa but told us guests hated that room! When we looked at the hotel website it showed availability in the very room we had booked. Bait and switch? My wife an I have over the years spent some enjoyable times at Hawks Cay. Last year while driving home from Key West we decided to stop by and see how the place was doing for future reference. We parked and walked in to the main lobby and then out to the grounds and pool area. We are both in our seventies, well groomed and presentable. After about ten minutes we were literally confronted by a surly "gentleman", someone with a sort of block captain attitude and grilled for ten minutes like we were trying to break into For Knox. There were no signs posted in the lobby or anywhere else about having to have a visitor's pass and any permission to view the property. The whole episode was extremely accusatory, unfriendly and uncomfortable as if we were going to jump in the pool or sneak into one of the mediocre restaurants and give them our money. As can be read by some of the most recent reviews, the place has really gone down hill and with the unfriendly, unwelcome attitude of their nasty staff, they couldn't pay me to stay there. read more

Even though we understand it is Covid time, we decided to spend a weekend at this hotel almost $300 a room for the night, expecting perfect protocols anti-Covid and everything they offer through the web page. It surprised us at the very beginning a large TV with instructions about the cares they supposedly take and at the same time a bunch of pens at the front desk that everybody use and nobody sanitizes. We also noticed that they post in that tv that every guest is sanitized and cleaned at arrival which did not happen and doors that everyone, insiders and outsiders, manipulate without cleaning, so the cares they promote do not go well. However, at breakfast they have a very poor offer that only includes healthy food as if the hotel was a fitness club and no options for kids and people not in the fitness mood. There, they went very strict saying that Covid does not permit a different offer and they denied cooking a couple of scramble eggs for the child. Someone of the staff suggested us to drive 20 miles to find something to eat for breakfast because no one was going to help at the hotel, even their webpage offered a different breakfast that the ones available. People at the Market Place, the place for breakfast was not helpful at all and even uncorteous. The lack of kindness takes me to soeak abouy the bad things that spoiled our weekend. It is clear that in a $50 night hotel is almost sure they have a better food offer. read more

