Unfortunately, it appears that a different dentist has taken over the practice recently, and his philosophy on dentistry is that, pain is an integral part of dental work and can't be avoided. At my most recent cleaning, they found a small cavity, but because of the previous extensive filling (done by a different dentist), Dr. Oh decided it was time for a crown. They got all the materials together to get an imprint made for both the temporary and the permanent crown. Dr. Oh then approached me with the hypodermic and I was thinking, "What? No topical to numb the injection site?". No way! He then proceeded to inject the novocain at a rate that produced excruciating pain from the hydraulic pressure. I sat right up in the chair and said, "This is not painless dentistry!" He just chuckled, and said, "There's going to be some discomfort. It can't be avoided with a block." Sorry doctor, but I've had two dentists whose philosophies were that there is no reason for anybody to experience pain during a dental procedure, and if you were experiencing any pain, it was only because the dentist didn't want to take the time to allow the novocain to numb the tissue as it's being injected. The only experience I've had that was worse than this experience was when another dentist I had started drilling before the novocain took effect, and when I reacted, he said, "That doesn't hurt!" That was my first and last visit to him as well. So, even though my hygienist has been incredible, until another dentist takes over Joy Dental, I won't be back to Dr. Oh's little shop of horrors.

So, making this appointment was a significant step as I hadn't been to the dentist in quite some time and last time I was living in a different state. I was initially told I'd have to make 2 separate appointments: one for xrays and evaluation, the next for the cleaning. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was able to do all of this in one visit! Chelsea was my hygienist and she was amazing! Super gentle, explained everything she was doing during the xrays and evaluation and my teeth didn't hurt at all while she cleaned. I was so much more relaxed that I anticipated. Dr. Rose came in and evaluated quickly; I did have to come back for a few fillings...to be expected by me of course. Prices are fair I guess, as I do not have insurance. They do not accept payment plans however. I don't really mind this as I am more than pleased with my treatment and look forward to keeping up better with my dentistry by coming here.

The entire staff of Maple Way is so friendly and helpful, they truly go above and beyond to provide exceptional care. My hygienist does a very thorough job---and on the few occasions when I've had to see a different hygienist, and they have always been equally thorough. Dr. Rose is one of the kindest, warmest people you'll ever meet, and she is truly an exceptional dentist. In addition to standard dental care, she also does some cosmetic dentistry, and she did an incredible job creating crowns for my front teeth, resulting in a smile that I am often complimented on---prior to that, I was very self-conscious of my smile and always tried to keep my lips closed. Dentist does cursory look at teeth and recommends several thousands of dollars (or more) of dental surgery when one has no symptoms. Then they cannot provided needed, beneficial preventive cleanings for 6 months. Buyer beware. This practice is focused on doing more procedures which reimburse them better than prevention. It is a common theme from prior reviews which I wish I had read. Not being able to provide routine cleanings is NOT best practice!
