After a long and hard week in town for work, I was in the mood for something good. Something different, and something I could not get back home in New Braunfels. Something not from a chain. Haywire came recommended to me by my cousin who lived nearby, and promised me that I would not be disappointed. Up for some company, I called my boss, and invited him to come along. My boss and I arrived, drove around a while to find parking, then met up in the lobby. This restaurant was located in a very affluent area, so I was initially was afraid I would be underdressed. My boss and I approached hostesses, gave our names, and then where directed to go upstairs. Walking to our table I noticed it was a very classy, but yet laid back environment, and felt very welcoming. Waiters dressed in western attire and cowboy hats. Upon being seated, we were handed our menus, so we perused the menu while waiting for service. Shortly thereafter, we were greeted by a friendly waitress (sorry, I was so focused on my menu, I did not catch her name). She asked if we had been here before, we told her we had not, but had came highly recommended. She gave us a rundown of how all beef was locally sourced, and how everything was prepared in house. She took our drink order and I ordered the Queso Blanco as an appetizer. She returned with drinks and asked if we were ready to order. With so many very good choices, we asked our friendly waitress what she recommended. She mentioned a red fish dish of some sort. It sounded amazing, but I am not a fan of fish. She then mentioned how she really loves their chicken fried steak. Their chicken fried steak is marinated wagyu beef, served with a jalapeño sausage gravy atop buttermilk chive whipped potatoes, with sautéed green beans. Say no more, fam. I'll take that, but mac and cheese instead of the green beans. My cousin recommended the chicken fried steak too, so that was another reason I wanted it. The Queso Blanco came out in good time, so my boss and I dove right in. The dip was very delicious, very gooey, and did not disappoint. So far, this visit is nothing short of amazing. Now for the main course. Our chicken fried steaks came out and the presentation was amazing. Now, time to get this in my belly. I ate every single bite. The perfect crispness to the batter, the meat was very tender with absolutely no chewiness, and the jalapeño sausage gravy was very savory and not too overpowering. Had just the right kick with no burn, and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The mac and cheese was also very good, but to be honest, I could not enjoy it very much, as I was full. This dish was absolutely a home run. My only disappointment was that chicken fried steak could have been a little bigger. It was very thin (which could have possibly been why it was so tender), and small. Other than that, this was absolutely perfect. We then received our checks, paid our bill, then decided to scope out the rest of the restaurant. On the floor above us, a full service bar, a humidor for cigar smokers, and a rooftop lobby to enjoy a nice evening and the sights of the nearby shopping stores. I highly recommend this place, as it did nothing but amaze me. I will be returning to the Dallas area in a couple of months, and I will be back. Awesome experience here at the bar on the 2nd level. You have three different atmospheres to choose from and three different bars. The food here is fantastic. Met my friend here for apps, mocktails and cocktails. We came for dinner, but got full off of the apps. The crab dip is a must try and the fried green tomatoes are fried to perfection. If you order a margarita, it's gonna be good and strong. Ask for extra agave or sweet-and-sour to balance it out if you need it. Overall will be back here again. It is a staple on my list. read more

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PLACE EVER. It's taken me forever to write this damn review, but that's just how good it was! Had to be sure to come back and make sure I post about our experience. Our servers name was Israel and we visited on Feb 13th. It was pretty busy and our server had multiple tables, but we never felt any pressure and had amazing service. It was our first time at Haywire, so Israel walked us through appetizers, drinks, and specials with such detail. It made ordering very easy for us. He was very kind to our daughter and complimented her good behavior which made our day as parents The food was so delicious!!! We ordered a ribeye special with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and the best crab cake I've ever tasted in my life. (My eyes are tearing up as I write this.. I LOVE food ) Seriously not a SINGLE complaint. The chef is amazing!! Haywire is dimly lit and insanely clean. Not even the tiniest smudge on any of our glasses or silverware. Again if you have never