Arrived at Hawks Cay to celebrate my husband's 57th birthday. Right from arriving & being greeted by the gate entrance personnel to leaving & having the doorman open the door for us & our luggage. Everything was perfect. Even though we arrived about 2 hrs before the 4pm check-in time, we were given our room. This resort is composed of Villas which look like townhomes & accommodate larger families & hotel rooms (most with balconies). We stayed in the hotel room portion of the resort. Upon arrival you will have someone valet your car (if you wish). You also have the choice of self-parking your vehicle. Keep in mind that valet parking is complimentary. You will have the doorman waiting for you to greet you. Once you walk in you will see a water station to your left for you to refresh yourself after your road-trip to the Cay. Please note: individual bottled water is not supplied with your resort fee as in other resorts. Past the water station you will see the steak & seafood restaurant, Sixty One Prime. Registration desk will be to your right after the entrance. Straight ahead you will have doors that lead to a huge round gas fire pit with chairs that surround the fire pit for relaxing at night. the main pool (slightly to the right), Tiki Grill (slightly to the left, which is the pool bar, also to the left outside you will have the Marketplace. This is where you can order "cooked to order" pizza & buy all types of snacks, water, wine, cheese crackers. They also sell toiletries. Past the main pool & the Tiki Bar you will see the saltwater lagoon beach area. If you walk to the right of the lagoon you will come across another bar, the Pilar Bar & the "adults only" pool. The resort is also home to the Coral Grill & Angler & Ale restaurants. These 2 are a bit farther from the main hotel area of the resort. To manage your way around the resort you may rent a golf cart at $175 a day, to be picked up from 9am to 5pm. At Coral Cay Activities & Adventures building. One tank of gas is included with the rental. Resort also has a full spa (for a fee depending on which service is chosen), tennis & pickleball courts, sports field, putting course (all these are included with the resort fee), boat ramps & marina. There is also transportation throughout the resort which is also covered by the resort fee, along with local & toll free calls. There are a total of 4 pools. Main pool, sunset pool, children's pool (with pirate ship) & an "adults only" pool. There are tons of daily activities in which a calendar is given to you upon check-in. We had lunch at the Pilar Bar. Sandwiches (which all come with/ chips, fries for an additional fee) were served in a bamboo steamer basket. Nice presentation. P Everything was great. Very tasteful, good portion, & served hot. We had dinner at Sixty One Prime. We were greeted by Charles. He was very friendly & cordial. Automatically acknowledged that it was my husband's birthday. The drinks & food were amazing. It was Jazz Night so there was live music being played. Our drink choices were the strawberry tarragon lemon drop & the Hawks Cay martini to start off. We then ordered for dinner a lobster bisque, bone in ribeye 20 oz, sautéed mushroom medley & the Yukon gold pommel purée., along with 2 glasses of wine. All served perfectly as ordered. We traveled from Texas to Florida, to have a nice getaway with other family members.  We checked in July 29,2022 to room 8204. The room has dirty carpet (spots) there are cracks on the ceiling as well as the floors near the closets and the carpet under the beds are broken. ( I will attach photos of how the room looks).  There was 1 main bed and 2 small twin beds which before they were 2 full beds. The wifi connection is HORRIBLE not only that, there is no information in the room as in a paper or anything to let us know what is the wifi name and password, we had to call every single time to the resort and of course wait and wait for someone to answer the phone. Including a 2 hour wait once they finally answered.  Maria ( family member) spoke to Marsha ( not sure if that is how her name is spelled) over the phone about the room situation. Marsha was supposed to call back that same day, however she never did. Once again Maria called and asked for her and then we were told about switching to another room in the same building with more beds ( we're group of 8), but for the next day. The next day after hours of waiting and waiting, trying to contact the front desk. Marsha switched us to another room in the same building, room 8402 and it was much better! Everything was cleaned, nothing broken, beautiful view and accommodated all of us. Wifi situation was the same in this room.  Back to the first day in the resort ( July 29).That evening we all got ready to go for dinner and decided to first try Sixty-One Prime. We waited a couple of minutes before we could be seated, once seated we all began to order our drinks and food.  While we were sitting down, a lady came to our table and told  my husband who is a DISABLED WAR VETERAN that he could not wear his hat inside the restaurant because it is a LUXURY RESORT. However, when we asked the waiter who has very nice by the way. He said no that it was okay, he had never heard of that before so he went and asked. Once he came back to the table and he apologized and told us he did not know they had such rule. I find it ridiculous that in a LUXURY resort we had to deal with a dirty and stained room, broken ceilings! Also, your website says NO PETS , yet there was a lady there with her dog INSIDE the main lobby!  Not only that, NOWHERE near the restaurant does it say anything about a dress code. It is resort on the beach where literally everyone there is dressed with shorts, bikinis, sandals and probably even barefoot! Nobody there is dressed in tux and tie with dress and heels.  Also, the bathtub and sink water would not go down! The kids pirate chip needs some TLC.  There is also nobody outside by the pirate ship and the pool area. We couldn't find any employees On august 1st,2022 we checked out of the hotel. A few days later we realize there is one Nintendo Switch missing from one of our kids. My husband called the resort right away because my son said he left it in the room. When they finally answer the lady on the phone said nothing was reported in checking or with maintenance. Once we asked to speak to a manager she said there was no manager there. Let husband have her his information for her to contact us back or a manager but of course NOBODY HAS CONTACT US!  It is a beautiful place indeed and perfect to relax however if you are going to call it a LUXURY RESORT-then everything there needs to be on point! We had an amazing time here last week. But this review is mainly for Don. We met Don when he was working at the lagoon. He is the most kind soul I've ever encountered. He was so incredibly helpful. He even helped my nephew and I spot fish in the lagoon. Later on our trip, Don recognized us at the jacuzzi area. He stopped and gave us all his local recommendations and offered us drink vouchers. He talked to us for an hour about life and things to do. Making us feel at home in a new place. Such a light in this world. We think about him often. Great job Don! read more

