This is one of my favorite restaurants in Legacy West. I loved the food, the drinks and the vibe. The same chef that curated this menu recently did a menu for us at Fireside Surf at Grandscape in The Colony and knocked it out of the park as well! Definitely a mixed bag for this visit. The restaurant is huge, spanning two floors, and featuring some semi-outdoor seating that overlooks the Legacy Hall event stage. The decor is nice, but it suffers from the same malady as so many other newer venues - noise, and lots of it. We were initially seated in the semi-outdoor area (I say that, because it had plastic sheeting for temperature control), but it was unbearably loud. We were then seated inside upstairs, which was better. My friend isn't really a drinker, so I ordered the Frozen Texas Tea from the drink menu while she stuck with regular iced tea. The cocktail was quite good, and quite strong; one wouldn't want to drive home after a couple of these. A subsequent Rosé 75 was less satisfying. On the food front, again, a mixed bag. Our appetizer was ceviche, which netted us a bowl of, well, we're not sure. It had fish and shrimp, but it seemed cooked rather than pickled in lime juice, and instead of a lime based sauce, it was almost a mayonnaise consistency, like a seafood salad or something. Accompanying tortilla chips were OK, but not remarkable. It was an odd dish that was definitely not like any ceviche I've had; if it had been pitched as seafood salad, it would have been more accurate and not bad as an example of that. As it was, we left over half of the dish uneaten. Moving to the main courses, she selected the garlic stuffed filet, which was quite good and served a nice medium rare. It was tender and decently flavorful for a filet. Mashed potatoes (served both with her dish and mine) were made from fresh and had a good taste and chunky consistency. My plate was the chipotle meatloaf, served as a long, thin slab in a nice presentation with mashed potatoes and cheesy grits (the latter, a substitute for green beans). The grits were notably cheesy (that's a good thing), and featured kernel corn as well. The meatloaf itself was a little dry, but had a good chipotle flavor and was quite good the next day with a little ketchup. Finally, we opted for a couple of desserts to share. Bread pudding was served in a jar (cute presentation), but was cloyingly sweet, which detracted from the bread. Homestead Cake, which has been widely covered in other reviews, was anticipated by both of us as fans of carrot cake, but it came with a surprise: cinnamon, and in spades. In the cake, in the frosting, dusted on top, on the pecans; it was just overwhelming and really took away from the enjoyment of the dish. Both desserts went largely uneaten. Following a brief discussion between my friend and our server, the ceviche and one of the desserts were removed from our bill, and we tabbed out. Overall, it was a decent experience, but the ceviche and desserts "surprises" didn't go over well with us. Next time, I'll be sure to ask about any "our take" liberties on other dishes before ordering. read more

My boss selected this place for our team dinner. It was stunning on the inside. It's two floors and the decor is rustic/modern. The chairs were so comfortable. They have an extensive wine list and ordered a couple bottles of cabernet for the table. My boss ordered the Chefs Favorite 4 - which was a nice sample of their appetizers. It comes with onion rings, elk tacos, queso blanco, and fried green tomatoes. I know it sounds simplistic, but they were out of control yummy. For my main dish I ordered the Red Fish. It was served with asparagus and lump crabmeat. I had never had red fish, it was very much like a tuna steak, very meaty. It's not a flaky white fish. You needed a knife to cut through it. I really enjoy it. We ordered a few desserts, which I didn't try. I prefer wine for my dessert. But they were very large portions. Great for sharing and the table loved them. I'm a big fan of customer service and these guys deliver. We had the chicken fried steak meal, with mashed potatoes and green beans to go tonight, and the jalapeño sausage gravy was all I needed to survive!! The chocolate cake on the side was moist and rich! We tried their Ranch Water and Old Fashioned mason jars to go and it was very refreshing and like nothing I can make at home. Yuppie, country fare. It was my first time dining here so we got the sales pitch about the cigar lounge upstairs, and the Whiskey lounge on the 1st floor. All this aside, our brunch was great! Chicken B.E.L.T. was as expected. It came with Fries which were some of the best I have ever tasted. Elk tacos appetizer was overpriced for 3 pieces (not enough for sharing), but the house made crispy hard shells were very good. The elk meat was somewhere in between ground beef and steak and tasted clean. Venison Chili was extremely meaty and spiced perfectly. I am guessing it was a ground venison blend with pork because those were not pure deer meatballs; plenty fatty, tasty, and a pleasant chewy mouth feel. This is a great place to impress out of town guests. Great place to have a fun social time. Great brunch spot with Mimosa flight that comes with a whole bottle of Champaign. Came in tonight with my wife and had a fantastic time. The ambiance was great and the staff was wonderful. Eduardo made some great suggestions and we loved the pork belly burnt ends and elk tacos as an appetizer. Steak was delicious as well as the ribs. We wrapped up the meal with the best pecan pie I have ever had (also on Eduardo's recommendation). I was impressed by their whisky menu as well with several different hard to find options... My initial requests weren't available, but Ryan came over and tried to help find a similar option which was great. It's hard to blame them for not having hard to find whiskey's, especially when there is an obvious effort in trying to acquire them. I also appreciate that he remembered my name when I was walking out and said goodbye. 10/10 experience and we will definitely be back! read more

