My wife and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. The food was amazing but our server was terrible. No engagement whatsoever and he made it feel like it was an inconvenience to wait on us. We had brought a bottle of wine with us and immediately before we asked to have it open he said just so you know we have a $50 corkage fee. $50 is pretty ridiculous. Then at the end when he gave us our check we noticed an extra service charge and when we asked about it he said "Oh yeah we put that on during Covid for the back of house and haven't taken it off!" Went to Hawks for our anniversary dinner with our friends who happen to have the same anniversary. We had been to Hawks before, but it was quite some time ago (before Covid), and we were expecting the same fine dining experience that we had before. We were very disappointed. Our waiter, Shad, brought us our bottle of Chardonnay, poured us each a glass, and then placed the bottle on the table. We thought he would come back with an ice bucket. We waited, and when he finally walked by, we stopped him to request the ice bucket. My husband and I had the potato soup, and they had the Ceasars salad to start. Both were fine. Shad realized that we didn't get our bread tray until our main courses were just about to be placed on our table. I ordered the short rib. The portion was VERY small, but it was delicious. My girlfriend had the halibut, which was also a tiny portion and tasted "okay." Her husband ordered the scallop pasta dish then changed his order to the porkchop after my husband ordered the porkchop because Shad raved about the porkchop. Sadly, the porkchop was flavorless and tough. Seriously, it was bad. I tried a bite. Shad brought the dessert menu. We inquired if there was a complimentary dessert that we could all share for our anniversary. He said, "If we gave away dessert, we would go under." Really? Go under? After all the overpriced, small portioned dishes? Poor choice of words. Shad did end up bringing us a dish with four tiny macaroons and four little jellied candies, none of which were tasty. Probably the very best food I've ever eaten. If you want to go out and enjoy some high dining with exceptional service, then an evening at Hawks is highly recommended. Truly an amazing experience from every aspect. The setting was warm and inviting plush couch like benches covered in velvet, elegant chandeliers, the ambiance was special. Continuing the birthday celebration for Jeremy, I booked us a table at Hawks to celebrate in style. Hawks came highly recommended and did not fail to satisfy. Arriving at 7:30, immediately upon entering, we were greeted with a warm & friendly smile by a very pleasant woman. She showed up back to our table right next to the window. Very beautiful seating. Shortly after we were greeted by our server J-Quelen (Jackie) who offered us 3 types of water, bottled still or bubbly; and purified tap water. We ordered a bottle of the still water. We were provided a very impressive drinks menu, seriously is has a table of contents. The drink prices range from $8 to $300, so you're sure to find something for your taste buds and wallet. From the drink list, Jeremy ordered the "Ginger's Pearl $14, which is rum blend, ginger cordial, roasted pistachio, lime and pineapple foam. Check out my photos you see it there with the brulee'd pineapple. He really enjoyed the drink. I ordered the Know What I'm Saeng also $14- vodka, cocchi americano, lemon, strawberry, mango root beer foam. FYI I had to goggle cocchi and its a wine. So who knew vodka and wine could be mixed, better believe I'll be trying that at home. My drink came with a grilled or brulee'd lemon. The drinks were superb. We placed our food order and they brought out a tray of bread and super yummy butter. The real kicker was the Amuse-bouche - it was potato & celery, juice and it was warm and so delicious. Being out of my element, I had to Google Amuse-bouche - The term amuse-bouche is a French term and it means "mouth amuser". It was amazing. This isn't like the breakfast place we ate at earlier this week in Woodland. We're in Granite Bay after all in a fine dining establishment. And we were asked "what would you like for your first course". I don't normally eat in courses so this was new. From the first course, Jeremy ordered the Puree of White Corn Soup with Crispy Chickpea Fritter, Roasted Peppers, Cilantro $13. They bring a beautiful bowl with the fritter and other items and then pour your soup (hot) into the bowl. This is when I felt like I was having a Top Chef moment with this table side pour. I ordered the Caesar Salad $13. Although they tried to make the salad very fancy, it was a very standard Caesar. I will say through, the parmesan was probably the best I had ever tasted and the little sourdough croutons were perfect, crunchy but not hard. If I had been in a private place, I probably would have licked every last bite of parmesan off the plate. Okay onto the Entrees.... I had previously seen the menu so I knew I would order the Almond Wood Grilled Filet Mignon $60. Served medium - not my usual but J-Quelen promised me it would not be bloody and she was right, the steak was the perfect temperature and was not bloody. My marvelous steak was served with Morel Mushrooms, Potato Gratin and Bordelaise. The Bordelaise was a superb gravy. I don't like mushrooms but devoured the ones on my steak. The steak was superb; the potato gratin - omg omg omg, if you do nothing else in life, you gotta try those potatoes with that bordelaise. Probably the most amazing thing I ever ate - well maybe, wait... I've not told you about dessert yet. Jeremy ordered the