The Starbucks had some options like açaí drinks which is what I got. The downside which is the reason for the 4 stars is they don't take cash they only take card. The location is Wonderfull. However our room was scented with mildew and mold. I had an allergic reaction. Our shower and toilet had to be repaired. It was expensive and the room did not have amenities like lotion etc. The pool area was nice however there was no area to sit in the pool area in quiet where you could read a book. Music was loud from all speakers. The restaurant prime was not open. The market only served Starbucks with no other coffee alternative. They charged be almost $6.00 for a tea bag. Our room door had to be slammed close because it was worped. The elevator was broken 2 or our 3 day stay. We left a day early. read more

5th stay here (1st with a toddler). We are staying 3/28-4/2 and I can honestly say this place has gone downhill. The garden view rooms are no better then a Holliday Inn room. I am currently sitting on my balcony looking at an asphalt parking lot. The bathroom floors are filthy, the shampoo dispenser empty, and the tub dirty. The sliding barn door is a nice touch but needs a handle and white overspray removed. We stayed at the Marriot in Marathon last year and that room was 100% nicer and cheaper. The child's center is disturbing. The bathrooms look dingy and unkept with broken fixtures and tile. The pirate ship has seen better days and needs a lot of work. The children's pool has some sort of waterfall that doesn't work. This place seems to spend a lot of time caring for the lobby and landscape and less time caring about the rooms and upkeep. When we stayed at the Marriot our resort fee included 2 complimentary cocktails, and unlimited beach chair/cooler/umbrella rentals for our stay. At hawks cay your resort fee gets you nothing. The internet access is a joke. I lost internet three times writing this review. We visit the keys twice a year and we will no longer be staying at hawks cay. The beautiful grounds and nice staff is why I didn't rate this place lower. Another great place to stay is Islander in Islamorada or Almond Tree in Key West. Update: they have a "marketplace" with a "Starbucks" in it. The Starbucks is HORRIBLE and the staff has no idea how to handle more then 5 people. read more

First impression walking into resort lobby was very nice, beautifully designed. The pool area and staff were all very nice. The 3 stars is for the Marina Village villa we stayed in for 6 nights. To be fair the villas are individually owned therefore they are probably not all as bad as ours was. However; they should all be up to Hawk's Cay "4 Diamond" quality. The views for our porches and the grounds are a beautiful changing canvas. Before you stay in a villa, (ours was the 2 bedroom in the 2009-2014 block) ask about some of the details we found that we would have liked to know. Our beds were old and sunken in the middle on the last night the support screws gave out around 4am and we crashed to the floor. We had to move to the foot of the bed and sleep at a slant. The front door is not sealed (has gaps) so we had a palmetto bug issue, no WiFi working on most days, no closet or dresser storage, no hangers for the tiny closets. The blinds are broken and when desk advised we were told that is a common issue conditio. The bathrooms are super cramped so you are bumping your elbows on the doors. Our shower had hot water only. Our kitchen was not equipped to cook much. No pot holders, no dish towels just the bare minimum pot and or pan. The living room couch/pull-out bed super uncomfortable to sit on I imagine sleeping is the same. We had one comfortable chair for the 3 of us. We hear our neighbors, not private porches or balconies. I suggest you ask for housekeeping as there are no supplies for you to do it yourself except for a washer and dryer to clean your towels etc. there is a dish washer with dishes to use. We had a k cup coffee maker, microwave and a working refrigerator all good! For dining we suggest the bar by the pool nothing else. read more

Stayed for 3 nights with 7 family members. The kids with us were 4 and 7 years old. This hotel was perfect for them and at the same time allowed the adults to relax. Our favorite parts were the lagoon, dolphins, pirate ship splash pad, lunch at the tiki hut, and dinner at 61 prime!!! The food was delicious! My only 2 suggestions for improvement are to make the overall hotel wifi stronger and open the water sports at the lagoon earlier in the day! We will definitely be back! read more