I love legacy west - and this place is a phenomenal add to that area. Parking can be a nightmare, so take your time You can make reservations online (opentable is where I typically go), but I waited too late that day to make them. Upon walking in we put our names on the waitlist and was told it would be about 30 minutes and if we found seating on the outdoor patio or bar area it was first come first serve. We waited at a wood high top and ordered a flight of their beer - they had a cool tablet to order libations from! Maybe 20 minutes passed and we were texted that our table was ready. We went upstairs and were taken to our table. The weather was fantastic so the garage doors were open. Our waitress was great and greeted us within 30 seconds of sitting down, assumed we all wanted water to start and said she would be back to take our drink order. We went with a bottle of the "Angels & Cowboys Red Proprietary Blend" since it was a decent price and were able to taste it before since you can only taste the by the glass wines. Fried green tomatoes: WOAH! GET THESE! Great firmness to the tomatoes and the dredge on these has amazing flavor! Chipotle meatloaf: so delicious. The crust on this hung alone is to die for. Chicken fried steak: the thinness is amazing! And the dredge is super similar. I've never been enticed by a chicken fried steak like I have here! The green beans have this almost pesto like seasoning on them which is fantastic. Texas red fish: so light and delicious. So many flavors are going on and it is all in perfect harmony with each other. All of the dishes were delicious. Our waitress said the chicken fried steak was the most popular, and a close second was the meatloaf, and her favorite was the redfish. Of the three my least fav was the meatloaf but it was still amazing. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu!!! Pecan pie (with a cinnamon roll crust): this is served scalding hot! I would wait a second before you bite in like I did. The ice cream is the perfect compliment but that crust is ON POINT! Solid life decision right here. I had such high hopes after finding them on Yelp. In Dallas to visit from MO and couldn't wait to check them out. We all loved the beautiful interior and top notch decor. Perfection. We started with the crab dip which was delicious. I had the oyster which were battered and fried but unfortunately came out cold and soggy. My husband ordered the red fish which was delicious and flavorful also but the portion was laughable. It was the smallest piece I've ever seen for $30 - perhaps a baked potato as a side would have helped fill him (and the plate) up. While our daughter enjoyed her grilled chicken salad, it had a drop o dressing and we had to ask our server for more. I really wanted it to be a five star experience. Sadly, it was not. read more

For my main dish, I ordered the Blackened Gulf Snapper and substituted the succotash side for the cash iron marbled potatoes. 10/10 recommend this dish. The coconut avocado mousse paired beautifully with the fish. I was told this mousse was a new tweak to the menu by the chef - one that should be kept! Located in Legacy West, easy to find, lots of parking behind the building and it's not all valet. Restaurant itself is gorgeous. My group and I only made it to the first level, didn't travel up to the second or third. Beautifully decorated, very modern, wood everywhere! Happy hour is from 3-6, $5 drinks (certain ones) and a few $5 apps which is what we had. We had the trio of queso, salsa and guacamole with chips. Each one is served in the tiniest ramekin, barely enough for one person. All three were good, chips are awesome just not enough. Also tried the black eyed pea hummus, it was ok, lacked a bit of flavor. Service was good, not too loud but not too quite. Dinner menu looks great, a bit on the pricey side, I'm sure I'll be back to try something for dinner. read more

As usual Haywire did not disappoint. Party of 9 for our Christmas party. We ordered two onion ring towers and appetizer samplers, and two of the Cowboy Feasts. Everyone loved everything. We had the meats cooked medium rare on one plate and medium on another. They still came out at the same time and there was nothing left. No one cared for the corn dish but everything else was a huge hit and requested that all future parties be at Haywire. Thank you to the staff for being so accommodating and attentive. read more

Great steaks and nice wine list along with a full bar. Nice atmosphere and excellent service. Prices are on the high end but the quality meat is worth the price. I recommend Haywire. I came here on opening day and had a pretty good experience. Here's my breakdown: Ambiance: contemporary southern feel with country music (Tim McGraw/Reba/old Taylor Swift) playing in the background. We came opening day and it was completely packed, so def expect it to be on the loud side. I love the decor here which is expected since this place is from same owners as sixty vines, Mexican Sugar, Ida Claire etc. Food: Hibiscus soda is def worth getting! It wasn't listed on menu though.. they need a section for non alcoholic drink on the menu!! Queso was delicious, but it has meat in which definitely wasn't listen on the menu. Menu says "Queso Blanco" which is just white cheese.. doesn't state there's Meat in it. Tortilla soup: loved the heat in this soup with large chunks of meat 8oz Sirloin- very well seasoned and tender Meat. Smoked Fried Chicken- if you like smoked meat then def get it a try! The chicken is very juicy and flavorful! I enjoyed the corn bread and the potatoes on the side. The coleslaw was ok.. too tangy for me. Fried Apple Pies- loved these with caramel sauce!! Comes with 3 small pies in a fluffed pastry coating and filled with freshly chopped green apples! They don't have a separate menu for desserts yet, so make sure to ask. Service: Definitely make reservation on OpenTable ahead of time. Very polite staff and friendly servers. The drinks took longer than usual to come out, but I'm sure it's because opening day struggles. The drinks were always full- free refills! Also, there's complimentary valet! Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will def be back, but the Menus need to be changed with better description of items!! read more

