Ok, I must be living under a rock! This place as been open for three years now and I've only recently discovered it. I just always thought the crowd was for The Rose, so I didn't think twice. But when I searched bakeries, and Secret came up, I was intrigued. However, parking is always a challenge in this area. After Cako and I finished our walk, I told her if there was parking, we'd stop....and there was! Already a number of people eating in front. There's a cozy inside dining room. Lot's to choose from! But the smell of bread baking was amazing! You should never go to a bakery when you're hungry...LOL! The fig sticky bun was delicious! I will get that again if they have it. The strawberry nectarine scone was good, but tasted more like strawberry. I shared the cookie and brownie and only got to try the cookie, and a crumb from the brownie. Both sooooooo good! Next time, not sharing! But the sourdough bagette was sooooooooooo effing good! Warm outta the oven! Nice crisp crust...no butter needed! And the mixed berry bran muffin was great the next day! Secret Sister is a favorite of our family. We always bring friends when they visit San Diego. Our favorites are the quiche, breakfast sandwich, and morning bun. The morning bun sells out often so go early because it's the best. Their coffees are great too. And we always get a biscuit for our pup. Things to be aware off: parking is difficult. This is one of the best bakeries I've tried in all of San Diego. They have so many unique, one of a kind pastries you don't see at other bakeries. My favorite is the corn cookie - imagine a sweet and savory cornbread-like cookie. Everything is made fresh each day and sells out fast, so get there early! Busy Saturday morning at Secret sister but the line moved quickly and there was indoor and outdoor seating which was pet friendly. Adjacent to the Rose and they had pastries, coffee, Paru tea, and breakfast sandwiches and breakfast baguettes. Cute inside with a couch in the corner and cozy decor. Breakfast sandwiches were delicious, especially the bread. We also got the carrot cake, quiche, morning sticky bun and rhubarb scone. The least favorite was the scone - a bit dry but everything else was good. Service was the friendly and efficient for how busy it was. You bus your own dishes and they have to go boxes available. Really enjoyed my breakfast sandwich here! Great biscuit, an over easy egg that was actually over easy (beautiful yolk), and Gruyère. The arugula was soggy and I think the sandwich would be better without it. I also tried the fig jam and earl gray morning bun. The texture of the bun was really nice. The most peacefully perfect cafe in South Park. I came in mid morning on a Thursday and ordered a cranberry eucalyptus iced tea and two pastries since I couldn't decide between the morning bun and the sourdough donut. Everything I ordered was equally unique. I was unsure if I would like the iced tea, but I had already had my morning coffee and wanted something decaf and their option was nicely fruity and refreshing without being overpowering. The pastries were exceptional. The morning bun was rolled in sugar and topped with jam and a creamy drizzle. The donut seems like your typical glazed, but it has this nice bite of tang that lets it stand out. The donut was my favorite of the two. I've been to Secret Sisters several times and always have delightful food. We order the breakfast sandwich (add ham!), the olive oil cake, and their other seasonal pastries. Sourdough loaves are one of my favorite in the city (and we've tried several). They're well priced too compared to competitors. Their bagels are great but I don't love their cream cheese. There is usually a small line on weekend mornings, but they get through it quickly. There are always great dogs here and families with kiddos. Early-rising bread lovers are rewarded with small-batch loaves made from a 150+-year-old sourdough starter, including crusty country loaves, baguettes and brioche buns. The sourdough is my favorite. If you want a loaf, I strongly recommend that you call in about availability and arrive early. They sell out frequently. They also take pre-orders. Cakes are available in two 8-inch options: a 3-layer serving 8-12 people for $85, or a 4-layer serving 10-16 people for $100. A full sheet cake with 2 layers serves 35-50 people and costs $200. Orders require at least seven days' notice for pickup. They also take orders for wedding cakes. The menu sits between sweet and savory, shifting with the season. Expect freshly baked items, seasonal fruit pies, pies, scones and rotating quiches. Items package well. The drink menu leans into organic teas, spiced chai and matcha. I really don't like giving low ratings and only want to uplift businesses, but there's no way I could upload a review and lie that I had the best drink ever. I'm sure this place is more focused on their baked goods than their coffee. The espresso in my vanilla latte was basically non existent. I saw the color of my latte and I just knew it was just going to taste like milk. However, the workers were so sweet and their breakfast sandwich was delicious. They were reserving several patio tables for the lunch service at Rose cafe that was opening up. The place was packed! We ordered the breakfast sandwiches and two iced coffees. Thank you Secret Sister bakery for fulfilling my matcha & bagel craving. I originally came this way to hit the OOO pop up, but the line was too long for my lunch break. I was so happy to find this gem right across the street. The matcha was delicious (they use PARU iykyk) but i would've loved a tinge more sweetness. We'd heard about this bakery on YouTube and finally made a special trip south on Dec 17 to check it out. The menu is limited, but everything we ordered was 5-star, and clearly made with care and expertise. The prices are also fantastic. However, we have to give the service a two-star rating. We had a few questions about a few things we ordered and were met with Curt and abrasive responses by both the