Stayed at Hawk's Cay Resort between 5/30-6/4 with my girlfriend and her parents. Upon arrival the bill for the rooms was nearly doubled by an absurd daily $200 incidental hold per room (we had 2 - so $400 hold daily...$2,000 for the trip) which was not mentioned on the website. The resort grounds were beautiful. They do a good job advertising on the website. When you actually get there you realize they are understaffed, bars and pools close early, and you get nickel and dimed for absolutely everything. It is portrayed as a luxury resort on the website and that simply isn't the case. The hotel room was pretty nice aside from some mild in the shower, but the hallways and rugs were very dirty. Hard to get ahold of the front desk. The lagoon is smaller than it appears in photos and my girlfriend and I got stung by jellyfish larvae, which caused a nasty itch. The pools were crowded. Food was decent but, as I said, overpriced. The resort's slogan is "find what lures you." My girlfriend said it should be "we lure you into a big money scam." I would not return here or recommend it to anyone. We were just very bored by the 3rd day and had to go off resort to find better dining options. This place has the potential to be great but it seems mismanaged. read more

My husband and I have come to Hawks Cay 5 times now and this last time we were very disappointed. We left our room at 8:20pm on a Sunday to find something to eat and all restaurants closed at 9pm. The new Salt and Ash restaurant wasn't even accepting any one anymore. Anger & Ale had about 4 overpriced meals on their menu which we decided were not worth the money. The service and employees have always been amazing but this new management wanting to close everything early is not the way to go when you're on vacation trying to enjoy your time. Even the outside pool bar was closing at 5pm until recently. Worst part is, there is no more room service! We ended up having to order two overpriced sandwiches at the little cafe which was also closing down for the day. Nowhere did they announce that you would starve after 9pm. Had we known, we would've gotten food earlier. The marketplace/food court store they had where Salt and Ash is now used to be so much more convenient. Also, our TV stopped working our second night there and we tried to call the front desk and the phone doesn't work either. We complained to the front desk and they were very nice and apologetic although it wasn't even their fault. Unless things change, we don't want to come back here. We'd recommend Baker's Cay or Isla Bella. Haven't had any bad experiences there. read more