Liberty Duck Breast with local cherries, charred onion, Soubise, honey gastrique $43. I personally cannot tell you how good it was because I've never eaten duck, not my thing. But Jeremy ate every single bite and said it was amazing. I believe him based on my own dinner. So the night wasn't over, after enjoying our drinks, bread, the Amuse-bouche and marvelous dinner, we ordered dessert. It was a bit hard to decide but J-Quelen told us they were better than the famous place in New Orleans and we decided on the Beignets $12. After eating the first one which was served warm with a side of this amazing butterscotch sauce, I told J-Quelen the steak and Bordelaise sauce couldn't be beat. But after having a second Beignets with that spectacular butterscotch sauce, I was won over and decided the Beignets were the star of the dinner. Jeremy had two other drinks, a Raspberry Rose Royal - which J-Quelen promised would be incredibly raspberry flavored and she was truly right, Jeremy did a good pucker up. He also tried the raspberry lemon drop. He really enjoyed that as well. Honestly, this was an amazing night. Don't come with your pockets half full, the bill came to $239. My third or fourth visit to Hawks. I've never been disappointed, and tonight was a memorable experience. Party of four for early dinner. The mushroom soup amuse bouche was wonderful. White Fog Farm lettuce salad was (reportedly) excellent. The Caesar salad was tasty but the creamy dressing revealed it as an imitation Caesar (in my opinion); the saving grace was the white anchovy on top. (I am a Caesar salad purist and I am frequently unimpressed; woe is me.). Entrées: Duck--excellent! Short ribs--excellent! Steelhead--excellent! Lamb loin--excellent and more! Wine: Fair--a Tuscan red, good but overpriced for the quality. Dessert: We have had the "beignets" before--these are tasty enough but they are NOT in any sense beignets--just sugary doughnut holes with caramel sauce on the side. What they called an entremet might, in a pinch, be considered a "deconstructed" entremet--but an entremet it was not. The parts were, however, very good, if little more than a small mound of fond chocolate with cocoa nibs and a bit of white filling. We were very pleased with the unexpected serving of two extra dessert items, quartets of little chocolate dollops on shortbread and Sangria-infused gel cubes--very playful and delightful. Decent late-bottled vintage port and good tea and coffee. The service was spot on--absolutely top-notch. We were VERY pleased with service and atmosphere. Despite the scattered culinary contradictions, I say : Go to Hawks--time well spent. read more

My husband and I were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary and I wanted to try a place we haven't been to before. I decided on Hawks since it had great reviews and is a smaller, more intimate restaurant. We started with drinks (delicious) and the charcuterie board appetizer. For dinner I ordered the scallops and my husband ordered the duck. Everything thing was delicious and we finished every last bite. For dessert we ordered the hawk candy bar and the beignets. The beignets were dusted in cinnamon sugar and served with a caramel sauce. They were melt in your mouth scrumptious. We were treated well from the moment we walked in and the owner stopped at our table to check in on us. I appreciate that extra touch that shows they care. Our waiter, Adrian, was fantastic; knowledgeable, charismatic, professional and emotionally intelligent with the ability to read the room. One star lost for the last quality that Adrian possessed that Mark (manager), sadly did not. For the 2 minutes my husband and I were exchanging anniversary cards, in the middle of reading them, he felt that was the appropriate time to come over, reach over me, and say "pardon my reach, it's time to adjust the thermostat now that it's dinner time." I had a very nice time at Hawks, a couple small bumps aside! I came for a Saturday night dinner with my mom, with a reservation we had to make about a month in advance online. The restaurant is located in a shopping center so it makes parking easy, always a plus! We arrived on time and were seated promptly. Our server Garron was a king through the whole experience - a bit of a salesman but also overflowing with positivity and professionalism, he insisted our experience be top notch and I never felt pressured, only encouraged. Our meal kicked off with a freebie amuse bouche of their mushroom soup, so rich and yummy. Garron said all items are made in house with the exception of the bread (a disappointing if honest admission), and I went with the gnocchi to start as he advised it was a specialty of the house. I paired it up with a classic Manhattan (YUM) and enjoyed all that pillowy richness. A heavy starter but also portioned well to keep it accessible. To keep the winter comfort food vibe going, I ordered their short rib with a glass of the mid-priced Joseph Swan pinot noir. The pinot came out and was the color of an old fashioned - puzzling, but a note on the menu said it was presented through a special wine system, so I was keeping an open mind. It was very much not my taste if it was presented as intended, sour and generally unpalatable - when I mentioned it to Garron he did say he knew it was a funky choice and almost advised against it but it wasn't his place. I can respect that! He cleared that glass and brought me samples of two suggested wines, a pinot and a cab sauv, and that cabernet was GLORIOUS. And so while I struggle to understand why a restaurant in a suburban neighborhood would include a wine best described as challenging, they had zero