been here its 3 levels; fun to explore and have a good time. Came back today for a quick Happy Hour and an appetizer. We had a few beers and a specialty drink - the perfect drink for a hot day...the Rose' 75 that included: Western Son Vodka - Lemon - Elder flower Liqueur - Simple Syrup - Sparkling Rosé. Also had the Happy Hour Chips & Dip Trio, only $5 (guacamole, queso, salsa) Very tasty and just enough of each for a light snack...then the wheels fell off when we decided to have a piece of the ROUTE 66 PECAN PIE.... Pics included this is not a normal sized piece, Its about he size of a half pie. The Sweet House ice cream / TX whiskey / cinnamon bun crust blended with smoky pecans..this is a true Texas pecan pie. I'm embarrassed to give a low review given the other wonderful ones... but honestly these two stars are just for our fantastic service (thank you Kristina!) We had the chef's favorite appetizer, which was... alright. The elk tacos were fairly flavorless (which I was expecting from elk meat - personally I probably over season my own at home, so I wasn't putting judgment on it), and my partner pointed out that it seemed more like unseasoned ground beef. The shells also seemed out of a box lol. The onion rings were pretty good, but it's hard to mess up an onion ring. I'd say the peak of our visit food-wise was the fried green tomatoes, which I previously hated but liked here. Queso was like the recipe on a Velveeta box - though aesthetically the chunks are pleasing lol. I did enjoy the selection of sauces. I ordered a steak salad that looked great at first, and we were in a hurry so I paid right as it all arrived without inspecting my food. Sooo... no sending back the raw steak on my plate (I asked for medium rare - see photos. Some spots looked purple in person). I was also expecting thicker cuts of it as presented in other Yelp photos, guess not. The queso fresco "croutons" (the little cheese balls surrounding the salad) were weird. Like a flavorless waste of chewing lol. The avocado felt like it'd previously been frozen or something. Texture was off, and it tasted like water... I dunno! And if there was ANY vinaigrette on that salad, I didn't taste it. This was not an almost $20 salad. Partner had a CFS which was alright. He liked the jalapeño cream gravy, the beans were fresh and crunchy, the mashed potato had the right texture & seasoning. The batter fell off everywhere, was slightly burnt, and the steak was chewy - almost rubbery. If you're going to charge $18 for the plate in the picture it should be better than a home style diner down the street! We didn't eat anything else that day, but my partner ended up sick. Not sure what it was, but I'm assuming it was something from this restaurant... presumably not the steak as we didn't really touch it. Also, our neighbors had two tiny six oz steaks in front of them that looked like they were boiled lol. 1st visit here and atmosphere and decor make at first a great impression. We had been given a gift certificate and came to spend it all. We were familiar with location next to Legacy West Food Hall and choose arrive at north end of Windrose Ave and go into parking garage. 3d/4th level usually open. I added a photo of map to give you better direction. Then take the elevator down to street and you are right there. Making a reservation is best. Most dining is on 2d floor. Some dining on 1st floor and there is a 3d floor for more stuff. Or sit on outside balcony overlooking ground level entertainment area. Elevator is available. One downside is the noise level in dining area. Very hard to talk to someone next to you because everyone is taking to person next to them or shouting across the table to be heard. Not a place for engaging in family conversations. Next bone to pick is slow bar service. We ordered drinks before the main order and they came far too slow. Food was excellent; one filet and one meatloaf entre. The meatloaf meal was a better price for the amount of food served compared to filet. The Charred Broccolini side dish was very under cooked so I only ate the tips. Bummer. We had finished our before dinner drinks and ordered wine but bar service was too slow so we cancelled. If we had gotten the wine promptly we might have ordered a dessert. Slow bar service cost them wine and dessert revenue. Our waitress was good but handicapped by bar. Paying for meal is easy as the staff brings a hand held credit card reader so it all takes place at table. Bottom line: best if someone else is paying as the supper menu costs, be prepared for loud atmosphere and if there is a crowd slow bar service. The first time we ate outside and the service was horrible, couldn't find our waitress, drinks weren't refilled, took ages to order, get food, get check, etc. The food was great so we went back again. The second time we at inside, and the service