Booked a 60+ person group trip here and it couldn't have been better. We booked through our group coordinator, Laurie, who is the sweetest person ever. Highly skilled and very attentive. She made sure every need was met - even with our ever changing daily requests. The rooms are very nice. Housekeeping was great! We catered all dinners in house and the service was top notch. We had two guests with dietary restrictions and the staff even remembered who they were each night without me having to identify them! Now that's going above and beyond. Special thanks to Kenroy, florin, Eric, Sandra, Patricia, tanesha, and many more.. DEFINITELY sign up for the dolphin excursion. It was the highlight of many of our guest's entire trip! Our fishing trip got cancelled due to wind, and even the most "fishing- bro" of the group agreed that he loved it! It is a fantastic excursion and pre order the photos BEFORE you get in the water. You won't regret it and the quality is amazing. Other great group activities include the mixology class and the sunset cruise! It is hard to gauge how good or bad Hawks Cay resort is since this is the first time I actually rent a house to stay in for the weekend. This is not an airbnb, is a gated community next to an actual resort. Myself along with six other friends rented this house for the weekend. It had 3 bedrooms, 4 beds total, 2 king and 2 queen beds, no pull out couch. A full kitchen, 2 full baths and a half bath and a small pool. The house was adequately sized, it had plenty of towels, but didn't have enough toilet paper. There is a number you can call, but no one picked up. The oven didn't heat so great. We only realized this because we had a pan of semi frozen baked Ziti and it took forever to reheat. The master bedroom was nice, it had a balcony where you can lounge with a glass of wine. Not much of a view though. Now the furniture was very mismatched, there was not one particular style of the decor, but random pieces that didn't not go together very well. Like I said before we didn't have enough toilet paper or garbage bags which were supposed to come with the house. We paid for two nights about $1200 which is a lot, so you would expect a little more. This house definitely needs updating, the dryer made an awful noise and it didn't dry clothes properly. Like I said, it is adequate but not spectacular. For a two day stay it was fine but anything longer than that I would not of been as happy. The house also came with access to a pool lounge a few miles away which was nice. There is a lounge at this resort but we were not allowed in that one which was a bit disappointing. Would I rent a house here again? most likely not, I would try a different place. Because we divided the price between seven girls it wasn't bad, but if I had to shell out that kind of money on my own I would expect more. Just OK, But like I said I have nothing else to compare it to so it is just an A- OK place to my own standards. The resort's Restaurant was extremely overpriced and the food wasn't good. The Wi-Fi did not work so I was not able to check in on yelp to write a review which, I guess it benefits them because it would not have been that great. The only good thing about the restaurant was our waitress, she was extremely professional. EDIT: In reply to the comment posted by management. We did not book through airbnb. Our family of 19 (15 adults, three toddlers, and an infant) just returned from six nights in Hawks Cay. Accommodations included a Sanctuary Villa and assorted hotel rooms. My husband and I were given a second floor room with a lovely green view of trees and manicured lawn. We enjoyed everything about the resort, from a delectable breakfast in 61 Prime (We were the only ones there when they opened at 7am!) to the pirate ship and the kids' activity room, to the Pickleball lesson (shout out to Patrick) and the patience of our server, Keisha, at Angler and Ale. I am so sorry I cannot explicitly thank our 61 Prime server! She was so welcoming and attentive! We even spoke with the chef who prepared our delicious Duck Key Special with pancakes and the oatmeal that was almost too pretty to eat! I want to make it clear that every employee we encountered was friendly, accommodating, and helpful! The housekeeping staff greeted us in the hallways and the pool attendants and front desk staff welcomed us like old friends. We had questions about our bill during check out, and Andrea at the front desk very patiently answered our questions and provided above and beyond service. We hope to return! Rented a villa with a harbor view. Views are gorgeous majority of the staff is nice! But, a lot of things wrong with this place. Starting with our villa, dust everywhere, downstairs TV didn't work, laundry room door broken, no dressers in the second bedroom, one pillow for each bed, linens were dirty, and the entire place looked like it hasn't been cleaned in months.. you have to ask for your place to be cleaned but with 24 hours notice. We did get credit which wasn't enough.. my uncle's villa had cockroaches. Just gross. The amenities, the pools are fabulous but there aren't enough chairs to lounge on. You can't save because it's first come first serve but people safe then anyway. So, get to the pool as early as possible. The prices are outrageous! If you want to rent a bike you can only rent it for an hour max and the golf carts are extremely expensive for the day. We did love the dock you can walk on or fish off of and the staff for the most part were extremely friendly! But would NEVER come back. read more

We have visited Hawks Cay throughout the years with our family and were excited to return last week. We planned a five night stay in a four bedroom villa hosting our four adult children along with some spouses and our first grandchild. This was our first family trip in over five years where everyone could be together so we were very excited. We were also celebrating our anniversary and my husband's birthday. We requested an early check in and was told to call the day we were arriving which I did. It turned out taking us longer to get there than expected so we actually arrived right at the 4:00 check in time. My hubby dropped me off and when I walked into the lobby, I saw the longest line I have ever seen in my life. We travel a lot and never have I been 10 people back to check into a resort. I noticed many unhappy people and overheard many grumbling about how they were supposed to be in their rooms hours ago. A manager was trying to handle agitated people but the entire staff was overwhelmed. When I finally made my way to the front at 4:30, I was told that our villa was not ready and it would be closer to 5:30. Well that wouldn't work as I had a full barbecue catering meal being delivered at 5:00. We had 9 people who had all been on the road for 5-7 hours respectively and we were all tired and hungry. Completely unacceptable! After basically breaking down in tears and 30 more minutes with a manager, they found us a cleaned villa. Their response to why things were so unorganized and such was lack of employees. I understand that, but set the proper expectations for your guests, don't book more villas/rooms than you can service, etc. This was a horrible experience and had me so stressed out trying to get in the villa, setup welcome gifts, unpack all the cars and have the catering delivered. The villa was nice but very dated. The coffee pot was broken so we couldn't use that. No dish towels, no wine opener, just little things a full service vacation villa should have. We had minimal bath towel sets and no wash clothes. I had to call and request those from housekeeping along with more towels. TVs are very old. Another issue is due to Covid the villa is only cleaned every three days instead of more frequently as they used to be. And you do have to request that, so make sure you do that when you check in. The water pressure went out on our last day and we couldn't use anything for over an hour including the toilets. The positives of the villa were the beds were comfy and we never felt crowded due to the extra space the outdoor porches provide. We always book the Harborside villas so we can rent the boat slip out in front. Boat slip fees are separate from the villa rental just an FYI. Our family went to all the pool areas and one complaint our daughter with the baby had was when they tried to go to the kiddie pool the first morning it was closed and the hours different from the website. The adult pool had no towels the day my husband and I went and when he went to the main pool to get towels, he told the attendant there and their response was , yes we know. The bar service was so lacking that the husband also went to get our drinks. We had dinner for the hubby's birthday at Angler and Ale (you can see that review) and it was pretty awful and certainly not worth the $400 plus dollars we spent. The grounds are nice but you can definitely see areas that are in need of updates. Unfortunately, I do not feel like this resort has aged well. We stayed at Cheeca Lodge with some adult couples in January and feel that resort is definitely more renovated. I hope Hawks Cay invest in some updates, getting more staff, improving the food in their onsite restaurants, and overall getting back to the luxury resort of the past. read more