trouble correcting the situation for me. Another hiccup was our entrees coming out before we were done with our apps - another Garron saves the day moment, he intercepted them and was none too pleased with the mishap. I truly respected his caring for our experience! Finally with my yummy wine and delectable short rib, I was a happy customer. I would say the short rib and gnocchi were both a touch on the salty side, but I would rather have an unctuous meal than a bland one. We didn't partake in dessert, but were treated to 2 small bites of a pomegranate jelly dessert and an almond financier cake. So nice to still be able to end the meal with something sweet! Overall I had a lovely time and would very much enjoy returning in the spring or summer to try another round of seasonal eats in this classy and adventurous atmosphere. Ambiance is very nice, staff are very attentive but I will give it a 3.5-4 stars because if the food, in my personal opinion the food was very salty to my taste, the bread was cold and the butter was not good. Almost feels silly to review this place. ITS GREAT. Its ALWAYS great. It has survived being in GB when almost nothing does. That alone should prove its worth. Everything is good. Gnocchi, short ribs, and the burger are my personal favorites. Service is sometimes wonderful and sometimes a little meh. The food makes up for it on those meh nights. Good for a work meeting, a date, or a nice family meal. Cocktails are wonderful as well! We recently used their side room for my dad's birthday. I was a little worried about showing up with a toddler and a baby, but they were very nice about it and made the kiddo a little plate of spaghetti. The side room was clutch for the kids. read more

We had dinner here with a party of 9 people. I couldn't help but notice that the lack of attentiveness and care from the server and staff that was assigned to us. Our whole party arrived at 6 pm and right away we had to ask another server who was serving the table next to us to get our server to order drinks. We ordered our drinks and the meat board to start off. We finished our board before our server came back again. By that time our drinks were already finished. It just seemed off that we were at a fine dining restaurant and we constantly had to flag our server and look for him because we needed something. We order our appetizers and main courses. The appetizers came and it tasted great. But we have already been sitting at our table for over 2 hours before our main courses even came. And when it did one of the orders wasn't correct and we had to wait even longer for the correct food to come out. To top it off most of our party had already made their way to the exit before our server came back with our change. We've eaten at several fine dining restaurants and although the food was great the service was just not there especially for a big party. Fine dining restaurants pride themselves in great customer service. If you've ever eaten at a Michelin star restaurant every server is attentive to details. I'm pretty sure our napkin only got folded once when multiple people got up to go to the bathroom. This restaurant will definitely not be in our go to restaurants simply because of the lack of service. read more

We had dinner at Hawks last night and it was the single finest dining experience we've had in our local area (EDH/Folsom/GB) since moving here two years ago. Each dish could have come from The Kitchen or another world-class restaurant (think SF or NY). Each item was superbly crafted and presented, and flavors were simply stellar. Appetizers, entrees, and desserts were magnificent, and we'll be back. A word or two about the dining experience. First: every worker in the restaurant was wearing a mask, and they adhered best they could to spacing issues. Tables were set far enough apart that other conversations were for the most part inaudible. Server was superb, service was attentive, and we enjoyed a good 5-10 minute conversation with the manager at the close of our meal. A word or two about the food: we each had the beet salad (consensus was that it was magnificent), my wife had the beef short ribs (excellent), and I had the best (read: "absolute best ever") duck confit I've ever been served. Drinks, desserts and coffee were a delight. Well done to the entire staff. read more

FOOD - House made Gnocchi: soft, fluffy potato gnocchi with mushrooms and parmesan cream. So good! 5/5 - Crispy Sonoma Duck Confit: duck with peach, spinach, and grains. The meat was tender. The flavors meshed well together. 5/5 - Slow Roasted Short Rib: short ribs over a potato puree and wine jus, topped with pearl onions and brussels leaves. The meat was very tender with a lot of flavor but a little on the salty side. 4.5/5 - Hawks Bar: layered chocolate candy bar and cocoa nib gelato. The candy was good but was hard to eat. It was difficult to cut into and it was way too much sweetness for 2 people. The gelato was yummy! 