was so aggressive. I felt like I was buying a car with 50 different options. The server tried to upsell on every little thing, rattling off whisky, etc. and I explained we weren't going to have a drink he still offered alcohol several times after that. We ordered the onion rings and he tried to sell us 10 more appetizers. Then we ordered dinner and he tried to upsell filets to have crab and other stuff on top. It was too much pushing. After we ordered our steaks, he asked if we wanted deserts and we said no, we are full, and he pushed some more reciting every desert on the menu. It wall all very very pushy. Our plates were never cleared after we finished, and here is the best part, the server stood at our table while we decided on tip. We never saw the bill or a breakdown of charges. He stood at the table, blurted out the total and gave us an electronic machine to pay and select a tip - ALL WHILE HE STOOD THERE! Talk about awkward. So I said "this is awkward with you standing there" to which he replied "didn't I do A good job?" . Well, I wasn't about to say we felt attacked the way he was aggressively trying to upsell and he never cleared our plates which at this point was 20 min later and they were still not cleared. The tipping options were 20,23, or 25% or a place to put custom amount. Hitting the 20% button with the guy standing over us was super awkward and made us feel forced to tip more. Haywire is an experience! Go multiple times (like us) and sit in both the restaurant and upstairs on the 3rd floor. Highlights of each: 3rd floor - you can see and hear the daily Legacy West car show from the comfort of your patio table. 2nd floor restaurant- the kitchen is open, so you can see the art happening. And it is art. It doesn't look like a conveyor belt; it looks like a well-oiled machine. The dining area is HUGE! It's great. Okay: food. The food is insanely good. I've had the meatloaf and the elk tacos. My wife had the chicken fried steak and oxtail stroganoff. My son had the ribs. I cannot recommend it enough. Everything on the menu is top notch. Try it. Came here for lunch and it exceeded expectations. The restaurant layout is very unique. We shared two appetizers and they were delicious. The coffee cake is moist and paired with the honey butter is to die for. Other tables also enjoyed the kolaches and queso, which yes is non-traditional, but was a wonderful surprise. Here is where you want to go if you're showing someone around dallas. This is amazing southern food, a little on the pricy side but I would definitely say it's worth it. All the servers here are super sweet and will get you situated for everything. This specific location also has an adorable little upstairs patio which is a hit in the summer. Only thing I would say, if you get seated on the outside patio balcony while there's an event in the plaza below, asked to get moved. They have a small bar area on the first floor and a huge second floor with lots of seating options: tables, round half booths, bar seating and outdoor seating overlooking the lawn of the neighboring Legacy Hall. It cant get a bit loud (especially inside), but on the other hand, this is a great spot for groups and celebratory events. Friendly servers, excellent food choices (fried green tomatoes!) and the ability to split larger plates. Two of us opted to share the chicken fried steak and they brought it out on two individual plates, instead of us having to cut it in half ourselves, which was so helpful. Lastly, we had a weird mishap with black wax/crayon (not sure where it came from) all over our table and 2 chairs. My friend wearing white shorts happened to not notice until we stood up to leave and I decided to tell the hostess. Such a wonderful restaurant! The general vibe and ambiance is hard to beat. It's got a modern upscale country vibe to it that is so fun and comforting. The service, of course, is always fabulous! Jacob was my server and was super kind and helpful with discussing the menu and helping me decide on my awesome meal. He had great recommendations and was so fun to talk to. For food, I got the smoked fried chicken. It's a special for Wednesday and an absolute MUST if coming in. So many places have mediocre fried chicken but Haywire hits the mark! So delicious! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the Mac and cheese. I was hoping for a more classic, cheesy Mac and cheese but it just didn't work for me. While visiting my friend in Dallas, we decided to go to Haywire for brunch on Saturday. Mind you, we were pretty hungover from the night before (SMH! Lol), but we're looking forward to some good food to hopefully help cure us. We'd tried other restaurants and the wait times were ridiculous - it was Father's Day weekend, so it made sense. When we called Haywire, they said there was open seating on the first floor. We arrived and were able to grab a table quickly. It took a minute for a server to come by, but once she did, we ordered waters and fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. Before our app came out, we also had decided on our entrees. I got the Cadillac brunch burger with fries and a house salad, and asked for the salad to come out first. My friend got the chicken fried chicken. Soon, our fried green tomatoes and my salad came out. The tomatoes were really good and the bacon jam on top was a nice surprise. My salad was delicious too - one of the best house salads I've ever had. Later, our entrees came and my burger was pretty good - very juicy and tasty - and the fries were perfect. Unfortunately, due to my aforementioned "condition," I was unable to finish my food, but I really enjoyed what I did eat. This place was really cute and the staff was very polite and accommodating. Hospitality - The server who waited on us seemed short/abrupt and disinterested in answering our questions about the menu. I arrived first and was going to order our drinks and appetizer before he came to the table, but she dropped off the water and was gone as I was trying to speak to her. First impressions are everything! Later when I asked her for a different drink suggestion she couldn't tell me what their best seller was, she answered me with an "I don't know". Sigh. This is not typical of a Front Burner owned establishment. My husband ordered the 13 oz ribeye and she literally asked him if he wanted the bone in or out. There is no 13 oz bone in ribeye on the menu. Why did we know that about the menu and she didn't? 2. Food - This was the moment that I really lost interest in the experience. In the past, and I've been in three times during the pandemic, it was always beyond excellent. My steak salad, ordered the same as always medium-rare, was so undercooked I couldn't eat half of the $19 salad. 3. Drinks - We typically drink rum and Coke and we ordered that here but couldn't tell any rum was in our drinks. I ordered the skinny porch swing after glancing at the digital menu again following a lack of a server suggestion. It was an odd presentation including my server over pouring it out of the bottle of sparkling water that the supposed vodka was poured into first. It didn't appear to have much alcohol either. My suggestion is to drink wine - possibly buy a bottle. 4. Ambiance - This is where Front Burner always shines. Their restaurants create an atmosphere that is magical, inviting, and elegant. I got 2 Tito's shots for $8 a piece, but that's what you kind of expect for an area like this! She is at every floor when I visit here and she always has an upbeat and positive attitude even when dealing with conflicts. She sets tables, checks in with customers to ensure they are okay and she just has a radiant spirit whenever I see her. So a couple things. The restaurant is awesome. Super cool decor and great views. The place itself is huge and over looks the shops of legacy. So it's an awesome place to go have drinks! The food is ABSOLUTELY delicious! No complaints there! Wonderful cooking! Our waiter was Brad. Let me just say Brad and the decor was basically the only good. He was wonderful! Very attentive, great vibe! Now for the "bad." We didn't have reservations, so it was going to be awhile before they could get us in. Understandable, however, once the hostess found out we didn't have a reservation she basically acted like we couldn't eat there. I found a spot at the bar (next to the kitchen) so she let us sit there. While we were sitting there, a member of the staff was eating next to us. Just kind of odd they let staff eat next to paying customers. I was there with my mom and cousin. We all three ordered drinks. My mom and I's drink came with NO garnish. Very odd for how expensive the drinks are! My drink was a dirty martini. I had two, and they NEVER put olives in. I've never even had that happen before. Both times the drinks came out the waiter had to bring me my olives after I was served the drink. My mom had two of her drinks as well. Both times they gave her the wrong drink. She wanted Hendricks and they gave her Bombay. The first time she told them it was wrong and they still didn't fix it. And same thing, zero garnish. Very odd for how much you're paying for drinks. The second drink my mom got was so strong she couldn't drink it. Very disappointed because this place is very expensive, but you're not getting what you pay for. I have come to haywire for brunch lunch happy hour and dinner and I am always satisfied . The Cadillac burger is very well seasoned , tender meat and the brioche bun is buttery and soft . This burger is well balanced and one of my favorite things to get . The only reason I am giving it 4 stars was our server was not as welcoming or attentive and the fries were a tad bit cold .
