Being in the area, I tried to find a place that could satisfy my Latin cuisine craving. Parking was easy in their private lot, and there were plenty of tables to sit at. I got there Tamale pork and Puerco en Salsa Verde. Having had pork en salsa verde before, I had expectations of how it was going to taste. Although it was still OK, it was not my favorite. The texture was thicker than expected, and there was a flavor profile that was just missing. Pork was also pretty tough. The tamale was small and could've used some kind of sauce or dip with it. Overall, I thought the staff are really nice and the establishment is cute. But the food was a little bit underwhelming. Not sure if it was just what I ordered, but I do recommend others to try them out. read more

I've already fallen in love with Haydees from their Oakwood location. It's one of the more authentic Mexican places you'll find in a bevy of Mexican and Latin restaurants. It's the kind of place where the salsa varies a little bit each day based on how abuelita is feeling! They serve a truly delicious breakfast, and their tamales are my favorite in town (from a restaurant). They also have very pleasant and professional servers - they'll ask if you if you red, green OR BOTH! salsas. Odd that that's a mark of quality, but it matters that they give the option instead of making you feel like a gringo when you actually want to alternate each bite with a new salsa. The Gainesville location near Best Buy is a nice looking place. It's much larger than the Oakwood store, and I think gets less regular lunch crowds. Breakfast is a non-issue for seating or grabbing something on the run. Dinner can be a little more crowded as they have seating for large groups and will frequently have a party going on. The one improvement is like to see is attention to their bocadillo bread - the torta. No real issue, but the Oakwood cook butters and grills the bread I think and it comes off as something truly elevated. They're also smaller as I recall, so this location will fill you up whereas you may have to order two of the smaller sandwiches in Oakwood. read more

We have eaten at Haydee's cafe several times now and it is a place I crave on a weekly basis. The staff and owners are always so nice and friendly and going out of their way to accommodate you. The food is out of this world!! One of the best Mexican we have found in a sea of Mexican places here in the Gainesville area. Watch out for this restaurant. They are charging 20% tips for a large table to each member of your party and ask for tips again when your are paying your bill. Way to expensive for mediocre food and delivered cold to the table. I ended up paying the most for myself because the more you consume of course the more tip I have to pay, charging me 20% extra for ordering more than everyone on the table. In that case the waitress should have pay more attention to me and offered me an excellent service, since I was to be charge the most of the table tips. My third time and the last for me. They should have said once we sit ahead of time that there would be and extra 20% charge for eating there. We won't come back! Very unhappy! read more

Finally had the chance to stop by this little spot. I'm now 100% sure all the delicious food is found in tiny unassuming out of the way places! Very comfy atmosphere and friendly people. Was a great place to sit and relax with tasty fresh food. And BONUS, it's very inexpensive! I had the Chilaquiles. I can't even put into words how yummy it was!