Finally made my way into Haywire and all I can say is "wow"! I mean, it's rare that one is treated to a dining experience where all components (service, food, and atmosphere) are hitting on 10, but Haywire did it! I came on a busy evening for dinner service and was told there would be a 2 hour wait. The nice hostess kindly offered bar seating as an option and we made our way to the 2nd floor where we had our pick of seats. As others have mentioned, the multi-level space is beautifully decorated and was giving me a comfortable yet sophisticated vibe. The bartender (Randy? Larry? Something with a y) explained everything in detail to us and answered all of our food-related questions which was surprising since bartenders at most places usually arent that well versed on the cuisine. We had fried green tomatoes, the meatloaf, CFS, brussel sprouts and mac & cheese. EVERYTHING was good! The mac is actually oriechette and had a ton of cheese.And everything was well seasoned. No need for salt & pepper shakers. Oh, and the food came out super fast, like under 10 minutes. That's a sign of a well run kitchen! I cant wait to come back and try some desserts and the rest of the menu. Haywire has definitely landed a spot on my fave restaurants list! read more

I know some places ask that but it's not like we are at the capitol grill or something. She says, I'll be right back with some water..great because I'm very thirsty. Nope, she decides it's best to take a 4 tops highly complicated order..hmm, 5-7 mins later..she's back, no water, I asked for a can of diet coke and some lemon for the water(they only have pepsi on tap, I hate diet pepsi so I get the can), she brings me a glass with the diet coke already in there, hardly any ice with the lemons on that glass. Whatever, she's probably new, no problem. I ask if the chicken fried chicken was good..She says, well the pork chop is our best seller. Ok, but is it good or not? Who knows at this point, she's a twit so I order the stupid CFC...5 mins later the CFC shows up at about room temp. The Gravy on top looked like it was placed there 15 mins prior (It had coagulated) and the chicken had been probably cooked 2 hours before; the way it tasted. The server finally comes around, I send it back..I'm annoyed so I don't want a replacement. Furthermore, My fiancés is a rib queen..Her favorite rib place is hillstone in dallas so she clearly compared them to that..They were mediocre at best and her comment was that the sauce is "weird" ..2 stars because the manager in training was awesome and smoothed it over somewhat..Otherwise yall would have gotten a 1 star review. Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night and boy was it crowded! Corporate event downstairs and upstairs were the dining tables. Decor and Ambiance is very trendy, but it was very dimly lit. For an appetizer we tried the crab dip. It was cheesy, had mushrooms, crab and was covered in bread crumbs. A little too salty for me. For my entree, I had the pork chops with Brussels sprouts. I should have gotten steak because I had a bite of my friend's garlic-stuffed filet, and it was bomb. If you love garlic flavor it was full of it! I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese to try, and it was so heavenly. I appreciate our server being able to tell us how the steaks we're prepared at this restaurant. Haywire is a special place. Very good menu selection with steaks, Americana dishes and interesting apps. We had Elk Taco apps that were a wee bit spicy but very tasty. We split a steak salad which I personally needed to cull out the red pepper slices to reduce the heat, but very good. We saved space for a choco-vanilla ice cream cake dessert. Came here for my son's birthday. The service was excellent and the ambiance was an upgraded casual vibe. We ordered appetizers of onion rings, burnt ends and fried green tomatoes. All were excellent and delivered hot to the table. I would highly recommend the onion rings, my favorite. Most of the table ordered a variety of steaks and they were all of the highest quality. My husband ordered the pork chop and was impressed. The manager gave our table a variety of birthday desserts to try, we were very happy with the extra attention our large party of 8 received. I recently went to the Haywire in Uptown and loved it so much that when I had the chance I decided to go again but I was closer to the Plano location. I went in on 4th of July, it was pretty much empty in the restaurant. We sat at the bar. The bartenders were attentive. The food was good but it feels like the food was better the first time I had it at the uptown location. The chicken fried steak here was very thin. The fries and Mac and cheese were very good. Also got the Brussels sprouts and they weren't that good here. Overall, I would return but maybe get something different at this location. read more