What an amazing and beautiful resort! The main pool is so pretty and there were plenty of chairs and staff to wait on us. The kids loved swimming with the dolphins, playing on the free kayaks and snorkeling in the lagoon. My husband and I relaxed and enjoyed the sunshine and watching the charter boats go by. The lobby is newly redone after the hurricane. Because of Covid there are extra safety precautions. Housekeeping does not visit your room or villa everyday which I prefer. I was able to call the front desk and have new towels sent over when we needed it. Our villa had the prettiest views and we enjoyed seeing the manatees and nurse sharks swimming around. We will definitely go back! read more

Pretty surrounding but I guess because there isn't much competition around, they've let the facilities go! For Four Seasons pricing we were disappointed & expected more. Will try Cheeca Lodge next time! Need a new back from the horrible beds. read more

Decadent pit stop on the way to Key West. We had a perfect lunch at Oasis Pool Bar of Hawks Cay resort. Excellent service, delicious conch lollipops, Seared tuna BLT and Fish tacos! Breeze and view were priceless. read more

This was our second time there. The first visit was really enjoyable and worth the money. This visit, not so much. Service was inconsistent, ranging from eminently professional to downright surly. Unfortunately, surly was the majority. It just seemed like a resort where no one likes their job. Prime 61 restaurant was good, not worth $160.00 for two entrees and one drink, whereas in 2018 it was a great experience. Trying to be fair during COVID-19 I can understand some loss of panache and quality, but our stay was simply not worth the price. Avoid the Marketplace at all costs. The staff is downright unpleasant and annoyed by the customer. Truly a lousy place to spend money. Our stay also unfortunately coincided with a medical professional conference, which means apparently that the pools, restaurants and other amenities are all filled with obnoxious drunk medical people. I get that everyone needs to blow off steam after the last year but I would check to see what conferences are scheduled before booking here. Really quite disappointed in our return visit. read more

Came here because it was highly recommended, and had good kid friendly activities. The front desk lady not very friendly very passive aggressive every time I asked her a question about the property. And upon entering the hotel room it did not have a microwave, and there is no microwave available for guests in any of the common areas. I have a 7 month old that requires to eat certain food (no restaurant food) the front desk lady (same lady) was very rude and straight up told me not happening because they don't have one at all. However her manager arrived and took care of us, but it's very inconvenient that they won't have it available specially since the hotel is "family" friendly. When we returned to our room our second day it smelled so strong of marijuana inside the bedroom it was shocking since I have the baby and a 2.5 year old none of us smoke and to come to that room like that it was not good. Had to leave the back door open to air out the bedroom. The "beach" it's not really a beach it's a man made hole w water and some sand. It's very nice but we were under a different perspective. Besides these inconveniences everyone else was nice and had a nice time. For the price I feel like there's other places you can go and get a better bang for your buck. read more
