I love what they're trying to do but I think they need to import a chef from the mid-Atlantic with real world experience in crab and lobster prep. My husband and I are frequent travelers (In and out of state) and go out of our way for bloody Mary's on Sunday. These are the best tasting ones we have ever had!!! Had the pleasure of attending a private event here the other day and truly enjoyed my experience. The atmosphere is great and I Loved the decor. I had the pleasure of tasting the two different kinds of lobster rolls that they offered and honestly you can't go wrong with either choice. I also really enjoyed the Jim Beam high ball. It makes a Jim Beam infused club soda drink that's really refreshing. It's worth the taste. Apparently it's the only place in Michigan with this machine. Ate here for the Lobster fest, had a table for 6 and the service was wonderful. We had scallop appetizers which were ok. Our server did rush our drink order in so we could get happy hour prices. Came here with 3 others on a Sunday evening. Was told the wait was 1 hour but we stuck around and seated us in 15-20 minutes. I guess they had reservations but we never saw people sit in those tables. We ordered the fishermen's frenzy for $36, 3 trays of oysters (2 raw and 1 roasted with cheese), seafood bisque which tasted very different and interesting and could have had more seafood, also ordered drinks! M-43, corona, and an egg margarita. The frenzy tray was good to share. It took the third tray of oysters to figure that the east coast ones were the big ones you would want to get. Ask for the big oysters. They have their lobster menu until August 11th. We definitely had a good time. read more

Had lunch here today. I had heard wonderful things and they were all true. The décor is gorgeous. I sat at the bar was taken very good care of. I ordered the burger which was cooked to perfection and the cheese was melted perfectly. I am not an aioli guy and had that on the side. I wound up with it on my burger. I am also a fan of basic burgers which this was. I don't need bacon or an egg on my burger. The fries were fantastic too. Not seasoned which is a plus in my book and just the right amount of salt. We booked a large group reservation for a work event. We were terribly disappointed. Drinks took a really long time to arrive or be refilled. Waters stood empty for half an hour or more and some of the group never got the meal they ordered. By far the worst experience eating out with my team. read more

Lobster pop up takeover! Not even the universe messing with my car could keep me from my dinner reservation. So I gathered the family and off in our Uber we went. This was my first time dining at Hazel, Ravine, Downtown. Some of it was hit, but unfortunately most of it was miss. We we greeted warmly right off the bat. Hit! Since we arrived early for our reservation we decided to wait outside. They were able to get us in early. Hit and home run because I had 3 kids with me. Our server seemed to kind of be just over serving people, but that's ok. I can deal with that. I'm hear to review this place for the food. We started by ordering a menu staple. The Georgian cheese bread. Butter, cheese, bread, egg. Can you go wrong with that? No! Warm ooey, gooey, delicious. Also got chips and dip appetizer. Both appetizers not only appealed to us adults, but two 10 year olds and a 9 year old as well. On to the main event. The lobster. FAIL! My daughter ordered the Connecticut Lobster Roll (the hot buttery one). The roll had a good texture. Flavor was more of ghee than drippy salty butter. The lobster (which they did not skimp on!!!! Sandwich was worth the price tag) was a little tough. It was a 3 star sandwich. My daughter didn't hate it. I ordered a whole steamed lobster. No, no, and absolutely awful! The toughest lobster I think I have ever had in my life. 1 star. I'm still crying. My husband ordered the Fishermen's Frenzy. Basically had a little of everything on this platter. Fried shrimp 4 stars, fried clams 2 stars, chowder fries 3 stars, peel and eat shrimp 5 stars!!!!!!!, lobster toast (didn't try), fried oysters 3 stars. For a pop up style menu it's about what I expected. My twins ordered grilled cheese with tomato soup. Let's talk about this tomato soup. It's a very thick spicy "soup". It's more like a sauce. I understand why they have it like that, the restaurant serves a ton of alcohol...people need spicy tomato to absorb booze. It just was missing something flavor wise. Not great. I came for brunch with some friends today and loved it. The location was very convenient. I had to drive around the building twice to be certain where it was at but then it was very easy parking. There were several lots within a block. The layout and concept was really cool. There was a little store when you first walked in that reminded me of an airport kiosk. It had snacks and toiletries and just some random things. I got hot tea and the salmon bowl which had smoked salmon, red onion, spinach, cucumber, cream cheese, avocado, and a bagel. It came with capers and tomato but I excluded that. I love smoked salmon for breakfast and it's very rare for a Michigan restaurant to have it on their menu. It was very tasty. This place is awesome!!!! Went in for our first time outnumbered by kids (2kids/3adults). In Birmingham, that doesn't usually fly. Well, my kids were greeted with straws made out of twizzlers. The hostess brought crayons for the kids to color on the menus and everyone was so welcoming. Then the food only got better with each course. I didn't think they could top that cheesy bread or fried cheese, but they did. The burgers were the best we have had and the pork chop was one of the best my husband has ever had. This place has hands down the best seafood I've had since coming to Michigan. I moved here from Connecticut about a year and a half ago and have struggled to find a good seafood place. So I'll start this by saying if I had ordered something else I think my review would be different. I like the menu options, the place seems cool. There's an area in the back with food options and drinks to go. That would be a cool option for lunch during the work week. Our waitress wasn't very inviting, kinda condescending so that wasn't cool. They were out of the soup of the day so I had chicken noodle. It had really good flavor. Noodles were long and kinda tricky to eat in the soup. Had the panzanella salad. Was expecting more of a soft bread salad. It was almost all leaves of uncooked Brussels sprouts, had some croutons and squash pieces. The dressing was an acidic and herby and balanced things nicely. Only thing was that much uncooked Brussel sprout leaves gave me a stomachache. I don't think anyone could really eat that much and feel fine but who knows. I think if there were different amounts of ingredients it would've been better. The others I ate with had pork chop- which I did taste and it was smoky and good (they have there's as smoked pork). The others had the crab cake/ fried oysters and the Mediterranean vegetable bowl. They both said there's were really good and had good flavors. Desserts were good- espresso cake and spice pie both very tasty. I plan to return, try some other things and give it another chance. read more

For brunch, we had the western omelette and bacon and eggs, both great choices. The atmosphere is great, too. Really unique atmosphere in Birmingham; this place has a multitude of seating options and views. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable!! We stopped in for Lobster Pound and loved the lobster roll with butter, plus the delicious Ferndale-made hot sauces that they have; black garlic habanero and Michigan cherry habanero!! (Which are 2 for $10!) The lobster roll comes two ways, one hot with butter, and one cold with mayonnaise. Both were delicious! They also have this Jim Beam high ball maker that is the only one in Michigan. It creates a Jim Beam infused into club soda that is super refreshing and light!