cashier and barista, which took away from the overall experience. I don't enjoy leaving critical reviews for small, independent businesses, so I hope this is taken as constructive feedback. Definitely one of San Diego's hidden gems. Came one morning and got the Citrus olive oil coffee cake and the garlic cheddar chive gorgere. The citrus olive oil coffee cake was the bees knees, dense and moist, not overly sweet. I could eat this any day, it screamed for a cup of coffee to go with it. I'd get this every time. The garlic cheddar chive gorgere was good but not what I was in the mood for. It was more of a savory pastry. Light and savory, I think it would be good made into a breakfast sandwich with eggs cheese and sausage or bacon. There isn't a large sign outside only a small decal on the window, guess that's what makes it a secret. They are next to Rose wine bar and I think the food for the wine bar comes from the secret sister kitchen. Secret Sister has an amazing selection of sourdough.  The baked goods are based on a 150 year old sourdough starter.  I first tasted their sourdough while dining at Mabel's Gone Fishing. Sourdough baguette has a crunchy crust and full of sourdough flavor.  Loved it. Cookies had an interesting texture.  Not crunchy and not soft and gooey.  Rather kind of inbetween.  I liked the flavor. Sourdough country loaf had a crunchy crust and soft and fluffy insides.  Loved the sourdough flavor.  Usually french bread is my favorite but I love the sourdough flavor here as it has some sourdough flavor but not too much sour flavor. Secret Sister and Rose Wine Bar occupied adjoining suites in this building on 30th St. The signage to Secret Sister was minimal with only a label on the window of the front door. The inside was not large by any means with table space for maybe a dozen customers. A short line allowed us to study the menu board and look at the products on display at the service counter. The highlight was the use of a 150+ year old sourdough starter to make the baked goods. Baguettes, country loaves, and brioche buns made up the core breads. A breakfast sandwich, baguette sandwich, Rose burger, and seasonal quiche were some of the other offerings. If you wanted to dine in, a multi-page menu from the Rose Wine Bar was available with plenty of other choices. I wanted to purchase a few baked goods to take home and ended up with the following... * Citrus Olive Oil Coffee Cake * Sourdough Morning Bun - jam, malted vanilla cream * Sourdough Sticky Bun - raspberry, white chocolate, macadamia The coffee cake appeared to be a signature item available daily. It was very moist and smooth for a cake. Each of the two buns was loaded with sweet toppings to contrast the sourness of the dough. The sticky version was gooey as you pulled it apart to eat. They may have been a little pricier, but the quality was top notch. I really liked the flavor combinations. When I scrolled through the social media photos, there were unique profiles that the kitchen had created for the various baked goods. This is where I get my bread every week. I walk here, so it's a 2-fer (exercise and bread)! The country loaf makes perfect-texture toast. They use 153 yr old sourdough starter in all their baked goods. And their cakes are the absolute best! I feel like this place is such a not hidden gem. Right in the heart of South parks main area, it was pretty busy on a Saturday morning but we were still able to find seating pretty easily. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and you order at the counter before sitting. They seem to focus on/feature a lot of sourdough options which is great. I got a drip coffee with a blueberry rhubarb bran muffin. My partner got the breakfast sandwich but didn't want any cheese so they were able to swap the bread out for a sourdough brioche bun and no cheese in the sandwich. It had ham, egg, arugula and aioli. We loved everything. The sandwich tasted super high quality. The bun was light and chewy. The muffin was gigantic and even though it was bran, it was so moist with fruit embedded throughout. Not too sweet either. Prices are also super reasonable! Pretty rare nowadays. Muffin was $4.00 and the coffee was $3.50 for a giant mug. Breakfast sandwich was $11. A South Park staple. Me and my family love walking our dog and toddler here for some coffee and their yummy bread. We always get their cheddar gougere bread and their olive oil cake. They have a really yummy breakfast sandwich that uses the cheddar gougere bread and it is rich and delicious. Sometimes we'll just buy the bread and make a sandwich out of it at home ourselves. The staff there are very friendly and nice. I took my toddler here for a mommy and me date and they offered her free milk and waved hi at her every time my toddler would say hi which was a lot haha. They have some tables inside but when the weather is nice, which is often in SD, we like to sit outside under the umbrella. The chicory cold brew is more bitter and acidic and I didn't really notice the chicory flavor. The chai also needed to be waaaay hotter and less watery. If it had more of that chai flavor and actually hot or even just warmer than it was, it would've been delicious. The citrus sourdough donut had good flavor, but again, we wished it was warmed up. The breakfast bun was very tasty but also would've been better warmed. Maybe we should've asked but it would've been nice if they asked us if we wanted them heated up. Unfortunately the joy this experience could have had was tainted by the atrocious services. The staff seemed short and irritable, unwilling to treat customers with patience and care. When i asked what was in the baguette sandwich, the cashier met me with a blank stare for an awkward (probably) 3 seconds... then proceeded to respond with an, "I don't know, it changes." When my friend asked to use the restroom, another star member just looked at the location where to grab the key from, refraining from even speaking a word with someone who'd dare to ask about using the toilet.