3.5/5 - Puree of Wild Mushroom Soup: we were given a tasting of this and it was delicious! We recently enjoyed a dinner at Hawks - a real treat considering we hadn't been there since the pandemic. As is their custom, we were warmly greeted, shown to a great table, and were ready to enjoy an adult beverage. Our dinners were outstanding, which we expected; however, what really made our night great was the extraordinary service. Our server, Andrew, helped us dial-in the perfect meals - we did have a few questions and he answered them expertly. He was kind, gracious, professional, with an easy-going personality. Absolutely wonderful experience here! The food is delicious and high quality. The chefs are skilled and detailed with the presentation. The staff are all professional and are available when needed. They are also quick to anticipate needs. The bartenders are also top notch, and the drinks delicious. The meal was just splendid and I cannot even think of constructive feedback to offer because everything was taken care of above my expectations. The only thing I could say that would make the meal better would be to increase the serving size of the Zucchini and Basil Agnolotti, as I believe there were only 10 pieces of pasta per serving, and as a entrée it did seem a bit on the small side. But other than that, everything was amazing and the desserts are exquisite! We'll certainly come back sometime. It won't be too often though because the price for enjoying a drink or 2, first course, entrée, and dessert came to around $135 per person. If you forgo drinks and then you share a dessert, perhaps expect closer to $75 a person. read more

I found this little gem on the search for a small wedding venue. I do like it. They have reasonable prices and the rooms are pretty nice. We opted for the tasting menu - 5 courses. It did not disappoint. There was an extra dessert and amuse bouche that was included but not part of the 5 courses. I had a sazerac by way of drinks and D got a arnold palmer that tasted very fresh. We also closed the night out with an earl grey and camomile tea. We started out with the amuse bouche that had a poke style fish with what I believe was foie gras. The poke was pretty standard, but I loved the little cube of creamy savory-ness. We had an egg "dip" as an appetizer. (Excuse me on the basic terms I am using to describe the dishes. I forgot to take a picture of the menu!) There was a delicious cream inside that had a savory sweet maple flavor. So good. The 2nd course was a lobster bisque that I think they used butternut squash in. They had a very delicate "lace cracker" on top that went well with the soup. The next course was duck with chestnuts. The glaze on this was so good! I could have eaten a whole plate of that. The other course was a NY steak with truffles and a potato "creme." The final course was a poached pear with ice cream and nuts. This was the perfect fall topper to a great night! There were actually a couple of extra dessert bites that came with the check that were also very good. The severs were very attentive and made sure we always had bread and waters filled. This is best restaurant around if you're looking for a somewhat fine dining experience. I would describe it as more like hometown/fancy. It was not stuffy, the people felt local and the staff was very warm and welcoming. I was told it was Michelin starred but I really don't think that it stands toe to toe with any Michelin starred restaurant I've been to. It reads more like small town vibe trying to be fancy. Nonetheless it was really good quality food- -The short rib was cooked to perfection. This is a must order. - the fresh spaghetti with pesto and calibrian chili sauce was citrusy and spicy and pasta was fresh and al dente and I didn't think I would love it as much as I did. Not enough for a main but great for a side to share - pork chop was good, but again not unlike any really good pork chop I've had - the gnocchi was fresh and soft and buttery but a tad too salty. It felt heavy for a first course. - hamachi was fresh and also had a nice citrusy sauce to it. Dessert was a coconut ball of sorts and it was different and delicious and I enjoyed it. But I enjoy every dessert of any kind. I just picked the most unusual one one the menu and it was a home run. I gave it five stars because I enjoyed the food and I liked the more casual environment (even though I think they were trying to be more formal). I wouldn't say Michelin worthy - only because it lacks the innovation of unexpected flavors/ food presentation and the meticulous service standards that you would expect from one. We came here to celebrate both of mine and my husband's birthday as well as our wedding anniversary that all falls in the same week. We've always gone to the bar but our first time dining here. Everything was great except the iced tea was very weak, it was made it even worse with the ice because it was really watered it down. When I mentioned that to our waiter, we thought it was enough of a clue to have him take it off our bill but he did not, it was a little embarrassing to have to ask him so we let it go. Given the efficiency and great service we received it is really important to listen to the customer if they are giving you feedback. Perhaps he could have simply asked us if we prefer to remove it off our bill so we could have just responded accordingly. My husband & I both came from the hospitality industry working at The Park Hyatt Hotel and The Fairmont in Chicago and many other properties so we expected more. We will definitely come back but was just a little turned off. read more

We went to Hawks to celebrate my dad's birthday. It's oddly located in a shopping center next to a nail salon. The service is very good, but the food was not exactly as amazing as you'd expect from a place this pricey. The Fried Chicken was pretty good, but not nearly as tasty as, for example, the fried chicken at Chef's Table in Rocklin. The squash soup was good but plain tasting. My son had the Caesar salad as that's always his favorite and he thought it was average. The desserts were unremarkable. The bill for 6 adults and 4 children was nearly $900 with tip, and some people didn't order an appetizer and others shared an entree. I would rather go to Chef's Table as mentioned earlier or even Ruth's Chris. read more
